- Asimwe (9/5): Spactacular - The property is just few minutes away from town and it well known by badaboda and taxis. Beautiful scenery and suitable for family trips with kids as it has spacious area for kids to play Nothing for real everything was just perfect
- Antonius (10/5): Fantastic - The included breakfast is fantastic! The lunch and dinner menus are also diverse and the prices are very reasonable. We kindly received a free upgrade to superior rooms, which were amazing with huge windows into the forest. The staff is very friendly and can accommodate any wishes. The bar is also fun!

- Janusz (3/5): Nigdy więcej - Gniazdka elektryczne miały wejścia EUR i USB i USB-c. A recepcjonista powiedziała "sorry"

- Priyaranjan (8/5): - The place is good, service needs to improve. The dinner served was not good at all. Either the chicken or the oil used as very old - was not eatable. Worst is, the hotel staff was not even concerned.
At breakfast, they took a long time to get some eggless pancakes.
However the waitress was good enough to pack it and give.
- Hörstemeier (10/5): Ein Ort, wo man sich sofort wohlfühlt ☺️ - Wundervolle gepflegte Anlage, ganz toller Garten und Pool, freundliches Personal, schönes Zimmer, leckeres Essen.
- Jutta (9/5): Great stay in Lushoto - Great, quiet location with a wonderful garden including pool close to the center of Lushoto. Very friendly staff, great restaurant with good breakfast and dinner, convenient laundry service, perfect support with organizing bus tickets to Moshi. We also appreciated that Shambaa Eco Tours was located directly on the premises. We did two excellent hiking tours with them. There is a mosque close by and the muezzin woke us up every night / early morning.
- Michael Mosebo (9/5): Fine Place in Lushoto - Nice verandah Decent garden Mediocre buffet in an otherwise pleasant restaurant

- Robert (10/5): Amazing - Everything was amazing. The staff were lovely, welcoming and they made the stay amazing. 100% recommend.
- Christine (9/5): - Aufmerksames Personal.
Gutes Essen.
- Peter (10/5): - Alles sehr gut
- Tone (9/5): Liked it so well we came back after a week! - The atmosphere! The staff! The view! Place with a history - loved it! Some rooms (very few) facing the village can be bothered by noise ar night.

- Alexandre (10/5): - Our stay at Laws Hotel was perfect and resourcing, we received an upgrade of our room. Thank you to all the team !
- Siobhan (10/5): best if your not camping. Hotel is wonderful. - location, staff, beautiful building, great bar & menu bathrooms for campers were dreadful

- Uzi (9/5): Great Value - Green large grounds. nice Colonial feel. great staff, good food. help with local tours and large cosy room with a fire place the massage was very good, but the masseuse spoke on the phone a few times
- Aster (10/5): - De ligging is perfect.
- Chloe (8/5): Charming stay in Lushoto - The entire staff were so friendly and accommodating, which really helped as we were travelling with young children. It was especially nice chatting with the manager, Shakira, who we found lots of common with! The actual common areas, both inside and outside, were quaint and comfortable, with a bit of a summer camp lodge vibe. Having an evening fire was a nice touch; would recommend bringing some marshmallows to toast! Dinner is only served from 7pm, which can be limiting.

- Witleeuwinnetje (9/5): - Mooie ruime kamer.
Kingsize bed.
- Lars (8/5): -
- Barry (8/5): An experience that I will remember for the right reasons. - The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful. The hotel has that old world african vibe that a lot of tourists look for. Outside seating area is great for pre dinner drinks. The fires inside are very welcome and add to the oldy worldy club style. The food could be improved upon. Dinner was pleasant and value for money but the breakfast was lacking in options and presentation. It is a pity as it is one of the things that can easily be improved upon especially in a small intimate hotel like lawns.
- Ies (8/5): Nice place to stay!
- Robin (9/5): Superb - Great staff, nice bar.
- Anna (9/5): Enjoyed this lodge! - Staff was very friendly and the location was excellent. Wi-Fi did not reach the room, but was very strong in the common areas. Hot water was available, but is provided by the staff lighting a fire. We didn’t realize this on the first night, but the following day, they were willing to accommodate our schedule for hot water.
- Peter (8/5): Good place to relax a few days. Walking tour need to be guided which is rather expensive - Nice place, good swimming pool and terras All was ok
- Shehzada (10/5): It was extrodinary. - I liked everything about the trip. The manager Shakira was great and the guide Gilbert form shambaa was also very kind and wise.
- Ally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Faryal (8/5): Very good -
- Daniel (10/5): Very friendly staff and quiet place to relax - Very friendly staff. They even stored our luggage for a small fee. The area is clean.
- Katherine (10/5): Wonderful stay in the mountains - Lawns hotel is an ideal retreat from the heat of Tanzania. It’s a lovely, old hotel but modernised throughout. Nothing
- Al (1/5): Bad - Nothing in general is pleasing at this property. Management, calmness, bathroom. warm welcoming. It was a very disappointing experience and stay. luck of proper water drainage in the bathroom. bed smelling towels, loud speakers noises from the village near the hotel till early morning. no means of communication from room to the reception or management. In short the facilities are of local standard no International standard.
- Anthony (10/5): We liked it so much we extended our stay - Originally a German farmhouse, Lushoto's The Lawns Hotel was converted by the British and registered in 1946. The Nikitas family now preserve its colonial charm and history. This place indeed has bags of charm and feels very comfortable. Our family room was spacious, had a balcony with a garden view. The gardens like the hotel are well maintained The room was clean and oozed character. There is no air conditioning but there is a fan, air conditioning is not needed as it goes cooler at night because of the altitude. There is a well stocked bar and plenty of comfortable seats inside or outside to enjoy a drink. The evening meals, although off a fixed menu were varied and delicious. The swimming pool was clean but a little chilly owing to the height above sea level. The hotel is a fifteen minute walk from the town. The staff were charming and very helpful. The very friendly receptionist ordered our bus tickets and arranged our transport to the bus station. All in all a very pleasant three nights. We liked it all. In fact, so much that we extended our stay.

