Guest Reviews
- Darren (8/5): - Really nice well run pub with rooms. Eccleshall is a lovely little town in beautiful countryside.
The buiding is very traditional so rooms are on the smaller side and our room got a bit stuffy. Everywhere is super clean snd the communal space for tea and coffee is really nice.
- Christopher (10/5): - Great food, nice beer and great service. Really nice village location too
- Nicole (10/5): - Fantastic place to stay! Highly recommend!
- Georgia (10/5): Wonderful - It was lovely. So friendly. The food is amazing too and the staff are all lovely!
The breakfast is to die for.
- John (10/5): Weekend Break - Lovely old pub with character. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
- Rachel (8/5): Great Stay But Amazing Food - Lovely stay but made amazing by the Chefs. If you have the opportunity to visit be sure to have one of their specialty burgers - Salt & Pepper Chicken Burger or the Lamb Feta Burger. Both amazing and on my top 10 of best evers.
- Sally (4/5): Not great! - Very dated small room. Alot of noise from pub below. No spare toilet roll & tissue box, practically empty š¢. Mattress uncomfortable, you could feel springs. Help yourself b/fast was not expected! Cafitiere plungerwas in pieces, managed to put back together. Dirty, cleaned it. Milk curlded in coffee. Small portable fridge used for it. Odd set up with one sitting room type entry leading to all rooms. Thermostat for heating in there too, manually operated. Not my idea of comfort. Reviews state very good+. Do not agree with this. Pub is very old. Could do we with modernisation. Didn't sleep well at all. Took photos of issues.
- Stefan (10/5): - Wonderful! Lovely staff, great food, good selection of beers and wines. Rooms small (as would be expected from an old inn) but clean and comfortable. Nice mix of locals and visitors. Definitely recommend. Thanks so much!
- Kim (10/5): - Lovely hotel, fab staff, excellent choices on the menu for dinner, breakfast was lovely and even got to meet the owners dogs in the morning ā¤ļø would stay here again.
- Deborah (10/5): - The king arms is a lovely old pub the room was very
comfortable and clean we had a good cooked breakfast the owners and the people work there was very nice
Location was brilliant free car park We will go again
- A (10/5): A Quint Place To Stay - A very quaint pub/Hotel to stay. The bedrooms are separate to the pub area so no noise. Common lounge with settee and biscuits/tea/coffee/hot chocolate all available 24 hours. Excellent full English breakfast. Staff efficient and friendly.
- Edward (8/5): Great overnight stay - Very comfortable bed and the breakfast was excellent. A lovely old building and the staff were very helpful.
- James (10/5): - Excellent in all respects. Huge breakfast, beautifully cooked, but too much for an old fella like me. Friendly staff and a pleasant, cosy bar.
- Rodney (8/5): - Room & facilities fine but there was a problem with the heating on the first day. Rather steep stairs up to bedroom.
- Valerie (2/5): - Bedroom was not good, no windows , nowhere to put clothes. Hairdryer suppied but no where near mirror to plug it in. Blind in bathroom broken, bathroom door would not shut. No heating. Coffee and tea making facilities where down end of corridor not in room. Overall absolutely crap.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely people, perfect room, easy parking, lovely place.
- Stephen (8/5): Nice place let down by some staff - Lovely location and building, comfortable bed, great breakfast. Main staff very good, young team behind the bar more concerned about having a laugh and it took us 30 minutes to check in.
- John (8/5): - Third visit as hotel is convenient for motorway.
Staff as ever very welcoming.
Lack of milk and instant hot chocolate was a bit of a shame, the former rectified for coffee next morning.
No butter for toast at breakfast as well.
Minor issues that can be easily fixed.
- richard (10/5): - Verry happy with my stay at the Kings Arms, everything was very clean and confortable and great breakfast.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definately stay here again.
Thanks
- Norman (10/5): Great Hotel - A really nice village hotel/pub. Great staff, fab breakfast and comfy rooms
- Anne (10/5): - Great location. Fantastic breakfast
- John (10/5): Overnight stop Manchester to London - Our second stay as we had enjoyed our previous visit.
We had a larger room this time and despite being in the front with the road outside it was very quiet.
Enjoyable evening meal and great breakfast with sociable staff and owner.
