Guest Reviews
- April (9/5): -
- peter (9/5): Great place, would stay again - Nice setting, friendly staff, nice food Room was ok for one night Breakfast starting at 8.30 was far too late
so we missed it
Bed a bit uncomfortable for a 6ft person
- carol (8/5): - Location picturesque and breakfast excellent. As elderly guesrs the stairs were a problem and no grab rail in shower
- David (9/5): - Everything Nothing
- Sean (8/5): -
- Samantha (7/5): - Slept well in a very comfortable bed. Was a quiet location on the (Thursday) night we stayed. Ensuite bathroom space a little cramped, sufficient for a 1-night stay.
- Philip (10/5): Great stay in a quiet secluded part of the country. - Joshua was a great host, all the staff were great. Lovely food for dinner and breakfast in a great surroundings with large garden.
Located in a small rural village in the heart of the new forest. Obviously frequented by locals as well as tourists, it was a ‘proper pub’. It’s obviously an old historic building so isn’t shiny and new but that was what we expected and it was comfortable and we were happy there.
- Mark (7/5): Perfect spot, good location to explore the New Forest. Pub served decent pub grub. - Very friendly, welcoming staff. Comfortable bed. Very small bathroom but I knew that when I booked. I skipped breakfast as it didn’t start until 8.30am which was too late for me.
- Julia (9/5): Lovely pub with nice accommodation - A nice little pub in the heart of the new forest. Small but clean room with everything you need. Amazing breakfast. I was worried it was going to be noisy as a pub but it was fine. Very small sink to wash in and could do with a new shower head. Also kept hitting my leg on the sticking out wood frame
- lisa (10/5): - The food and staff were excellent 👌 Better breakfast selection.
- Mary (9/5): Excellent place to stay. - Great place to stay - good location, staff very welcoming, room clean and comfortable. Dinner was good and so was the breakfast.
- muriel (9/5): Super endroit, belle chambre, bon restaurant pub - Très joli pub bien entretenu
Nous avions une grande chambre très lumineuse La douche n’a pas de pommeau et la température est difficile à régler
- Anna (10/5): -
- Russell (8/5): - Lovely room greatlocation, very.dog friendly. No towels in the room, tea and coffee facilities removed
- alf (7/5): Even though my room was very small, I would happily visit again - Excellent location, nice Bar, great food and the best breakfast, Friendly staff I was a single traveller, my room was very small, just enough room to move around the bed. The hand basin in the tiny en-suite was minute
- Owen (7/5): Very nice pub with great locals and staff. - Nice location with animals wandering freely everywhere which is great. Good pub and some lovely locals. Very comfortable room. In the comfortable room, there wasn't any soundproofing from the bar below, which was noisy despite being not very busy. Could do with privacy blinds so don't have to pull curtains. No lighting at the desk didn't help much.
- Kim (10/5): - We turned up early ordered drinks and lunch from the bar. The Staff were so accommodating!! just on the off chance we asked if our room was ready and they didnt mind at all we was shown to our room which was clean roomy and comfortable!! Jack and Josh were amazing and we could tell along with the Chef how hard they work and the hours they worked!! just lovely lads and made our stay perfect! we will be returning next year. Downside was beans at breakfast to much garlic just leave the beans alone. however food was good.
- Steve (9/5): - Everything, we have been there quiet a few times As before on previous visits the room we stayed in was much to hot.
- Nigel (10/5): Lovely pub breakfast was banging 👌 - Nice n cosy Nothing 😁
- mike (7/5): Great staff and food - Location and food The floor in the bedroom could’ve been cleaner
- John (8/5): Well situated & comfortable pub in picturesque New Forest village - Pleasantly situated in the picturesque village of Minstead. Friendly staff and good food in the pub, including supper and breakfast. Room comfortable and clean. Good place from which to explore the forest. Clothes hook on bathroom very loose but hardly a significant problem :)
- Stuart (8/5): Really pleased with this accidental find. - This was a last minute booking and we weren’t disappointed. Chris did a great job checking us in and at breakfast the next morning. The room was comfortable though the bathroom was on the small side. Breakfast was very tasty with good quality ingredients. Nice walk around the village. Bathroom was on the small side. Overhead shower was not very practical.
