Guest Reviews
- Ann-Kristin (10/5): - We had a great experience at The Boundary Yala. The accommodation is located close to the entrance of the national park and can be reached from the town of Kataragama within a few minutes by tuk-tuk. The room was spacious and had everything we needed.
Our host was incredibly friendly and organized an amazing safari for us, which he joined himself as our guide. Thanks to him, we were able to see a huge variety of animals and he explained a lot about them along the way. We saw crocodiles, elephants, leopards, a bear, buffaloes, many deer, and all kinds of birds.
Overall, it was excellent value for money, both for the room and for the safari. Nothing :)
Fed oplevelse

- Seara (10/5): - Great location - close to Yala entrance. Clean facilities and good price. Owner is extremely knowledgeable about the Sri Lankan wildlife and a really kind person.

- Anna-Lena (10/5): 100% Weiterempfehlung - Alles super!!
Das sauberstes Zimmer was wir in Sri Lanka hatten.
Kleines Familienunternehmen super freundlich!
- Malgorzata Lidia (10/5): - We had an incredible stay at The Boundary Yala. The host was exceptionally helpful, taking care of every detail from our transfers to the safari itself. Our room was spotless and the AC worked like a charm, which was much appreciated. Make sure to eat here—the home-cooked meals were fantastic, and their chicken curry and kottu were honestly the best we’ve had so far!
As for the safari, they use their own 7-seater jeep. The host actually joined us as a guide and even packed us a great breakfast. What impressed us most was their dedication; they were constantly communicating with other drivers to track down wildlife. Because they worked so hard, we were lucky enough to see buffalo, elephants, and even a leopard, which we managed to spot and photograph twice. I can’t recommend them enough!

- andrea (10/5): CONSIGLIATISSIMO!!!!
- Dawsons (7/5): - The host was incredible, organised a safari through the accommodation. Owner was guide very passionate and knowledgeable.
Was a short stop to go on morning Safari. Cheap room The bed and pillows were not great. Shower was not very good.
- Stefano (10/5): Super consigliato! - Tutto perfetto!

- Nirosha (10/5): - Close to Yala park second gate, the boundary yala premises like a mini forest. Many residence beautiful birds coming to the garden. I watched Indian Pittah also there nowadays.
- Julien (10/5): Best safari experience in Sri Lanka - We were warmly welcomed by the owner, who is both kind and attentive, and truly takes the time to connect with his guests. He is passionate and genuinely interested in people. The safari was outstanding: a good jeep, quality breakfast and lunch, an excellent driver, and our host himself as a professional guide. He knows every species and gave us the real feeling of tracking wild animals together — and we were rewarded with amazing leopard sightings! The best safari service we had in Sri Lanka. The rooms are simple, clean, and functional, and the surroundings are beautiful, natural, and very well maintained. Nothing to mention — everything was excellent.
- Michaela (9/5): - Nice and tidy accommodation with beautiful garden.

- Ilaria (10/5): - Ottima scoperta!
- Mayura De Silva (9/5): Tranquil and Comfortable Escape Close to Yala National Park - The Boundary Yala is set in a very quiet and peaceful location surrounded by a beautiful garden. It's a few kilometers from Kataragama town and conveniently located on the route to the Katagamuwa Entrance of Yala National Park.
The room was spacious, air-conditioned and equipped with all the essential amenities. Both the room and bathroom were clean.
I had the opportunity to witness the Kataragama Esala procession, explore local attractions and go on a safari in Yala National Park while staying here.
The host was incredibly friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and was quick to accommodate any requests.
- Lincoln (9/5): Superb - Clean, friendly and helpful owner
- Katrina (9/5): Superb - Clean room. We left very early to go to Yala national park and is not too far to stay from there. You can get food delivery via Tuk Tuk or I walked 50 minutes into the town (nice walk) and got a Tuk Tuk back
- Mar (8/5): Very good - The owner is super nice, very friendly and cares about nature and the environment. He can arrange a safari for you.
Spacious and very clean room with aircon. A bit tricky to find. Not much water came out of the shower. WC flushing was not working properly, although the owner showed us the trick to use it.
