Guest Reviews
- shechang (8/5): - Ok
- Russell (10/5): - The hotell reminded me of a cozy family run supper club and hotel you might find in the american midwest. It is not new but very clean and great, great service and hospitality.
- Randall (8/5): - After a long day driving Route 1 from Reykjavik, we easily found the hotel just a short distance from the highway. Plenty of free parking. We had twin beds and our room was very clean. I was pleasantly surprised to see a vegetarian dinner offered on the restaurant menu. The breakfast was a buffet with many selections. Service was prompt and friendly. After a good night’s sleep and a hardy breakfast, we were ready to resume our trip.
- Nir (10/5): - חדרים פשוטים מאד , מלון שנראה כמו כשבנו אותו, חסר רק לפגוש את אלוויס פרסלי בחדר האוכל
- Santosh (10/5): - Nice hotel with good dinner options!
- Cheryl (8/5): - Staff we friendly & helpful
- Subramanian (8/5): A nice cozy option for an overnighter - This is a functional hotel for couples for an overnight stay enroute to East Iceland on route 1. Breakfast was quite adequate and 24x7 freshly brewed coffee, tea and hot water is a great option for tired tourists needing it without using the processed packets that is common in most hotels. Location and view is great. Shower area is constrained as is common in most Iceland hotels and Airbnbs.
- Young Cheol (2/5): Will never recommend this hotel - No wifi available in the room. Room temperature adjustment is unavailable. No phone in the room.
- David (10/5): - Great restaurant for dinner and also excellent breakfast buffet. Comfortable rooms and helpful, friendly staff
- Demetrius (10/5): - The rooms were clean! Staff was very friendly! The breakfast was great!
- Nancy (10/5): Nice stay - Very nice location. Room was comfortable, and breakfast was very nice.
- Dorilynn (10/5): - Breakfast buffet is the Best!!!!! Grandma’s unique pancakes were delicious! Hotel is full of history of the family. I enjoyed the family tree in dining room. All the precious family heirlooms thru out the hotel were fun to look at. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
- Joanna (10/5): - This quaint guesthouse was delightful. Our room had views of the hills and waterfalls. The restaurant on site was tasty and servers and staff friendly. The hotel is filled with antiques, which makes walking around more interesting. They also have several coffee machines and these drinks are free. Complimentary reakfast buffet included scrambled eggs, hot and cold breakfast meats, homemade jams and cakes, beans in tomato sauce, and fresh homemade bread. There is an interesting whale skeleton in front of the restaurant outside.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
- PATRICIA (10/5): - Amazing breakfast buffet!
- Whitney (10/5): - This hotel was a little pricier than most of the places my husband and I stayed at on our two-week trip, but it was probably our favorite place. The hotel has a fun style, and our dinner and breakfast were really yummy. The staff was super friendly, and our room was nice and big with a great bed and shower.
- Diane (10/5): - Clean
- Michael (10/5): - Camila at Front desk was very helpful. Only problem is at the front door slams every time somebody lets it go. And with no ventilation running, you hear it every time it slams.
- Clare (10/5): - A lovely family run hotel, very welcoming. The evening dinner was excellent and would highly recommend.
- Mary Kay (8/5): - The decor was unique n unusual which was interesting. It seemed like it needed some updating. Staff was friendly and helpful. The food (dinner and breakfast) was great. There was one entrance then had to go down a long hallway to our room, which seemed a little strange. Not sure it was worth the long drive to get there and not much around it.
- Patricia (10/5): - Nice host, lots of walkable areas. Beautiful hotel!
- Swapna (10/5): - Clean, spacious rooms
- Margaret (10/5): - Lovely hotel adjacent to a farm with farm animals nearby. The property is older but well kept. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- An (10/5): - Very good
- Parsyeh (10/5): - Overall, everything was good. The local breakfast was excellent and really enjoyable. The only downside was the internet access — it was only available in the common area, not in the rooms. If that’s improved, it would be perfect.
