- Sarah (10/5): Great place to stay, Lovely food, cosy and comfortable. - The room was spotless clean, Bed comfortable, nice tea making facilities. Got nice and cosy once the heating came on. Nice and quiet and I slept well. Couldn't ask for more.
The pub was really lovely, the staff warm and friendly and the food delicious! Pub was closed on Mondays. I didn't realise this before I booked and as I was without a car I was a little bit stuck. I should have planned better 🙈
Only thing I might suggest is just putting guest surname on the outside door so as not to identify solo female guest.
- Imogen (8/5): -
- Trevor (8/5): - No breakfast Breakfast
- John (8/5): -
- Richard (3/5): Not worth the money - Single beds & furniture falling apart draw between beds held together by beds
- Mark (8/5): Good value. - Cosy. Plenty of parking. Another guest (top floor) mistakenly checked into our room. Obviously had a shave. Dirtied a towel. I don’t recall an apology. Not your fault.
- MARY (9/5): - Lovely, spacious apartment. Nothing
- gary (9/5): -
- David (7/5): Cheap cheerful better location the a prem in - Rooms ok Nothing
- W (7/5): Completely adequate for my needs -
- Clair (10/5): -
- James (9/5): Good for my one night stay - Staff very friendly and polite room clean and warm everything I needed in the room and the meal I had in the pub was very nice also a good car park . Breakfast not available and the bed was a bit soft in the middle but still had a good night sleep.
- Wayne (3/5): Not the best for the price they charge, and don’t have any breakfast facilities, very expensive for what you got, won’t - Nothing at all Steel stairs to property very slippery when wet, very poorly furnished bathroom was very poor quality
- philippe (8/5): -
- Brian (8/5): Enjoyed it - Nice place - homely. Separate from the pub. Pub opens at 5:00pm and doesn't do breakfast. Nice cafes nearby.
- Peter (8/5): Friendly Helpful Staff - Friendly, helpful staff. The family room was very comfortable. Good selection of beers in the bar. No breakfast and nowhere nearby to get it , you have to drive into Rugely. Very limited options for vegetarian meals at dinner.
- Williamson (9/5): Would stay there again - Nice quiet location
- Mark (10/5): - Clean room very warm comfortable bed
- Andy (10/5): -
- Michael (8/5): - A slightly confusing booking process. The rooms are not a part of the pub but are slightly behind/to the left. Staff when checking in seem to assume you know where you are going. This would be the case if the car park was clearer and directed you to the entrance rather than the one you see from the road. The pub is great and food excellent. Room was clean, large and very comfortable. Shower took some getting to used to but once you're sorted it works well. Will stay again
- Ronald (9/5): Comfortable clean room next to good pub with friendly staff, at a good price - Location next to pub is good, and in a nice quiet village. Shame about lack of breakfast facilities Breakfast facilities
- Eleanor (9/5): Beautiful and dangerously comfy room in a rural location but a short drive from Bristol Airport. - Absolutely fabulously appointed room with a dangerously comfortable bed which was a challenge to leave. The room was sizeable and beautiful and the bathroom newly upgraded with everything I needed for a 4 night stay. I would have been happy to stay longer. The staff were unobtrusive. An extremely restful stay. While the location IS close to Bristol airport, its not easy walking distance and there are zero amenities nearby. No alternative food options or convenience store within easy walk. A great option for someone with a car, and there ARE plenty of Ubers in the area, but you need wheels, or at least good walking gear, to get around.
The facade of the pub part of the property is very run down looking (the accommodation is around the back) with a taped off front door.
- Jane (8/5): Lovely village pub - Lovely stay to visit family. Good location. Friendly place. Comfortable room. Food looks great and entertainment too. Would definitely return.
