Guest Reviews
- Thierry (10/5): -
- Hrusikesh (10/5): Enjoyable stay at a good price - Great staff/service, great location, very good value for money, good breakfast and average room.
We had a very good time here during our 3 night stay. The service standards here is excellent. Reda was our go-to person for everything and he explained us the layout of the Medina so well that we didn't need a guide to visit all the places. We didn't meet Fatima but she was always available over WhatsApp and helped us for our travel beyond Fez. Our room was old and cramped.
Our room was on the top floor, it was quite a hike through those narrow stairs but on the flipside, we had easy access to their rooftop terrace for nice views!
Wi-fi was patchy.
- Louise (10/5): - This is beautiful and atmospheric Dar. It is family owned and they make you feel so welcome. Breakfast was massive, beds are comfy, the terrace has a gorgeous view over the medina.
- Daniel (10/5): Fantastic retreat within the Medina - A lovely stay within the Medina. Wonderfully comfortable room and even more welcoming staff team! Fantastic breakfast each morning. This house is simply a work of art and I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
- Alberto (10/5): - Stile ed ospitalità
- David (10/5): - Fatima and Reda we're wonderful hosts, helping us with tours and navigation as well as seeing to all the details of our stay.
The property is an absolutely stunning home first built in 1366 and then renovated nearly 600 years later in 1946. The mosaics, woodcarving and historical features of the home are a tribute to the artisianal feel that takes you back in time. Thank you for a wonderful visit! One of the unique features about the old cities in Morroco are the winding alleyways and dead ends. Dar Settash is in the heart of that area. Be patient while searching for the property can be a bit of a challenge to find at first. BTW, the Navi doesn't always work!
- Erin (10/5): - Historical touches and big breakfast Check in and out with bags was a bit tricky, but this would be an issue for any Dar in the walled city that doesn’t have a hand cart.
- Sue (10/5): Beautiful clean Rad in great location with the most helpful Manager we have come across. - Location was great, very quiet and very close to a main street in the Madina and less than 10 minutes from the Blue Gate. The manager was fantastic and sat down and explained everything about Fes and marked our map with all the things to see and gave us some restaurant suggestions and also helped us organise a private car to drive us to Rabat. The Rad is beautiful and felt very safe and secure and our room was very clean and large and the heater worked really well in January. The breakfast was great including pancakes, croissants, jam, honey, fresh juice, tea and coffee, more than you can possibly eat. Great views from the rooftop. No negative comments.

- Kristin (10/5): We will absolutely stay here again next time we visit - There were absolutely wonderful, informative, and pleasant to talk to. When above and beyond to accommodate my dietary restrictions.
- Glenn (10/5): - Lovely place in central Fez (where the street Souks markets are) tucked back inside so no noise from the outside.
Fantastic room with comfy high beds and heaps of character.
They do generally treat you like family. Best place i stayed in Morroco and possibly elsewhere in terms of service and hospitality.
Would stay again if visiting Fez again.
Fatima and family staff will sort transfers and other touristy details for you and be good prices (not rip off tourist prices)
Highly reccomended. Nothing. All good
- Guillaume (10/5): Parfait. - Emplacement parfait. Superbe Riad. Nothing
- Michelle (10/5): Great hosts, gorgeous Dar in fabulous location! - Reda and Fatima are terrific hosts, Fatima kindly explained to my taxi driver best mtg point for drop off and then met me and guided me through Medina to Dar.
Reda was great at explaining all the key sites to visit during stay. I had three days at the Dar and it was the highlight of my visit to Morocco. I simply loved The Medina, no where near as touristy as Marrakech, especially in evening after daily tour buses have left.
The breakfasts were delicious and kept me sustained until late afternoon! The Dar is beautiful inside and really is a pleasure to retreat to after the business of the Medina. NA
- Pjotr (10/5): Top!
- Livin' To Explore (10/5): - We loved everything about our stay. Reda and Fatima made sure that every was was absolutely amazing for our stay. The room was excellent. The bed was especially comfortable. Breakfast was ample.
I would really want to mention about Reda's hospitality. He gave us the lay of the land. Provided us with recommendations and even coordinated with our driver for pickup at the end of our stay.
