Guest Reviews
- Lynne (10/5): A terrific stay in Shuzenji! - Quite but convenient location with lovely rooms, excellent meals created from locally sourced ingredients,
beautiful public accommodations, and fabulous service. N/a
- Sylvester (10/5): Exceptional. Highly recommend. - It was truly top notch. Really appreciate the hospitality and attention to detail. Highly recommend.
We took the package with breakfast and dinner included and honestly it was some of the finest food we had in our life. The presentation itself was something else.
The Onsen and sauna were really good too. The Onsen wasn’t available to use 10am to 3pm. Would have loved to use it then when the sun was overhead and we just wanted to be indoors for a short while.
- Sara (10/5): Amazing experience! - We loved the service, the staff were so friendly and helpful. The staff went above and beyond to translate everything for us and make sure we understood.
The Ryokan itself was so beautiful with a lovely Japanese garden courtyard.
Our room was modern and clean, the beds were very comfortable. The onsen bath in our room was incredible.
The "sleeping" private bookable onsen was very relaxing.
The food was some of the best we've ever had, the private dining rooms were very nice.
The staff member assigned to help us was so lovely.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and would love to come back in the future.
- Ruth (10/5): Excellent stay. Will come back if I come to this place again. - Clean, polite and excellent service Took a long time to communicate via phone translator as no one speaks English.
- Pavel (10/5): Za mě absolutně jedinečný a nezapomenutelný zážitek. Večeře i snídaně byl rituál sám o osobě.
Úžasně zařízený pokoj i hotel
Špičková obsluha
Pohostinnost

- Nann (10/5): Shuzenji is a beautiful little town and a great jumping off point or home base for adventures on the Izu Peninsula. We - The food was amazing, the room and service were exceptional.
- Kean Chong (6/5): Good for short stay, food quality is good. - The food quality is good. The hotel is nice and clean. Staffs were friendly and polite. Small hotel and less crowded. 10 minute walking to town area. The staffs unable to communicate directly with English, have to use translation apps. Drink serving with the meals were stingy, only water and green tea. Any other drinks were extra charges. As a hotel customer, there was extra charges for using their private onsens facility. Public onsen was free.

Dificil elegir

- Leah (10/5): The was a once in a lifetime experience! Outstanding accommodation! - Once in a lifetime experience! Outstanding accommodation! We splurged for a room with a private onsen, which was massive and absolutely gorgeous! The food was incredible, world class, multiple courses and plentiful. The town is beautiful and walkable, however if you don’t have a car I’d recommend stopping at 7-11 for snacks/beer/water etc because it’s a 15 min walk away. As a bonus, we also had an awesome night singing karaoke at the tiny bar next door, which was another highlight of our trip 🎤 We loved everything about our stay!
- Mumtaz (9/5): -
- James (10/5): incredible staff, incredible breakfast. absolute perfection -

- Beeman (10/5): Beautiful ryokan, with amazing food and hospitality - Our onsen suite was stunning. Multiple large rooms with comfortable beds, tons of historic character, and a delightful bath to enjoy on our own. The suite also allowed us a free visit to one of the private onsens. The meals are also spectacular, the preparation is exquisite and very traditional. Both dinner and breakfast were lovely. They even sent some items we left behind ahead to us before we left! Highly recommend this Ryokan! Two in my family are pickier eaters, so the traditional meals included some challenges. Lots of fish, and some foods less familiar to American palates. The other 2 of us loved it, so take this with a grain of salt!
- Malia (10/5): Lovely stay in the Izu area - Marukyu far exceeded our expectations. The room, staff, food, and service were thoughtful and perfectly executed; we felt so well cared for and truly enjoyed our stay. I wish we could have stayed longer, but we do hope to stay again someday!
- Yan Ho (10/5): -

