Guest Reviews
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): Excellent - Great location, clean and comfortable
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Sue (3/5): Don’t waste your money - Not much Staff rude well the lady in morning
- Mandy (7/5): Friendly staff - Polite, welcoming staff. Appreciated the free parking, clean room and complimentary water, tea/coffee. In our opinion cooked breakfast should be included in the room rate (comparison based on other hotels we’ve stayed in/price).
- Sue (3/5): Don’t bother - Convenient as it was our wedding night Very basic
Staff at breakfast (woman) very rude. When we changed a couple of things on menu ie fried to scrambled eggs or said no mushrooms she said can’t you just leave them. Then when another diner came in she said help yourself to buffet breakfast but it’s been ransacked. Obviously us as we were the only ones there.
Over priced for what we received and if she was my staff I’d sack her!!!!!!!
- Dan (10/5): Cosy, friendly comfy stay - At the location I was DJ’ing at.
- Michael (5/5): A disappointing choice. - The Location was convenient with plenty of free parking spaces. Staff were friendly. Apart from that there was little to appreciate about the hotel or the experience. The hotel might have been splendid in its day but it is well past its prime and desperately needs updating. The heating was turned off in the bedroom but came on quickly, the radiator in the bathroom came on 12 hours later. First time we used the sink tap there was a foul smell from the drain.
I booked the extra large king size room and presumed the default reservation would be for 2 people but had to pay an additional £15 for my wife.
The continental breakfast was basic at best. There are better places to stay.
- Tom (5/5): Passable -
- Snow (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Friendly staff, clean room, good facilities Nothing
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- David (8/5): Would I stay there again? Yes, without hesitation. - Location was chosen as it was the venue for a function. The function room was exceptionally well presented, the food was very good and the staff were outstanding. The hotel and bar are clean and functional; however, as commented by others, it is in need of some refurbishment which we were informed was scheduled to take place soon. In need of some updating but that did not detract from our stay.
- Norma (10/5): Great hotel - Lovely room, small but everything very clean and nicely furnished. Had a club Christmas function, food delicious and excellent sevice There was nothing to dislike
- Natalie (9/5): Superb -
- Leona (9/5): Lovely place to stay food was great - Was very clean, comfortable bed,
and the food was great, Sunday roast and breakfast was very tasty Block Toilet and bath
- James (4/5): Rather Tired But The Staff Make an Effort - The rooms are rather quirky and give the impression of being not that clean. Carpets are not a good idea! The staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were very cold and there was no heating on overnight.
- Richard (9/5): Excellent stay. Will be back - Excellent location. Very helpful and customer focused young lady helped us check in and organised Dinner. Large comfortable room . Very good food with a wide choice and a lovely breakfast. Nothing.
- Shane (6/5): Nice but shame about the outside light - Clean and friendly place. Lovely king bed. Unfortunately the external lights that light up the building were right outside the bedroom window, we was hoping they’d be turned off when the bar/restaurant closed but they weren’t… it was like having daylight shine through the curtains the whole night which effected our sleep massively. Room 25 for anyone interested.
- David (9/5): Comfortable stay in a nice hotel but with room for improvement - Lovely room, spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed. Staff really nice and friendly, and the hotel is very well-located, in a lovely building full of character. The walls are paper-thin; we could hear everything the neighbours were doing, including using the toilet.
Breakfast is too expensive; we ate in Sleaford for much cheaper.
- Jason (10/5): - Had a lovely two night stay in this hotel this week.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very comfortable stay. I will definitely stay at the Carre Arms again if I am in the area.
- Michaela (7/5): Reasonable - Good location, average accomodation in terms of decor and cleanliness. Bit overpriced
- Andrew (5/5): Passable -
- Sara (8/5): Lovely hotel & restaurant, great breakfast! - Nice hotel, plenty of parking. All we needed was in the room. Comfy bed and clean room. Full English breakfast was so good!!
- John (5/5): Passable - Good location The bed was very uncomfortable
- Geraldine (9/5): Superb -
- Nick (6/5): Wont be back - now just a council hostel - Location good. Change of ownership shows. Room not prepared fully on arrival. Poor behaviour of screaming children in the bar in the early evening was not dealt with by the staff which put us off staying in the restaurant for a meal. It is clear that the new owners (the local authority) have not empowered the staff sufficiently as there was a feeling of apathy behind the bar. Had the previous owners been in the vicinity they would have nipped this in the bud.
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Alison (7/5): The hotel is well run , my breakfast was a wonderful omelette & kept me going all day as I was travelling back home - The staff were excellent, both the man on reception on Saturday afternoon & the girl who came to check on my room & served us breakfast on Sunday morning The bedside lights didn’t work if you wanted to read in bed & although I was brought a TV hand control by the room girl , it failed to work probably because the batteries were flat . I consider these minor irritations as I was only there for one night .