Very very very highly recommended.
- ruba (10/5): - My stay at Dar Settash was exactly as I hoped it would feel - comfortable and right at home. The room was spacious and the beds were so comfy. The hospitality was unmatched. Rida and Fatima and the whole crew were beyond accommodating. They went out of their way to provide us with fresh Moroccan breakfast treats! I truly miss them and I can’t wait to visit them again. The location was also perfect. I highly recommend this property!
- Shada (10/5): Authentic and pleasant - The family that manages the place are such as sweet heart Fatima and Ridha did their best to make our stay pleasant they even upgraded us to the room that had a sweet Stairs
- Wiosna (10/5): Would recommend this accommodation to anyone - The staff went out of their way to make my stay one to remember All the stairs though I did get used to it and the staff made sure that I had no issues with baggage
- Sean (10/5): Fantastic! - Reda, Fatima and the entire staff of Dar Settash are extremely kind and helpful people. Upon arrival to the Fes Medina, they will escort you to reach the riad. If you are new to Fes, they can give you lots of valuable advice and tips about what to do/see. The breakfast is delicious, the rooms are lovely, and the riad has a great rooftop terrace with a fantastic view of the Medina. This place is a great choice if visting Fes! Nothing.
- Svetlana (10/5): A fantastic place with amazing hosts - This was a magical experience of staying in a beautiful traditional Moroccan house that was also very comfortable. The room was huge and had everything one would need, with breathtaking decorations on the ceiling and on the windows. The bathroom had a bathtub, and there was even a small private kitchen. The hosts prepared really nice breakfast and asked us for our preferences to adjust the selection of food. We were also greeted nicely upon arrival and thoroughly instructed on how to navigate around Medina and what restaurants to try. There is a fantastic rooftop terrace that is a great place to have some mint tea. The location is superb, very quiet and, at the same time, right in the centre of everything. Warmly recommended! Nothing really
- Ida (10/5): Amazing place with exceptional hosts. - Dar Settash is absolutely beautiful and really comfortable to stay at. We loved the terrace. Fatima and Reda were exceptional hosts and ensured that our stay was wonderful and stress-free. We can full-heartedly recommend this place for when you’re visiting Fès.
- Gabrielle (9/5): Superb - Fatima and all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. They were available to answer questions, and gave great recommendations. The location is inside the medina and Fatima met us at our taxi to bring us right to the riad. All the highlights of Fes are easy walking distance and there happens to be an excellent restaurant across the street - Nghma Wa Tay. The riad itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable (we stayed in February and we were plenty warm), and the rooftop is perfect for both sunrise and sunset views.
- Andreas (9/5): Quiet oasis with a view - Beautiful place very well located in a quiet side alley of the medina. Fatima and the whole team are really welcoming and super friendly people. The house has a rooftop terrasse with one of the best views over the old town. The (single) room I booked was small but cozy. Without asking for it I was offered a bigger room for free on day two, but decided to stay in the smaller one as it was so cozy. But I appreciate the nice offer. Hot shower and AC (heating and cooling) worked well. The breakfast was the best I had during my two weeks in Morocco. Also, the tips shared about places to visit and restaurants with authentic and cheap food were perfect. Nothing to mention here, it was a great stay.
- Despoina (10/5): Exceptional - Dar Settash is a charming Riad, beautifully restored and super well located in the Fes Medina. The people who run it are very friendly and helpful with anything you may need. Especially the cooking class on the rooftop was an unforgetable experience. Very comfortable and cosy atmosphere and delicious breakfast. I would come here again!
- Frank (10/5): Exceptional - Exquisite building, with a wealth of detailed decorations. Comfortable room, great roof deck with views, wonderful breakfast.
- John and Judi (10/5): Authentic Dar Stay - Wonderful stay in a traditional Moroccan style home turned into a lovely multi story hotel. Traditional layout, with minimalist room/bathroom furniture, and stairs everywhere, including those leading to a great panoramic terrace on top. Breakfast was lovely. The best part: the staff! Bending over backwards to make us feel like we truly had arrived at home. Thank you!
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - The beautiful riad and the wonderful owners
- Abdelrahman (9/5): Superb -
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bauer (10/5): excellent ! wonderful family run ! - the family were amazing .Fatima and her husband were so helpful and the Mom made amazing breakfast and take away meal for us .