- Laura (9/5): - It was a very good cooked breakfast, staff were very pleasant and helpful.
- Antony (8/5): A wonderful trip, great surroundings and a lovely inn. - Rooms were clean and spacious, staff were very good and the food was lovely.
- Chris (8/5): - Within new forest, community shop outside Breakfast wasn't served until 8:30 which was abit late to start my day
- Shagrat (8/5): A gem of a place - Fabulous and spacious rain shower. Excellent towels! Both are super important, I think. We had a spacious, high ceilinged room, with a thoughtful, cushioned, lino floor and big sash windows to see the beautiful sunrise. There's a large TV and 2 armchairs in the room. Thwre is a big, comfortable bed, with a nice quilt and choice of pillows, which is also important when being home from home I feel. We slept well. There's an effective working radiator. The room has been renovated to a high standard. If you are staying longer than a night, it would also be great. Wardrobe, drawers, desk and good sized mirror, and T&CMF.
The location is in a more remote village. Lovely for us. Just a short stroll away is a lovely village church, and Arthur Conan Doyle is buried there. We would stay here again. It is also a nice bonus to have evening food and drink on site too. The staff atmosphere felt a little excluding the whole time, both evening and morning. It felt a bit like customers were in their personal pub, interrupting their fun. It was a really quiet evening in there and they were polite when serving, just insular. It's a local pub.
Be aware, if you are anxious about the horses roaming free, just don't look out of the window to the road, or get a rear facing room. The car drivers do need to be alert and meander around them through this village. (Which they did.)
Finally, if you sleep light, I would enquire about any event nights before booking in summer. The window in our room would let in the sound of revelry. Again, a rear facing room may sort this. Best just to ask them.
- Michelle Russell (10/5): A beautiful, blissful and a location which requires you to relax. Added bonus of the village store! - The welcome received on arrival, being shown the room and proximity to the bar.
The location is rural and beautiful.
The evening meal we enjoyed was beautifully presented, with a great selection of choices available on the menu.
Breakfast choices were excellent offering the full range from simply toast through to a full English! Nothing to improve upon - keep up the great work
- Kerry (8/5): A comfortable and friendly stay. - A lovely comfortable stay, very welcoming and staff were friendly and accommodating. Food and serve were great Only small things like no towels in the room and over cooked eggs and sausage for breakfast
- catherine (9/5): NYE getaway - We had a brilliant overnight stay. The staff were friendly and gave a warm welcome on arrival. The food was great, with plenty of delicious options, and the fact that the pub is so dog friendly which made the trip even better. The room was clean, cozy, and perfect for a relaxing night away. I definitely will returning. N/A
- Alli (8/5): Lovely place to stay for a short break in New Forest - Great location, lovely food at the pub, very homely feeling

- Howe (9/5): Very enjoyable and would be happy to return - Location and food
- Voutsis (8/5): Good Spot - Great location, terrific staff. Good food. Sink too small. Bathroom inadequate.
- Martin (8/5): -
- Karen (9/5): -
- Betty-Ann (10/5): - Lovely location and a friendly, relaxed environment
- Bonnie (8/5): -
- Clare (9/5): Very comfortable & a beautiful view from my room over Minstead green. - Beautiful room - spacious & beautifully decorated. There could be a wider buffet choice at breakfast. Excellent cooked breakfast but there was no yoghurt, fruit or croissants - quite normal in other hotels.
- Helen (10/5): - A lovely village pub. Comfy room, delicious food and very good service. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly.