- Issy (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing from start to finish! The host could not have done more, very friendly and always around to help. The safari was incredible and he joined us and shared so much fascinating information. Food here was really good, loved the banana chips they made from their own garden.
- Richard (6/5): Good accommodation for Yala - The property is very good value and extremely clean. The host is a nice man who is very knowledgeable about the area and Yala. The food in comparison to local restaurants seemed a lot and the packed breakfast on the safari was expensive at 2300lkr for white bread cheese sandwich.
In truth the safari that was organised was a bit disappointing compared to the Eco park in Habanara. I know we can’t “expect” to see wild animals but t was an expensive and long five hours with not a lot going on.
If you are keen to go to Yala this is still a good option for staying.
- Elizabeth (5/5): Passable - Shower was warm
Room was very clean Could not get a meal after a long day, wanted $16.50 AUD for breakfast
Owner only engaged when telling the rules ( lots of rules) and taking the money
Pillows were hard and lumpy, felt like they were full of golf balls.
Mattress was very uncomfortable
No kettle or tea/ coffee making facilities
- Lochana (9/5): Amazing location - Loved how welcoming the friendly family who runs the place.
- Theresa (9/5): Superb - It was a very relaxing stay.
The owner is a wonderful men!
So much knowledge and stories and informations not only about the Yala National Park but also about whole Sri Lanka.
I could have listened all day to the stories and informations. Unfortunately I already booked my safari with another company but had I known before I would for sure have taken the chance to go with Uncle.
- Kelly (10/5): Absolutely fabulous! - Kapila & his wife were absolutely brilliant. The room is spacious but very basic (we knew this was from the description and photos). The beds were comfortable and the aircon was effective. There are no shops or restaurants nearby, again we knew this before we got there, and so we ate on-site both nights and the food was absolutely delicious.
Kapila was our Safari guide for a full day safari and was superb, very knowledgeable about the safari park and made the safari a highlight of our holiday. Kapila is a true gentleman and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately there were quite a few mosquitoes around the property, but then you are on the edge of the jungle!
- Hamish (10/5): Couldn't have hoped for a better safari experience - Kapila was a welcoming host and incredible guide, organising 2 full day safaris for us for a very reasonable price & sharing his encyclopaedic knowledge on all of the wildlife we saw in the park. This really elevated the experience for us, as having someone who could identify everything we saw was really helpful - many of the birds we otherwise wouldn't have recognised. He focused our driver on the second day on what we wanted - finding a leopard (which we luckily had a fantastic sighting of). And he made sure to find really skilled drivers for us both days, who always seemed to be in the right places (& at the front of queues in any jeep jams, though we largely avoided these!)
The room's comfy, clean & large. Highly recommend 😊 No WiFi & our mobile reception wasn't great, but we were out all day both days so this wasn't really an issue
- Tom (5/5): I was told 14,000 entrance fee and 16,000 for the jeep. I have spoke to people since who said the entrance fee was cheap - Location is close to Yala national park. The host was welcoming Ants made their way into the room via the sink and the balcony door. This was an issue for me but could easily be prevented and I’m sure not a problem across all the available rooms.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marinus (9/5): Lovely stay and the sweetest hosts - Kapila and his wife are really kind and really helpful. You feel welcome from the very first second. He helped arranging a safari and his wife cooked a lovely meal for us. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Herche (9/5): Superb - We had a Nice stay, the hosts were very kind and love the Nature. Its close to Yala national park and offers tours themselves. Great place.
- Denise (10/5): Great value for money, with delicious dinner - The Boundary Yala is located almost right outside the national park which is great for driving out in the morning.
Kapila and Nirosha, the couple owning the place, go out of their way to make the possible impossible. As I arrived late, we were in regular contact and they waited up for me. The rooms are basic, but have a great value for money. In addition, Nirosha, is cooking fresh local Sri Lankan food every night. It was super delicious. Just be aware that they charge extra for the meal. I booked the safari into Yala park through them and Kapila joined as our tour guide. He is really knowledgeable and passionate about nature, with a special fascination for birds. I also appreciated that I could store my luggage there during the day as I continued my journey in the evening. The couple even was so friendly and followed up that I made it save and sound to my next location. As it is close to nature, there are animals. The hosts made great attempts to keep them outside, incl. red light to avoid mosquitos.