The two other helpers were great also!
- Tara (8/5): Very good - Amazing staff, very clean, affordable and great location in the Medina. No sound insulation, you hear every door open and clatter from inside your room.
- Vanessa (10/5): Best Rooftop Terrance & Unbeatable Hospitality - My stay at Dar Settash far exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect, just on the outer edge of the upper Medina, very easy for car transport and navigating the Medina. The building and rooms are immaculately clean and very well maintained. The staff at Dar Settash are incredibly hospitable, kind and helpful. As a solo traveler, they went above and beyond to assist with planning my days, recommendations for places to visit and eat and sharing so much about Moroccan culture. The meals served at Dar Settash are wildly delicious and the rootop terrace is unbeatable at sunrise/sunset accompanied by the call to prayer and delicious Moroccan tea. My trip to Fes was incredible, a huge thank you to the team at Dar Settash for all of your assistance and for treating me like family.
- Andrea (10/5): The Best Riad in Fes! Stay here for the generosity, comfort, safety, and ideal location! - I had the absolute best stay at Dar Settash!!! 1,000% choose this riad for your trip to Fes! It's the perfect location right in the heart of the medina, so it's easy to go out for a bit and come back to rest. Fatima and Reda are incredibly generous hosts who made me feel like family and also a queen. They were always available and ready to help with anything I might need.
Every morning I was greeted warmly with a plentiful breakfast in the beautiful, central seating area. It was the perfect opportunity to ask questions, get recommendations, or just chat if I felt like it. It was so nice to wake up and enjoy my breakfast in beautiful, peaceful scenery.
They arranged trustworthy guides for a walking tour of the Medina and the outskirts of the city. If I had time to go on an excursion, they were happy to arrange that for me as well, and I trusted their recommendations. They sent a driver to pick me up from the airport, warmly greeted me when I arrived, and carried my luggage escorting me to the riad. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe and they have a lot of security features reinforcing that.
My favorite part of my trip was doing a cooking class on the rooftop with Fatima and her grandma. We started with a walk through the market to choose the fresh produce and spices for the meal. I'm a vegetarian, so I thought it would be difficult to find a class with vegetarian or vegan options, and not only traditional meat dishes. Not the case here! We each chose our ingredients and dish we'd like to make. They even made sure one of the side dishes was cooked separately so I could enjoy it as well! Grandma was so fun to cook with as she showed us techniques she's probably been using her whole life! It was such an authentic, really enjoyable experience. Don't forget the mint tea! Nothing. I was completely happy during my stay at Dar Settash! I wish I could have stayed longer!
- Mia (10/5): Wonderful Riad to stay at while in Fes - Fatima and Reda were very good hosts - made us feel very welcomed and comfortable in the Riad. They both went out their way to ensure our stay was very enjoyable… and it was. Thank you! Nothing
- Sairah (10/5): Staff were very friendly & helpful and the room was perfect - Upon arriving, we were welcomed and invited to have mint tea with biscuits. The staff treated us like family and provided lots of travel advice. The principal staff understood English well, and his advice on using Maps Me app rather than Google Maps was so helpful for walking around the medina. Location was excellent, with Dar Settash located in an alley just off the central street in the medina. The room itself was very large with all amenities included, even a kitchenette for you to make tea/coffee within the comfort of your room. The included breakfast (choice of tea & coffee, honey, honey butter, jam, khobz, msemen, baghrir) was delicious and very filling. The terrace provided an excellent view of the medina from above. Words cannot describe how beautiful the interior of this home is, I’d highly recommend a stay here n/a
- Christie (9/5): Safe, comfortable and affordable trip for a solo female traveller - Fatima was very responsive to my emails prior to my arrival. She arranged for a taxi to pick me up at the airport.
The Dar is situated right at the heart of the medina.
Fatima's husband welcomed me at the entrance/gate of the medina where the taxi dropped me off. He also walked me there to wait for the taxi to the airport.
I ate all my meals at the Dar. The portions were very generous for 1 person so I would generally eat my meal in 2 seats (lunch and dinner).
The room was comfortable and was equipped with an air conditioner.
