Guest Reviews
- Jim (6/5): - Nothing really to do around there. It’s very dark at nighttime
Volvería a hospedarme aquí.
- Irene (10/5): Clean, - It’s clean, beautiful colors and decorations, starting with the beautiful front. We loved the location since it’s not in the center (calmed and not noisy) but you can walk there in a couple of minutes. Also we discovered this amazing restaurant just 2 min away (walking) were they sell amazing home made food. It’s a family business (50 years old) called “Antojitos Doña Madal”. Try the “Empanada de queso de bola” 😉 you’ll love it.
- Stendert (7/5): Good - Location No moscito window frame, had to keep the window closed all day.
Ampliamente recomendado.
- Anousith (8/5): Very good -
- Emilio (8/5): - na
- Evita (8/5): Overall, our stay was quiet and comfortable. It was perfect for a getaway weekend! - The location is great value for money. The room was clean and comfortable, cold AC, and hot shower. Even though the hotel doesn't offer parking, parking is allowed across the street. The aesthetic of the hotel is on trend especially loved the turquoise window shutters and the photo mural outside the hotel. The stairs to the second floor are very narrow and steep. Request a room on the ground floor if you have difficulty climbing stairs, problem with your knees, or a physical disability.
- Maria (7/5): Good - I nedeed to ask varias time for te rmpoye to change the room because the air didint work
- Jesus alejandro (10/5): - Centrico
- Cindy (1/5): Horrible experience!! - The bedrooms are DARK! No way of letting in any natural light! Even with the lights on the rooms are dark. You wake up to darkness! & it was full of insects , from large to small spiders to mosquitoes & different bugs. Would NEVER recommend this place! I didn’t like anything about the property! They are thieves & the owner is such a disrespectful person! Even one of the employees told me he treats them ugly! After finding out they stole LOTS of money from me , he wanted to blame me & wasn’t trying to help AT ALL! Never stay here!!
- Paola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marisol (10/5): - The property is very clean and staff is very nice.
- Karen (7/5): Good -
- Marco Antonio (10/5): - Esta tranquila y es bonita
- Nataliia (7/5): Good - Good location, reasonable price there is no soundproofing at all, you can hear everything that happens outside
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dai (9/5): Affordable and great place - It was great! Walking distance to the center of the city, breakfast was great! Check-in was super easy and they had a lot of tour options! You were able to hear everything everywhere, so since we were on the first floor we were able to listen to people check in/check out, the sound of suitcases, etc
- Bettina (5/5): Was ok staff friendly helped with case , white big towels . Near centre walking distance to town rooms cleaned every day - It was 5 minutes from centre of town The lights we’re left on all
Night in hall way . Light got in through the shutters making it hard to relax and sleep
Noise carried very easily due to structure of building . Could hear screening whinny small children early in morning and at night . The bed 🛌 was to hard for me . And I like firm
Beds in general .
- Alexander (9/5): Superb -
- Toma (8/5): A well located hotel with good service! - The location of the hotel was great to get around everywhere by foot.
The airco was also doing its work and the beds were great too!
-even though we had to walk a few minutes for our breakfast, it was very delicious! - The noise from outside because it has shutters instead of windows, but it’s a minor inconvenience.
- Schüle (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place walking distance to restaurants and town center and the lake. You get a breakfast voucher to use at a local restaurant where they sell the best cafe de olla I’ve ever had so don’t miss out on that Beside their own tour they want to sell, the staff wasn’t really informed about other things to do but you can find everything online anyways
- Mckean (8/5): Very good - Very nice and clean. The personal were very helpful and kind. Great location too!
- Zeljko (9/5): all ok, we liked it, stayed for one night - good location
- Valerie (8/5): Great little hotel. Bacalar is definitely worth a visit. Lots of eateries and beautiful lagoon. - Great space, we had a voucher for breakfast and it was delicious! Noise levels as the were shutters on the window (nice style thought) and no hot water but that was typical of places we stayed in.
- Karel (8/5): Very good -
- Sylvia (6/5): Overall good stay! - God location, clean. Small room but well enough. The room only have wooden windows and bad lock. You could hear all guests quite well and did not feel secure with the bad locking of the windows. Breakfast included but at a restaurant at the main square. Breakfast ok but only sugary coffee included and no drinks for the children. We had to pay extra for other type of coffee and they expected tip as well for a breakfast included in the stay. The breakfast included felt a little bit as they only wanted to earn som extra on the guests.
