• Mary (10/5): Relaxing, refreshing - we came home feeling like we had a real holiday. - We loved Casa do Rio and the owner/manager Sebastiao. The property - exceptionally clean, decor arty, a bit quirky, very roomy bedroom with a king-size, properly firm bed, and big bathroom with a bath, bidet and shower. Particularly loved the open air seawater swimming pool which is at the top of the property, surrounded by beautiful plants and clay pots, long enough to have a proper swim, spotlessly clean with a constant filtration system. There are beautifully restored wooden sunbeds around the pool and one is serenaded in the evening by the croaking of the frogs who live in a pond at the back of the garden. Sebastiao was welcoming, clear about what to expect, on hand if we needed him. In fact, I have a back injury and suffered excruciating pain while I was there, Sebastiao noticed and took me to the Doctor (twice) - I did not ask or expect him to do this but he insisted. This was so terribly kind. He has built the pool himself, restored the gardens and the house and his love of the property is evident in every aspect of it. The whole place is very tasteful and different from anywhere else we have stayed. Would highly recommend to couples in particular. We can honestly say we loved everything about Case do Rio.

The pool is modern & clean & a rare find for a property like this in the town. Sebastian is a lovely man who clearly loves his property & is full of information about the area & where to go etc. 5 mins (max) to town. Would recommend. I liked the property but a few things to note: there’s no daily cleaning, no shower gel, shampoos etc. There’s no food/drink facilities on site but within 5 mins you can have coffee/drink/food etc. All these weren’t an issue for me & I enjoy my stay. But it might not suit those who want the above.
• samantha (10/5): Little peice of paradise- peace and quite! - The pictures do not do this place justice. I had the most comfortable and beautiful room with a view so spectacular. A view of the river and the pool. I came here to rest after a lot of stress . I feel like a new person after staying here for 5 days ! My mind is clear again. I am so glad I picked here. ! Sebastio is the perfect host so kind and caring for his guests the place is spotless the gardens and pool are so beautiful and calming. I was very lucky to have the pool to myself some days and it has been very peaceful. My bed is very comfortable including the pillows. . Its 5 mins walk to the old town that is absolutely stunning with amazing cafes and restaurants. I know I will be back here ! This place is beautiful! I am so lucky to have spent time here I will definitely be coming back!

• Nathalie Madeleine (9/5): - Merci à Sebastiao pour son accueil et sa gentillesse, il aime son lieu et travaille tous les jours pour en faire un petit paradis. Très bien situé, literie très confortable, et une terrasse avec piscine qui fait oublier que l'on se trouve en ville.
• Paul (10/5): Sebastao couldn't have been a better host. - Everything. Sebastao couldn't have been a better host. An amazing location adjacent the River Gilao and just 5 minutes walk from the center of Tavira. If you enjoyed the film SKYFALL then this is just the place for you as there's an overhead narrow gauge railway which is quite amazing to see. In your room you hear nothing and the trains are very infrequent. Let's put it this way, we're extremely fussy when it comes to accommodation but this was a truly amazing experience and then there's the artwork throughout. We had a fabulous 6 day stay and would return here in a heartbeat. Thank you Sebastao for your hospitality and kindness. Some of the chairs were uncomfortable

Sebastiao muy amable (aunque parezca algo brusco por escrito, en persona es encantador). Recomendable 100%. Si volvemos a Tavira, volveremos a la Casa Do Rio. Nos gustó todo. Añadiría, pero no es un problema, gel de baño (hay pastillas de jabón).
• Louise (8/5): The pros outweigh the cons and we will return. - Unique and quirky guest house, with a unique and quirky owner. Sebastian welcomes you into his home and is a gracious host. The property is well kept and most importantly, really clean. The pool is a great asset, and the property is just the right amount of distance away from the centre. A 10 min easy stroll and you’re in the centre of beautiful Tavira, or enjoy the peace and quiet by the gorgeous pool. Rooms are super clean, lovely, and spacious. The balcony also spacious and we had a great view over looking the river and the pool. We will be back! The shower could use an upgrade. And the use of an iron would be great, maybe have an iron and an ironing board away from the rooms if concerns around guest responsibility. Tea/coffee facilities in the room would be a plus too.

