Guest Reviews
- houda (5/5): Correct - Emplacement Sale et rapport qualité prix élevé ,
Manque de personnel qualifié
- jean-benoit (8/5): -
- JULIO CESAR (9/5): -
- angela (10/5): Excellent - Perfect hotel and staff were amazing Nothing it’s super
- Jessica (7/5): Great location - for the price could be a better guest experience - Location was good - short walk to town
Rooms spacious for families
Small and boutique
Access to own beach with beds
Having a pool a nice bonus Pool could do with daily cleaning - lots of iguana poo and leaves / sand and green algae formed during our stay so last day I didn’t let my child in the small kids pool
Beach restaurant such a wasted opportunity- no vibe yet prime location for sunset
Cocktails were very hit and miss
Overly expensive for food so no one eats here
We didn’t have breakfast - I recommend you don’t either and eat in town as so many great options
Next door there is a huge building site development happening, we were lucky as our final day on check out they really got going with the heavy machinery and it was noise all day into the evening - no warning of this either from hotel which I think is poorly communicated to guests
Also lots of maintenance happening such as painting and fixing broken things but this should be done out of season ideally overnight
- Ania (7/5): More staff and small touches would make the experience so much better! - Good:
- the beach beds & set up
- the location to town
- quiet beach location
- the room & cleaning services
- free mosquito repellent (when staff remembered to refill the dispenser) Not so great:
- understaffed at beach club, super slow service
- husband tried to order beer at the bar (for speed) and the staff seemed so confused, was a whole process for the bar man to simply hand him the beer
- more attention given to the day trippers who come to the beach club for lunch (my food took almost an hour because of this)
- small portions and basic food, nothing memorable, expensive
- no atmosphere in the beach club at sunset, and such a good opportunity for it
- Judi (9/5): -
- Jane (8/5): Lovely location and Beach Club, shame about customer service - The location was great with the Beach Club set on the beach with comfortable loungers and waiter service. Massages were also available. The restaurant overlooked the sea. Had a lovely evening meal but ceiling fans would have made the air less humid and uncomfortable. My main issue was the misleading description of the room Junior Suite with Ocean View. Described as a quadruple room, seating area and ocean view. The picture shows the seating area with one double bed and a stairwell. The assumption would therefore be that the second bed was above and for very light sleepers this was the reason of this choice. However there was no seating area, instead there were two double beds placed next to each other and not what we were wanting at all. We were then told that the seating area was the balcony.. sorry but no! At the top of the stairs were two loungers in a basic area with no features or lighting. There was no effort by staff to rectify the matter, I asked if we could have two separate rooms and was advised that I would have to cancel my booking online (and incur 100% cancellation charge and rebook the rooms or just book an additional room on line) otherwise it would be a Managerial matter yet the Manager never tried to contact us to assist us. The view should also be described as side ocean view but at least the picture is accurate. The next issue was the mediocre breakfast with just a choice of omelette, scrambled or fried eggs every day served with spicy sausages, hash browns and grilled tomatoes. There was no option of fresh fruit, yogurt or granola, although it seemed to be consumed by Managers having a breakfast meeting but not offered to guests. This was not a 5* breakfast.
- Richard (8/5): -
- Jonathan (7/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): Holbox what an island - Small boutique hotel in good location with friendly and helpful staff Balcony on superior room very overlooked and not private
- Fabiana (9/5): - Espectacular playa y hotel
- Bernd (10/5): Relax 😉 - Sehr freundliches Hotelpersonal, schönes Hotel direkt am Meer
- Roberto (8/5): -
- Oscar (8/5): - ROOM FOOD and Beach service
- Sandra (6/5): Doesn’t deserve this price tag - low value for money - Comfortable bed
Cleaning staff very friendly The pictures oversell the property in terms of
- location (it is not directly on the beach, only the hotel restaurant is, left to the hotel is a building site, view on the right is to an abandoned building site)
- being well kept (it feels a bit run down and not well kept in shape) - no ‘love’ or warmth
- cleanliness (the bathrooms have mold , the surfaces are okay cleaned but it could all benefit from a deep clean, balcony has stain on the floor, pillow cases too)
Another disappointment was the check in. We booked a suite with a king bed and sofa and got two queen beds. in booking.com these are two categories and when we asked for the appropriate room we were told that they are full, maybe we can move the next day. We checked in at 3:30pm and saw other arrival cards waiting for other check ins. We insisted and after one hour waiting time, we got our room . Very frustrating process- we asked to speak to the manager and I would have expected that they would revert to us during our 5 day stay - but they didn’t.