- angeles (10/5): - Todo
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsay (8/5): Cute little place with a good location and nice breakfast - Right in center of city, small but clean. Hotel has been upgraded I think from past. Has mosquito screens, safe, coffee machine & water. Breakfast is big and nice from a local restaurant. The one staff member is really helpful, told me where the atms were as not visible (hidden in municipal building by the park, near breakfast). It’s cute, I would rebook it for the discount price I paid on booking Little fridge in room would be nice or coat rack to hang wet stuff as construction materials don’t allow for towel hangers. Other family’s who have loud children can make it impossible to sleep, because all buildings are concrete in Mexico it echos. But this is a Mexico tourist problem, I’d suggest noise cancelling headphones you’ll thank me. Would like a water refill station for environment
- Christophe (9/5): Superb - Modern looking rooms nicely finished with enogh room. Nice and friendly staff. Very good stay The AC didn’t seem to be ajustable in temperature I think it was stuck at 23degrees… a bit cold for the whole night for me. Location a little further from centre of Bacalar but a quiet location.
- Nadja (10/5): Nice hotel nearby the lagune (only 5 min. walk) - Very friendly hosts, comfortable room, delicicous breakfast included
- Manlio (8/5): Very good -
- Chun (10/5): - Romantic structures. Walkable to tourist spots
- Anonymous (1/5): Way to expensive for the quality. Not a proper room : a cave - The entrance was nice The room was humide, no proper window, I could hear every sound made in the intrance, mold on the walls, no natural light. A cave basically.
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant -
- Luis Pastor (8/5): - Super bien la relación precio y servicio. Es limpio bien ubicado
- Estela (9/5): Superb -
- Simona (6/5): Not really a boutique hotel - We had rooms on the top floor, the stairs are quite narrow and uncomfortable to carry the luggage upstairs and no one is available to help.
On our second day, one of the rooms had no towels until 5 pm and the staff didn't even apologise for the disservice.
There are no mosquito nets so windows cannot be kept open, windows do not close well anyway. My room had windows on the hallway so if you want to open them to let some fresh air in the room, you will have no privacy.
When included, breakfast is quite inconveniently served at a restaurant on the main square, some 7 minutes walk from the hotel.
There's safety boxes in the rooms but placed on top of the closet, you need to be at least 2 meters tall to reach them.
Doesn't really have the features of a boutique hotel and it's definitely not good value for money.
- Carlos (10/5): - Excelente
- German (9/5): Superb -
- Daniela (10/5): Exceptional - The breakfast is not rich and it is a little far from the hotel, it is partly beautiful because it is in the central square.
- Philippe (6/5): average stay , good for one night stay - breakfast, bathroom size, cleanness, friendly welcome small room, no fridge, no table or chair, room upstair hard to reach, narrow stairs
- Saleem (2/5): very bad experience - nothing nothing as described
the back yard is destroyed
the rooms is open one to another
the outside window without mosquito net and a lot of insects entered the room
no privacy at all
we was hearing the people that crossing outside the room
bed was unclean and not comfortable
- Carlos (9/5): Superb -
- Claudia (7/5): Good - The breakfast was good. The hotel was clean. We had a bad experience with noise becaue outside of our room some guest make a loudy party at night. The hotel need more maintenance.
- Valeria (9/5): Superb -
- Dora (7/5): Although the stay was a short one, we enjoyed it and were happy to have stayed at the Villa Balu. - Breakfast was great, we enjoyed it very much. I would have liked a private parking at the hotel, we had to park on the street side. Nevertheless, we did not have any issues with the vehicle.
- matthew (10/5): - Excellent value for the money, nicely decorated, and very close to stores and restaurants. I highly recommend
- Wolfgang (10/5): Exceptional - It was a great stay. Nothing at all. Was awesome
- Victor (7/5): Good -
- Nadezhda (6/5): Pleasant - Humidity level in the room was very high, window goes to the corridor. Breakfast was included but we had to go 10 min far from the hotel to a bar. it was no variety at all - they offered only eggs and a few slices of fruits. even no normal coffee
- Luis (2/5): Will never be back. - there was a bed and I was tired. It’s too expensive for what they offer. the doors are cheap wood and not you can hear everything happening anywhere in the building. The neighbors in the next room we’re having a party in their room and in the hall way. When I complained they said they didn’t know anything about it.
