Guest Reviews
- Thomas (6/5): - The host was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was simple but freshly cooked, warm water only in the evening (but we got informed), wifi only at reception.
We stayed the night before and after safari and for that it is enough if you dont expect to much. We were the only europeans here, rest locals, this was a nice introduction for us to africa. Restaurant in the house for evening with good price (for europa stndard, not local), daladala station in front of the hotel (thats why also quite loud - however Anna gave us the most quiet room she had)
- Zanarttours (10/5): Good stay & affordable price - My stay was supper around meru house the room is extremely good with private bath with heater shawer.
Breakfast was really nicely and dinner as well high recommendation for all friendly stuff and waitress ๐๐
- mireiar694 (6/5): Basic place to stay - Good location only 10min walking from the station. The rooms are basic and simple. They have hot water that works sometimes.
Wifi is not working all the time.
The breakfast consists in omelete and bread.
- Mseni (8/5): Good stay, nothing special but alright - If you want a cheap "ok" option, Meru House Inn would be a decent choice. It's not exactly nice (aesthetically pleasing), but it does the job.
The staff was super nice.
Breakfast was typical of hotels in the area.
The room was alright, it wasn't a bright, vibrant place. I didn't have a problem with noise.
Location: close to Shoppers supermarket. Can easily walk there.
All in all, for the same price, I'd stay there again.
I would recommend it to someone looking for a decent budget option.
I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wanted a NICE (looking) place.
- gliustik (8/5): Nice budget hotel with hot shower and breakfast - Hotel looks like a student apartment and definitely not for the faint hearted. Good location with all the essentials at a great price. A bed, tv, a reasonable bathroom and a very nice breakfast, and a small bar/food shop. Recommended to backpackers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I've stayed here before so know what to expect. I arrived with two huge bags and the staff were really helpful in helping me get them upstairs and to my room. The setup is a bit noisy if you keep your windows open for breeze, and light filters in, but I knew that booking here. Its a great if you're arriving from a long flight and can sleep through anything. They have a decent breakfast and are always helpful.
- maciek198407 (8/5): Decent room for a good price - We spent there one night after safari so it was like a castle ๐ But to be honest โ the room was decent, clean and the bed was comfortable and the water was hot :). I did not have a chance to see neighborhood so I cannot tell anything about it. What I can say that in the hotel there is a restaurant with delicious food for a really good price, it was ma only meal in continental Tanzania, but to compare with Zanzibar prices โ whole meal cost more or less the same as one dish on Zanzibar. Additionally, staff is very friendly and helpful. Grate option for a night before or after the safari.
- 496annettw (10/5): Perfect stay - Our stay at Meru Inn was perfect! They picked us up from the bus station (for free) and dropped us off there at the end of our stay as well. The food was good, the room was clean and the staff outstanding caring and friendly. We booked our 2 day trip to lake Natron with their company and had an amazing time, as well as a well organised tour.
Thank you guys!

- LenaW425 (10/5): Everything you need (budget) - Meru House Inn is a very nice Guest House. It has lots of rooms (very affordable: 25000 for a double room without breakfast, 35000 for a double inklusive breakfast). The beds are big, mosquito nets are big enough and without holes, bathroom with hot shower and very clean. Restaurant and laundry service available. All in all very recommendable. We would definitely come again.
- Ollantaytamb0 (6/5): Good if you are desperate :))) - The inn is close to the city centre, but that is its only good point. The rooms we had were basic and in dere need of refurbishing. We slept for two nights, but asked for a different room, as the first one had a plumbing pipe going straight through the room and the noise was discomforting whenever somebody flushed the toilet. Well, in the second one the noise from the street was quite nasty, so not mucg difference. No AC, not even fans, but we had TV in the second room (maybe also in the first one, but I don't remember). The price was ok for what they were offering. The wi-fi they were advertising was going on in waves, as usual in Tanzania, and only close to the router.
- torih526 (10/5): Amazing, Friendly staff! - My boyfriend and I stayed at Meru House Inn in December 2017. We showed up very late after the long bus ride from Dar. Getting off the bus we met Emanuel. He brought us to the hotel, gave us the best price, and organized an amazing Safari experience for us for the next morning. Emanuel took us to local places to eat and made sure we were comfortable and well looked after.
The room was basic, but had everything needed to spend a few nights. The shower was nice and consistantly hot which was a pleasant change from other places we'd been at. The bed was comfy and the room was a good temperature for sleeping.
We had a very nice stay at Meru House Inn and I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a nice/functional room for a very good price as well as lovely staff, filling breakfast, and last minute safaris!
- TomI764 (2/5): low service quality - I stayed there for 2 nights. The food is ok. The people in the restaurant are very nice. The rooms however have a low quality. There were no towels the 2nd day. You have to ask for them. The pipe to to water tank is very noisy.
I won't go there anymore.
- sivy1000 (6/5): Central location, noisy guests... - I stayed there for two nights. The room was clean, bed comfy. Can't say about food because was out too early to have breakfast.
The hot water was erratic - you had to wait for some time to have it going again.