I had a lovely time doing the cooking class on the roof with Fatima and her grandmother.
Fatima's husband gave me good recommendations regarding places to visit, restaurants, the price range to expect when shopping, how to minimize scams- you can't avoid them completely.
Fatima and her husband were very flexible and accommodating, they tried their best to arrange the activities around my preferred schedule. Flimsy internet access in my room. But I think it was my internet provider Orange as I had problems with the 4G too.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Beautiful Riad in the heart of FES Medina. Absolutely recommend - Rooms, caring staff, rooftop
- Miklós (10/5): Exceptional -
- jessica (10/5): This is top notch! - Absolutely breathtaking building, beautifully maintained. A very warm welcome, we had a very spacious room & large bathroom. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. If I ever go back to Fes, we would 100% stay here again, the location is perfect and they were extremely helpful with tips & tricks on how to navigate the medina and where to eat. Top notch!
- Fatema (10/5): Exceptional - It was excellent It was excellent
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Hosts Fatima and Radha are amazing people. Incredibly helpful. Radha met us at the taxi stand with a man and a cart for our luggage. He walked us through the windy alleys to the Dar. Fatima is a lovely person like her husband, and she helped direct us to a reputable rug seller, suggested restaurants to go to and things to see. They arranged for a tour guide which I would recommend. The Dar is a beautiful old world family home in the middle of the medina. The location is perfect! A couple of easy turns and you will be on one of the two main streets. It's easy to find your way back day or night. The bedroom was very comfortable, with high ceilings and tile details. Excellent breakfast! The rooftop deck had nice views! Fatima hosts cooking classes there and it could not have been better. Fatima's Grandmother cooked a delicious authentic Moroccan dinner for us on our first night. Overall, I would recommend Dar Settash for many reasons, but mostly because of Fatima and Radha.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Ashley (9/5): Superb -
- Yves (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, in the center of the medina. The hosts are very helpful and give you a lot of advice what to visit and how to visit. The first night I had very bad wifi connection, but that was quickly taken care of. The breakfast is royal, just as the view from the terrace. I really can recommend this place to everyone. Nothing.
- Aleks (10/5): Fantastic stay, excellent breakfast and super friendly staff! - Great location, walking distance to everything you need. The breakfast was excellent! So much variety - something for everyone for sure - both sweet and salty with freshly prepared fruit salads, tea, coffee, juices, different types of breads and pancakes, etc.
The staff were all super friendly and very helpful providing tips and recommendations around the city. Nice rooftop for an evening chill with a book and a tea. The riad is also located on a small side street so away from the medina noise. Nothing.
- Ryan (10/5): Fantastic hosts - Fatima and Reda are excellent hosts, and that makes this place stand out. I highly recommend Dar Settash
- Jesus (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible accommodation.
Reda and Fatimah have been fantastic hosts, attentive to any needs or questions we had. The room and the rest of the Riad were very comfortable, and the breakfast was wonderful. A highly recommended experience.
- Haigu (7/5): Good - - The architecture.
- The location. It is not very easy to be found when I first arrived, but it's in the heart of the medina so it's very easy to walk around after checkin.
- The breakfast is good for the first day.
- The ladies working there were very friendly and welcoming even though they didn't speak much English. - The breakfast quality wasn't consistent during my stay. The first morning it was fresh yet the second morning some tasted unready and some were not freshly made.
- When I went back to my room for the first night, I found man's underwears in my toilet. This is gross. I don't know if they forgot to remove it from the previous guest or someone went into my room when I was away.
- No one confirmed with me if my payment was done via booking.com or I needed to pay at the reception until I was about to leave the hotel and run for my train. Having said that, I came downstairs one hour before checkout and waited at least 15 minutes before the breakfast was served. If they are considerate, they can come and talk to me anytime in between.
- There was no rubbish bin in my room. I had to collect the rubbish and keep them at a corner on the floor.
- If this place is in a more developed country, I'd give the place 5/10. Considering the building itself is rich in history and they have probably done their best to convert the place to a hotel, I kept it as 7/10.
- Marie (10/5): The best riad we stayed in while visiting Morocco! - Welcoming hosts that help you with anything, clean rooms, awesome view from the terrace, breakfast better than average and you're welcome to ask if you want to change anything. You feel really comfortable.