- Niek (3/5): Don’t go there! - Wi-Fi is working okay, if there’s electricity… Breakfast at the restaurant in the city is not too bad. Don't go there, they promote on Booking with big discount on a room, but the 65$ you still pay per night is far from worth it. Here you are already being misled a bit.
If you arrive in the afternoon or evening, prepare for a disinterested, arrogant staff member for whom everything is too much. We were given a room on the first floor that adjoined a sort of courtyard. The room has no windows, but nets against insects with wooden panels to close off the room. So you can hear everyone walking by, driving by on the road in front of the hotel. The staff at the reception have quite little to do and watch movies or listen to music, even late at night or early in the morning while you are trying to sleep. Room 4 was reserved for us. This room has mold on the walls, ceiling and the lights next to the bed. At the reception we asked for another room and with a lot of reluctance we could choose between room 3 and 5. Since room 5 also smelled unhealthy and musty, we chose room 3.
This room in itself looks okay, but is definitely not worth what we paid for it either. Unfortunately, the hotel appears to have no hot water, so you can forget about a hot shower.
From night until 7:30 in the morning the power and water is turned off, so you can't even flush the toilet.
- Itamar (5/5): overall value for money, with family a bit tiny and not too secure to leave things in the room - the breakfast that was included was great (it’s served in a restaurant in the center) the water pressure was very good bathroom and shower are great. no safe box, no refrigerator,
there are no windows only nets so you basically can hear anyone talking outside of the room, room was super basic and small and stairs to the room are really narrow, parking on the street outside
- Widmer (6/5): Simple. Quaint. No extras. Over-priced. But wonderful service. - Location was good in the sense that it is centrally located, and an easy walk to town center. The room was very clean. The evening manager was absolutely wonderful. The space overall didn't match the amount of money I spent. Spending $75 USD per night should have gotten me a luxury level space, but this hotel is not close to luxury. It is clean and quaint. No usable kitchen space. Not comfortable seating. No comfortable relaxation areas. It was simply okay.
- Laura (6/5): Pleasant - Decor room was nice and clean That room window lead to lobby we can hear everyone walking by
- Lorena (10/5): - Great services..
- Natalia (5/5): Passable -
- Alfredo (9/5): Superb -
- Darja (6/5): nice, clean but no safety feeling - the hotel is difficult to rate. first of all, the rooms are big enough, clean, comfortable, styled in a “rustic” way, good location, nice garden now the minus points that really are spoiling the whole stay: no windows outside, the windows that the room has are huge and go out to the hallway, inside of the building! the windows are not glazed, a mosquito net and floppy shutters are the only things that stand between your room and the outside. the safe is not fixed to the wall! it just stands there, you can just take it and leave! in the night there is light in the hallway, which comes through the floppy shutters and the floppy door
- Roy (4/5): Disappointing - close to the restaurants/bars area
very quite hotel not clean at all.
morning, noon, evening - cold water at the shower.
- Marta (10/5): Exceptional - Everything great
- Josue (8/5): Cozy and relaxed stayed after touring the lagoon - Breakfast at Mestizos was SUPERB! Cleanliness inside the room, pillow had a reddish yellowish stain and there were plenty of ants.
- Horacio (9/5): This hotel exceeded our expectations - This hotel is such a pleasant surprise. From the moment one arrives and the greeting one receives from its friendly staff. The architecture of the hotel is modern and simplistic. We were on the second floor with a window. You have all the amenities as cable TV, nice WiFi, safe deposit box, hairdrier and espresso coffee machine. You get also daily water bottles. Bathrooms are nice and big. Location is a few blocks to the lake, wide variety of restaurants near the fort. As a bonus, talk with Juan Pablo, he is very knowledgeable and you can even enjoy the pool at Balu's sister hotel. Not much. Sometimes shower was not hot enough but got better after a while. There where no mosquito screens in our window, not a problem with the A/C.
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional - bigger beds
- Linnea (7/5): Good -
- Alfonso (10/5): Great place to stay in Bacalar town. - A great place to stay. Good price and accessible to the town. DOes not have lagoon access but it certainly provides nice rooms, clean, comfortable, non pretentious. A lot lot better than any of the accommodations that I have tried in town, although unfortunately it is away from the water. Highly recommended.
- David (10/5): Must come back - Exelent location for the price
- Carlos (10/5): Beautiful in Bacalar - everything was excellent! the hotel was super cute and clean the people there were amazing did my trip to bacalar one of the best.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I booked a 2 double bed bedroom and they gave me a single bed bedroom
- Laura Lorenia (10/5): Georgi - Excelente