- Marietta (2/5): Less Country Inn, more cheap hostel, go elsewhere - I was hoping for a lovely country inn weekend experience in the New Forest, while celebrating a birthday with family and friends. This was anything but! It felt like a cheap hostel.
A very bright emergency light above the light fitting made the room bright and eery making it very difficult to sleep, compounded with short curtains which let in more light at dawn and very audible noises from the room next door and the kitchen appliances beneath. To be fair the pounding music did stop at around pm, but that did not matter in the end.
The room décor was not so much ‘country inn’, more Home Bargains end of line sale, with cheap, rusty fittings that were a bit wobbly, cheap flooring that was an attempt to look like wood but was not even installed correctly and a failing mattress that had no support.
In addition, breakfast was really poor. Served ham despite telling the staff I did not eat meat and wanted the veggie alternative (although to be fair even if I did eat meat, I wouldn't eat it). The second pass was barely edible.
Access to the rooms from outside was also unsafe as a dodgy door lock was open every time I went downstairs, even late at night.
I was exhausted the next day from lack of sleep and had no choice but to cut my stay short and cancel further plans I had.
The staff said management would get back to me that day, she couldn’t help, offered no alternative but of course that was fobbing me off, as I heard nothing. I called a few days later to hear some other excuse.
- Peter (9/5): Great escape in the wonderful New Forest compact but comfortable room with super helpful staff . - The staff were great and the food was lovely
- Ana (10/5): - Lovely rooms, lovely food, lovely staff, beautiful location. Yummy breakfast, had eggs Florentine, cooked to perfection with fresh spinach and Portobello mushrooms.
Will definitely visit again.
- Lynne (10/5): A fab stay in a charming inn/pub in the forest - The location was in a quiet small village in the “Forest”. Loved the pub charm. When I arrived the room I had booked an hour earlier was having work done on it so I got upgraded to the largest room. I spent a quiet Thursday night enjoying the stars and peace. Breakfast was to order and really yummy. I know the layout in the rooms bathroom was particular but still the sink was so small it was hard to not get water all over the floor. I ordered coffee with breakfast= it was horrible, weak instant coffee, not brewed. Only order tea!!!
- Lai (9/5): Great location for New Forest stay - Location and cleanliness and comfortable bed
- Roger (9/5): -
- Richard Taylor (9/5): It was our first visit to the New Forest. If we come back, we will stay here again. - Great pub, beer, food and staff. The room was very spacious and a decent bed. Internet connection reliable and fast. It was so close to a 10/10.
Location excellent for what we like, which is walking. I feel a bit picky, but bathroom and bedroom window latches were lose so on a warm day hard to keep windows open as the light breeze was blowing them about.
The chair at the desk was a little tatty.
Small issues and it would have been a 9.5 if I could give that.
- Ernest (10/5): A Little Piece of Heaven - The location in the New Forest was wonderful and the staff was like family Nothing!
- paul (9/5): -
- Graeme (9/5): -
- Hazel (8/5): - The team were absolutely lovely. The location stunning. The accommodation very comfortable. The food was top notch! The room itself needed a few improvements. The bathroom door got stuck on runners, so it took several attempts to get out. Some of the skirting boards were coming away from the wall. But we still had a fantastic stay.
- Steve (8/5): It was a compromise, but we had a memorable stay for all the right reasons. - Good location, friendly staff. The mix up regarding the room we ordered via booking and the room we got. Not ideal, but the team worked hard to get an acceptable solution.
- Alan (8/5): -
- GERALD (8/5): Enjoyable stay bit very pricey food and drink - Location, tranquility, food. Prices and restaurant service.
Drinks super expensive. £3.50 for a 75p frruit shoot for a 2 year old a step too far. Resto service a bit slow.
- SophieLScott (7/5): A pleasant stay - Lovely countryside location. Friendly, helpful staff. Spacious, attractive king room with comfortable bed and nice views over the village green. We had a nice meal in the pub downstairs in the evening, and a delicious and hearty breakfast in the morning. We enjoyed walking in the local area and would happily return. We had booked a king room but were initially put in a small double room. Thankfully staff were able to resolve this for us.
