- Susan (8/5): Wonderful historic inn in close proximity to the medieval city center - The staff and host were friendly and helpful! The location was excellent. The birds and animals were exotic and so interesting. The gardens were beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay! It is an older place - from 1750 or so! So some wear and tear - but we found it charming.
Nada a apontar.
- Reeta (8/5): Charming house with nice atmosphere - Cute, charming house with convenient location. Free parking on the yard, easy access. Really nice breakfast room with your signature table. Family owned hotel with only few rooms. Helpful and friendly staff.. Room was peaceful and had a nice tub. Really big bed. Bath tub foam would have been a nice bonus. During the night we heard continuos machine noice (like laundry machine) that lasted until over midnight. Also nextdoor dogs barked a bit in the evening. Good that we had earplugs. Otherwise really peaceful and quiet. Quite cold tiled floors, so bring your slippers or socks.
- Susan (10/5): The lighting in the hallway is a bit dim. - The location is very good. The historic part of Guimares is a short walk away and there are a few cafes and restaurants nearby. There is a shopping centre across the road a short distance away.
The breakfast was good and there is a pond with ducks and a swan together with a couple of peacocks if one wishes to relax in the garden.
We had the smaller of the rooms and it was very spacious.

- Michael (8/5): - Amazing 18th century house and extensive gardens somehow still standing surrounded by modern high rises and roads. Enormous well-stocked children's playroom (not that we used it!)
Excellent location with safe parking outside the door and easy walking distance to the old city. Very personalised breakfast serving. The building is very dark inside and the bedroom in particular could do with brighter lighting. Some distinctly 18th century smells in the bathroom sometimes. Perhaps a minor point, but we feel were rather misled by the information that the house had a kitchen, as we booked with the idea we might do some self-catering. The kitchen has no table, no seats, no saucepans, no kettle, so the most one can do is use the coffee machine and take the drinks 30 metres back to the break
fast room.

- Josefa (7/5): - El personal Un poco lejos del centro
- Luis Javier (9/5): - La peculariedad del edificio. Sobrio, "vintage". Muy bonito
- David (10/5): Slightly faded, peaceful grandeur, with dog-loving hosts! - This is a wonderful, historic building, with a slightly faded grandeur. It was very clean and nicely appointed with solid antique furniture, and it was nice to be in a place with no television! As others have said, the hosts are warm and genuinely welcoming. It is certainly a good place to come with your dog. We shall visit again!
- Panfili (8/5): - Dimora storica, molto affascinante.
Bella la presenza di giardino e animali.
- Armando (10/5): Perfecto -
- Christine (8/5): Lovely place, great value - Fabulous old building full of character. Large comfortable bedroom. We were brought pastries in the afternoon, which were lovely.
Great location and a really good breakfast.
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stuart (9/5): I would like to have stayed longer. - The property is very stylish and full of character. The location is very good; easy to find from outside the city and just a short walk to the historic centre. The breakfast was excellent. A good choice, beautifully served and very personal. Parking is safe secure and plentiful. The gravel will support a motorcycle stand but there is also a paved section where you can park bikes. Very comfortable bed and lots of hot water. The rooms are quite dark. The room had a reading lamp next to an armchair but this didn’t work very well for writing. Internet was not very good in my bedroom but it was fine in the lounge.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Great old house. Excellent staff. Two minutes walk from start of wonderful old Guimareas streets and alleys.
- Christoffel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yuuhms (5/5): Passable - The place is cosy and the staff was very welcoming The place wasn't properly clean, my allergies flared up after the stay due to the amount of dust. There was a big spider web on our room
- Yarin (9/5): Superb - The atmosphere of a traditional house is amazing. The location is very good. The staff is helpful and friendly.
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional - Brillant location and an excellent breakfast
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional - This place is so special.Amazing bedrooms, use of a lovely lounge, delicious breakfast and parking. And so close to town. The best.
- Pat (9/5): Superb -
- Pierre-emmanuel (5/5): Passable - For old fashion lovers it s fine
Good breakfast Clean but naftaline smell
- Steven (9/5): Superb - The location , hospitality and atmosphere Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Rustic, traditional and authentic with the personal touch of the owner. - Rustic, traditional and authentic with the personal touch of the owner. Friendly and a great location perfectly placed for a short walk to the old town.
- João (8/5): Very good - Great location
- Marta (10/5): Fantastic place - We spent one night in this charming place; great atmosphere & lovely staff.