- Gail (9/5): Peaceful - No breakfast
Surroundings grounds stunning No breakfast
- Paul (10/5): - Fantastic food and atmosphere Nothing
- Geoff (8/5): Ideal for overnight stay after a wedding locally - Clean and comfortable There was a party at the pub so a little noisy initially
- Eleanor (10/5): Fantastic find with sizeable well appointed rooms at an excellent price. Definitely worth it! Thanks - This lovely country guest house has 3 (that i noticed) very well appointed rooms. Each one is a great size, but especially the family room, which is effectively a suite. I booked one of the ground floor twin rooms and the family room for my group. The family room was actually a large bedroom with a double, a single and a travel cot, with plenty of extra floor space, a good sized shower room & toilet, a lounge area with couches, chairs, TV and work area, and a boxroom single. We could have moved in! Unintrusive staff offered towels and tea& coffee refresh and a cleaning service where convenient without disturbing. The carpark was a great size and the adjoining pub offered great food and a fun pub quiz. There was nothing we didn't like. If I had to nitpick, the cord on the hairdryer in the family rooom was starting to fray (inner insulation exposed on the cable). Had they offered a breakfast, we would have taken it up because the evening meal we had on arrival was excellent.
- Teresa (8/5): -
- Paul (9/5): Excellent experience - Fantastic experience N/A
- Sheila (10/5): Not at all Peculiar! - Unfortunately I had eaten enroute so did not dine in the nicely furnished olde style pub which took orders until 20.30 but, despite my 20.20 arrival I was given opportunity to eat. The bed was very comfortable. An armchairxwas provided in addition to a chair.
- Anthony (7/5): Good -
- Price (9/5): Superb - Very cosy and clean Nothing bad to say
- Ian (7/5): Good -
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Duncan (10/5): - Nice, clean with a nice local pub right across the courtyard. Very handy. However the pub is only open limited hours and no where else to eat within walking distance except a fish n chips joint. We stayed in apartment 3. Suited our family of 4 well, but note there is no mini fridge or micro that a family might hope for. Walls are thin too but not a big deal.
- Southwick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fay (8/5): A very nice stay - Accommodation is separate to the pub and I only heard a little noise from there. Nothing to complain about. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff I encountered were really lovely and helpful. The only thing that was a concern was the Wi-Fi wasn’t as secure as it could be so bear that in mind.
- Smith (8/5): Very good - Clean, good value for money.
Shower was good. Room was very hot at night, just a single window
- Eurwyn (10/5): Exceptional - Ideaal location, large room in outbuilding was ideal, clean and modern.
- Ken (8/5): - The room was bright and airy and very clean. Although the re was no-one to welcome us the key was left in the door. The only real negative was the shower. It was very small and a bit of a struggle manoeuvring the door to actually get in it!! However, the location was good for us and also being a pub was handy for food. Overall a pleasant stay.
- David (8/5): GREAT food, service and staff - The Old Peculiar is what it is !. Staff were excellent. Service was excellent. The food was excellent. Food and drink were very reasonably priced. A little dated all round, but the staff made up for it. A little dated. The TV remote would not work...not a deal breaker just a bit frustrating..
- Fiona (10/5): Peaceful, comfortable and clean. - Great place to stay - beautiful part of the country on the canal and near to Cannock Chase. The family room was great. We missed the fact that the pub closes Sunday and Monday meaning there is no option for dinner or breakfast on those days, but we cycled to the pub in Rugeley and managed to get food.
- Bryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Superb - Location
Great pub grub N/A
- Graeme (10/5): - Lovely pub with rooms. Just what we needed for our stopover on a long journey.
Good beer, lovely food, comfy beds.
- Alex (5/5): Passable -
- Nigel (9/5): Attractive pub with good clean rooms - They weren't able to provide breakfast, but this was made clear in good time before arrival. The meal in the bar was good and the room convenient for the large carpark. See above for breakfast
- James (8/5): Very good - No breakfast available
- Julie (6/5): - When I booked the room it was because there was a restaurant I don’t stay anywhere I can’t have a meal. When I got here the restaurant was closed on this day, no where on the site did it say this, I was furious as been driving all day and wouldn’t of stayed here if i had known
- Clare (5/5): We only needed to stay one night, and it was sufficient for our needs - Position to where we needed to be. Plenty of parking.
