Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room 4 - probably not the best choice - Positives: friendly and helpful staff, lovely breakfast and lots of food options available, fancy and huge shower in room, bed comfortable, free parking in pub car park, WiFi good.
Negatives: Furniture is old and battered and as it's an old building, the floor is very wonky, like a crooked house, so walking around is a bit like trying to find your sea legs and failing! A bit dusty and carpet needed a hoover. TV does not connect to streaming services. Biggest complaint is the noise from the bar, and I think this room is probably directly above it, so you have to have the TV up to megaphone volume to drown out music in the evening.
I have no idea what the other rooms are like, I did expect some noise but I guess it's a room above a pub, so..... a rather mixed experience. I would come to the pub for the food and might stay again but would choose the room next time.
- Judith Plummer (10/5): - Lovely little hotel- quiet and peaceful
- John (10/5): - Excellent staff
- Martin (10/5): - Third stay at The Angel. Comfortable, clean room and easy overnight parking adjacent. Excellent housekeeping. Very nice on-site Italian restaurant, ideal for dinner. The staff set this place apart. Friendly, relaxed and nothing is too much trouble. Even sent someone to buy Marmite for my breakfast toast when they ran out. Took 2 mins and a new pot arrived! Hope to visit again next year.
- David (10/5): Excellent hotel - Lovely hotel in a quaint village high street. Very clean and welcoming staff. Just a bit dated but not a problem. Best bed I’ve slept in! Wonderful breakfast next morning. Very good choice for breakfast.
- Duff (10/5): - A real gem, fantastic staff, the whole place is welcoming, friendly and clearly a community hub. The restaurant (Cleone's Italian) was a surprise bonus with great food and the Paradiso ice-cream sundae was absolutely supreme. An excellent base from which to explore Suffolk and a place you will look forward to returning to each day. Thank you to Cleo, Ross, Grace, Lily and all the staff for being wonderful hosts.
- mark (6/5): - i asked for a double i believe, and got a twin
- John (10/5): Great stay at the Angel - Three night stay, excellent meals, great beer and friendly staff. Also organised a wedding anniversary party and that was excellent too. We would definitely go there again.
- Ian (10/5): - Characterful building with excellent facilities and very welcoming, friendly staff. A great place to stay overnight for our short trip to the area to see a band nearby.
- robert (8/5): - All ok for what we wanted. Restaurant excellent.

- Mrs Susan (10/5): - Great stay in lovely old Hotel Excellent food
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I enjoyed a short stay visiting family in the area. The staff throughout the stay have been, without exception, friendly and really welcoming. The check in and check out process was straightforward. The room was beautifully clean and the bed was so comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and modern. We enjoyed lovely cooked breakfast and an impressive selection of mixed fruits and yoghurt. We also enjoyed fabulous high quality meals in the evening in the Italian themed restaurant. I would love to go back again some time.
- Martin (10/5): - 2nd visit to The Angel for a local event. Spacious clean, comfortable room. Great, friendly staff. Nice breakfast. Easy parking. Will hopefully return.
- oakley (8/5): Angel inn halesworth - Nice hotel. Clean. Staff friendly. Will stay again
- Gail (10/5): - Good location very quiet, very helpful landlady and staff.
- David (8/5): Older style hotel with a modern upgrade - Hotel is older style, with large room. I was particularly impressed with the modernisation of the ensuite and very modern techno shower. Good size enclosed walk in shower and decent water temperature.
I dined as a party of 8 in the bar area, food was very good and decent choice on the menu. Staff very helpful and made lockable arrangements for my cycle overnight.
I took advantage of the 6.30am breakfast start which was excellent and good choice on the menu.
No real downside experienced.
- Robert (10/5): - Great little hotel, lovely food and helpful staff.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Excellent - Very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent breakfast’s freshly prepared.
- John (8/5): Great for short break. - Very pleasant short break in a friendly hotel. Great food in the Italian restaurant, just a shame that it was fully booked on our second night. Priority for residents would have been good....Free on site parking was very welcome. Visits to nearby Southwold and Aldeburgh meant that there was plenty to see and do.
