Guest Reviews
- Aileen (9/5): Mountains, beaches and peace. Fabulous scenery and wildlife. - Exceptional get-away-from-it-all location. No Wi-Fi which was a bonus. Table tennis facility which gave us many laughs. Deer, cuckoos, minke whale on boat trip, eagle sighting. Super dog friendly house and garden. Loved it all. It didn't have a soup ladle!
- Ford (8/5): I loved the location. I just feel the house is tired. - Lovely location, very peaceful and loads of wildlife. Oven took forever to heat up and to cook food. Hob was slow too. Shower was temperamental.
- Ron (8/5): Ramblings on Recroy - This was a well appointed cottage in a superb location. It was spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped. The track to the cottage is only some 400 metres from the road end. It is excellent value for money. Deer can often be seen a few metres from the cottage in the very early morning. There is a great deal of reading matter in the cottage, both general and of local interest. There are many useful maps. If you are a family visiting there is an abundance of games, DVDs and jigsaws to keep the children occupied. The rooms are large but the heating is inadequate for the size. If the weather is chilly the wall heaters are insufficient to heat the cottage. The sitting room does have a log burning stove and it is very welcome of an evening, but the heat does not percolate through the house and is of course cold by morning. There was only one portable heater. I moved it around. Another two would have been handy.
- Julian (8/5): Very good - Too many emails for nothing. Towels not included and it’s not really clear about that point.
- Jennie (10/5): Recroy: a magical place to stay - I loved this property so much I didn’t want to leave. Has a real feel of home. Huge windows on all sides looking out onto the surrounding hillsides, where you can watch the birds, deer and lambs roaming about. Wonderful view out to sea from the dining room window.
The house was beautifully clean and well kitted-out with everything you could need, plus some helpful little extras. It’s dog friendly too, with a fairly secure garden (although if there’s any chance of your pooch escaping, you must keep it on a lead, as there are sheep everywhere). There was an excellent wood burning stove with logs provided.
The local area is spectacular and Recroy makes a perfect base for lovers of nature and the outdoors. You can walk from the door within minutes to secluded lochs where you won’t see a soul. Hot water was my only issue. One shower only gave a max. of 5 minutes of hot water, even when the immersion heater had been on for hours. The pressure on the other, electric shower was woefully poor and barely fit for purpose. As someone with long, thick hair, this was not sufficient for me to get adequately clean, which was not very pleasant after a day of hill-walking or swimming in the sea. The bath is redundant, as there is no chance of getting enough hot water to fill it. Again, this was very disappointing.
