- Mike (7/5): - The bathroom had a very bad smell coming from the shower waste tube, to the point it woke us up.
I contacted the shoulder but never had a reply.
- David (8/5): Comfortable and good value for money - Nice evening meal. Pleasant location that had an ‘out in the country’ feel. Comfortable room. No breakfast available. I don’t think that was clear when I booked.
- Hague (7/5): - Lovely wee pub. Entertainment a bonus! The singer was very good. Food good. Just rooms need a refresh on a few things. Decor and furniture mostly. Overall value was fair for what we got. Decor and bed frame!!! Lol
- Gillian (7/5): Good public areas - Good bar and restaurant. Plenty of parking. Good bathroom Bedroom was small for what was a "superior" room and not well furnished. New white linen needed. No one on premises in the morning to help with departure.
- Philip (10/5): Lovely stay - Food amazing No breakfast available
- Roisin (10/5): - The staff were very accommodating and the room was fantastic value.
- Andrew (4/5): Shoulder - Good location Very tired room, in need of some tlc
Dusty, hairs on the sheets.
No breakfast option offered

- Peter Todd (10/5): Stayed overnight for family function, well recommended option to taxying home - Excellent value for money Nothing , cannot fault
- Linda Hind (5/5): - The room and en suite was clean
The bed matteess was comfortable The quilt was thin, not warm enough
The pillows were very uncomfortable
- Nikola (10/5): Deluxe Double Room - Big car park, lovely family running the pub, super dog friendly, great beers on tap, homemade food (proper gastronomy), room was spotlessly clean, spacious and light, smart tv. The only thing..It would be nice to be able to have breakfast as there is nothing around (walking distance). But it was advertised so we were ready.😊
- Debbie (7/5): Okay stay - Lovely place Cobwebs in room no shower gel
Man on bar very slow in serving saw us and then pottered around instead of serving us even though we were waiting the girl served us and she was lovely and polite

- Claire (8/5): Great. Stayed here before and definitely will stay again! Thank you! - NA
- Kara (10/5): -
- johnmh (6/5): not what i expected - the location the room was poorly laid out, stairs very steep, no breakfast available, hardly any sockets, bed availability not accurate , bed comfort poor quality of mattress poor.
- Daniel (2/5): - Not a great place to stay. Room wasn't ready on arrival, arrived after 6pm. Request for 2 double beds as promised, didn't happen. Very old warn and tired accommodation. No option of breakfast. Just not what we expected.
- Sharon (10/5): - The cottage was very homely, easy location and the pub restaurant was excellent. Great service and lovely food. Well worth a visit.
- Lord John (9/5): -
- Ken (8/5): Would recommend, would visit and stay again - Everything was lovely the food and the room was lovely with a tv kettle etc and everywhere was very dog friendly The bed was very uncomfortable in room 3 but that could just be me

- Dave (7/5): Nice 1 night stay at Hardstoft - Plenty of free parking, beautiful location, good looking pub/ b&b.
Good friendly staff, easy access to accommodation, good sleep, quiet and comfortable. Shower was weak. Little pressure, and either cold or very hot. Couldn't find a happy medium.
- Peter (3/5): Nice place to stop for a meal but wouldn’t recommend staying based on the two rooms we had - Food in the restaurant was very good, and the staff were very friendly. The rooms did not Mach the descriptions, and were very cold. We had to swap rooms as the combo boiler located in our bathroom was leaking.
- Beverly (10/5): A great place to stay . A lovely pub and great accommodation - Lovely clean warm room to stay overnight in. The pub was very homely inside with a roaring real log fire. The bar /lounge areas were clean, very nice and it was dog friendly. Lovely staff and the owner was fantastic. I stayed overnight with my 2 dogs who were made a fuss of.
- Gabriela (10/5): -
- Econolodgesurvivor (4/5): Missing a warm welcome - Not the best. The manager gave no eye contact,no smile, warm welcome etc. When taking our order. Given the pub only had a few customers you would hope he would want to make you feel wanted so you returned.
Menu items not available unless pre ordered, not stated on their website. No steaks.
