Guest Reviews
- Leigh (4/5): - Good use of a small space, nice decor, comfortable cosy bed, 24 hour access, shower pressure brilliant, lovely towels, breakfast self service and available 24hrs. Room cold in the evening yet in the early morning the timer kicks in and the heat wakes you up - no thermostat control on radiator. Bathroom absolutely freezing, nowhere to hang towels or put your toothbrush. Room very clean aside from the blanket which judging by the smell of it had been used by multiple guests and never washed. Sink far too small to wash face, you can just about wash your hands. Water sprays out of the shower cubicle unless you aim the head straight down. Live in staff very noisy in the mornings. Breakfast very basic - white bread with that day's date on, butters and jams, cereals decanted into containers so no best before dates, 1 flavour yoghurt, sad looking fruit bowl, the cheapest toaster you could find that only toasts half a slice at a time. Not replenished frequently i.e. no knives at 9am, nowhere to put used items, no sink or napkins. Felt like a burden when politely asking for a spoon for my yoghurt.
- Karen (8/5): Excellent food, comfortable stay. Highly recommend. - The Tavern was easy to find and the staff were absolutely lovely. The room was comfortable. If you’re after luxury this isn’t the place, but for a person/couple exploring the Peak District it is fantastic. Breakfast (included) was continental self-serve, which set me up for the day. I ate dinner there on my second evening and the food was exceptional and plentiful. Definitely good value for money. Highly recommend.
- Kristina (8/5): -
- Gavin (8/5): good old pub accom - local pub to matlock and cosy nothing
- Jo (8/5): -
- Tessa (5/5): The Taste Of The Tavern - The food and service was excellent. Very friendly bar staff. Very small en-suite with no heating. Sink too small and shower rail not fitted to wall properly. Very noisy road which became busy from 5am. Room very cold on arrival which was rectified by staff member on asking for heating to be but on. Although it was reasonably priced i was expecting slight more after reading the excellent reviews.

- Robert (7/5): I like the place and staff. - Toilet in the room did not flush well due to little water in the cistern in the plumbing. poor flushing of toilet in the room

The light self serve breakfast was really nice, although we didn't dine at the pub the menu
did look good but we were already meeting friends in Matlock. Staff were extremely welcoming.
- Izzy (10/5): -
- Hailey (8/5): Everything was very good except for the hand basin - It was as described, it was value for money. The hand basin in the room was far too small making it difficult to use

- Carl (10/5): Chilled out - It's just chilled here and got what I wanted just a relaxing break away from the kids
- Don (9/5): - Staff were friendly, polite and very helpful
- Elaine (7/5): A very basic room okay for one night - It was an ideal location for the one night to friends Expected a nicer room found it very basic, furnishings old and room decor poor
- Scotney (8/5): The stay had all the potential of a good holiday, spoilt by the previous stated failings. - The breakfast was supplied free so very good. The location was quiet. The staff were polite. The bathroom was small. More like a cupboard. The main problem with the bathroom was the sink. It was so small it wasn't possible to fill the kettle, we had to use cups. The bedroom radiator was off more than it was on. So without a fan heater the room temperature was very low.
- Istvan (9/5): - Attentive and accommodating staff, clean room, good meal, ample parking, quite village location.
Good value for money.
My new favourite place for when I'm in the area.

- Jacky (9/5): A very enjoyable stay. We would stay there again. - The welcome. Opportunity to help ourselves to a continental breakfast. The room was warm and comfortable. I know it couldn't be altered but the ensuite bathroom was very small and I could have done with a couple of hooks on the wall to hang up towels / clothes.
- stephen (10/5): very pleased - friendly staff good selection of drinks nice dining room good food plenty of free parking good location
- Garry (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (7/5): - Great meal and pub, very helpful staff. Friendly. Room felt a little old. Didn’t really like the carpet or want to put my stuff down. The shower didn’t drain that well.

- Chris (8/5): Room was basic but clean but was priced accordingly, it was perfect for us and would recommend to anyone for a short st - Great value stay in a great location close to Matlock, the pub restaurant looked nice too although we had already booked to eat in Matlock itself, but would have definitely eaten there otherwise
- Mike (8/5): Loved it - Very friendly and accommodating staff. Food was exceptional and nice selection of drinks at the bar. Very friendly atmosphere. Room was lovely and clean. We had a great stay
- catherine (9/5): Quiet and relaxing. - The staff are very welcoming. Hannah the bar manager is a brilliant asset to the pub. We did encounter a problem with the shower, we reported it to Hannah and she did offer to move us, but we were fine staying in that room.

- april (10/5): Definitely will be staying here again - Friendly, beautiful and clean good value for money , just wished I had dined thier but was shattered, as passing through the restaurant the food looked an amazing. All great
- Heather (10/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): -
- Tyrone (10/5): Just perfect! Although they don’t serve breakfast on weekends they do a complimentary toast and cereal breakfast bar, wh - Great place to escape reality and relax, staff were fantastic and food was great.
Was very cosy and perfect location if you like a walk into Matlock and good bus connections right outside if needed. N/A

- Adams (7/5): Arrival was a little bumpy one member of staff left to deal with a busy bar make colleague disappeared tried to get assi - Nice atmosphere food was great very relaxing environment in bar. Rooms were very basic need a bit of TLC a few more touches would be nice in terms of the rooms decor. Breakfast bar upstairs is not in good place needs to be re thought.
- Sharon (9/5): - Lovely and friendly staff, room was very comfortable and clean.
Continental breakfast included in the price which is great if you don't want a big breakfast. Nothing really, all was good
- Victoria (7/5): Good value for the money - The facilities were good for the money , continental breakfast included ,The staff we met were nice . We came back from visiting Bakewell at 10.30 ,in time for a drink in the bar before going to our room ,for the pub to be shut ,we were disappointed .
- George (7/5): This is a very comfortable traditional pub. It is lovely and welcoming and the staff are great. - Continental breakfast included was as expected and absolutely fine.
The service in the bar/restaurant was speedy and courteous. Food was good and they had my favourite Timothy Taylors Landlord on tap. The room was very small and dated. The bed was soft but very comfortable. We had booked a garden view but the window looked over a flat roof.
It wasn't the owners fault that the couple in the room next door had a blazing row for several hours.