- Madeleine (10/5): Great spot, good spirit and comfortable! - beautiful location with pool and a nice terrasse viewing the value and the mountains. There is a pool with comfortable sun loungers. We were also lucky of heaving a camp fire in the evening and someone playing the guitar. Also, i like the dinner with three different choices. And of course the garden is amazing, we managed to see two of this green chameleons just next to the restaurant. cant tell.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Again a pleasure to stay in this perfect hotel
- Christopher (9/5): Lovely place as always but the lunch disappointed - Lovely property. The main building is old but well preserved and beautiful. The fireplace lounge is the highlight for me. The a la carte lunch (burger and chips) was very disappointing. The meat patty was small, bun was oversized and it arrived cold. In past years the food was good however.
- Kelly (10/5): - Loved our stay at the Lawns Hotel! Situated walkable to all you need in Lushoto and close by all the trails we wanted to trek up! The pool area is adorable and we truly felt like we were part of the jungle. Would recommend! They also have a refillablle water bottle station (with clean water!) which is sooo much better than the constant water bottles you have to throw away!
- Seungho (10/5): Exceptional -
- Franziska (9/5): Superb - Nice place in Lushoto, great base for the town and for hiking in the region. Good value for money.
- Mary (8/5): Good experience . - The location is great, with beautiful garden. No hot water on the last two days while we were there room D3.
- Mariette (8/5): Very good - Beautiful garden, room and communal spaces with fire place.
We did a walking tour with Shamba Eco Tours (linked to the hotel), which was very good.
Many chameleons in garden and surroundings Close to a mosque, so we woke up at 5 am.
Bit expensive for what you get.
- Guro (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (7/5): Good - Comfortable bed and good shower. Lovely pool area (though, the pool and weather was too chilly for swimming during our stay). A faded relic of colonial times. Rooms are past their peak and in need of some refreshing. Staff were ok. Overall our stay was fine but not excellent in any way.
- Yahyaa (8/5): Nice - Nice
- Vivian (8/5): Very good -
- Valerie (10/5): Exceptional - They prepared grilled vegetables for breakfast for me, because I eat vegan. Really nice!
- Christopher (8/5): A good, comfortable stopping point in lushoto - Nice location, nice pool Breakfast was minimal but ok
- Lena (9/5): Wonderful stay - Beautiful area, very clean, lovely garden, spacious rooms, great location as a starting point for hiking...
- Palkhu (10/5): Exceptional - the location
- Mitch (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful setting, exceptional quality meals, very friendly and attentive staff.
- Sarah (7/5): Great cozy, fun family stay in Lushoto. Accessible from the highway and lots to do as well as hikes - Th hotel has been continuously improving over the years. There is lots for kids to do - pool, games room, playground as well as the hikes. The hotel has a tour guide available and we went on two lovely hikes. Rooms are extremely comfortable. Food s tasty and the staff are lovely. The hotel is wonderfully cozy. The spa is quite new and could improve the quality of the massage.
- Hattie (10/5): A great place to relax and unwind in a beautiful setting. - Lawns hotel is the perfect place to unwind and relax before and after a hike. The staff are very helpful and the food is delicious. The food took a long time to come on two or three occasions of ordering.
- Seungho (10/5): Exceptional -
- Raheel (3/5): Most Pathetic stay in lushoto - Nothing, it was our worst trip to lushoto The lack of interest in the service staff and their body language was like dont ask for anything. Whatever is available is a favour they are giving to us.
The breakfast was pathetic. Even the most common thing like tea was not available.
The room needed to paint the roofs was all soggy with water
- Fredy (10/5): Exceptional - Great spot, really nice weather and everything is really clean. Staffs are really friendly. Would only advise on their menu should add more of African Cuisines. Otherwise everything is Dope
- Harry (9/5): Good comfortable choice in quiet locationo with old world colonial feelwith - A lovely small hotel with a colonial feel
The rooms are in bomas in lovely hotel gardens.
Well situated in a quiet area and able to walk into centre of town in 15 minutes.
The restaurant and bar are good and comfortable with good Wi-Fi in the main building and pool.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
We had our own vehicle which made trips easy to the surrounding countryside but well worth taking a local guide. Trips can be organised by the hotel if needed
- Noamg (9/5): Superb - We had the opportunity to stay at the Lawns Hotel for two separate nights on September 23, 2023, and September 26, 2023. The ambiance of the place was just as tranquil as we initially expected, and its proximity to the center of Lushoto (just a few minutes' drive) struck a perfect balance between convenience and a sense of isolation.