- Jayne (9/5): Superb - Great location in the Medina. Beautiful building and great view from the roof. The room was very comfortable and clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our room had steep stairs up to the bathroom. No problem for us but something to be aware of if you had any mobility issues. Breakfast was massive and tasty but perhaps could do with a little more variation or lighter options.
- Ralf (9/5): Welcoming and comfortable stay - Kind and extremely helpful owners. They gave many tips for where to go and to eat. We had a late check-in and early check-out and this was no problem at all. They organised a private taxi from and to the airport for a good fixed price. Very professional and polite driver. The room itself was large and beautiful in the old riad-style. It had a comfortable bed and decent shower and bath. There is also a good and quiet air-conditioning in the room. A big(!) Moroccan breakfast was served every morning, including coffee, mint tea and fresh juices. The riad itself is located in a small quiet street in the middle of the medina. At night it was very quiet. We had 4 wonderful days and nights! The only downside is that you hear other guests leaving in the morning, as the room is not fully isolated. But that was not a problem for us. All guests have that same experience and everyone behaved quiet in the mornings and late evenings.
- Long (10/5): Luxurious stay with the touch of family hospitality - This place felt like a palace, with its beautiful architecture, but at the same time it is as cozy as a home. Everyone was so kind and took care of all my concerns, including pickup and drop-off. The breakfast is fresh and plentiful. Thank goodness for the laundry service because I really needed it. The location is perfect, right in the medina and walking distance to basically everything. Also, the view from the rooftop is amazing. Everything was great!
- Burdynski (10/5): Exceptional - They upgraded us to a beautiful room
They were so helpful.
- Carolyn (10/5): The only thing that could have been better was the weather. :) - Location was excellent. Breakfast was delicious -- especially the home-churned butter. The rooftop view... tremendous. Spectacular water pressure and hot water for the shower! And very hospitable hosts.
- Catriona (8/5): Beautiful Riad - Central location, very helpful staff, delicious breakfast. Lovely view from the rooftop terrace.
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place to stay!! Host super nice and kind, huge traditional breakfast in a relaxing corner. The atmosphere was perfect
- Heather (10/5): Amazing Experience - You Should Stay Here in Fez - My wife and I spent two weeks in Morocco and our 3 night stay at Dar Settash with Reda as our host was honestly one of the highlights of the whole trip. Reda was the most accommodating and helpful host we have ever had at a hotel / bed n breakfast / etc and truly makes you feel like you are at home.
On top of that, 1) the rooms are very nice and very clean, 2) the location is perfect right in the medina, 3) the food that we had at the riad was some of the best Moroccan food we had anywhere in Morocco, and 4) the view from the terrace is awesome.
Simply to stay here again would be one of my top reasons to return to Fes (don't worry, the city is great as well).
Thank you again for hosting us!
- Rachelle (10/5): I wish I could leave more stars - I was blown away, the property is beautiful! My room was upgraded since the one I booked was being renovated. The breakfasts are INCREDIBLE. I spent so much time relaxing on the gorgeous rooftop. The place is clean, quiet, and Fatima and Reda went above and beyond to help with everything I could need and made me feel like part of the family. They helped with airport transfers, tours, hammam appointments, recommendations for shops, everything! Plus my flight out was late, and they let me hang out on the roof and relax until it was time for me to go to the airport. I genuinely wish I could have stayed longer, and my next trip to fes this will be where I stay, no hesitation!
- Harry (10/5): Highly recommend, clean, friendly, great breakfast - We loved the breakfast every morning, staff were so lovely and had good recommendations, cooking class was totally worth it, air conditioning, clean sheets and towels every day.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edwar (8/5): Incredible Riad in Fez - Impeccable cleanliness, friendly service, excellent service, and useful advice. Convenient location and beautiful terrace. Highly recommended!"