Overall for this price tag $350 a night you’d except a certain standard
- Sebastiano (5/5): - camere punto mare peggiore di holbox evitare proprio
- Rudey (10/5): Amazing, relaxing getaway - The rooms were amazing, very spacious with large beds, a large shower and his-and-hers sinks. The beach area was beautiful with very chilled vibes Nothing
- Kimberley (8/5): -
- Luke (10/5): -
- joshua (10/5): - The staff was amazing and the location was probably one of the best on the island
- Juan (10/5): -
- Chris (7/5): Considering that the hotel was quiet we thought it should have been better maintained. - Beds, breakfast, pool Some of the furniture was either broken or poorly assembled (bedside table, under-bed drawer). The room floor was not swept for sand daily. We had to ask for housekeeping on 2 days.
- Noam (1/5): 450 usd stolen from safety deposit box - Location, access to the beach, breakfast. We had 450 USD and 600 mexican peso STOLEN from the safety deposit box in our room, after the cleaning staff was in the room.
We reached out to the general manager who ttied to help and was kind, but his inspection didn't find anything.
We were left alone in the situtation without any solution or explenation, and didn't feel safe in the hotel after the incident.
- TATIANA (8/5): - The staff were very polite and helpful. However, the waiting time in the restaurant was extremely long. It could take 30-40 minutes just to get your food on the table. The property is very clean and well kept. The beach is very nice-no sargassum, and the ocean part is nice. It was neither too shallow nor too deep. Just perfect for adults and kids. I would suggest to improve menu choices. The breakfast was very modest, not much variety-almost no fruits, and 2 tiny slices of bacon with omelet. They had pizza in the menu but as it turned out they could not make pizza for some safety reason. So why to have it in the menu?! The food in the restaurant lacked flavor. We ended up only having breakfast in the restaurant, and had lunch and supper
elsewhere for the last few days. The hotel has serious communication issues. They do not respond to your emails and phone calls. We booked our trip on Expedia and received a formal letter saying in case we have special event or preferences, we may contact the hotel. We had anniversary plans. We contacted the hotel twice through Expedia channel, and probably 3 times sent direct emails to the hotel. No response. When you call them, no one picks up the phone.
I gave it 4 stars only because the staff (servers and reception) were very nice, and the hotel and beach were very clean. But it could be really rated as 3-3.5 stars just for the quality of food and wait time for food, also no reply to your emails or phone calls.
- Daniel (10/5): - Muy limpio y agradable personas
- matteo (8/5): -
- Maria Jose (8/5): -
- Zlatko (9/5): Bilo je lijepo - 7 Osjudan doručak sacdugim čekanjem
- Rogier007 (10/5): Perfect hotel, with own beach club - Excellent small boutique-ish hotel which is either really new, or very well maintained.
One reaches Holbox from the toll road Cancun/Merida and then for the most part a 35 miles stretch of a non toll, yet good road to the little harbor town of Chiquila. In Chiquila you leave your car at one of the many parking places close to the ferry and you board one of these ferries which depart every 30 min. While the road to Chiquila was really good and easy, the last mile is one to pay good attention and slow down due to pot holes and for the last 150 yards you need to add a small silent prayer that the puddles are not way deeper then they look (car in front of us got pretty dented).
HOWEVER once you get to Holbox you are in a different world; relaxed, beautiful sandy beach and perfect laid back vibe
At the Mystique Holbox we had a bright very spacious room with an enormous balcony with direct sea view. Nice little pool (does not need to be big for this size hotel) and direct beach access with plenty of loungers, a good bar (shout out to Hector !) and towel service.
Food choices for lunch is good, for breakfast could be better. For dinner we ate at other places, as the island has many restaurant options which can all be easily reached on foot (sandy roads :) )
Hotel offers room keys through a little bracelet around your wrist, so you never forget your key, as well as you can easily give your kid(s) a key as well without fear of them loosing they key either; nice touch.
Would certainly come back at this hotel, but I do hope Holbox as a whole can maintain its laid back charm (and I also hope that access road in harbor Chiquila will be improved).
- 294laketab (8/5): - This Resort was beautiful, peaceful and the workers made us feel like family. The Resort is a great location, it is walking distance to the center of the island. The beach restaurant has good drinks and food. Request to have Hector as your waiter he is amazing!!