- Hugh (8/5): - This is a traditional pub. No frills. Attentive staff good rooms and facilities. Food was OK but portions too big. Breakfast was good. Reviews overstate its wonderfulness.
- Joakim (10/5): Relaxing stay - Amazingly friend staff, in a beautiful little village. Staff happy to help and lovely breakfast. Can only recommend a stay.
- Paul (10/5): Positive Experience - Pleasant stay. Helpful staff. Clean room.
- Adrian (10/5): - Lovley room in a fabulous village pub!!! Clean, comfortable good value for money which included breakfast
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The food was very, very good.
- Kevan (10/5): - lovely stay with friendly staff would recommend
- DAVID (8/5): Decent stay on business - Stayed for one night whilst on business round the corner. Friendly staff, nice food and a clean if small room. Room 3 has no window to the outside world though - in case that sort of thing bothers you.
- Daren (10/5): - Food both evening & breakfast was lovely
- Verified traveler (8/5): Overnight stop - Stopped here in drive home from Scotland. Just 10 mins off motorway. Clean, comfortable, even had hot chocolate & rooibos tea frrely available for guests!
- Andy (10/5): - Very comfortable and quiet room. Nice breakfast too. Staff very helpful.
Plenty of off street parking.
- Keith (10/5): - I have stayed hear a number of times and without fail all have been fantastic. The staff are wonderful and the food is superb and very generous portions. The breakfast is worth mentioning as it is lovely.
Eccalshall is a lovely place not very big but very well served with pubs, restaurants, and bespoke independent shops.
- Elaine (10/5): To be recommended - A warm welcome. Comfortable clean room. Great value food and good location.
- michael (10/5): Breakaway - First visit everyone very helpful and friendly. Room very comfortable and clean.Would stay there again if in area.
- Kulvinder (6/5): - Food was great, breakfast unbeatable, staff in the morning and at the bar great too.
Rooms need updating, othwrwise stay functional as accommodation goes.
- Andrew (10/5): - Nice stay
- Tracey (10/5): - A beautiful building with a super comfy bedroom. Absolutely spotlessly clean everywhere and warm friendly staff definitely a place to return too.
- John (10/5): Great stopover on way to London - Really enjoyed our stay though we didn't have time to explore Eccleshall.
Decided to eat at the hotel rather than venture out and we were glad we did. Really good food and excellent atmosphere (we were even offered birthday cake by the party that was being held there).
No coffee etc in room, but rather there was an extensive selection in a lounge area.
All staff very friendly.
Yes we had to register our car to use the car park, but we were prompted to provide our registration when we checked in, and it was entered into the system for us.
- James (8/5): - This is Olde style English Hotel & retains the Olde world charm. We enjoyed our stay as it was an overnight stay on our south to Stratford upon Avon, Eastbourne & London. The owners were very friendly & make you feel welcome.
A part of going there was I lived in Eccleshall 54 years ago & visited the place/ home we used to live in.
Even more bizarre when we were walking near the Church we met Roger Wood the past Vicar who was the son of Gaffer FW Wood my old Headmaster this is fate
- Alice (8/5): - Charming old place. Staff were friendly, really nice. Room was hot and they got us a small fan which honestly didnāt help much but it was during a freak heat wave. Enjoyed the pub area, locals were super pleasant.
- David (10/5): - The pub is a listed building with loads of character. The bedroom although small was very comfortable and the bathroom en suite looked new and was excellent.
Breakfast was cooked to order and was very good.
A reasonably priced good place to stay.
- William (10/5): Excellent stay - Lovely hotel full of character, very comfortable, rooms arenāt the biggest but very comfortable, excellent food
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was excellent. Would definitely stay again, and highly recommend the Kings Arms Great value for money.
- Louise (10/5): Wouldnāt hesitate to go back - Loved our little mini break at The Kings Arms, such a comfortable place to stay and nothing was too much trouble. I was worried it would be loud at night being a pub, but we never heard a thing.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great stop over with excellent food - We stayed for one night on our way to a family event. We phoned in advance to say we would not be arriving till mid evening , and were offered a table booking for dinner to fit with our planned arrival. When we arrived the bar was very busy but we were soon booked in and shown to our room.
We had a very good meal. ( and an excellent cooked to order breakfast the following morning too. We certainly were not in need of our family lunch later that day!)
The room was clean, well equipped but "compact" There was enough room for our overnight bags but it would be limited for anything larger. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well.