Discover the beautiful p - This is awesome if you appreciate unique places, not comparable with hotel life. Casa del Rio is unique on its own. View on the river. Swimming pool with salt water and waling distance from the center. The noice of the train every xx hour with 4 seconds of extremely noise.

The pool was excellent This is no frills ie no kettle or TV but it is close to the centre . I would have liked to have had the option for coffee / breakfast but not possible.

• Linde (8/5): Een heerlijke plek om Tavira te ontdekken - De accomodatie was sfeervol en gezellig, ook het terras met zwembad waren prachtig met veel liefde aangelegd. Ook de eigenaar was behulpzaam en zeer vriendelijk. Er is parkeergelegenheid en je loopt zo het centrum van Tavira binnen. Een echte aanrader. De douchehoek is wel aan vervanging toe. En ik miste shampoo en douchegel.

Electrics shorted out so no Ac or lights until 2am Felt like it was a one man band with no staff or structures in place to support things when things go wrong. We would never consider staying here again. Fine if you’re paying half the price maybe but this was expensive

• Angelika Maria (10/5): - Ein sehr individuell gestaltetes Haus von einem Künstler, der gerne Auskunft zu allem gibt. Genial die Terrasse auf dem Dach des Hauses, der Pool ist mit Meerwasser gefüllt! Das Haus liegt direkt unter der hohen Brücke, über die ab und zu der kleine Zug der Algarve-Bahn fährt, uns hat es nicht gestört, es ist eher eine lustige Besonderheit. Wir hätten gerne einen Wasserkocher für unseren Morgenkaffee gehabt, da die nächste Cafeteria doch nicht direkt vor der Tür lag.
• peter (10/5): A lovely place to stay, friendly and private. - A relaxed and friendly place to stay. It's a lovely short walk to the town centre, that has really nice cafés. The room is a good size with a nice private balcony. The pool is a salt water pool and although it feels cold at first, it's is really nice to get into on a hot day. This isn't a big hotel, so there is a limited number of guests, so it feels private and exclusive. I really have nothing bad to say. The owners mentioned the train line in his advert about his property. Yes there is a train, but it passes quickly and adds to the charm of the place.

A cierta hora de la noche tiene algun tipo de temporizador que inabilita los enchufes, no puedes cargar ni telefonos ni ningun dispositivo.La nevera tambien se queda sin funcionar .Mientras tanto el aire y las luces si funcionaban. No poder cargar lis moviles para nosotros es totalmente inaceptable. Ya si hablamos de empezar el dia de ruta y visitas y no poder hacer fotos por este tema. Limpieza en general bien pero el baño techo con moho. Del enfado tan grande dejamos la habitacion a las 6:30 de la mañana, para buscar sitio donde cargar los dispositivos. No desayunos. Se llamo al telefono y nadie contestó. ES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE TENGO QUE DEJAR UNA RESEÑA NEGATIVA.

El puente del tren da encanto al sitio y no molesta en absoluto pues por la noche no circulan los trenes. El baño en la piscina de agua salada es un lujo.
• Harrison (8/5): I would certainly return to the Tavira Inn, life really couldn’t have been more relaxed and comfortable there - The property was sparkling clean and everything was really good quality. The bed was super comfortable, sheets and towels were immaculate. The saltwater pool is the loveliest to swim in and the general ambience is relaxed. The location to Tavira is unrivalled: a 3 min walk to the prettiest cafes and bars. The train line is quirky overhead and adds to its artistic charm as the place is filled with quirky details. It was really nice to have a terrace outside our room too. Perhaps a little kettle might have been useful for those of us who like a cup of tea first thing the morning!

Heerlijk zwembad ook waar je optimaal kan genieten! De gastheer vroeg ons meer dan 6 keer om een review achter te laten. Dit werd op een gegeven moment want vervelend. Desondanks heeft die ons goed geholpen en is het een klantvriendelijke man!