- Janell (10/5): - I loved this hotel so much! It was a beautiful hotel with Japanese architecture and accents that made it unique and beautiful. It is also very near (walking distance) the iconic sites at the town, such as the Shuzenji Temple and hotspring. Our family had a wonderful time walking to these sites and taking our time soaking in the views, the weather and just the whole vibe of the place. We absolutely loved our time in Izu and would recommend for everyone to go once in their life.
The staff were also so respectful and sweet. They helped us with luggage out and even waved goodbye to us long after our car left. We could spot the staff waving from afar. They are really so sweet. Thank you for making it a wonderful stay. It is not so convenient if you dont have a car, so do consider renting a car! It helps a lot and there is plenty of parking space.
- Patrick (9/5): Wonderful Ryokan. Would go again - Impressive venue with wonderful Japanese vibe. Very attentive staff. Situated in a lovely town. Early checkout.
- SI Hui (10/5): Beautiful ryokan with great onsens! - Marukyu punched above its weight in terms of my expectations. My husband and I booked a suite with a private onsen for three nights with half board for a relaxation getaway, and the staff took really good care of us. We were surprised that the suite came with a perk—one free 50 min booking in one of three private onsen rooms. We tried two different rooms—shiodori and natori, both with very different vibes and loved both experiences. Although we stayed several nights, the food never got boring—everything was fresh and delicious, with some switch ups for variety. The staff tried to explain the menu to us despite our broken Japanese. Room is very clean and the cleaning was done with great care. We were asked every morning for how we would like our cleaning to be done. Would come back again!

- TATSUYA (10/5): -
- Yui (10/5): -
- Renee (9/5): -
- Mabel (10/5): - The Guests Service was excellent
- Peter (10/5): A truly nemorable stay. - Exceptional service! Beautiful setting with a lovely atrium garden.
- Wendy (9/5): -
- Adaya (10/5): This hotel will hill you - Beautiful hotel, extremely nice and attentive staff, amazing food
- Elsie (10/5): - I had a wonderful stay at this Ryokan. The food was fantastic, well thought out, and well presented. The staff was warm, friendly, and helpful. The rooms and baths were clean and comfortable. This was definitely one of the highlights of visiting Izu. It is a bit remote, so there isn't much public transportation. I arrived by car, so it wasn't an issue for me, but the staff will assist in calling a taxi and handling luggage.
- Romain (10/5): Extremely confortable ryokan, which offers a very relaxing atmosphere and an outstanding service! I strongly recommend i -
- TSUNG HAN (10/5): -
- Tricia Marie (10/5): Overall, it was a relaxing stay in a quiet and refreshing town. Would definitely recommend! - The ryokan was really beautiful with very friendly and accomodating staff despite the language barrier. We often communicated via google translate. Our suite was lovely and we really enjoyed our private open-air onsen. The food was also topnotch! Would like to come back again! It’s a 5-10 minute walk from the town center where a lot of the attractions and shops in shuzenji are found. It’s not that far and it’s still a leisurely walk but it’s something you might have to consider.

- Cheong (9/5): - Nice hotel with huge room Nothing
- Lam (9/5): Delighted & Happy Stay! - First ryokan experience and it has met our expectations! Enjoy everything this ryokan provided and especially the staff, everyone simply so warm and helpful! Goes the extra miles to help us. Thanks to Yamamoto San who has been so helpful and cheerful in hosting our dinner and made us laugh so much, we really enjoyed his sense of humour and making our experience here even more memorable. Nothing I don’t like!
- Erin (10/5): - The property was in a great little town, very beautifully maintained. The staff were very accommodating and took time to translate via Google when needed. The food and service were amazing.
- Christine (10/5): Beautiful place. Lovely staff. Definitely a great place for peace and relaxation. - Quiet Nothing

- yukihiko (8/5): -
- Amovia (5/5): Too pricey for that kind of stay! - The lobby and the public bath were awesome. Additionally the free parking was great. At the checkout the receptionist was super kind and even waived us goodbye. That was soooo sweet! We loved his enthusiasm! Poor value for the price we paid! The employees couldn’t speak English, we have had to pay an additional high fee for breakfast. The room had a bad smell from the beginning of our stay.