The only downside was that wi-fi was non existent on our arrival evening though was working the following morning - when there were only a few users.
We would be happy to stay again for a similar overnight stop.
- Jeanie (10/5): - Lovely placefor an overnight stay. We will be back.
- Richard (10/5): - Excellent breakfast, room was clean and quiet. Good value
- Robert (10/5): - Dating from 1502 a very vibrant pub with good wholesome food conveniently located in a lovely town with a village feel. Not a venue for guests expecting 21 century luxury, would suit down to earth guests wanting to meet the locals.
- Val (10/5): Fabulous place to stay - Lovely hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Good food. Highly recommended.
- michael (2/5): - We were visiting family who live in the area. The pub was very good for drinks. The room we were given was extremely hot when we arrived as the radiator was on full, we turned it off and left the door open for a few minutes to let the heat out. We couldn't open the window for some fresh air, so the room was very stuffy. The pillows are like bags of rock and uncomfortable. Our biggest problem was breakfast which was supposed to be included. At check-in we were asked what time we wanted breakfast, we selected 8am. At 7.50am we went down to the pub but was locked up. We returned at 8am it was still locked up and a lady was waiting for it to open, I assume she was an employee. We went back up to our room at 8.05am and packed our bags returning downstairs to the pub for breakfast at 8.15am. We gave up at 8.26am and drove away to find somewhere to eat breakfast. I received an email later in the morning asking if they could call me to explain, i replied by asking them to explain in an email, never heard anything back. We would never stay here again.
- Peter (10/5): 1 night stay 1 person for business - Food and service are excellent. Rooms are on the small side but comfortable and clean.
- Martin (8/5): - The staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was amazing. Food was fantastic, bed comfortable and we enjoyed our stay. The area has some nice shopping shops for browsing and a great choice of eateries.
- Mark (10/5): Lovely comfy bed and breakfast - Lovely warm welcome from all the staff we encountered. No fuss checking in to our comfy clean room with well appointed en-suite. Choice of breakfast in the morning ( had the full English) tea/coffee/toast etc. would definitely recommend.
- James (8/5): - Very old building with bags of character, good selection of food and ales. Would stay again if in the area
- Gayle (10/5): - A relaxed pub with lovely rooms and great food. The menu is really nice with a lot of choice. Really good coffee which they have spent time getting right. I will definitely stay here again if in the area as itās great value and I loved the food.
- Chris (6/5): Cracking Service but Claustrophobic Room! - Amazing service and lovely free breakfast
Unfortunately though, the room was very small and claustrophobic and in dire need of an update
Plus the shower and water took forever to warm up
So wonāt be returning which is a pity as Eccleshall is amazing
- Martyn (8/5): . - Very friendly welcome. Compact room but very comfortable. Had dinner on Saturday, almost too much but an enjoyable meal for the two of us.
- Sara (10/5): - Very friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Central hotel in small, pleasant town - Good food and breakfast, room was quite small. The tea and coffee is in a shared space.
- Mark (6/5): Good but overpriced - Clean, warm & comfortable. Good parking. Room 2 not quiet as hotel fridges/plant made buzzing noise most of night.
Breakfast was very average - and not all of it appeared to be cooked to order?
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quaint, has charm, nice little pub - This is a quaint pub with 4 rooms. The price you pay reflects the room which is decent.
It was nice enough. No wow fracture but not bad at all. It appears they have tried to modify the room with some soft furnishings. Tea and coffee is available facilities are good for this purpose. The staff are friendly. The breakfast is very good. The only downside for me was the room was freezing. So cold it put me off taking a shower.
No way of controlling temperature of the Room yourself. Asked staff to switch the radiators on. They said they would but it didnāt happen whilst we were there. Who can blame them with the price hike.
- Peter (10/5): - Very friendly staff, good food, Wifi fine.
- Ian (10/5): Recommended. - Room 1 was small but suitable for a solo traveller, and the space had been used creatively. Creaky floor, but all rooms on top floor so no early morning noise. Comfortable bed led to good night's sleep. Excellent freshly cooked English breakfast.
- Kevin (10/5): - A lovely friendly inn with a very nice covered outdoor area for eating and a very good and reasonable selection on the menu .
