• Victoria (10/5): One of the best Hotels in Ulaanbaatar, very central. - Approximately a 20-minute walk from Sükhbaatar Square (airport bus for about USD 5, https://en.ulaanbaatar-airport.mn/public-transportation-service), all sights and museums within walking distance, restaurants and shops nearby, rooms at the back are absolutely quiet. Good area. Excellent restaurants (breakfast, dinner), great bar with outstanding cuisine (compliments to the Chef). A very well-maintained hotel, very nice rooms, a welcoming reception, and attentive housekeeping. Spa with massage, etc., available. Outstanding management!

Good massages available at the spa The pool is closed for renovations - this was the main reason I picked this hotel other overs the city. Would echo other reviews about the standard of cleaning not being up to scratch - cleaners hairs left in sink. Some surfaces not wiped. Also had an incident where staff accidentally entered my room when I was sleep - I checked in early and they didn’t update their internal system. So they entered my room without knocking to find me half asleep and half dressed… whilst they were very apologetic, they only offered a free welcome drink voucher - it felt like they could have increased this given the shock/embarrassment

For the restaurant to run out of yogurt half way through breakfast is not acceptable; for there to be no coffee available at 22.00hrs in the lobby bar, is not acceptable; for there to be no manager or duty manger available after 18.00hrs is not acceptable; for ACCOR the owner of Novotel to ignore my emails and fail to respond, even though I emailed their CEO M. Bazin is a clear illustration of cause and effect. The CEO ignores customer service and that is then reflected at the operational level!

• robert-not-home (8/5): Consistent Novotel experience, some AC challenges, great location, wonderful staff - I stayed here several times over a three week trip through Mongolia. We used it as a home base and would stay here 1-3 nights in between our trips to the more far flung places in Mongolia. On the whole I was very pleased with the hotel. It is (as to be expected) cookie cutter with rooms that could be found at any Novotel across the world. Charm and unique character is not what you will find here, consistency and predictability you will, which is, after all, why you are choosing a Novotel - right? Beds were clean and comfortable, as was the room and bathroom. Amenities such as bathrobes, slippers, in room safe, TV, AC, etc, are all there. Friendly and professional staff, laundry service, check check and check. There were definitely challenges with the AC in multiple rooms. Some rooms worked great, others not at all or cooling was stuck on. Sometimes there was a floor unit (big white thing) they brought into the rooms where the AC was broken (if you see one when you walk in you'll now know why). A window in the room does open so I did this to help cool things down when the AC was broken. As in general Mongolia is not super hot (though large buildings do get warm) I managed when I had a room with cooling challenges. The TV was a little funky with two boxes that needed to be turned on. The second little box controlled the channels and was often pointed down or at an odd angle which made changing stations difficult. I propped it up so it was facing the bed which helped. The breakfast was plentiful with many options. During peak times some items ran out and it took a little while to get them refilled, but they did do it, often to have people jump on it and empty it again. There seemed to be little effort to clear the tables during rush times so things could get a little messy as people left and the next wave came in, and finding silverware was at least on one occasion a real challenge. But on the whole it was a satisfying breakfast. Laundry service was great and reasonably priced. Even used the express service once and the turn around was super quick We did have one night where the water went out, I had woken up and noticed it so called the front desk at about 2:30am, They said they would have a tech look and it was more or less fixed by early the next morning (in fact I'm pretty sure in less than 2 hours it was fixed as I heard it gurgling through the pipes). The hotel is well located and in 15 minutes or so you can walk to many sites. Many restaurants close by. There is a GS25 mini mart right across the street so you can pick up water, etc. There is a larger supermarket about a 5 minute walk away too so if you want a more extensive selection not far away. I would definitely stay here again and do recommend it.

• Dr. Eva (6/5): - Leider war eine Stufe beim Ausgang der Duschräume der Männer zum indoor Pool hin nicht gekennzeichnet. Bei gleichfarbigen Fliesenbelag des Bodens war es nicht möglich diese zu erkennen. Im Duschbereich der Frauen war diese Stufe mit einem gestreiften gelb-schwarzen Tape gekennzeichnet. Leider bin ich über diese Stolpe gestolpert und auf die Fliesen gefallen. Dabei habe ich mir eine schwere Prellung der Hüfte inclusive eines massiven Hämatoms im Bereich des Trochantermaius, der Hüfte und des Oberschenkels zugezogen. Ich habe diese schwere Verletzung sofort dem Diensthabenden Personal mitgeteilt ohne Reaktion. Bei unserem 2.Aufenthalt im Hotel am 17.7. war der Bereich dann gekennzeichnet. Mein Aufenthalt in der Mongolei war aber für 3 Wochen durch massive Schmerzen erschwert, die ein Sitzen im Auto nahezu unmöglich machten. Daher kann ich dieses Hotel nicht empfehlen.

• Kanami (4/5): - The room, the staff, the service, everything was perfect, until I had the worst stomachache I had in the last few decades after drinking a coke from the room fridge. It pains me to put down a 2 star review, but you can understand how this was a horrible way to end the journey with my flight coming up the next day. I was in excruciating pain for more than 10 hours, stomach pain + diarrhea + throwing up. The reason I’m absolutely certain it was the coke is because of the timing, there were little to no solids in my stomach when I threw up, and the fact I stayed with the nomads for the last week eating freshly butchered goat and had absolutely no stomach issue! Anyone who’s thinking of staying, don’t worry the people and the facility is amazing. Just don’t be lazy like I was and buy it from a store, wipe the can, or don’t drink anything from the fridge at all…