The hotel itself offers cozy amenities that contributed to a comfortable and pleasant stay. However, beyond the positive aspects of the accommodations, we would like to highlight the exceptional hospitality extended to us by the owner, Alex. His warm welcome and attentive service were noteworthy.
During our stay, we encountered a situation where our taxi driver failed to show up to take us to the bus station at 5:30 in the morning. In this challenging moment, Alex went above and beyond to ensure our well-being. He personally took care of us and arranged an alternative transportation method to ensure we reached the bus station safely and on time. This level of commitment and hospitality from Alex was truly appreciated and left a lasting impression.
In reflecting on our experience at the Lawns Hotel, we are genuinely grateful for Alex's kindness and the exceptional service he provided during a challenging situation. It is instances like these that define the true character of a place and its owner. We sincerely appreciate the hospitality extended to us by Alex and the Lawns Hotel.
- Coline (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antoine (7/5): Good - -The atmosphere of the hotel, the pleasant garden and very cosy common rooms of the hotel (living room with wood fire in evening time, restaurant room and bar)
- Friendly and careful staff
- Food quality with various options for dinners, tasty soups everyday and generous portions of meals, excellent breakfast with local jams or homedame muesli.
- Wide bed and bathroom - The room we booked was very humid, surely weather has been very rainy the past weeks but we can feel humidity everywhere from the bedsheets to the rooms walls.
- Carla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeroen (8/5): Very good -
- Christina (9/5): nice lodge for a really good price in the usambara mountains - really cute stay nearby the Centre and the bus stop
good local kitchen the pool looked a bit dirty, so we didn’t swim
- Harry (9/5): A lovely relaxing place to stay for a few days - This is a lovely relaxing old style colonial type hotel with simple but lovely accommodations in separate rooms set in a green garden. There were frequent power cuts but only for short periods.
A small amount of noise from the road and local church but not intrusive
Staff very friendly and helpful. The pool is a great place to chill out. The Wi-Fi works well most of the time. Good basic food.
It makes a great base for short walks around and longer trips into the surrounding county side.
- Catherine (7/5): Adequate for our needs - Location was good for us and the room was OK but very dated, clearly and old hotel room It would be good to have wifi in the rooms, not only in the bar area. The meal service was a bit slow but all right in the end.
- Rajenderpal (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location with walking distance into town yet secluded. Great pool and great staff. N/a
- Marjolein (8/5): Very good - Amazing place, slightly outside of the village centre. Lovely garden with a fairly new swimming pool. Options for diner (good food) and hikes (guided) available upon arrival. Highly recommended Shower was only hot for a very short period of time, but sufficient for a quick shower
- Kuahbt (10/5): Exceptional - Clean room with hot shower. Wifi works only for the bar. Noisy in the room at 6am. Power tripped at around 5am.
- Judit (8/5): Great stay - The hotel was very good, good service, really really nice breakfast with a lot of fruit, and the rooms were cozy. Bed and pillows were confortable! It's better if you can choose a room that is far away from the main road, it will be more quiet
- Michal (8/5): Very good -
- Thurit (9/5): Superb -
- Rashid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ayelet (7/5): Good - Nicest place in Lushoto. Felt like a lodge, with fires burning every night. Every day there was a new menu for dinner that day including a vegetarian option. Service was great, we loved Hatibu and Suzi. Close to town but yet secluded in the beautiful local forests. Because of the proximity to town there was constant loud noise from the mosques and churches which got annoying.
- Mama (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (9/5): A great starting point to explore Usambara - We had a lovely stay at Lawns after a busy few days travelling and simply relaxed. The staff are great, the friendly barman made us some nice cocktails and lit a fire for us in the evening. The food was good and through Shamba Eco tours (on the property) we organised a short hike to the Kisasa waterfalls which was beautiful.
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Ceri (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (4/5): Disappointing -
- Megan (9/5): As always - a cool, cosy, green hilly sanctuary - Fabulous hosts - as always.
We had to leave a night early due to a family illness back in Dar es Salaam - the host could not have been more kind.
We've stayed many times - and will keep coming back!
- Katariina (9/5): Family friendly location - Beautiful environment with great services (restaurant, wifi, spa). We did take our 3 year old on the playground, but it was pretty simple, it would need to be updated.
- Samira (9/5): Great stay- definitely recommend - Lovely place filled with character. The children loved the pool, table football and darts! Food nice and all the staff were so lovely and hospitable. Slight damp feel in the room- possibly just the time of year