- Timur (10/5): Excellent Hot Spring Get-away with an outstanding dining experience - One of the highlights of our family trip to Japan. We took a one day stop in Izu between Tokyo and Hiroshima to relax and that is exactly what we got. The town, the hotel were super relaxing. The Ryokan experience was very nice. But, beyond everything I have to say the food was excellent x 2! Amazing dinner and breakfast experience. Private dining rooms, a set menu full of everything, and a great service. The gentleman (Mr Kotera) that assisted us throughout our stay and took care of our dining experiences was out of this world. More like a Anime character than a real person, he was the greatest host we saw in Japan and Japanese hosting standards are very high. The staff did not exactly master English well, but we got along very well thanks to Google translate.
- Churgen (10/5): Authentic Japanese experience, must try - Very interesting place. It was a first time in ryokan for us, so it was really a new experience.
Very remarkable atmosphere, authentic and with a huge politeness.
Unforgettable personnel.
We also took the dinner and the breakfast, and that's also a must. Everything was great, maybe the intro with the automatic translation was a little bit long, but also interesting as a part of an experience.
- Minako (8/5): -
- Maggie (8/5): Very good -
- Emily (10/5): A beautiful ryokan experience in a small onsen town in the Japanese countryside. - The service was absolutely fantastic. Our host took the time to show us the room and explain in detail how the bathing facilities work. There is a public onsen (male and female) and 3 private onsens you can book for an extra cost. Even though there was a language barrier, they made the effort to use Google Translate to make sure we understood everything. The ryokan is accessible by a ~10 minute walk from the bus stop. The facilities are beautiful and extremely clean. This ryokan was one of the highlights of our trip. We chose breakfast, which tasted amazing. Nothing!
- Sead (9/5): Superb - Wonderful ryokan onsen.
Fantastic place to relax outside main tourist hot spots like Osaka, Tokio, ...
Outstanding food!
- Tiong (10/5): Amazing - Very comfortable stay in Marukyu Ryokan. Very beautiful ryokan in a quiet town to enjoy our holiday. The food is very yummy that definitely worth a try. The dyson hair dryer at the onsen changing room is definitely a plus haha.. A small feedback. Maybe we should have an access card to enter the onsen, as sometimes the door of the changing room is open widely even though there are people inside the onsen.
- Adam (10/5): Great place to stay - Great dinner and breakfast. Friendly staff.
- Kean-seng (10/5): The perfect stay in a charming onsen town. - Pretty much perfect. Excellent location just out of the main part of town but easy walking distance to everything, with access to the Sakura lined walking path along the river. Quiet, calm and peaceful and exactly as we would want a ryokan in a small and charming onsen town to be. Well prepared meals, friendly and attentive service from check in to check out Nothing to mention at all! Perfect as it is.
- Alizia (8/5): Better than we expected! - Private baths almost always available, the reserved one was amazing. Food was super delicious too. A bit awkward interacting with staff.
- Anonymous (10/5): This is an exceptional place and a great way to experience Japan. Highly recommend the 9 course Japanese dinner. - Beautiful property, great service and extremely clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Love this place! Nothing . We love everything about this place. The only thing is that it’s a little remote and is a little difficult to walk up the hill with luggages.
- Ilze (10/5): An elegant ryokan which is a must if traveling to Japan. - Beautiful room. Outstanding breakfast and dinner. Very nice bath. Good massage. Lovely little town. Bar area closed very early. If we did not have a Japanese friend to take us from the train to the ryokan, I am not sure how we would get there.
- Ilze (9/5): A fantastic Ryokan experience! - Fantastic food, lovely large room, very nice bath and hot spring areas. Excellent massage. lovely town with shrine, museum, shops and bamboo walk. Very limited English. The lounge closes too early.