- Satyajit (10/5): - Beautiful serene location, very conveniently reachable.
- Steven (10/5): - We were in Iceland for ten days and, by far, this was our favorite place to stay. The staff are the most wonderful people - everyone was so friendly and helpful. We loved our spacious, clean room. The meal we had at the restaurant was our favorite meal of the ten days. DO NOT drive to a restaurant; do yourself a favor and eat at Hotel Smyrlabjorg. When we return to Iceland, we will be looking to stay here again. Don't pass up an opportunity to experience this place.
- THOMAS (8/5): - Served our needs well. Friendly staff. Only downside was water pressure in the shower was a little low.
- Michelle (10/5): - There wasn't much to do outside of the hotel. Dinner was ok breakfast was good & staff were really nice.
- Cindy (10/5): Great food and stat - Great food! Dinner was delicious and breakfast was excellent.
- Nancy (10/5): - Clean, comfortable, quiet, spacious hotel with great character, full of interesting history displayed in the common areas. We unintentionally arrived quite late and the staff were very nice. The buffet breakfast is excellent. My husband and I had a wonderful stay last week.
- Piotr (10/5): Great place! - Charming hotel with so much character! Beautiful decor throughout and perfect location. Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everything was spotlessly clean. Wonderful stay!
- Jennifer (8/5): Good South Coast option - Booked on late plans to go to the south coast. We found the hotel to be perfectly clean and comfortable. Also, that was the darkest we got a room this entire trip with 20 hrs of sunlight. Breakfast was fun but the only food for 30+ min all directions. Definitely needs an interior update.
- ZHANG-PING (10/5): Very cozy and comfortable, great place. - The room was really clean and very big, comfortable, people were very friendly, they even had a sheep around, it was really cute.
- Travis (10/5): - .
- Marlene (10/5): - Amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best breakfast buffet, comfort stay - The room is big. Has hot water, the highlight is the breakfast buffet. It is the best I have had in my past travel years.
- Tom (10/5): Great hotel, great stay. Highly recommend. - Fantastic hotel, great bar, breakfast and food.
Was pleasantly surprised how good it was given it was very rural and seemed in the middle of nowhere. Down the road from a lake that is phenomenal.
Staff were great, food was great, free coffee, free parking, nice comfortable beds and big rooms. Highly recommend.
- Iordanka (10/5): - Great stop on our journey around Iceland.
Very special room with comfortable beds.
Nice breakfast bar.
- Han-Ping (8/5): - The room was a bit outdated. Staff were nice and helpful. It was also great for the facility offering coffee through out the day. Breakfast was very nice as well
- Caroline (10/5): - Great hotel, food and staff :)
- vidya (8/5): - Spacious room, good location. Decor needs update.Restaurant food was ok
- Sofia (10/5): - Lodgings in this area are generally expensive so the review is ignoring that aspect. The hotel is old but for most part it doesn’t seem dated. Room interiors were bright and very clean but bathroom can use minor refresh to fittings. Staff was very friendly and ready to help. Breakfast was served in a lovely cafeteria , had lots of selections and quite wonderful.
- Michael (8/5): - When I checked in, I was told that there was no WiFi service in the rooms. If you want to use WiFi, you'd have to work in the lobby. However, I was able to get WiFi service in my room with no problem. So, YMMV depending on the room you get.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We loved our stay here. The room was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was great. We really enjoyed this place.
- Kristin (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful! We had a quadruple room; two twins and a king. Perfect for our family of 4. The food at the onsite restaurant was fantastic and the staff was too. Breakfast was included with the room andxwas also fantastic! The views are amazing as well. Highly recommend.
- Margaret (8/5): - Quirky large hotel full of Icelandic memorabilia in the common areas. Good place to break the journey across southern Iceland.
Comfortable room.
Annoying that wifi is so bad (I had some work to do & had to give up).
