Guest Reviews
- Karen (10/5): Quiet and quaint - Loved the B&B, owners were friendly, rooms clean and it is such a quaint setting. Stone throw away from train station. Food was lovely. Set in a small village so it’s quiet. It is quite hilly so be aware if you have mobility issues.
- Chris (8/5): - Very delightful stay. Very friendly. The surroundings take you back to a time gone by with Grosmont station nearby and the steam trains that go to Pickering and Whitby.
- Malcolm (10/5): Fantastic stay at Grosmont House - We were very impressed with our stay.
Selma was the PERFECT HOST.
The welcome was perfect, when we found it!
Good parking on site.
The bedroom, although smallish, was very clean & the purpose. The bathroom was great with fantastic shower.
All GREAT NO PROBLEMS

- Alison (10/5): Great for a few days exploring moors and Whitby - It took us 2 goes to spot the lane leading up to the property but there was space to park even though a few others were there.
The property is beautifully appointed and we were greeted on arrival even though we were before 4pm.
Lovely quiet location even though near the rail line with steam trains.
Well appointed room and modern shower room. Good choice for breakfast
Pity about the foggy weather on the moors but a lovely few days
- Stephen (8/5): - Great for walking options and the North Yorkshire railway
- Desmond (8/5): - Could have done with a bigger bedroom, found it difficult to put things anywhere.
- Philip (10/5): A great place for relaxing break! - Another great stay at Grosmont House. It was really convenient for access to/from Grosmont Station as well as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The room was clean nicely arranged, it had all the accessories you’d need. The staff, yet again, were fantastic and friendly! The breakfast was brilliant too! We shall be back again!
- Pete (8/5): - A nice place in a great location just a 5 minute walk from Grosmont Station.
Its not a modern hotel, and rooms are not soundproofed so you can expect to overhear other guests coming and going. The showers are difficult to set to the right heat and are affected by other people using water. A bit of modernisation would help. Decor in room dated and could do with refreshing but otherwise, a nice friendly place to spend a few nights.
- Valerie (10/5): GROSMONT GORGEOUS - A beautiful light and airy house, tastefully decorated in a lovely location five minutes walk from notalgic steam train station
Spotlessly clean, beautiful breakfast table very classy
- Amanda (10/5): - Lovely stay staff very nice
- Chester (10/5): - Excellent great staff good room clean and comfortable the breakfast was excellent and I would recommend this hotel to all
- Rosemary (6/5): View of steam trains. - This B&B could be described as quirky! Met by owner Chris when we arrived. Room was ok but bathroom is very small.
Breakfast had to be ordered the night before, bacon had a lot of fat & sausages a lot of herbs.
Nice touch was the fresh milk & water in fridge along corridor.
Access road is very narrow & rough with steep slope down to car park.
- Clare (10/5): Gorgeous mini break - Absolutely beautiful guest house. Comfortable large room. Food delicious. Very clean and comfortable. Gorgeous setting. Staff were friendly and very helpful and professional. Highly recommended.
- Mavis (10/5): Ideal Gem! - Booked this place as we we're doing lunch on the steam train. And it was perfect just up a small hill from the grosmont heritage train station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): grosmont house - Really enjoyable stay. Breakfast very good, lovely ambience to breakfast area, calming background music. Huge room, beautifully appointed. Perfect hosts, nothing too much trouble. Will recommend to friends.
- Pamela (10/5): - Beautiful area and the B &B was superb.
- David (10/5): Little bit of heaven in North Yorkshire - Selma Chris & Nikki were amazing hosts lovely company great room fantastic breakfast and they were all very knowledgeable about the area which helped to make our 5 nights stay very special.
We would happily go back & hope to do so.
We would recommend staying here too anybody.

- Leslie (8/5): - Lovely stay for the weekend to visit Whitby steampunk weekend. Originally booked for my wife and her friend but I got to go with my wife. The room was quite small, especially the bathroom but was warm and cosy with excellent beds and shower. A 2 minute walk to the train station and lovely view of steam locomotive setting off to make our day.
- rebecca (10/5): Very welcoming - A little tricky to find at night. Very welcoming hosts. Twin room quite large, breakfast was lovely
- Jason (8/5): Good B&B - Nice B&B, large room, great breakfast.
Only minor niggle is that on both days there was no hot water for showers at 5pm.
- Dave (10/5): Wel worth staying here - Great place to stay, just 7 miles out of Whitby. Quiet spot alongside the NYMR station. Beautiful house, very clean and tidy. We booked the Bridestones King size room, which was excellent with a huge e suite a D super shower. Unfortunately, the owners are selling up shortly.
- Jeffrey (10/5): B & B - Lovely house, lovely people, superb breakfast, everything perfect.
- Philip (10/5): - The host Chris and is wife are very friendly. Nothing is to much trouble. Breakfast was excellent, just about anything you wanted was available. The room was clean and comfortable. My only con was the room in the near future will require redecorating.