- Zanngess (10/5): - Exvellent affordable smart accommodation. Vey large and self contained room, ideal for business. Staff were all excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Worth a visit for the restaurant alone - Super find and staff were excellent throughout, from reception to restaurant. Comfortable room and great value, excellent food served in the restaurant. Would definitely stay again if ever in the area
- Katherine (10/5): - A clean comfortable hotel in a central location. Nice breakfast.
- Claire (10/5): By the sea - Lovely couple of days excellent service and food exceptional
- Rosie (10/5): - I don’t know that I have enough words to express my gratitude to the staff of this establishment. From technical support when I was having issues connecting to the internet, to sandwiches to stave my jet lag, to a marvelous family meal at Cleone’s. I felt like I was staying with family. Thank you for your kind and generous hospitality, it made the trip lovely.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great 2 day bteak - Excellent stay all round ... service, room, food. Will definitely return if ever that way again. Thank.you.
- L (10/5): Fabulous - When we arrived we were warmly welcomed, all of the staff couldn't do enough for us they we all so happy and cheerful. The food was amazing, the room was exceptionally clean and warm. We had a fabulous trip thank you to all the staff regards Lorraine With and sylvia hill xxx
- kenneth (10/5): - the staff are very helpful and friendly there is a choice of bars and places to eat we cant wait to go back again
- Phil (10/5): - Good priced accommodation. Rooms large. Service and quality of food excellent. A very friendly team
- Deborah (10/5): Weekend break - We really enjoyed our stay, The Angel is such a friendly hotel. We were told they are closing for a week at the end of the month, what they plan to do will make such a difference. We will definitely return another time!
- Iain (10/5): - Lovely place to stay and the food was great
- Timothy (8/5): - The Angel is a very old inn with a lot of character, but the facilities in the room were fine. The only defect was that the old windows rattled in the wind. One thing I really liked was the presence of blankets with which I could replace the duvet. Duvets are always too hot.
The restaurant was good without being outstanding; the staff were very helpful.
- david (10/5): - All good
- Martin (8/5): - Staff helpful and welcoming. Clean room. Decor of rooms a bit dated and tired, but reasonably maintained. Nice breakfast included, with good cooked options. Decent Italian restaurant in-house. Adjacent car park with plenty of space for guests. Quiet surrounding town area, with easy access to supermarket. One area for improvement was the ‘softness’ of the water supply, which left a ‘slimy’ feeling after showers. On the flip side, your soap will go a long way.
- Lesley (10/5): Fabulous old hotel at the centre of village life - I’m so pleased places like this still exist; lovely, old fashioned (in a good way!) inns doing what they’ve done for centuries - providing food, drink and accommodation for visitors and locals alike.
It’s a long time since I’ve been welcomed with such warmth and charm. The friendliness and efficiency of every single member of staff I encountered was so heartening.
If you want fancy pants, over wrought, modernised decor, you won’t find it here, but everything was clean, tidy and in good working order.
Bar snack and hone cooked breakfast was excellent. I would love to stay again
- Terence (8/5): - It is a lovely old building unfortunately i have great difficulty with stairs and steps we were the last room entailing not only the main stairs but at least another 4 steps along the corridor. Having informed the hotel of my difficulty i would have hoped they would have put us in a room nearer to the main stairs.
- WILLIAM (10/5): - Having stayed in hotels all over the world the Angel compared favorably with most.