- Chris (7/5): Good -
- Kirsty (6/5): - The bedding and bathroom was clean but the cushioned top on the dressing table stool was filthy and the furniture was very tired and old
Needs updating
- David (5/5): Passable -
- Caroline (7/5): Walkable location to town and perfectly acceptable for our needs. - Room a little dated and small but totally acceptable for our needs.
- Marcus (8/5): - Hotel room was small but clean and well equipped. Bed was comfortable. Decent shower and plenty of hot water. Convenient for town with parking. Good value.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (9/5): Superb - If it wasn't for the bar staff ( AMY ) it would of been very disappointing she went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Food was very good 👍
- Colin (8/5): Very good - Both OK
- Sharon (8/5): Made a nice change when visiting family. Would stay here again. - The hotel was a little dated, but it was clean. The food was very good & the staff were friendly and helpful. The shower could have been more powerful. The bed would have been more comfortable if it was a king size rather than a double.
- Geraldine (8/5): Convenient location - It was a great location for my journey south. I was pleased that it had single rooms. It’s a hotel so it was a bit noisy as the room overlooked the outdoor bar.
- Kerryb (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sian (10/5): Very comfortable and welcoming stay - Really friendly with lovely atrium cafe area. It’s nostalgic but clean and well kept. The room was clean bright with coffee and tea facilities and really nice biscuits. Comfortable clean bed and there was an ironing board, extra heater and a tower fan. So glad as it was pretty hot weather but I had three windows that I could open.
The chef made perfect poached eggs. I was really impressed. It’s opposite Aldi but the atrium is lovely and the little beer garden in the front.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alejandro (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (10/5): Excellent will be returning later in the year - We have stayed at the Carre Arms Hotel regularly for several years as it is of a consistent high standard. The staff are very friendly and there is a pleasant atmosphere throughout each stay. Probably slightly over priced
- John (7/5): Good -
- Emma (8/5): Thoroughly recommend - Very comfortable beds in clean rooms. staff very helpful and the breakfast choice was very good.
- John (8/5): Very pleasant. Would stay and eat there again -
- Susan (8/5): Very good - We had a lovely evening meal and the staff were very pleasant. I have Coeliac disease and there was plenty of gluten free choice for me.
Although the property is in need of an update, there was everything we needed in the room and it was clean and comfortable. There was nothing that would put me off returning. The bedroom was a little on the warm side, but we just opened a window, and at breakfast they had almost run out of pastries and we had to ask for water, milk etc to be replenished, but the staff were very obliging.
- Jo (9/5): Superb -
- Lucy (8/5): It was fine for the purpose of our stay and the staff were lovely - Staff were so helpful and allowed us to check in early as at a wedding. Room was a little dated and the towels all the fluff came off. Too warm and the bed was rock hard.
- Reece (1/5): Bad -
- Celia (5/5): Not the fault of the hotel town is a mass of one-way circuits and after my 6th attempt l quit! - Unfortunately, I never found the hotel because the post code took me to a different location in town. Due to travel disruption I was very late getting to Sleaford and although the staff gave me directions the following morning, I still could not locate the hotel until mid afternoon the next day, having spent the night in my parked car! Not a pleasant experience.
The post code needs more exact location pointer. So I lost my booking money. The fact that the hotel was so difficult to locate. I was there to attend a funeral which I did manage to get to but was quite stressed by the upset and extremely tired because I had spent the night in my car and I still had to drive to Peterborough in the afternoon for another funeral with vehicle problems it was not a pleasant experience. Car was checked by the vehicle dealer in Peterborough and I had an uneventful drive home to Rossendale,
- Paul (7/5): Will be back - Staff and food Bathroom blind rusty
- Masshedar (9/5): Superb -
- Steve (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional - Nice room,
Good dinner and breakfast
- Michelle (7/5): Reasonable- evening meal hot very hot - microwave hot. Breakfast cereal was stuck solid - Quaint and quiet Seemed like it was in need of some TLC
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Tustin (9/5): Superb -
- Lillie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juli (8/5): Very nice place -
- Steve (5/5): Food good, room adequate - Restaurant meal and staff Bedroom was clean but souless.
Bedroon poorly decorated.
Bedside light did not work.
Ensuite door would not close
- Claire (10/5): Comfortable stay in convenient location. - Spacious and comfortable room.