Spacious room with antique furniture.
Great surroundings: hens, ducks & peacocks strolling around.
Property situated in close proximity to the old town.
Tasty breakfast and free parking Bad smell from the pipes; but it’s the 18th century building so no surprise. Didn’t bother us too much.
- Kaz (8/5): Rose gardens, resident swans and peacocks, a lovely old property right by bus station. - Near to the bus station. Lovely to have big rooms and garden area to sit in. Beautiful crockery and furnishings. Great bathroom. Wifi was really hard to connect and only available for short bursts in the breakfast area. Would have preferred not to have to pay in cash. No option.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Roger (9/5): Superb - Lovely location with parking and in walking distance of the old town. The room was spacious with a great bathroom and shower. Very friendly and helpful staff, with a good breakfast to start the day off well. Would certainly stay here again.
- Susan (10/5): A very special place! - Wonderful atmosphere. Lovely bedroom and bathroom filled with beautiful furniture. Comfortable bed. Stone walls mean the house is cool when it’s 30C outside. Great garden. On-site parking. A short walk from the historic town centre. Very hospitable family owners. Our dog loved it too! -
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (8/5): Step back in time and stay near the old town! - Great location right in city center, and has plenty of parking on site. Feels like an authentic manor house - because it is!! Quiet and clean with comfortable bed. Nothing
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (9/5): Superb - Lovely historic building with its own small pond and collection of swans peacocks and ducks. Staff very friendly and helpful. Has own parking and convenient short walk into centre. WiFi range limited in rooms
- Jayne (10/5): A little pice of tranquility in the middle of the city. - The history of the house
- Ioanna (9/5): Superb -
- Tony (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (8/5): Wonderful stay, in majestic building. - Accessibility, abundant parking, location close to old city and shopping centre (with excellent food court), wonderful staff, generous breakfast included, spacious room, wonderful atmosphere of old stately building. Musty smell in bathroom, which doesn’t have adequate ventilation.
Shared kitchen facilities are not really designed for guest use (inadequate refrigerator space, etc.
- Colleen (10/5): A little historic gem hidden in a bustling village. - A little historic gem hidden in a bustling village. The history of the house is genuine and we loved exploring the town. Super comfy bed. It feels almost like a mini farm stay. Felt super welcome. Just loved it.
- Steven (10/5): Best small place to stay in Guimaraes - Old world antique elegance on large garden in the town, great environment and service. Nothing
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Beatiful manson house almost in the centre of Guimarâes.
Perfect breakfest.
A lot of animals around.
- Anders (8/5): Very good - Breakfast, garden, and animals. Nothing in particular.
- Paulius (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Henry (8/5): Island of history - Delightful character and very elegant - a beautiful island of history on the edge of Guimarães. Very easy walk to the centre of the old town. Limited Internet
- Lynne (5/5): Passable - Was a great location with excellent parking Constant barking of dogs on the property, even during the night. Lack of attention to detail. Kettle/coffee facility in room would be appreciated instead of having to go to the kitchen. The bathroom badly needs upgrading. Shower over bath was dangerous as no anti slip mat. Lack of breakfast items an issue, only 1 black tea bag. Cereal jar on table almost empty.
With a bit more care and attention could be so much better
- John (10/5): Beautiful comfortable house - Beautiful old house with lots of parking space and the most amazing gardens and ponds right in the town and a short walk to the historical old town centre
- Philippe (10/5): Exceptional - We will never forget our stay at Casa dos Pombais. Best place to start the visit of Guimaraes (one of the most beautiful old city in Portugal). Living in a historical house full of culture and art. We spent a very nice time, sitting in the garden among the limon trees. The owner is very friendly and helpful.
- Gary (8/5): Unique property in a lovely town - A unique property which made for a memorable stay and walkable to the town centre. Great breakfast, we enjoyed seeing all the animals and very important to us that they were being well looked after. The historic interest of the house and garden but needs a full time manager Wi fi connectivity poor. Kitchen facilities adequate but need an upgrade. Just a few small improvements could lift this property to exceptional
- Julian (4/5): Great price and parking but cannot recommend - The location was great as was the parking ,10 minutes walk up a hill from the old town. A bit of an oasis with large space around the property in the middle of town. The host was very friendly The property was very dated and basic which is fine but the shower and bathroom were poor - the bath started filling when the sink was emptied bringing in dirt to the bath. I do not know if it was a quirk of our room. A shame really because there was so much potential
- Gloria (10/5): A fantastic place to stay at and to enjoy Guimarães. - Excellent location with on site parking and within walking distance to the centre to the restaurants and the oldtown.