- Damian (10/5): Just perfect - An Unforgettable Yala Safari Experience!
Our recent stay was nothing short of extraordinary, thanks to the incredible guide and the amazing accommodation. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in the beauty and wonder of Yala National Park.
Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the wildlife and ecosystem, making the safari both educational and thrilling. His expertise allowed us to spot a wide variety of animals, including the leopard—a truly unforgettable highlight of the trip! His passion for the animals and the park was evident, and he went above and beyond to ensure we had the best experience.
The room was spotless, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was the perfect retreat after an exciting day of exploring the park.
This experience exceeded all our expectations, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure in Yala. Thank you to the team for making our trip so memorable.
- Katherine (8/5): Clean, comfortable spacious rooms. Friendly staff and delicious food. - Great staff, excellent food and generous portions. We organised our safari from here. Rooms are very clean and spacious. No other options for food - far from town, but an easy tuk tuk ride if you need to get other supplies.
- Lulu (8/5): Very good - We booked the dorm for 6 people as we were in a group. The host was so kind and booked a safari guide for us as he was already taking another group on safari. The room was plain but had AC, flushing toilets, towels, and an outside shower and was amazing value (8100LKR for all of us). It was nice to have a shower under the stars! The breakfast (optional) was $6.50 (includes fruit, cheese sandwich, egg, and chicken sausages) and the beds didn’t have blankets but the room was warm enough that we didn’t need them. Dinner is $10 and optional so we walked into Kataragama but there were not many options.
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - I really enjoyed our stay at the boundary yala. We organised a safari upon arrival with the owner. The owner is an excellent guide and can explain a lot about all the animals and vegetation in Yala. His english is also excellent. Would definitely recommend.
- Measina (10/5): Exceptional - Highly recommend staying at the Boundary Yala especially if you're there for a safari. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I'd probably say the downstairs rooms are best because you can sit outside the rooms on a little porch (upstairs have a balcony but the porch is better). A/C is great, and they also have fans. Hot water also worked great. Kapila was a great host and made sure our stay was comfortable, we had a delicious dinner made by his wife as well. And he took us out on a morning safari which was fantastic and was always happy to answer questions we had about the area. Highly recommend. As others mention it's not very convenient to the main area of town, we walked in and it took us 30-40mins. Not an issue if you have your own vehicle or Kapila can organise a quick tuk tuk ride into town too.
- Jon (10/5): Exceptional - Hospitality from this lovely couple is second to none!
We benefitted from Kapilla's excellent guidance whilst in Yala, seeing no fewer than 3 leopards, elephants and so much more! He took us to quiet locations away from other vehicles as we wanted, identifying birds and plants, his knowledge of Sri Lankan natural history is excellent.
The room was spotless, spacious and comfortable.
- Formescze (9/5): Superb - Nice, quiet, and clean accommodation in nature, just a few kilometers from the entrance to Yala National Park. The owner is a very pleasant man with whom we had great conversations about the park, nature, and more. He was very helpful in organizing an amazing safari. The driver was absolutely fantastic—he had an incredible eye for spotting animals, and I have no idea how he managed to notice everything. We were lucky to see elephants just a few meters from the car, a leopard in a tree, and many other incredible animals and birds. A major pilgrimage site is just a few minutes away by tuk-tuk and is a must-visit.