- Ana (10/5): - Everyone is EXTREMELY nice. The hotel and amenities are super clean and beautiful.
- B2705GGjoet (2/5): Stay away! Major Construction!! - Our stay was extremely underwhelming. Service was subpar, guest beds were dirty, pool is very small and major construction next door.
Upon departure I was offered a free stay by the GM but when writing to Marriott the GM denied this offer. Very disappointing.
Much better options on this beautiful island.
- Bruno (6/5): - We needed a gateway and chose Holbox that was highly recommended by Mexican friends,
The property was nice overall but here are the reasons why they did not get a 5*:
- The flow from the shower head was irregular and scarce.
- The smell from the decomposed seaweed on the shore reached our room and was very unpleasant.
- Because of that decomposed seaweed, we could not enjoy the sea.
- The amount of mosquitoes prevented us from enjoying walks in the morning and after sunset.
- We had lunch at the pool and were immediately surrounded by iguanas getting dangerously close to us. The staff knew but did little to scare them away.
- nadavo796 (10/5): Great vacation in Holobx - We spent 3 fantastic days in the Mystique Holobx. The hotel is located right by isolated beach cleaned from algae. The room was quite big with immediate access to the beach. Hotel facilities are well maintained and the staff is extremely friendly and cooperative.
- Leigh (6/5): Not a 4 or 5 star resort, though staff is attentive and professional for the most part. - Masseuse Gabriela was exceptional! Room had adequate A/C Right next to a construction site that was incredibly loud during the day. Ocean view room was partial. Cleanliness not great- the bed sheets, shams and luggage runner had stains, and the loft terrace was dirty- dust and bird or insect droppings.
I had to flag down the housekeeping after they did my room to refill the liquid bath soap and call the front desk at night for bath tissue…
- Nabil (10/5): - The room was clean and beautiful. Great location, not far from dinning and shopping. Staff was very friendly. Food was great and the beach was wonderful. Traveled as a family with two little ones and they loved it.
- 760lawrenced (8/5): Nice stay - but somewhat underwhelming - We enjoyed our stay at the Mystique Holbox - but given price, we expected something a bit more. The room was fine. The service was fine. Everything was fine - but "just" fine. Best part was the restaurant - best lunch we had on the island. Easy walk from the heart of the town - close to bars and restaurants. Wanted to like this place more - but just nothing stuck out as special.
- Navigator51720774097 (2/5): Beautiful Island, Disappointing Hotel - We arrived at Mystique Holbox yesterday and were extremely disappointed with our room. We had booked the Junior Deluxe Suite, which was advertised as having a large double bed and a balcony with a view. Instead, we were given a room with two small twin beds and a balcony that faces a wall, blocking all sunlight and offering no view whatsoever.
I raised this issue with the staff, but they said there was nothing they could do and didn’t offer any kind of apology, compensation, or solution. To make matters worse, I had prepaid a 10% tip—something I now completely regret.
We traveled across the world for what we hoped would be a 5-star romantic getaway in paradise—but instead, we’re sleeping in separate beds and staring at a wall. It’s honestly unacceptable and feels like a scam.
Holbox itself is absolutely beautiful and well worth visiting, but take my advice: book your stay somewhere else.
- Mark (10/5): - Great
- Ana (8/5): A nice stay, clean and comfortable rooms, nice beach areas. Very attentive staff. Walk to the town. - Nice property, clean and functional. Good aircon. The beach area is nice. Walking distance to the heart of town with its fun bars, restaurants and shops. On a decent stretch of beach, with a beautiful sunset, although some seaweed present. Staff are friendly.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Beautiful property
- Dorothee (5/5): Passable - To be asked to pay a tip on arrival before any service
- Adam (10/5): Close to town and a great property - The staff is wonderful, the location is perfect, and the beach area is one of the best views around
- Nicole (8/5): Very good -
- Rafal (4/5): - Great hotel besides their dining. Terrible.
- ileened2025 (10/5): Restaurant Customer service - The restaurant was so good. It had really good portions hector gave amazing service. He was kind and gave good suggestions. Amazing! Would go again! the food was really good and the environment was so welcoming weather was amazing same for the drinks!
- Peter (9/5): Great -
- Trail439831 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - First of all the property is in bad shape and needs a lot of work. The walls are thin and you can hear everything. The bathrooms needed an update as well.