- David (8/5): - Great breakfast
- Iona (8/5): - Lovely old public house with great period features and lots of history. Food was plentiful and service was excellent with everyone being super friendly
- Matthew (10/5): Excellent - Great experience. Friendly and pleasant. Quiet room even though over a pub
- Sameha (10/5): Ten out of ten - Excellent service, facilities and staff
- Kezia (10/5): A real gem - We stayed here as a stop off on our holiday and it ended up being a real highlight of our trip. Super friendly and helpful staff, the rooms were excellent and the food was both delicious and generous in portion sizes. Would definitely go back and make a proper stay of it
- Heather (8/5): - Very friendly staff and an excellent breakfast
- paul (10/5): Great Stay - Had a lovely stay. The staff were very attentive and the food was excellent..especially the amazing breakfast. Felt guilty not finishing the plate due to the large portions.YAY. The room was a little small and secondary glazing prevented the window being opened. There was a fan in the ceiling so keeping cool wasnāt an issue and although small we had everything we needed. The pub was full of character and couldnāt fault itā¦best pub in Eccleshall!!!!!
Would definitely recommend a stay and look forward to a second visit.
- Kirsten (10/5): Thr Kings Arms Hotel, one not to be missed - We have travelled from NZ and needed a midway stop to rest and we were glad we chose this place. The staff were amazing on arrival, couldnt do enough for you, we ordered an evening meal and could not finish it as there was alot. The only thing I would have to note was breakfast, we were first to the breakfast room, yet last to be served, and I ordered a poached egg and was only haff cooked, apart from that no complaints ar all.
- Rupert (10/5): Great stop over with good food - Stayed 2 nights for business. Absolutely brilliant service friendly staff helpful explanation of everything was very good. Nice little area to sit to do work in seating area, coffee facilities etc. Room cleaned to perfection after first night. Thoroughly recommend
- John (10/5): - The welcome was warm, and throughout our 3-night stay we were impressed with the cheerfulness and helpfulness of all the staff. The bedrooms were quite small, in part dictated by the historic nature of the building, but they were very clean, and equipped with really comfortable beds and modern en suite shower rooms. Our rooms faced the main road, but were well sound-insulated and traffic noise was not a problem. Complimentary tea and coffee making facilities were provided in a pleasant separate room. The breakfast menu was good, from cereals (except porridge!) to full English. Altogether, our stay was a very happy experience, and it is a pleasure to recommend the Kings Arms Hotel.
- Eric (8/5): Nice place - Good Hotel, good staff and great food, good choice of real ale too, enjoyable stay, thank you
- Lesley (10/5): Lovely stay. - Hotel was exactly what you expect from a period property. Beams wooden floors and open fireplaces.
Staff were lovely, food was excellent and a lovely atmosphere.
Would definitely book this hotel again. The hotel also has ample parking and close to many pubs and restaurants. PS Breakfast was great š
- Anna (10/5): - Room was very clean, very comfortable bed. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the food available was delicious.
- David (10/5): - The Hotel is well situated for visiting Eccleshall and the surrounding area, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing we ate there in the evening for dinner and the breakfast was huge. All in all a great stay and we will probably be back at some point later in the year.
- Margaret (2/5): Terrible accommodation - Booked deluxe King bed room. Given double room with just enough room to walk around bed. Trickle of cold water from sink hot tap; shower did not work at all. Drinks were laid out in a communal room further down the corridor not in room. Cover on bed shed bits all over your clothes. Very depressing room. For the princely sun of £99.
We requested the room paid for but shown another double and the one king bed room - both had no windows - only windows in the bathroom - my claustrophobic nerve tingled! Plus having sinus problems clearly terrible rooms. Requested refund as we urgently sought another hotel (Holiday Inn £79 fast as tic accommodation) but told manager was in later.
We moved to Holiday Inn, incurring extra costs, and phone the Kings Arms. Staff answered. Conversation normal until I mentioned wanted refund for bad room. Staff then said oh I canāt hear you, Iāll get the manager Neil. He came on the line and I requested refund. Oh this is a bad line he says. I could hear him clearly however. Several calls later oh a bad line. Etc got nowhere
Tried getting a human being on Hotel.con - impossible.
Badly let down by Kings Arms and Hotel.com
This hotel was not of a standard to be charging £99 for no washing facilities
- Tim (10/5): - Lovely old place with good food. Kayleigh and Lucy were great fun.