With mobility problems and there being no taxi service in Haleworth the owner of the hotel transported us from the hotel to the railway station.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
- Mark Thulbourne (10/5): The Angel i little Gem - Stayed overnight along with a work mate, the rooms we had were great. I ended up in the double single room which was more than good enough, had a greats nights sleep, the double rooms was fantastic with a very nice bathroom. Both of us enjoyed our stay, the staff were fantastic and food and drink in the bar was second to none and a good price. Will be back 100% when working down here again, please don't miss out on this little gem if your staying in this area
- Trevor (10/5): A great place to stay - Very friendly and clean pub, the room was spotless and had all that we needed. Fantastic food
- Graham (10/5): The wonderful Angel hotel - The hotel was wonderful great staff and the Italian restaurant was great overall our stay was great
- Andrew (10/5): - I stay at the Angel when in the area . It ticks all the boxes for location, comfort, friendly staff, and the food is to a very high standard . I fully recommend it .
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best hotel in Suffolk - I had a wonderful stay at the Angel Hotel, Halesworth. I have stayed at few more hotels in and around Suffolk, but this was by far the best stay I had. They even prepared everything for a smooth check-in since I called them saying that I had to check in really late due to a late flight. The room was excellent, staff members were very polite and friendly, the food at the restaurant was delicious and bar had excellent choice of drinks. The restaurant manager Katie was a real angel. See you again next time.
- Melanie (10/5): Excellent hotel great location , amazing staff - From start to end , what a lovely friendly hotel , excellent service , lovely food , lovely rooms , cannot fault anything , can’t wait to go back in the future
- Christine (10/5): - I loved the age and exposed timbers. The staff were brilliant, helpful and friendly. I would certainly stay here again.
- Steven (10/5): - The staff made us very welcome during our stay
- Cathrona (10/5): - Excellent, unexpected good quality room and eating experience
- Janet (10/5): - Very helpful staff. Comfotable bed
- Ian (10/5): - CleAn and comfortable room friendly staff excellent food.
- Alan (8/5): The hotel and Halesworth - Very hot when we were at the hotel. The room thankfully had a fan provided. It only has 6 rooms. The hotel has a lovely Italian restaurant which was well patronised by locals (always a good sign) as well as residents. The staff were lovely. A great base to visit Southwold, Sutton Hoo etc. Halesworth is also a very pleasant town with lots of cafes, ladies hairdressers and walks.
- MAX (10/5): - Excellent, will return
- Emma (10/5): Perfect little gem in the heart of Halesworth - Stayed here for a friend’s wedding. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful, getting me an iron as soon as I arrived and generally being super friendly and welcoming. Delicious breakfast too!
- Gerald (4/5): - This hotel has too many steps/stairs, NOT for people with restricted mobility.
- Emer (8/5): Great location and comfortable rooms - Great location in the town centre. Comfy beds and fantastic breakfast. Would benefit from some additional railing for stairs.
- Carla (10/5): Would highly recommend. - It was my second stay at the Angel. The hotel is a little tired but very clean and comfortable. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were great! The staff were so helpful and lovely and it’s a great spot for a break in the area.
- Paul (10/5): - One of the best pasta dishes I've ever had (Prawn and Scallop) and our group of 6 all loved their meals and drinka at the integral Cleones restaurant. Hotel staff incredibly helpful and friendly and enabled us to lock away our bikes for safe keeping. Lovely small town well connected for cycling and walking. Highly recommended.
- Allan (8/5): Great Location & Atmosphere - Lovely place, great sized rooms with very good facilities. Very friendly staff, good bar, nice variety of drinks and tasty food. If I'm in the area again I'd definitely rebook here.
- Helen (10/5): Friend's celebration - A friendly, comfortable place to stay with excellent food
- G (10/5): The Angel - The hotel staff provided an exemplary service in the hotel, bar and restaurant.
- John (8/5): - The room was clean and tidy but had problems with the soap dispensers in the shower not easy to dispense ,also shower not easy to operate ,disappointed with breakfast egg not cooked long enough
- Richard (10/5): Nice time at the Angel - Rooms are very nice,
Staff are very good helpful polite & good service,
Food was excellent,
I stay in a lot of hotels over the
Year & can’t fault this hotel
Would recommend the Angel to anyone
Not to mention the town is very nice to.
Richard & Janet from Lancashire.
