Guest Reviews
- Joanne (10/5): - David is a wonderful host. Our room was clean and comfortable with a good airconditioner.
This is a BnB, NOT a big hotel, so we did not expect all the additional amenities that hotels provide.
We had a lovely time with David and his family, including his father, Georges, from Belgium. We even had dinner with them one night. David will drop you off in town and even recommend his favourite restaurants. We would definitely stay with David and his family if we came to Phonsavan again. WIFI was good.
- Jonathan (10/5): Best place in Phonsovan - Awesome experience, the owners are amazing people and really go out of their way to take care of you. I showed up after having a motorbike crash earlier in the day and they really went out of their way to make sure that i was taken care of. Would highly recommend anyone staying here. The house is beautiful and the rooms are nice, everything was clean amd the breakfasts were amazing.
- Kenneth (6/5): - Spirited owner was great for tour guidance.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unique hospitality. Very friendly owners. Great breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - David is a fantastic host. He drove us to the main street and pointed out places worth eating at, dropped us off, waited 2 hours while we ate and then brought us back again. He has good knowledge of places to visit in Laos as he is a traveller and his wife is a personal tour guide. Great place and would certainly stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My brother and I had an amazing time in Phonsavan and at this bed and breakfast. We arrived via minivan from Vientiane and our host, David, picked us up from the bus station, even when we showed up late. We didn't expect it, but we're absolutely grateful. He drove us to the city center for dinner that night too. He also helped organized our tour for the Plains of Jars and our bus tickets to go to Luang Prabang. He and his wife made everything so easy and lovely. Breakfast was amazing! A lovely breakfast spread. We highly recommend this place. The place is spacious and great hosts who are super friendly and go out of their way to make sure you have the best stay in Phonsavan. We had a lovely stay and wonderful experience.
- Jean (10/5): The only place to stay in Phonsavan. - A fabulous place to stay in Phonsavan. The house is immaculate the wooden decor is lovely. Davide + Sakhone are wonderful hosts who put themselves out no end to make your stay in their guesthouse unforgettable. They will assist you in all of your needs. Run a shuttle service into town and direct you to the best restaurants. Tours are organised to various sites of interest,Sakhone is a marvelous tour guide. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean nice balcony. Breakfast is superb served in a huge dining room. Drinks are always available with an honesty system when the owners are away. Truly a superb place to stay in Phonsavan. Tickets also organised for onward journeys. 5stars .highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - David and his wife made our stay worth the long bumpy bus ride to get there. More than the sites, getting to know them, and the other guests was the highlight. If you go to Phonsavan go stay there.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not Impressed - I took a chance booking this place since a previous review stated that the owner was away on holiday. I was hoping he would have returned by the time I booked, and unfortunately, he was still away when I arrived. Just like the previous commenter, this place was not worth the high marks given.
While they had my booking, they assigned me to the wrong room ( I had to switch rooms the second night). Once I was lead to my upstairs room, I noticed several dead bees and wasps that no one bothered to clean up on the stairway. I found a live one in my room and thankfully, I managed to get it out. With so many bees and wasps, there must be some kind of nest on the property that should be taken care of immediately. This could be a hazard for future guests.
The room itself was run down and dirty looking. Lots of cobwebs were in my room and no working hot water in the bathroom ( the first room I had).
The breakfast that many raved about did not appear during my stay. We were given some meat, old baguette ( I saw it on the counter the day before), wilted lettuce and tomatoes. Each person also received one crepe which they could add mixed fruit jam or a cheap chocolate sauce. Undercooked eggs in the form of an omelette were offered after the second night.
The guesthouse did provide a free evening transfer to the central area of the city which was one positive. They also offered tickets to other areas of Laos, but these tickets are higher than the bus station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Host was very accommodating. Service was great! Clean room and great breakfast too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful house and a wonderful host. We enjoyed our stay so much!
- Nigel (10/5): Comfortable stay made special by the host - We stayed in a lovely room on the first floor of the main building with a balcony. David who owns the property was extremely friendly and helpful. He arranged for us and another couple to go on a tour with his colleague Tey, which we really enjoyed. Each evening David drove the hotel guests in to town so we could eat in a restaurant and then collected us again later. A lovely buffet breakfast was laid on with pancakes, muesli with milk, good french bread, ham, cheese, jam, local honey, peanut butter, fruit, eggs to order and drinks. David was a lovely host and it was nice to have free fruit, coffee and water refills available during our stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was an amazing 4 day stay. David is the perfect host, always ready to meet your needs with a big smile. We loved staying here as we had the opportunity to really interact with people from all over in such a nice community setting. Every morning we woke up to a fresh, delicious breakfast to start our day. Our room was huge and very comfortable. Pukyo is a beautiful place with much more to be added in the future. We were able to do an amazing tour with Tey as our guide. He was incredible with great insight into the history of Phonsavan he was a big highlight of our stay and tour. I would highly recommend pukyo for any traveler looking for a fun but peaceful stay in Phônsavan.
- stephen (10/5): Great stay - Excellent stay and guest house organised our tours...A plus
- Paul (10/5): Superb stay - We had a fantastic couple of days here. After a long bus journey we were welcomed by David into the hotel. He couldn’t have been more welcoming or helpful.
He drove us into the town centre each evening and brought us back to the hotel free of charge, which was really very good of him. He helped us organise a rental bike at a very cheap rate.
Really made us feel welcome and had great conversations.
The room itself we extremely comfortable and had a fantastic balcony as well
Would highly recommend staying here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner was super friendly and nice. It was my first time in Phonsavan and he made the stay very enjoyable. It was like I was staying with a family member who was attentive to my needs and concerns. He knows all the sites and attractions around the area and has connections to various touring services. I highly recommend it to anyone going to Phonsavan, especially if it is your first time.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Comfortable But Basic Stay Near the Plain of Jars - Overall, the Pukyo is a good stay for the money. The owners are very nice and helpful in showing you around Phonsavan and even getting you a guide for the Plain of Jars. My only complaints are 1) the WiFi is very slow and 2) the shower is in the same direct space as the toilet, which is a little unsettling if you are a clean freak.
- Steve (10/5): - David the owner was charming, friendly and helpful.
- Laura (10/5): - Pukyo is a great value for your stay in Phonsavan. They picked me up from the bus station, and even took the guest into town for dinner at night. David also cooks excellent meals in the guesthouse. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The guesthouse rooms are very spacious. I recommend booking a tours with Tay, who will pick you up and drop you off at the guesthouse, and show you all the exciting and beautiful sites around the province:
- Andrew (10/5): Best place to stay in Phonsavan - The best place I’ve stayed on my trip to SE Asia. Run by a Belgian guy and his Lao wife. They arranged for free p/u and drop off at the bus station, they hooked me up with a great tour guide for the Plain of Jars and generally went out of their way to make sure I had a great stay. I look forward to a return visit.