Very clean and spacious room in a Manor house surrounded by a beautiful garden with some domestic birds as a swan and a peacock.
The lady of the house is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was ok with a lot of choices to choose from, but we missed an egg (boiled or scrambled) with our breakfast.
- S (9/5): Relaxing stay - Lovely breakfast in beautiful setting , overlooking pond with swans, ducks and peacocks! Large room and bed, good parking and within walking distance of Guimarães. Kitchen available to prepare evening meal, able to eat in dining room and large hypermercado within easy walk Bathroom a bit dated but since you stay in a historic building, this is forgivable.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - A chance to stay in a lovely, traditional old building and family home in a beautiful garden, with off-street parking. Close to the historic town centre, which is all in walking distance (uphill). As everywhere in Portugal we had a really warm welcome, with a good breakfast including fruit from the garden.
- Stephen (10/5): Beautiful old property and gardens! - The house, location, and breakfast were all fantastic.
- Andrej (9/5): When you enter the large courtyard of Case Dos Pombais, a new world opens up to you - When you enter the large courtyard of Case Dos Pombais, a new world opens up to you - almost in the center of the city, there is a piece of history, an old, mighty house, as if you have moved to another time.
It is surrounded by a beautiful garden full of ripe lemons and oranges, a pond where two swans and ducks, geese are frolicking, and there are goldfish in the second, smaller pond... It's a shame that we were at such a time of year that we couldn't enjoy it in full. to enjoy all this as it was too cold outside.
Inside the house opens a large reception room, living room and breakfast room. What a breakfast! You just have to take your time for it, because the table is so full of small details, embroidered napkins, cups, plates and great flavors. The manager of the house, who is the daughter of the owners, is an extremely nice woman, tidy, otherwise she doesn't speak much English, but we managed to communicate absolutely everything.
If you come from places where even in winter we have at least 22 degrees in the houses, it's a bit cold, but you put on another sweater and you're fine.
The house is beautiful, the cleanliness is good, the location is excellent.
- Edward (9/5): loved Guimarães to bits. What a jewel of a town! wouks stay in the same place again too. The staff were very friendly an - Beautiful heritage house on a large garden setting. The generous breakfast was served in a grand old room on perfectly set tables. the only minor negative was the shortage of power points near the bed and no mixing taps in bathroom basin.
- David (6/5): good breakfast, convenient for access to the old town, free parking - Continental breakfast was good. Great location for getting into the town centre. Free parking. An old historic building Rooms were a little tired and could do with a revamp. The building was cold when the heating was off.
- Fernanda (9/5): Superb - Charming old world elegance. Spacious bedroom and updated bathroom.
Property owners where very attentive and caring,
Cats and swans were lovely too.
Beautiful property.
- Aniela (10/5): This is a beautiful and well maintained historical house. The owners are lovely and welcoming. - This is a beautiful and well maintained historical house, with a lot of character. The owners are lovely and welcoming. Highly recommended.
- Claire (9/5): Superb - Very characterful and historic family home.... lovely breakfast....large rooms and garden and free parking. Old fashioned shower but otherwise lovely bathroom..
- Dan (10/5): We felt very welcome during our stay. The location is right at the centre of the city - Location None
- Carlos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barrie (7/5): The Town of Guimarães is Great - The rooms and the ground floor area we had access to had a great old world feel about them. The hotel also left us a nice bottle of Port to try. Loved this inside of the hotel, and although there was no no air conditioning the rooms were initially cool when we had the windows open, but, and it was a big but please see what we didn’t like. Our initial arrival at the property was great, good car parking and really great old world interiors. Once we had settled into our rooms, we did notice some dogs barking and Cockerels crowing. This initially did not bother us, until we returned home. As I stated earlier the rooms do not have air conditioning but as long as the windows were open we had a nice cool breeze. But, the cockerels started crowing around 02.30-03.00 , followed by the dogs barking anytime from 04.30, this went on , off and on all night and sometimes during the day when we returned to get changed. Also the grounds around the buildings needed a little TLC.
Also please note all payments are in cash.
The noise from the dogs and cockerel, really spoiled a quirky but nice stay.