The bedding was awful. Thin sheets and very old.
The restaurant is very small and very much lacking in service. No electricity the first morning. The ran out of food and drinks. They ran out of mimosas and in the evening maybe had 1-2 bottles of wine for the whole restaurant.
We had an absolutely terrible experience at this property. Upon check in me and my husband were put in a room between to families with small children. They ran back and forth slamming doors at 6am and it lasted for hours.
We asked to be moved multiple times and were told that had too many check ins and could not move us. So 4 nights with small children yelling and slamming doors.
My son had an accident while we were there and we had to check out one day early to fly to America for emergency surgery. We were told upon check out that I should call Marriott to get my points back for the 2 rooms for 1 night.
I spent 5 weeks trying to do this and they refused. Marriott said they understood the early check out and we should definitely be receiving our points back. Marriott Bonvoy did all they could to help me with emails and calls. I finally emailed the GM and he said it wasn’t possible because they weren’t familiar with the process.
I then emailed the franchisee and was told it wasn’t possible due to the number of nights. I have not ever had an experience like this with a Marriott. I am a Titanium Bonvoy member and felt like that didn’t not matter at all.
The medical care on the island is extremely limited. One Doctor who could stitch my son’s face and give an antibiotic. Although he was very kind we needed to be in America as quickly as possible.
Even if the accident hadn’t happened I would not recommend this property. The beach area is not as nice as others on the island. We stayed the year before at a property closer to town and really enjoyed it. The service was impeccable. I would look elsewhere.
This does not live up to Marriott standards and quite honestly was in very bad shape property wise and service wise.
- Margaret (10/5): Absolutely brilliant - Everything we found exceptional all the staff friendly and helpful especially Alberto the General Manager Jessica Reception Manager nothing
- V486OTkristineh (4/5): Not as nice as pictures look. Needs cleaning and upkeep. - To start off good the location is nice easy to walk to town from the beach. The roads do flood when it rains.
We did get upgraded to a beach front which is actually across the street from the beach and not really an amazing view since the restaurant is what you are facing. The road in between made it a bit noisy in the room since UTV’s aren’t the quietest.
Unfortunately there was more bad than good for me in the stay.
At check in they ask if you want to add Service tip ahead. I don’t suggest it. The service was not great with very rude servers and no trained bartending. I’d recommend tipping as you go.
Property and rooms- Not clean throughout with cobwebs in decor and mold in mini fridges. You can tell the rooms need maintenance and cleaning. The bathroom door needed adjusting it was scraping the ground. The bath towels were given to you moist. The towels at beach were stained badly. Bedroom pillows are very dirty. The bed sheets didn’t fit the bed.
Restaurant- At breakfast there wasn’t communication. They didn’t tell you what items they didn’t have and just brought you what they did have. It was very inconsistent. Bread was stale daily. Food was served cold.
The cocktails were also very inconsistent and not made correctly.
Front desk- Ahead of the stay it was hard to get responses. Once you get to the property they were nice and welcoming. We had an emotional support dog with us and had to put a deposit down for her which was fine. They didn’t allow you to leave the dog in the room alone but also didn’t communicate this ahead of the stay.
Beach- The beach area was kept clean. They didn’t really serve you at the beach chairs. You order at restaurant and they will bring to you but they don’t take order at beach chairs.
- ericzS1077WT (10/5): Best Meal in Holbox - If you’re going to Holbox do not pass up on eating here at least once. Cesar grilled an amazing dinner.
First night we had ribeye steak, shrimp, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. Second night was octopus, shrimp, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. I was very surprised how well the meals turned out, especially the ribeye. Coming from an area with excellent steak houses I didn’t think they would be comparable. They definitely were! The waiters Will and Fer are amazing too.
I will certainly return on my next trip.
- mimaki810 (10/5): Amazing stay - The hotel is amazing, and the stuff is wonderful. Alberto ensures that your entire experience during your stay is magical. I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are visiting Holbox and/or planning a special event on the island. Additionally, the rooms are clean, with fresh bedsheets and towels. With all of this, nobody wants to leave, and you truly feel at home.

- Sam (6/5): - Nice place but they don’t clean the beach properly.
- jenniferdT4144VL (10/5): Love holbox - Our stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful! The staff went above and beyond, consistently friendly and attentive, making us feel warmly welcomed throughout our visit.