We had privacy concerns with guest data being displayed in a public area. I emailed my concerns in but never received a reply, which was disappointing and at odds with the good customer service we received during our stay.
There was quite a lot of noise late in the evening from drinkers downstairs. Obviously this is to be expected when staying above a pub, but thought it was worth noting as previous reviews have suggested that you couldn't really hear noise from the pub.
- Constance (8/5): Quick stop in the New Forest - Excellent full English breakfast! Lovely pub interior and garden. Great location and easy parking. Friendly staff and simple but clean room. The room was small but fine for us for 1 night. Full length mirror in room and fan/heater in the cupboard if needed. I liked the bed but it was too soft for my partner who reported feeling like he was sliding off the edge. The bed was also smaller than expected despite being advertised as a king-size.
The bathroom was very small with a sliding door but again fine for 1 night. Bathroom had a mouldy edged window.
- Taylor (6/5): - The was very dusty a very small sinking bathroom damp on the walls in shower stains on pillar cases mattress curtains couldn't shut properly Breakfast was very good staff was good
- Rachel (10/5): - Lovely room above the pub. Clean and comfortable. Meals in the pub were delicious! Great breakfast in the morning.
- Mills (8/5): Forest pub homeliness - Easy to find
Lovely overall experience
Excellent breakfast, fair choice Tiny handbasin

- MARK (9/5): Friendly welcome despite my late arrival, clean and tidy room, nice breakfast - Friendly welcome despite my late arrival, clean and tidy room, nice breakfast.
- Caroline (8/5): - Lovely position overlooking the small green, with horses and foals, stocks and central tree.
Our room was over the bar and we could hear conversation until about 10.30. Breakfast was not available until 8.30 which delayed us but cooked meal was good. Clean and comfrtabke room.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Really lovely friendly helpful staff and great breakfast. Comfy bed, big room, good shower, everything we needed. Chatty locals at the bar! Beautiful location we just didn’t have long enough to make the most of it. Another time…
- Lawrence (10/5): lovely stay in a lovely environment, very peaceful ☺️ - Breakfast, Beautifull pub in Beautifull location, all good
- DevonGeordie (10/5): -
- Alan (10/5): - I will definitely stay again. The staff were friendly. 4 handpumps of real ale, and the food was excellent, and decent size portions.
- Elaine (8/5): -
- Rebecca (10/5): - We had a friendly welcome and were shown our room straight away. Being an Inn they had evening meals which meant we didn't have to go out after a long journey. The food was fresh and delicious, as was the exceptional breakfast, cooked to order. The menus were extensive so something to please everyone. I was worried the Inn would be noisy in the evening but it was lovely and quiet, even with the windows open. It was right in the heart of the New Forest and we were visited by the horses and cows. Other attractions were close by. Nothing
- Adrian (10/5): excellent and we will be back soon - love this place we liked everything
- Teresa (9/5): - Food was very good, exceptionally good burgers
- Charlotte (9/5): 10/10 - The room was very well kept, tidy and clean. Staff were all friendly and overall we had a lovely stay. We also ate food downstairs in the evening and there was a good selection which was delicious! Location was very peaceful and we had a lovely view over the village green.
- Dyer (9/5): -
- Jean (10/5): Little Gem - Absolute gem, We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night break, the staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful. I enjoyed the singing chef we could hear from our room near the kitchen. Our room was very nice with views over the little green opposite where we could see the ponies grazing and the bed was comfortable. We ate lunch on arrival and had dinner both evenings and it was all very nice, the breakfast was very good with lots of choices. There was a lovely garden outside which we enjoyed a beer or two in. In all we had a lovely relaxing break and are looking forward to our stay at one of their other pubs The New Forrest inn next month. I will be returning here though.