Coffee, tea, biscuits and kettle in the room which was appreciated after a long drive. Arrival: had to phone twice as in the first instance we didn’t know which room we were in; and secondly once we were in the room, there was only one towel for two people. This was rectified by the time we returned to the room.
We thought it overpriced for the quality of the room
and the fact that no breakfast was included.
- Lynn (5/5): Lovely pub food but accommodation has room for improvement - We are two friends who live at opposite ends of the country & we chose to stay here as it was a convenient half way location to meet up for the weekend.
This review is our honest experience of staying here.
It wasn't clear until we arrived that the pub only opens in the evening so there was no option to buy breakfast or lunch which was disappointing & other than tea, coffee & a few biscuits in the room, there was no provision for breakfast. This may have been an oversight on our behalf when booking but in our experience, most accommodation we have stayed in provides something for breakfast.
The room was comfortable but could have been cleaner. There were a lot of cobwebs in the room & the bathroom wasn't as clean as we'd expect. The floor around the toilet needed a deep clean, as did the plug & overflow in the handbasin & there was black hair on the sink upon arrival. However, the bed linen and towels were spotless & the beds were comfortable.
On our second day, when we returned from a day out, the bins had been emptied, the refreshments had been replenished and the towels had been taken however no clean towels were left for us. We contacted the pub & someone apologised & popped over with fresh towels.
The food & service in the pub was excellent.
We didn't complain about the cleanliness of the room; it wasn't so bad we couldn't use it but it didn't meet our expectations.
We will definitely revisit the area but we'll probably look for accommodation that offers breakfast next time.
- Wayne Paul (10/5): - lovely place and very helpful staff.
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): Perfect little pub - Lovely little pub with friendly locals and brilliant food. Wished I was staying longer!
- Kim (8/5): Clean and comfortable - great for a couple of nights. - Clean and comfortable, and had everything you needed for a couple of nights stay. Parking was good. Shower cubicle is quite small.
- Aled (10/5): Excellent Find! - This was a great find at a reasonable price. Stayed in the family/suite room. The room had everything you could want including a detailed book of information for the hotel and local attractions. Food was also good and reasonable. Hotel does not currently offer breakfast. Overall, Fantastic! Would stay again :)
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Overall good value for money and would use again - Room was well equipped, clean, comfortable & warm Would have preferred a double bed instead of 2 singles but this was not an option. No breakfast available was also slightly disappointing.
- Geoffrey (6/5): Pleasant -
- Samantha (10/5): Returning customer…had another great stay. Comfy, clean and quiet location. Cute little set up. See you again soon 😊 - Lovely location Would prefer a later checkout time, 10am is a little early 😂

Room was basic and clean.
- Vernon (9/5): Superb - Excellent food and company Just a shame they cannot offer breakfast facilities

- David (6/5): - I checked in and decided not stay as room was not one of the best. Pub looked good. Need to spend money in future for a better hotel. Nothing really wrong with room etc but was hoping for more. Live and learn you get what you pay for
- Brian (8/5): Very good -

- Peter (8/5): Pleasant stay, in a well thought out room in a good position, so there was very little disturbance. - Parking was off road and with a good amount of space
Room was a nice size with good facilities
Pub was very friendly, and Wednesday's had a Pie night which has had a variety of different pies to try each week Personally I found the shower cubical a little small, but I don't this it could have been improved due to the buildings history
- Michael (4/5): I wouldnt bother. 😫 unless your stuck - empty carpark requested 16:00 check in.
turned up at 16.10, building locked up. no one in sight. called the number on the app for 2 hours . no answer . eventually 2 hours later I recieved a check in email with instructions. very disappointed.
lack of customer care. very irrisponsible not having a phone number that actually has someone contactable on the other end.
I have since removed this location from our company's list of locations to use in this area.