- Jonathan (10/5): Great stay, and a super Safari - Spacious clean AC rooms very close to Yala’s Katagamuwa entrance. We had our own front porch in a very peaceful private garden setting. The owner and host, Kapila, took care of all our needs, and arranged our full day safari for the next morning. He is a retired environmental journalist who knows plenty about all the SL national parks, especially Yala and the animals. We had an excellent safari driver and jeep. Kapila accompanied us on the safari which was a treat because he shared all his knowledge of the past, present and future of Yala, as well as all the details of every bird, mammal, reptile, insect we saw. The host family cooked us a most delicious homemade meal of rice and curry/fruits and cold beers. Just make sure you let Kapila know that you will want dinner beforehand, and anything else you want. I highly recommend boundary yala for your yala safari and stay. We enjoyed our time there and saw everything and learned a lot about the animals. Nothing
- Selladurai (7/5): Good -
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - Excelent safari experience organised by the Boundary Yala. We strongly advice to take local guide to Yala, who Is very helpfull and able to guide you through less crowded parts of Yala.
- Karen (9/5): Fantastic stay and safari - We stayed in a family cottage. Kapila, the owner and his wife are very hospitable and Kapila knows a lot about the wild life in Yala NP. He organised a fantastic safari in Yala block 5 and Lunugamvehera National Park. Almost the whole day we drove without seeing anyone! Nothing
- Louise (7/5): Fabulous location for exploring the Yala park with a knowledgeable host. - Amazing location for access to the national park, just 15 minutes to the front gate.
The host is knowledgeable about the wildlife and was a fantastic guide around the park.
The meal prepared by his wife in the evening was outstanding. Not a dislike but just to prepare others (as we were not) the property is very remote, so make sure that you have snacks and breakfast ect purchased from the shop before you arrive as there is no way of getting this once here. The owner was helpful and made us sandwiches for the park (which was charged) but it would be better to be prepared.
- Simic (10/5): Excellent stay, it’s so comforting and relaxing to sit on the veranda and enjoy nature! The staff are extremely firebox, - Clean, quiet, comfortable, well maintained Cold water only, but consider is basically in the desert so you can do perfectly find without it!
- Carine (10/5): Exceptional - Good location to the yala park. Great host who arranged and guided us on an excellent safari trip where we were able to see a leopard and elephants from very closeby. We staid the full afternoon in the park and afterwards enjoyed an excellent dinner prepared by the host en his wife. Highly recommended. Nothing
- Chayani (8/5): Very good -
- Indika (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tijs (10/5): Great accommodation! - Really nice helpful host who organised our safari as well and the food was very good! Rooms were spotless and comfortable. A quiet place very close to yala national park. -
- Caroline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keld (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable and they can also arrange all your Safari tours in Yala exactly where and when you want.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were absolutely fantastic, very warm and welcoming. Kapila's knowledge about the flora and fauna in Yala National Park is top level and we would highly recommend doing your safari with him.
The rooms are very spacious, the beds are super comfortable and the hotel is in a very quiet spot so you are guaranteed a good night sleep. The garden is beautiful with lots of bird life around too. Highly recommend staying here!
- Melissa (9/5): Would recommend - Accomodation close to Yala National Park. Perfect location for doing a safari. Short tuk tuk ride from shops. Beautiful nature surrounding the property, well maintained gardens. Extremely peaceful, we had our best nights sleep here after spending 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. Host Kapila kind and interesting guy. We enjoyed our first ever safari with Kapila very much, such a relaxing, cool experience. We saw all kinds of animals that we have never seen before. The food was some of our favourite we have had since being in Sri Lanka.
- Alexandra-i (10/5): A fantastic experience - We arrived at Boudary Villa determined to go on safari with Mr. Kapila, which we did. A unique experience, full of details about the fauna in Yala Park, we warmly recommend that you choose him as your guide. The accommodation is super clean, well maintained, we rested very well, and the dinners prepared for us, by far the best food tasted in a month in Sri Lanka.
- Aruna (10/5): Great experience - The room was clean and spacious. The owners were very friendly and helpful, especially in arranging the safari experience in yala with a safari Jeep 🚙
All organised by Mr Kapila. He was very well informed and presented himself as a real naturalist (Mr Kapila's wildlife knowledge is excellent )
Overall, it was a great experience
I would like to recommend this
- Maria (10/5): Wonderful stay! - The host is very welcoming and helpful! He arranged safari for us.
The room was really clean and spacious. There was everything that we need for a stay!
There is hot water with good pressure!