Good breakfast was included which was very welcome.
- Jonathan & Vanessa (10/5): - This hotel is a beautiful location with spacious rooms and nice bathrooms! The common areas and the restaurants are filled with cool things to look at! The food for breakfast was tasty and there were many options. We also had dinner and dessert there which was a highlight of our trip!
- Katherine (10/5): - Great staff! Cozy rooms.
- Kelly (10/5): Stunning Location - Stunning location! Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Recommend for the views, area, and general location.
- Shekhar (10/5): - Great staff, great food. My family is vegetarian and vegan and they had so many delicious options. I will absolutely recommend this place
- Lorna (8/5): - Room was huge, I mean huge!! Lovely breakfast in the morning, good range of food and of a high quality with beautiful homemade cakes, my son loved the marble cake.x
- Jessica (10/5): - Great view of the northern lights!!
- demis (10/5): - Virw
- Donald (4/5): - Ha ent seen any staff at the hotel at all
- Taka (10/5): - Dinner and breakfast were really good.
- Elena (10/5): - We stayed in a family quadruple room which was very spacious and comfortable with each child having their own bed. The room was well equipped, clean and warm. We really enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.
- Jacob (10/5): Good stay - Free breakfast was amazing
Lots of fresh fruits and homemade bread and jelly
Very accommodating for late check in
Staff was very friendly
- Joan (8/5): - Cute property. Very nice and comfortable. Excellent food with free breakfast
- Gus (4/5): Disappointed - This hotel has zero to poor internet if this is a priority for you. Besides their issue with the internet it is also in ab area where you get zero to poor internet off your own mobile network. This was something I asked for prior to booking and was told tge internet was perfectly fine. The initial response when I got there was they can't guarantee internet in the rooms. After not taking no for an answer they got a device an internet extender to solve my issue which was business related. However that did nothing for the other guests as they were in the common areas trying to get signal. As for the rest of the hotel out if 5 hotels we stayed at in Iceland it was the most dated and took last place. For what they charge you can do much much better.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Great
- Kylie S (10/5): - Easy check in, clean, excellent breakfast
- Weishan (10/5): - Dinner and breakfast are nice. Room is spacious. We have good time there.
- Albert (10/5): - the restaurant was like "first Class" 😃 the food was really yummy and the Staff very friendly and helpful ! Also the Room was excellent!!! Great to stay at this Place
- Elaine (10/5): - —
- Hassan (8/5): - The staff was excellent.
The property felt like home.
We really enjoyed our stay.
- Xinjiang (4/5): my poorest guest house we have lived in Iceland - before we checked in, we expect some essential things that most Guest house can provide, such as cooking place, microwave, kettle. there were none.
- Ying (6/5): - Stuff is very nice, room is large. Only public area have WiFi.
- Prashant (10/5): - The staff was courteous and we loved the dinner menu. The hotel did not have WiFi in the rooms.
- sue (8/5): - Good experience, except did not have wifi in our room. Had to go to the lobby.
- Thomas (10/5): - Great property. Good breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a very nice stay here The only con was we couldn’t get WiFi in our room, only in the common areas.
- Daniel (4/5): - The property is very old time traditional. Dated to some degree with quite a few services either not operable or diminished in some way. Example: the elevator can not hold passenger weight and so a sign describes its use now as only for luggage. You have to walk up or down stairs to meet the elevator if you choose not to carry your luggage up stairs.
The Wi-Fi is terrible and only available in lounge areas.
Breakfast was OK but not great. Much of the warm food was actually cold.
Overall not the greatest choice we made in Iceland.
- Hadiss Y. (10/5): - Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful.
- Laura (10/5): - Beautiful hotel in the valley on an operating farm. Great restaurant and breakfast buffet.