But the most annoying is noisy guests playing music and shouting for the whole night (they were locals - not tourists) - in and outside of the rooms. It seemed like no one from the hotel staff paid any attention to this - so I couldn't have proper sleep while staying there.
So if you decide to stay there take some really heavy duty ear plugs...
- StevenLmr (8/5): Friendly staff and good location - I came to spend some days in Arusha and was not disappointed at all. The staff is very friendly and helps everytime you need something or have a question. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The prices therefore are very fair and affordable.
The city centre can be reached easily by taxi, motorcycle or a short walk along the big roads, since it is located not too far from the regular tourist destinations and shopping spots like nakumatt.
Furthermore, I could easily book a Safari to a national park at a company that is managed by one of the staff members. It included a stay in another place for a good price, just the day before the trip began and could be booked without any big complications.
In the end, I enjoyed my stay there and highly recommend this place.
- tobiasr620 (8/5): Calm and friendly - We stayed at Meru House Inn for 4 nights before and after our safari tour. The rooms are clean and spacey. The staff (especially Geoffrey) is extremely helpful. Our stay a Meru House Inn was a true pleasure! Thank you
- JacksonB1 (8/5): Basic, but has everything you need - I stayed at the Meru House Inn on two separate occasions in the first half of 2017, and both of my stays were very good. The price is reasonable, the beds are comfortable, breakfast is good, and the showers work well. I stayed here my first night in Tanzania and it was certainly different from a hotel in the United States, but it was an enjoyable stay nonetheless. My second stay was several months later, and knowing what to expect made it seem much better than it had the first time. The complementary breakfast, like everything else at the hotel, is simple compared to a U.S. hotel but more than met my needs. I don't know what prices are like at other hotels in Arusha, but I felt that this was good value. There was free wifi, but it didn't really work in the rooms. If you are down in the reception area or the dining area it works well.
Overall, if this were a hotel in the United States, it would still be pretty good value, but I would have rated many of the aspects of the hotel lower. Relative to what I experienced during my 3 month stay in Tanzania, however, I have rated it highly because compared to much of the country it is quite nice.
- Daven82 (8/5): good central place to stay - Stayed a few nights when I first arrived then again on return from Lake Natron...a good budget place to stay. Short walk from bus station. restaurants etc. and walking distance to museum and other sites. Money changers a couple doors away. The lady at reception is great. Good complimentary breakfast in the restaurant, and good meals and beers. Couldn't get the wi-fi to work (seemed to work for others) but bought a local SIM for my phone and all good. Took an early am bus to Lake Natron and as it was still dark-ish the 'gate man' walked me to the bus station for security. Would for sure stay again if I return.
- loesm2016 (8/5): Pleasant - A friend recommended this place, and now I recommend it to others. Ok, the place doesn't look very cosy or anything. But rooms are clean and good value for money. It's only a few steps away from a big supermarket and a square with restaurants. Also: not far from the airport. Staff is friendly, and they offer good cheap food.
- 536patricke (10/5): Good affordable hotel in Arusha - We had a twin room. Everything was clean, mosquito nets were there and in a good shape.
Laundry service cleaned my clothes on the same day.
Showers have hot water which worked very well.
Breakfast was very good with toasted bread, omelette, sausages,...
- Franziska_Kifaranga (8/5): Good value for money, basic & clean hostel close to TFA complex & city centre - I stayed at Meru Inn several times over the past couple of years, most of the times alone and always felt safe.
Meru is basic but clean, the rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and hot water, both nice extras that you can't expect in all of Arushas low-budget places! It's definitely good value for money!!
It's just down the street from the TFA complex which houses a big supermarket and several shops, banks, internetcafes, restaurants/cafes etc. and also not far from the clocktower area.
Most of the times I go to a nice local cafe almost next door for breakfast (usually included in the price but can be bargained over) that offers nice Tanzanian alternatives (chapati, mandaazi, vitumbua, milk tea, etc), but that's just by private choice.
Wouldn't recommend the restaurant though for lunch/dinner, there are better options at the TFA complex (Stiggbucks, Empire, Alpha Burger, Ciao...) / in town.
There are always taxis available just outside the hostel (you can also ask the staff to help you get one) which is especially convenient at night / when going out for dinner
If you are looking for a centrally located, basic & low-budget hostel that also offers you the privacy of an en-suite, clean bathroom, Meru Inn is the place to stay!
- frejkarin (8/5): Nice and clean - At this hotel you get a nice and clean room with integrated bathroom. They have hotwater at all times and the rooms have a nice atmosphere. Breakfast is included. Friendly staff who were honest and helped us out and explained the best way for us to get to Moshi.
- 132vicentk (4/5): Can do Better - I stayed two nights, nice Economic hotel,in the city center.my stay was OK except my last night.there were too noises during the night I couldn't sleep well just one room close to mine. There were kind of fight screaming even knocking my door hardly.the fun thing the receptionist was there but seems to enjoy the show. I thought may be we were attacked I couldn't even open my door .I asked Beef with steamed Veggies for my dinner they brought with few grilled veggies and slices of cucumber and tomotoes???what's Wonder.
All in all they can do better.