- Janae (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (10/5): Will definitely return, lovely comfortable room, friendly staff - Breakfast was perfect, amazing range of cereals, pastries & fresh fruit . Staff were great, very friendly & didn’t mind our request for cappuccino
- Margaret (9/5): Superb - Food
Staff Chair in bedroom
- Chris (8/5): The basis of a very good hotel crying out for updating - Warm welcome from reception staff with offer to carry bags up to 1st floor room. Pleasant room which was warm, light and airy. Decent sized TV viewable from any aspect. Good local beer, reasonably priced. Evening meal exceeded expectations ; well cooked seasonal dishes with generous portions. Breakfast the next morning followed the same pattern.
Informed by reception that hotel was imminently to change hands but reassured receptionist and chef were transitioning to the new owners. Tired and unappealing aspect with not the greatest of location. Sited between the railway lines and Aldi on a main road the wrong side of the level crossing from Sleaford town centre. Much of car parking taken up by superfluous outside tables leaving available spaces next to a fence with rampant thorny vegetation.
Bath and hand towels had all life boiled out of them leaving them hard, rough and distinctly unpleasant to use. Reminded me of public school in the 'sixties' . Why no fabric softener?
Small area for beverage making above safe height for shorter guests. No glass/plastic beaker in bathroom.
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
- John (8/5): - Good for me in terms of location. Quiet, friendly and efficient staff. Room a bit dated but no big deal for me.
- Spencer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Would definitely stay there again. That's the best recommendation. - The location was very convenient, The room was very spacious with good size bathroom. The the choice of food in the bar and restaurant was excellent and good quality for a reasonable price. The breakfast was freshly and individually cooked. Nothing
- Edward (8/5): Very good -
- Ian (10/5): - All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Particularly the owners who spent time with us over breakfast.
The hotel has a lot history and we were shown around behind the general public areas.
Whilst the bedrooms have not been brought into the present day, and are somewhat retro, they are comfortable, clean and warm.
Would definitely stop here again.
The restaurant/ bistro is a must. Cask beer was faultless.
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (7/5): All together everything was fine and served the purpose, staff were lovely. - Location was ideal. Staff were lovely, very helpful. Girl in the breakfast venue was really bright and helpful! Room could have been a bit more up to date and warmer.
- Sharon (9/5): Will definitely be back to stay again - Very friendly staff and we had an excellent meal in the restaurant
- Terence (10/5): Excellent. - Rooms were great. But the food was exceptional. Definitely would go again for the restaurant alone. 😃
- Alison (10/5): Excellent - I have stayed there 3 times and live the hotel: staff are so friendly and helpful
- Dave (9/5): Superb -
- Meates (9/5): Excellent service from a fantastic Hotel - This hotel is family operated and has been in business 35 years with the current owners. We met both owners during our stay. They are a lovely, engaging couple and the staff were excellent, all friendly and very welcoming. We stayed overnight on NYE, the lunch and dinner were from a set menu, and excellent and well priced for a restaurant. Carre Arms is in a fantastic location, close to public transport (rail and busses) and opposite a supermarket, with the town center an easy 10 minute walk to get to. We stayed in room 24, and the decor felt a little dated, like something from the mid 90s. However, this is the tiniest of nit-picks as our stay was wonderful, the room, restaurant, bar and all common areas were tidy, well maintained, and we would certainly go there again.
- Stephen (7/5): suited our situation - Location to town and eateries
- John (7/5): Both ends of the scale. Staff excellent, room not impressive. - Excellent staff in Reception, the Bar and the Restaurant. Menu and food very good. The rooms are very dated. The furniture has seen better days. It was like stepping back into Faulty Towers. The bed head was against the window, right up against the radiator, such that the space behind the bed was limited, so the curtains blocked out the heat. Room 32.
- Richard (10/5): - Fantastic hotel to stay in food impeccable staff we’re all lovely and helpful parking was really good to ,definitely be staying again
- Dave (8/5): Very good - Decent size car park and a good sized bed Little dated and very pricey for the location other places in sleaford are cheaper for the same standard
- Lianne (1/5): Bad -
- Jack (10/5): Lovely pub, full of character and superb food. - Great location, dinner and breakfast was exceptional. N/A
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Denise (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (9/5): Excellent, would definitely stay again - We had a king size room which had tons of space, with a very large, very comfortable bed, we slept very well indeed. What I liked about the room and the bathroom was that it was decorated to match the building and not in a super modern, sterile way.
The only outside noise was from the train line next to the hotel but as Sleaford isn't a busy station, it wasn't a problem.
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (8/5): Very good - The private / customer balance
- Daniel (8/5): A pleasant stay - Very comfortable beds and great staff (First world problems I know) but no power sockets near the bed and some slight mould in the bathroom (which one notified about they went to action)
- Nige (7/5): Good -
- Visocchi (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (3/5): Poor value for money , I’ve had far nicer stays in the same town for a lot less - Location Quality of furnishings, chipped furniture, no toilet brush in the bathroom, bed not made well , sun standard room for the price
- A (5/5): Passable -