Food was okay, not amazing. Wouldn't go back due to service from manager.
- masonst0rm (6/5): Over night stay basic - Stayed overnight after visiting the pub. Room was very basic and cold when we first entered. Basic tea and coffee facilities bed and storage. Bathroom ok with electric shower. On retuning to the room later it was quite warm, however once in bed a double we found the mattress to be very hard and not comfortable. We didn’t get a good nights sleep as a result . Think all rooms are up stairs which are very steep and once the pub closes you have to use the back door only. To check out you just leave the key in a box at the side of the exit door. No breakfast facilities at all and we didn’t find any where local to go either which was disappointing.
- markhoppus182 (2/5): Why did the staff take pictures of function NOT ON!!!!! - Why did the staff take pictures of function without informing anyone it made me feel very uncomfortable the soft drinks were flat as served from 2litre fizzy drink bottles drinks lack choice and expensive
- Teresa (10/5): Comfortable and pleasant place to stay - Clean , comfortable , warm room too, the radiators were hot . We all slept very well. Very good value for money. All the staff were pleasant. Very close in distance to our aunt and uncle whom we were visiting. No breakfast facilities, but all the positive points far outweigh this inconvenience.
- Andrew (8/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Very Good - Lovely pub with comfortable rooms and excellent food.
- Louise (9/5): - Warm welcome.
We had an excellent steak dinner.
Room comfortable and clean.
Shower lovely and hot.
Location was good for us to explore Hardwick Hall the next day.
- Matthew (9/5): Clean room. Great value. Excellent food. - Room basic but clean and functional and fantastic value. Food was excellent.
- Leanne (8/5): -
- Gill (8/5): We stay for one night and celebrated my daughter’s 18th in the restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff were very - We stayed in the cottage it was very clean and I loved the decoration of the rooms N/A
- Ian Kellett (10/5): -
- Angela (9/5): - What a lovely pub, fantastic food and beer, lovely warm and comfortable, clean rooms. The staff were excellent, the owners very welcoming, we would definitely stay again
- kevin (7/5): - Nice rural location, but close enough to Nottingham for business purposes. Maybe provide complimentary shower gel, also de-caff coffee.
- Mark (5/5): -
- Michael (8/5): A clean comfortable and friendly stay. Really good value for money - The friendly welcome and helpful staff throughout. The food was excellent. They do not serve breakfast so cannot comment on that. Nothing.
- Lesley (4/5): Just ok - Was just ok Rooms dated . Staff unavailable until 1100 am every morning self checkout .food not as shown on website
- Paul (7/5): Ticks a lot of the boxes for a value for money one night stay over - Hosts were very welcoming, food was excellent and great value, and the beer on offer was very nice. Needs a little investment, change the 1960's threadbare carpets and pay a little more attention to cleaning as dust in my room had gathered in certain areas.
- Christine (8/5): -
- Lesley (3/5): Will not return - In the countryside Food poor , no breakfast , staff quite abrasive , rooms very dated
- Frank (10/5): -
- Julie (8/5): Comfortable stay, staff very friendly food was lovely - Location ideal for visiting family over Christmas, dog friendly & a lovely open fire
- Y4114QEcharlesw (6/5): Nice location but lacked atmosphere - Sunday lunch visit for a family gathering. Dark and cold inside with long waits for service. Friendly team but food was very average with meats rather tough, over cooked small portions of veg and the most disappointing Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever been served. Crying out for thick piping hot onion gravy to soften them up. Sea bass was delicious but instead of presenting the meal with sauce on the side, it came covered and spoilt the dish with most of the food left uneaten. Don’t know why they didn’t light the fire and make the area more welcoming. A customer came to sit near the fire took one look grumbled and moved on. First time visit but expected much more and unfortunately, even though some family members have moved into the area this is a pub I won’t return to. Pity it’s got so much potential.