- Matthew (10/5): Lovely, relaxed and quiet - A lovely room with a warm welcome by the host. The room overlooked the steam railway so we could see all the coming and goings at the station.
The breakfast was excellent using local produce. Just missing black pudding.
The location was beautiful and placed us just where we wanted to be.
- David (10/5): Wonderful Experience - From the warm welcome as we arrived to the comfortable room and excellent breakfast, everything about our weekend stay was fabulous. The whole experience was wonderful and we will definitely be staying here again
- John (10/5): Great B&B best I’ve stayed in. - Great place and wonderfully welcoming owners…
- Anita (10/5): Would definately stay again - Very enjoyable stay, lovely room. Great breakfast. Quiet location despite being near the trainline.
- Allison (10/5): Relaxing stay at Grosmont House - Lovely welcome from the owners, Selma and Chris.
Room clean, comfortable and quiet (Periwinkle). Bathroom compact but clean. Tea/coffee facilities in room good and it was nice to have cold water stored in a communal fridge on the landing.
- Paul (8/5): Peaceful and picturesque - Really enjoyed our stay here. Lovely grounds/house bedrooms are a bit small but very comfortable nice bathroom. You are in the middle of the countryside so keep your window closed if you’re not a fan of bugs or moths when the Sun goes down. Had a slight issue with a badly overcooked Fried egg which was pointed out to me by the staff when my breakfast was brought out but a fresh one wasn’t offered until they walked past the table and I had put it on the side plate because I obviously wasn’t going to eat it, not quite sure why another one wasn’t done straight away rather than waiting until I was halfway through my breakfast but other than this can’t really fault anything during our stay. PS make sure the car you drive isn’t too large or low to the ground as the road to the B&B off the main road is poor, narrow and barely more than just Incredibly uneven stones and gravel.
- davidwilliams (10/5): - staff were very friendly nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast was first class
can highly recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Made very welcome on arrival. Room very pleasant light and very clean. Breakfast excellent.
- sarah (10/5): Highly recommend! - Fantastic stay for my mum and I. Delightful experience. Great Accomodation and beautiful setting. Highly recommend.
- Stephen (10/5): Best pillows ever - Most amazing pillows and very good breakfast!
Staff very friendly and attentive. Really pleasant stay and great location for the railway when it’s back up and running
- Roy (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is beautiful and the hosts were very welcoming. Breakfast in particular is something to look forward to! Highly recommend as a great escape to the country.
- Karen (10/5): - Grosmont House is in an idyllic setting and it's like stepping into a bygone era! The guest lounge/dining room has that WOW factor. Great attention to detail, with each room's bottled water and milk in an easily accessible fridge, homemade bread, a professional looking, as well as easy to complete, breakfast menu...You will not be disappointed.
- Robert (10/5): xcellent - Having travelled extensively and stayed in many B&Bs I have to say that this is the best place I have ever stayed at. Ideally located, great and very comfortable accommodation, marvellous breakfast and wonderful hosts. What more could I ask for! Bob Harmes
- Robert (10/5): Yorkshire Hospitality - Lovely place to stay, would reccomend and definetly be going back.
- Jill (10/5): Grosmont - Lovely stay in beautiful peaceful surroundings. Would recommend . Thank you Selma for the tasty breakfast! Nice big bath towel too !
- Laura (10/5): - Fantastic stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Title - Our hosts were so pleased that we hadn't cancelled but it was a surreal experience with everything shutting down around us. Wonderful venue and lovely people and they could not have been more welcoming. We hope they manage to stay in business through this awful pandemic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Brilliant stay at Grosmont House, we love the North Yorkshire Moors and this is a gem of a stay. Selma (the owner) is lovely, nothing is too much trouble. We very much look forward to returning
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Lovely house, very friendly welcome, excellent accommodation, superb breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very well located for train station and village. Friendly welcoming hosts and beautiful house and comfy room.
- Kim (10/5): - Nice quite location, within walking distance to village. Lovely friendly owners.
- PETER (8/5): great location for steam railway buffs. - Ideally located for a steam locomotive enthusiast, great breakfast, single room very small, no chair or suitable bench to use my tablet, TV reception good at times then an interference ruined the picture. reported to staff but same problem next two nights.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners are a lovely couple called Selma and Chris, they were extremely helpful and helped make our stay fantastic
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the location. Nice clean room and bathroom. Although I did not have breakfast, the dining area looked very welcoming. Would have loved to stay longer.
- Andrew (10/5): Great stay - Superb accommodation in a very pleasant building which has internally been modified to a very high standard and has the WOW factor as you enter the premises. Breakfast was very good with ample choice and very good staff. Ideally located for north York’s heritage railway
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property has been renovated to an excellent standard. Breakfasts are a delight and set you up perfectly for the day ahead.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely country setting. Very convenient for the seaside town of Whitby because of the near steam train station. Very English and nostalgic.