The housekeeping team did an excellent job, ensuring our room was cleaned daily to the highest standard. We stayed in the presidential suite, which was incredibly spacious and offered a stunning view that we couldn’t get enough of.
The hotel’s location is prime—perfect for those who enjoy walking and exploring the nearby center. It made getting around so convenient. A small tip: bring some mosquito spray, and you’ll be set for a comfortable stay.
The morning breakfast was another highlight, offering a delicious and convenient start to each day. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait to return! Highly recommended.
- jolantau883 (10/5): Alberto Fuerte at mystique holbox - I had a wonderful experience at Mystique Holbox. Alberto the GM and his team took wonderful care for us. This is a classic resort with so much to do at the beach and in the city. We will be going back again to stay at the resort. Alberto is an amazing manager who treats customers with so much respect. I have made a friend named Alberto at the resort. Thank you Alberto and team. Keep up the great work.
- Henry (9/5): Chill island vibe - Nice welcomming staff! The facillities could have been better
For this price.
- Kailyn (8/5): - I enjoyed the location of this hotel, very walkable to downtown but just far enough to be quiet from the downtown parties. The only slight downfall for the hotel is kids noise level in the morning at the pool. Our room was very close to the pool and it sounded like they were in our room.
- Benedict (2/5): My stay was deeply disappointing, as the hotel failed to meet basic Marriott standards in cleanlines - I liked that the hotel had basic amenities like hot water, a flushing toilet, and a shower without odors, which were better than other places I stayed on the island. I also appreciated that two of my three nights were quiet, providing a break from noise disturbances. However, these positives felt minor compared to the many issues I experienced. I didn’t like the noise issues I experienced, especially on the second night when a neighboring guest blasted their TV at a high volume. It was frustrating that the hotel didn’t manage room assignments better, given the low occupancy. The cleanliness of my room was another major disappointment; the floors were dirty with dust and small debris, and the lack of slippers made it even worse. I found it unacceptable that a five-star property at this price point wouldn’t ensure cleaner rooms or provide basic amenities like slippers.
The restaurant also left much to be desired. My well-done burger was not cooked as requested, and the shrimp I ordered one night tasted stale and still had the shells on. When I raised concerns, the staff dismissed me without trying to fix the issue, which felt dismissive and unprofessional for a Marriott property.
Additionally, the $40 early check-in fee felt excessive, especially considering the lack of goodwill shown by the staff when I requested a waiver. Overall, the hotel didn’t meet Marriott’s usual standards of quality, consistency, and responsiveness, leaving me extremely disappointed.

- Lisa (2/5): - We did not stay at your hotel as it was a disaster. The entire city was underwater. I have pictures and I have asked Expedia to get our money back. Please refund our money as we did not stay at your hotel. The city was an unwalkable and totally underwater and your hotel was not ready for gas. The pool was not open. Chairs were Stacked up. Again we did not stay at your hotel and we are asking for a refund. I will be posting the pictures on Expedia if we do not get a refund.
- Alban (10/5): - We had an amazing stay at the hotel. They had a very kind attention when we arrived as it was my wife birthday: they put a big ribbon on the entry door of the room.
We loved the room, spacious and comfortable.
We enjoyed a lot the beach club and the pool. We recommend it a lot.
Thank you to Anahi for her kindness and the hotel personal
- Juan (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (8/5): It was an enjoyable stay with beautiful views, white sands & great food!! - The room was large & clean. The double sink was nice & the shower was roomy. The beach was set up perfect with plenty of lounge chairs. The light at night were very pretty. The server's at the restaurant were friendly & the food was delicious.
The room key as a bracelet was perfect! Check-in & check-out was easy. The noise from the road was overwhelming at night. It lasted all day & all night. I did not sleep well at all. If I knew ahead
of time, i would have brought ear plugs or picked a different room further away from the front.
The shower needs shelves or hooks inside.
- jonathan (10/5): - Beautiful area! Beaches are less crowded and the town is an easy walk
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -

- Felicia (10/5): This hotel is AMAZING!!! Highly recommend! - This hotel was AMAZING!!! Highly recommend! The staff go above and beyond to help you and are so polite. The room was amazing and super spacious. Location is great, super easy to get around if you have a golf buggy. Loved the pool and outside area as its right on the beach with a cute little bar with swing seats. The beach BBQ the hotel put on was SO GOOD! Some of the best steak and cray fish we've had! We would definitely stay here again :)