- Dawn (9/5): - Welcoming atmosphere. Good food. Rooms comfortable and clean Nothing
- Terry (10/5): - Very clean & well presented. Easy access to the pub
- 59cherylw (4/5): Disappointing Christmas Day Lunch Experience at £80 per person!! - We were very disappointed with our Christmas Day Dinner experience. We were seated in the function room, which was cold, had a damp smell, and wasn’t decorated in any festive way. With children running around and playing, it felt more like a community hall or playroom than a venue hosting a special Christmas meal. Our table was a temporary pull-out table with no decorations, no table water, no glasses, and only cheap crackers.
The food was cold when it arrived. My wife ordered the potato and leek soup, which didn’t even come with a bread roll. I ordered a glass of Prosecco, as there was no welcome drink or table drink included, and it was £9 per glass.
I am not someone who complains easily, but when you are paying £80 per person for Christmas Dinner, over a thousand pounds for a group of 13 before drinks and bedrooms, you expect a warm, festive, and enjoyable experience. Instead, it felt like a budget meal in a village hall.
We were so disappointed that we ended up having a Boxing Day Christmas dinner at home just to try to regain some festive spirit. We appreciate it was Christmas Day and staff and running costs are high, but this meal was not value for money on any day of the year!

- granny5959 (10/5): Great food and beer - Absolutely great, stayed as Britstop stopover so cant comment on rooms. We were a bit concerned having read the reviews but we were pleasantly surprised, the owners were very welcoming, very friendly and attentive, working flat out, our food was delicious, ive got so used to being disappointed by expensive but horrible food i wasnt expecting much but our meals , we had fish n chips, and salmon, we couldnt fault. They were delicious. Good atmosphere, interesting building, good beer. Yes there is a 5% ser vice charge which being a grumpy old git im normally against but on this occasion I didnt mind and we were asked unlike in Skye where they slapped 20% on and didnt ask! (I understand why people are annoyed if they were not asked but we were. Reasonable prices(well relatively, everywhere is expensive nowadays). The couple running it are doing an excellent job, obviously trying really hard. Decor is a little dated but they are obviously working through. Our dog was welcome. Had a smashing evening.
- charlespJ3586QS (2/5): Poor quality and service. We will never return. - We went with 2 other couples a month or so ago, the meal was very nice.
However today was a different story. 2 friends chose fish and chips, it was a case of hunt the fish in the batter. !!! They complained but the only reply was to give them some more chips. My partner chose a childs roast, it was not even enough for a baby!!! The sweet was reasonable but the custard was a miserly
amount. The service was slow and as a previous reviewer reported a service charge was added. We're sorry but we will not be spending anymore money here.
- Tsilc (2/5): Inedible food - Location, atmosphere good.
Food was completely inedible.
Would not recommend going there to eat.
Had to send main courses back. Spoilt our family Christmas meal.
We were a family of 23
- sandra (8/5): Lovely place otherwise, staff very friendly. - Location and very friendly We had booked a table for 4. They had a large party booking so the delay in ordering/getting food was severely delayed. Had we been made aware of this, we would have booked a table elsewhere.
- colin (4/5): Not for me - The best filler steak that I’ve had for a long time. Delicious The heating didn’t work so I had to use all the spare blankets to keep warm
Paper peeling off walls, ridges in the mattress, no TV reception on any channel.
Not a nice room at all.
- andrew (6/5): Adequate, would so much better if chemical air freshener removed - Staff friendly Room had very strong smell of chemical air freshener made eyes sting
- Keith (9/5): - Good price
No charge for dogs
Clean Nothing
- Percy (8/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): Lovely country pub with great staff, fab food and comfortable rooms - Had a lovely overnight stay while visiting family. The staff are lovely, really dog friendly, fantastic food, a fun quiz night and great room. Very comfortable stay, had a great sleep. Looking forward to coming back at Christmas 😊 A hairdryer in the room would be useful. No staff around in the morning to ask once I realised the room didn't have one.
- Teresa (8/5): Great value for money in - Clean , comfortable , great value for money. Nothing
- Phillip (8/5): -
- Michele (10/5): Lovely - Lovely location, great facilities, host very helpful & food served in the bar, very good. Note pub is on the main road, Sat nav takes you to a country lane, close by but some other property.