- Tim (8/5): - Lovely Italian restaurant on site all home cooked. Rich flavoured pizza. All staff friendly and attentive.
- Hazel (10/5): Angel at the Angel - My sister stayed there whilst visiting me. She loved the room, bed comfy. We shared brekkie, lovely vegan breakfast.
- Sean (10/5): - Perfect location for ny business trip with an exceptional breakfast with all local produce 👍👍👍👍👍👍
- Jeanette (10/5): Very comfortable stay. Friendly welcoming staff - Staff friendly, welcoming and so professional when obviously supporting a new member of staff through our stay
Bedroom really clean and comfortable
(Bedroom window needs a little attention as it's age meant it had to be closed or hanging open) but minor concern
Breakfast fantastic. Will stay here again as good base for visiting Suffolk coast
- Gillian (10/5): Fabulous stay at the Angel - Amazingly friendly staff.
The food was delicious from the freshly cooked breakfasts to the food in the Italian restaurant. Our bedroom was clean and the beds were comfortable. The room was very quiet with no hotel or traffic noise.
I would highly recommend the Angel.
- Deborah (10/5): Brilliant! - Brilliant! Loved this accommodation!
- Phillip (10/5): - Lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff, nice room - good Italian food
- Michael (10/5): - A lovely, characterful coaching inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
- chris (10/5): Friendly & helpful - Really helpful & friendly staff & management. A delight to stay. Thank you!
- Julia (6/5): Overcharged - The room allocated was dark no view as windows frosted. Window catch broken and was rotten. Very dangerous for a child as no way of holding window open with drop of a floor to a dirty area outside. Told when arrived that this room had restricted view and this was on web site. It wasn't and no view. I paid the same for a room with a view as one without, really a cheeky doesn't warrant what I paid, felt like being in a cupboard.
Bed was comfortable shower all OK as was tea making facilities.
Meal. My colleagues potatoes were cold, they kindly took that off the bill.
- Doug (10/5): - Cleanliness was excellent,
Best Breakfast I’ve had in a hotel
- Josephine (8/5): Angel Hotel Halesworth. - We used the hotel for its close proximity to Southwold
as we found that in that town B & B were hard to find.
- Deborah (10/5): Welcoming hotel - Very friendly welcome from staff when checking in. Parts of the hotel look a little tired but cleanliness of the room was excellent. Service at breakfast was very good and again staff very friendly. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and presented. Overall a pleasant stay and reasonably priced.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good breakfast, parking, comfortable room - Nice hotel, very good breakfast. Proper sausages and bacon and well cooked too.
Room was ok, had everything we needed. Building itself is quiet old and the rooms/corridor a little tired. But overall very nice would definitely recommend.
Bar downstairs was good, great beer (adnams).
Free onsite parking too
- Carla (10/5): - Welcoming staff and on site restaurant. Friendly service and very busy on a Tuesday night. Nice breakfast with vegetarian options and nice fresh fruit.
- Janet (8/5): Good hotel - Lovely clean room, comfy bed and nice hotel. Food was ok. Table service for drinks was not great as left waiting for a long time but overall it was a good hotel.
- Martin (8/5): Comfortable weekend break - Comfortable hotel offering very friendly service with good food for breakfast and in the restaurant in the evening, minor problem with shower that was quickly resolved
- Elaine (8/5): - Didn't like staff wearing masks. Difficult to communicate and felt dystopia. Totally unnecessary now that restrictions have been lifted.
Rooms were spacious and clean and food was excellent. Fairsize TV, bathroom excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice hotel, clean, unpretentious but quietly elegant, polite staff, good food.
- Susan (10/5): Fabulous stay! - Staff very friendly and welcoming on arrival. Room small but cosy. Lovely, comfortable bed and nice sized bathroom with shower that worked adequately. The dinner in the Italian restaurant attached was very good and the breakfasts excellent. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. Would definitely stay here again if ever back in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice old type hotel great staff especially the young lady on breakfast duty
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff we very friendly and helpful. Especially the breakfast lady!