- Giulio (10/5): I can’t wait to come back! - everything was perfect
- Minh (9/5): Superb -
- Naama (8/5): Very good - The staff were lovely and helpful, helped us with everything we needed, including a fantastic local guide Would recommend anyone who is sensitive to privacy to choose an upstairs room, and not the one at the ground floor
- Veronica (10/5): best location, host and food in Fes - Reda is the best host you could expect in your trip to Morocco. His kindness and hospitality were the best we received in our 10 days road trip. The Riad is very well located in the Medina, a few steps from the Main Street and the taxi stop. Reda arranged for us private transfer to and from the airport with very comfortable cars. We arrived late at night and were accompanied directly to the Riad with a short walk. We had excellent breakfast every morning (which mint tea was the best we have ever tried), delicious dinner with dishes you will never find in the restaurants, and take away lunch that was much appreciated. The room was clean and comfortable, and the view over the Medina from the rooftop was very relaxing.
Thank you Reda, you are really the best! Nothing at all!
- Benjamin (10/5): An excellent stay in a beautiful riad - The host was wonderful and made us feel so at home. We were met from the taxi for the short walk to the riad, which is extremely beautiful, with a comfortable room, and in an excellent location.
- Isabel (10/5): 100% Recommended - The location was perfect to explore the Medina.
Just close to one of the main streets.
The staff was really friendly and really helpful
They gave us plenty of tips and good advices They could have better lighting at the vanity in the bathroom.
- Andrija (10/5): Exceptional - Great location in the heart of old medina. Most helpful staff you could wish for, Reda improved our first impression of Fez, made us wellcome mint tea, and made great reccomendations for restaurant and spots to visit, even helped us with printing boarding passrs and organizing cheaper transport to airport then usual, always smiling and available to talk about anything, he was trully the highlight of our trip to Fes. Good rooms with nice details, very clean and mainteined daily, very comfortable beds. Highly reccomended.
- Dmitriy (10/5): Comfortable stay at Fes - Fatima helped me book a late night arrival from the airport at Fes and guided me to the Riad at 1 am. Excellent hospitality. Good breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable. Great location.
- Juliastrz (10/5): Simply gorgeous. One of the best places I have stayed - This Riad simply exceeded our expactations. Gorgeous riad and very clean room with everything you need. Spacious bathroom, good water pressure and lots of warm water. But what did impress us the most was the welcoming staff. Fatima is simply one of the most kind-hearted people we have met and the lady (sorry for forgetting the name) in charge of the breakfast and welcoming tea was so kind and sweet. Also the guy in the reception gave us so good tips and was super helpful. We have travelled all around the world and this type of hospitality is one of a kind. The cherry on the top of the cake: we had to leave in rush and without asking, they prepared us a takeaway breakfast. If we go back to Fes someday, this will be the place to be. There were some noisy families staying with us at the same time and as the walls are very thin, we had not so lovely wake-up alarm.
- Philipp (10/5): One of the best Hosts ive met since traveling. Nice person who helped us with all regards. - One of the best Hosts I've met since travelling. Nice person who helped us with all our questions. Even prepared a lunch package for our long train travel back to Marrakech.
- Tammy (10/5): Exceptional - From the moment you walk in this place was just stunning, the hanging lanterns the decor the details everything was just amazing. We were greeted with mint tea and cookies. Staff could not do enough for us. Definitely recommend staying here and we would definitely stay again. Everything was fantastic.
- Anja (9/5): Superb - The location in the medina is perfect and the place itself awesome, very traditional. In paticular the hosts, Reda and Fatima are very kind, helpfull with information and services if needed and always open for any question or short talk!!! The rooftop provides a very nice view. Due to the traditional setting it was a bit dark inside the house, but during the summer it's probably great to find a cool place to relax...
- Germano (9/5): Great! - First of all: amazing staff. Very nice and helpful. Beautiful ancient palace, room was big and warm. Comfortable beds. Just one thing, there should be drinking water if someone needs it.
- Mitchell (10/5): great Riad with amazing helpful staff - Reda and Fatima were incredibly helpful. met me outside the Medina to guide me to the Riad, organised tours and transport. lovely clean Riad. highly recommended all good

- Ruzza (9/5): Superb - The breckfast was super, and also the room
- Leina (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, felt central but on a quiet street. Not too far from safe parking lot, too! The owners of the hotel were also such kind people. The building and our room were gorgeous, too! Definitely recommend checking out the roof for a great view of the city.