- Amanda (7/5): Great value for money, great food and welcoming staff - Great food and fabulous staff Didn’t serve breakfast
- Steve (7/5): -
- Paula (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): -
- Roger (9/5): A comfortable good value stay - A lovely location and very comfortable room .
Excellent value.
- Martyn (9/5): -
- john (7/5): -
- shaw (10/5): - Friendly clean cosy rooms
- Hayley (7/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Cosy friendly and great value - Great location. Clean comfortable and good food and drink. Lovely staff. We had a huge laugh at the fun quiz night whilst enjoying our dinner. More vegetarian options for dinner would have been good but didn’t affect our thoughts would stay again
- Distance0106 (4/5): Rushed and involuntary gratuity charged without knowledge - Felt rushed, went for steak night but they were more keen to hear how we wanted them cooking before we had been asked what our drink orders were! When asked about meal one friend said it was nice but the onion rings were more batter than onion and the reply was ‘well that’s how we make them’ wasn’t busy either, work to be done on customer derived and then to be charged gratuity without being asked, check ya receipts before ya leave is our advise.
- A1293PIalanj (6/5): Rushed and expensive - felt like we were an incovenience - **⭐️ 2 out of 5 stars**
We were really looking forward to our meal here, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish.
When checking in at reception, the staff member actually stopped midway through dealing with us to serve someone else. Even the other guest apologised for his rudeness — not a great first impression.
The menu was another letdown. It wasn’t the one shown online and instead was a much smaller, limited version. Considering the pub was fairly empty, the service still felt rushed and chaotic — like they were on a timer to get food out as quickly as possible. Two of our plates were practically thrown onto the table, and the staff seemed more interested in getting back to something else than actually serving customers. It honestly felt like we were an inconvenience.
We were also seated at a huge oblong table, which made conversation awkward for our group of four — hardly the cosy, family-style meal we’d hoped for. There was a live singer in the next room, so perhaps the staff were distracted or under pressure, but it still doesn’t excuse the poor service.
As for the bill — £130 for four meals, with no alcoholic drinks, felt excessive, especially when two of those meals were just sausage and mash. The food itself was okay, but certainly not worth the cost given the overall experience.
All in all, an underwhelming visit. A shame, as the place has potential, but we definitely won’t be rushing back.
- Kazzzzz2019 (10/5): Fab friendly pub - Fabulous Saturday evening out. This place is excellent such a friendly pub with fabulous staff. Tribute Act Queen ( Justin Gilbody) was excellent, the best Queen Tribute Iv ever seen such an amazing voice. Food always fab here also so overall cannot fault anything and would highly recommend 👌
- Keith (8/5): We only stayed one night but really enjoyed our stay. The pub was lovely, - Everything. No complaints
- JulieE804 (10/5): Great evening out! - Booked as a table of 10. The food was delicious and the service amazing. Fish and chip Friday with a free pint is just too good to miss. Will certainly return for one of the upcoming tribute nights!
- R3681NDbenc (6/5): Average - Average place with average facilities. Poor quality shower. Tv has very few channels. Bed was comfortable but a bit small and I’m only 5”10.
- Michael (4/5): - It was dog friendly and the food and drink were reasonably priced. Food was nice and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The bed, although small for a hotel, was comfortable. The room and bathroom, whilst basic, were clean. The room was barely big enough to accommodate the bed and basic furniture. It's not possible to get any sleep until the pub has fully closed as any conversations and music are easily heard through the floor. You can also hear everyone leaving the pub.as well as the clean up. This means that anyone wanting an early night will be disappointed. The TV is bizarrely stuck using a Samsung plus service that is dependent on the WiFi. Unfortunately this buffered every few seconds. It's not possible to just watch normal TV.
- Julia (9/5): Great overnight stop - would recommend dinner and stay - Beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, very tasty dinner, clean room.

- Peter (9/5): Absolute Gem - This pub restaurant is a little gem. So inspiringly decorated and the staff are extremely friendly. We ate in the restaurant and were really impressed with the quality, quantity and presentation. The staff were so helpful and professional. We would be happy to return and even more happy to recommend this to anyone looking for somewhere to stay.