- Pam (8/5): - This hotel was nice to stay at on the ring road. Staff were friendly and lots of parking. It was spotless. There is a restaurant which was good as there is not much around. The hotel is dated but it has a family style charm, like decades of family handicrafts giving it a warm vibe.
- Emily (6/5): - Really enjoyed kayak tours located on grounds and very good breakfast
- Selena (10/5): - We enjoyed our short stay here. Breakfast and dinner was delicious (only breakfast was free). The rooms were clean, warm, and cozy. Lots of antiques throughout the building. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling south of Iceland.
- Vahid (10/5): Clean, spacious, well preserved 1970/80 hotel - Stayed here one night as part of my round-trip around Iceland. Hotel is really well maintained & by far the largest Hotel on the side of the road I stayed at.
Everything feels original from the 70/80 but really well maintained - nothing felt neglected. So it was interesting to stay there but feel perfectly comfortable.
Room was huge compared to other hotels I stayed at during my trip and th breakfast was one of the best as well, going well beyond the bare minimum of break, meat, cheese, spreads, cereals, coffee, juices. But instead adding a whole bunch of extras which was a nice change.
- Shengbiao (6/5): - The closest town is about 50km away, nothing is close by. The lamb of dinner cooked very dry, and in small portion, probably, that is the way it is.
You can stop in Hofn town, that is the closest town, at least, you have a lot of option for dinner.
- Corey (10/5): - A very comfortable and hospitable experience. Appreciated the warm welcome from hotel staff.
- Io (8/5): Great breakfast - Spacious room with generous breakfast buffet.
- Julia (8/5): - The hotel offers everything a traveler needs.
- SESHAGIRI DEV (10/5): - Nice and comfy
- Hsiu Mei (10/5): - Breakfast is good.
- Ron (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean rooms, beautiful scenery
- Udai (10/5): - The hotel was satisfactory in terms of cleanliness and service quality. However, it is important to note that the Wi-Fi connectivity in my room was inadequate, resulting in difficulties in establishing a stable connection.
- Karen (10/5): - Beautiful Hotel and nice breakfast.
- Staci (10/5): - This was a nice place to stay. Very comfortable. Included buffet breakfast was nice; dinner at the hotel was good. Wi Fi didn't work in the room (but we had the farthest room away from the main area at the hotel) We enjoyed our stay for 2 nights and would stay again if came back.
- Susan Ott (10/5): - It was in a beautiful location
- Vipul (10/5): - Great breakfast and nice staff, room was big.
- Linda (10/5): - This is an older hotel property with a ton of character. The rooms are very large, clean, and comfortable with black out curtains. The breakfast was included and delicious with homemade breads and jams- there was something each person in our family enjoyed! The owner’s daughter worked reception and she was so king and lovely answering all our questions about Iceland and the area. We really can’t recommend this place enough! Some people have complained that the WiFi isn’t strong- and this is true- but the food and character and welcoming vibe of the place more than makes up for this. Would recommend to others!
- Shaun (4/5): - Location was good
None of the stated facilities worked, no wifi, no laundry
- Matthew (10/5): - Big units and a restaurant at the bottom was wonderful!
- Lance (4/5): - Room had a bad smell, TV didnt work, no refrigerator
- julianne (10/5): - Lovely hotel with comfy beds and good light blocking shades! Had a large family room to fit our group of 5 with private bath. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a variety of hot, cold items. It was included in the price which was a nice surprise.
- Eileen (10/5): - The room was unique and spacious
- Hanyu (10/5): - Room was comfy and breakfast was awesome! Staffs were nice too!
- David (8/5): - Best breakfast we had in Iceland
- Jeffrey B (10/5): Very nice place - Very nice place. Unique experience in a remote area
- David (8/5): - Nice surroundings, good breakfast, quaint and overall quiet!
- Terence (8/5): - Great spot to spend the night & the food was good in the restaurant. Unfortunately, there was little to no WIFI, which was disappointing when you are travelling with children. Other than that, would recommend.
