The table was unbalanced with a small porthole window overlooking an electrical power plant. Traffic noise was annoying and the property had minimal food options!

- Mary (8/5): Comfortable Stay with a View - Our room was great - looking out over Lake Superior was quite lovely. Microwave and coffee supplies are set out in the hallway in addition to what’s in the room. Katie, the owner, is hands on making sure everything is running smoothly and made us a great cup of coffee at the Sandbar. There is also a wonderful sporting goods shop on the property.
- Amy (10/5): - Really unique with an outstanding lake view. The sunset last night was simply stunning from room 1. Very nicely furnished and very clean. We enjoyed having breakfast sandwiches at the on site cafe. I suggest you supply cushions for the chairs on the balcony. My only criticism is the Murphy bed. It was very uncomfortable and I moved to the couch in the middle of the night. The Murphy beds would be fine for kids but not for guests who are 60+. The king bed was very comfortable.

It was an easy check in and check out process. The cafe downstairs was wonderful. We would most definitely stay here again and will recommend to others!

Only 4 stars because we were on the top floor and were awakened several times overnight by a mechanical hammering noise coming from above us. Also the TP was gas station scratchy and I expected something a little more plush to match the rest of the atmosphere.

- Fred (10/5): - The Blue Wave Inn is located directly on the water. We woke up to wonderful sunrises and ended the day with spectacular sunsets. The limited amount of rooms makes for a quiet, restful stay. It’s the exact opposite of a large, chain hotel! The contactless access makes checking in and out simple and easy. My wife especially enjoys the jetted tub, and I was impressed with the large, walk in, dual head shower. The water pressure is as good as I’ve ever experienced in a hotel! If you’re looking for a higher end hotel, that’s easy to find, easy to get in to, is close to a variety of restaurants, you’ll want to stay at the Blue Wave Inn! This was our second stay, and it won’t be the last!

- Daniel (2/5): - This place was going to try and scam me for a $100 dollar lots key fee. They use traditional keys and have a notice that if a key is lost that they charge $100. They also instruct you leave keys in room upon checkout. Luckily I took pictures of the keys when i left. They contacted me 5 days after my stay and asked me about the missing key. I responded with the picture of the keys and told them to not bother scamming me to which they responded "okay"

We stayed in December so we couldn’t really enjoy our patio or the other outdoor sitting area, but we were still able to enjoy the beautiful view! Our room was very clean & bed was comfortable. Check in was easy & the staff at Solstice Outdoors were very friendly. We had one small issue & the owners were super responsive & quick. We also loved the convenience of the coffee shop/cafe right downstairs. Would definitely stay here again!

I contacted the number if any issues not knowing what to do and they called me within 10min. I know I might be old fashion and prefer a check in person but I managed. It was actually a lil creepy at first because the store and lil coffee shop wasn’t open yet you could go in building and there wasn’t a car at place at all. The elevators are very slow but they did work. It’s actually at a nice convenient spot to stay. We didn’t use the chairs outside with fire pit because we were clueless since no one there on what we could’ve done. The room was fixed up nice and bed was comfy. I was bummed ice machine didn’t work and I didn’t want to go to town for ice.

The building is located right next to Lake Superior and a lakeside trail. The first floor has a sporting goods store and restaurant.

- yes2travel (6/5): Might be OK for you, but not the place for me. - I spent only one night here in August in Room 5. It does not have a balcony. I did not enjoy my stay, but perhaps a winter stay might be better here than summer. The upside: Nice location next to Lake Superior with easy on/easy off from the highway. Room was clean, bathroom shower was large, towels and linens decent. There is a nice dorm room style fridge in the room and a microwave in the hallway (for common use with the other rooms). The downside: This is more like an air B&B vs. an inn. There is a person working in the downstairs shop during the day, but after hours there is no on site presence. The 5 rooms are located on the 3rd floor above the shop & cafe. There is no complimentary breakfast served as you'd typically find in a true inn (Think Rittenhouse Inn in Bayfield.) When you depart in the morning there is no one to check out with and no one ever asks you how your stay was, not even via email post check out. The room was 77 degrees on our arrival. Someone had turned it down to 68 and apparently the AC stops working if you go below 69 degrees. Once we figured that out and turned the AC back up to 69 it kicked in and took about 90 minutes to cool the room to 74 degrees. We kept the thermostat on 69, but the room never dropped below 74 degrees, which for me is too warm for sleeping. If you're staying in winter this may not matter. There was a cute high-boy style table in the corner with two chairs. It held a Keurig maker and cups etc, however the table seriously rocked if you even touched it. We had to prop it up with rolled napkins to make it even slightly stable. Since it was so unsteady we chose not to use the table. Any maid cleaning this room and setting up the table would have recognized an issue here, so clearly someone is deciding it's not worth their time to fix it. The curtains are not room darkening. In summer in Northern Wisconsin it stays light well into the evening and the sun comes up early. In addition 2 of the windows in this room face the highway and it is very loud with trucks and motorcycles etc. Between the hot room, the inability to get the room dark and highway noise we found ourselves very short changed on sleep. The elevator is very slows and I stopped using it. When I did use it I had to repeatedly enter the code I was sent as the door would close, but the elevator would not move. Using the stairs is much easier, but be aware that you walk up stairs to level 2 and then you have to use a metal key to get through this door. You then go up another flight of stairs to get to level 3 (where the 5 rooms are located) You then use a different key to access your room. You might enjoy a stay here more than I did. I was glad to leave in the morning. I was disappointed that there was no one around at 9 am to talk to about some of the issues with the room. I was disappointed that no one ever messaged me to ask my thoughts about my stay. I will definitely stay elsewhere on future visits to the area.

- Pam (6/5): - Out biggest negative in our room choice, the Captain’s quarters was the very busy road just outside the windows. Other rooms facing the lake might not have as much of an issue, but I didn’t realize when I chose this room how close it was to the highway not having been to Ashland before. The room itself was ok, not much storage and the elevator is very slow. But the bed was comfortable and the shower was great, two shower heads, regular and rain which was nice to try. The table was wobbly so owners can probably tighten that up.

My only critique would be the elevator was slightly confusing at first & not the fastest but I was willing to overlook that considering everything else about the stay was phenomenal.

- Janet (8/5): - We did not receive information for contactless check in. Sitting in the parking lot 8;25 pm I called twice and it went to voicemail. A message on FB got results. Was sent the code and got access to our room. The room (Sailor's Retreat) was fabulous. Beautifully furnished, lots of room, balcony overlooking Lake Superior. The huge shower had a regular showerhead plus a rainfall one. Bed was very comfortable. Chairs to relax in, good lighting and plenty of USB plugs and electrical outlets. Coffee, creamer, glassware, wine opener provided. Plenty of towels and soap, shampoo, conditioner, qtips, cottonballs in bathroom. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay right in the banks of Lake Superior.

- Marissa Carlson (10/5): The perfect relaxing getaway spot - Awesome place! Very quiet and relaxing, spacious room with stunning views! Having the coffee shop available in the morning was awesome and everyone was super friendly. Loved having the patio and being on the water.