- Peter (8/5): Perfect for a night or two away - Lots of parking, welcoming staff, good rooms, great food Nothing
- mariesN4628EN (4/5): Cost did not match the quality of the food. Service was weird. Great place for drinks. We shall not return for food. - Positioned in a nice area, xlose to local villages, near the 5 pits trail and hardwick hall. Apparently has nice events here, which we have never been to. Lots of parking. Not great for walking to from the local areas and is situated away from shops, but a nice open location next to main roads access. Can be difficult to get to if not driving, it would be a taxis, there is a bus stop very close by but they are buses are very few of these running along there.
We are local and never been here for food. We decided to give it a try and prebooked here for a meal with other local friends. Confusing behaviours from staff & owner upon arrival about seating us. We was seated in the snug area to the right. Seemed to have a weird sewage smell behind our back.
We was given an A4 specials menu, no other menu. I am a vegetarian that does not eat fish, not vegan. Only one vegan option. We reviewed the online menu, to make sure there was something we all liked. Despite us questioned this, we was told the one online is a sample menu. It is not, this is not stated online. 2 of us wanted lamb shank, this was not an option at 6pm, apparently they had sold out of the "cheaper" options. We was not pleased with the options available, or the prices. The only steak options were T bone at £34.95 each. Plus added cost of sauce which was not stated. So peppercorn or Stilton sauce at £3.50 each. I was not impressed with the price of a vegan lasagne at £16.00 I was told only salad comes with it (salad being leafs no onion, tomato, cucumber, Peppers anything at all just leafs and balsamic vinager). So I ask if I could order a side of chips.
Food came, but came with chips. The young lad said he would remove off the bill because of what i had been told. The chips were like chip shop chips too, looks of hard inedible scraps. I was left underwhelmed. My Husband said his T bone was nice but not worth the money. Upon ordering the steak, they were asked if they would like it cooked? That left us confused.
Another guest in our group had the shoulder burger at £16.95. Which they said was ok, but they didn't want this. They wanted something off the online menu.
Each cocktail I ordered (priced between £8.50 to 8.95 each), the owner would bring them over present it and introduce what was in it. I knew as I had a menu I had collected myself from the bar. It was a bit cringey. At one point a lady joined him to ask if it was one of our birthdays, when I answered no she just disappeared and it was all very unusual. The pudding was nice. We had sticky toffee pudding.
We approached the bar for our bill. As we had been consuming a few alcoholic beverages we did not notice they had not removed the chips cost at £4.50 and they added on a gratuity charge of £10.10. Which i do not have a problem with but it would be nice if the bill had been given at the table so that we can review it and determine what was what and if it was earnt. Instead we had to get the bill with the owners waiting for immediate payment. Our total bill came to £212.05. I personally felt underwhelmed and annoyed I had not seen that the chips were not removed from the bill, we all wished we had left and gone somewhere else.
I think they need to remove their online menu, state it is only seasonal upon availability, like elm tree at heath. I think they are over priced for what it was. Cocktails were nice, but may be just politely bring them over, there is no need to add in the cringey presentation.
I would return for drinks, not for food. A drinks menu would have been useful to have at the table also. I think for future reference, there servers should know their menu better to better inform guests, obviously the kitchen and front of house are not well.in sync. Plus the bill should be given at the table, then staff to return shortly after or guests be advised to pay at the bar to give time to look at this.
We stayed for 3 hours and it was nice to not feel like we needed to rush away from the tables. It seemed busy ish for food, but not so much that we would expect on a Saturday night. 3 of the 4 tables in our bit had other guests at it, but the family to our left did not seem very happy with their experience either. Even if these improvements were made, I do not feel I want to return for food again, it was overpriced and underwhelming for the price.
- Beryl (10/5): Really enjoyed it - Staff were really friendly
- Taylor (1/5): Absolutely awfull - Television didn't work for a start and half a bottle of water that may of been there weeks .. disgusting
- Philippa (10/5): A comfortable stay - It was tidy and clean with welcoming staff Nothing
- Tanya (8/5): - Good location near Hardwick Hall. Spacious double room. Comfy bed. Good food for evening meal. Plenty of parking Slightly bigger duvet required for 2 people.