• Juliët (10/5): Absoluut een aanrader, top! - Wij vinden deze accommodatie echt een aanrader! De locatie is top, je kan je auto goed kwijt, bent lopend binnen 5 minuten in het centrum en de locatie van de accommodatie is echt een plaatje, het zwembad in combinatie met de brug is prachtig. We waren vantevoren goed op de hoogte over de trein en hebben hier geen last van gehad. De host was heel erg aardig en zorgde ervoor dat alles helemaal top in orde was, wij kregen zelfs een upgrade naar een kamer met balkon. Dit balkon had prachtig uitzicht op de rivier! De kamer had alles wat we nodig hadden en het zwembad met de ligbedjes was heerlijk, al met al dus zeker een aanrader waar wij zo nog een keer naar toe zouden gaan!

Perto do centro de Tavira e da ligação de barco para a praia. Boa localização. Poder estacionar o carro durante a estadia e não precisar mais, um dos pontos muito positivos. Anfitrião simpático com grande conhecimento na hotelaria, com sabedoria na preocupação dos pormenores e no bem estar do cliente. A perfeição é difícil... mas uma ótima estadia, a repetir. Recomendo. • Irene (10/5): Como en casa - Un alojamiento excelente. El mejor lugar para desconectar. Sebastiao tiene una casa preciosa con un toque muy personal y acogedor. Los días que hemos pasado en Tavira han sido tranquilos y en paz. La habitación preciosa, todo muy cuidado y la piscina es un rincón estupendo para relajarse. Hemos estado como en casa. Sin duda repetiremos No hay nada negativo que pueda decir.

It should be emphasied that as an older building it does not have a bidet. There were water works for the last day of our stay, which we were not aware of happening until after our arrival. Perhaps they were urgent.

• Gabriel (2/5): Uma má experiência - Desde logo o facto de ter uma ponte de comboio que passa durante a noite, por diversas vezes, facto que nunca foi relatado, obstando a um descanso para que fomos. Um banco de jardim dentro do hall de entrada o que levou meu marido a embater com violência tendo ficado mal tratado e isto porque a luz instantânea apenas liga com os hospedes já dentro podendo acontecer com outros hóspedes. Procurei por todo o lado caixa de primeiros socorros e não encontramos. Não encontramos indicação de telefone de farmácia ou posto de saúde. Ao questionarmos o proprietário este reagiu muito mal, não aceitando as criticas construtivas. Contudo, o pior está no facto ao entrar no quarto vindo pelas 21h52, encontramos fezes de ratos na quarto. ( Casa de banho) Chamado o proprietário, recebeu-nos de muito mau agrado tendo dito que a essa hora 21H54, não se incomoda ninguém, mesmo depois de lhe haver dito que havia fezes de Rato, tendo dito que estamos na natureza e ali podem aparecer cobras aranha e lagartixas Ora se estava atônita pior fiquei. Se sabíamos que a limpeza não é feita durante 8 dias o que discordamos, mas foi o que nos foi informado à chegada, a verdade é que o espaço a nosso ver, descura os hospedes. Se algo acontecer como foi o caso ficamos entregues à nossa sorte e sem dados para contactar ninguém a que acresce que nem em português se encontra nada escrito. Gel de banho ou champô não há. Lixos fora ou limpeza se desejarmos temo-lo de fazer nós. A simpatia demonstrada no inicio depressa se estilhaçou quando apareceram alguns problemas. Para descansar, está fora de questão. Lamentavelmente, sempre fomos abordados com um ar de superioridade do sr, que não gostamos. Por isso, não podemos em consciência valorar o espaço. • Andrew (9/5): Pleasant stay for one night - It was a last minute booking, it was easy to find , nice owner, overlooking the river, the train ran overhead but it was every hour and only lasted 5 seconds, pool was nice and warm, easy to walk into Tavira, also had a fridge Could have done with a kettle
• John (4/5): Loved Tavira and the restaurants. Loved the ferry out to the beautiful Tavira beach - The location was convenient The bed was hard with a plasticky cover on it .Had to ask for a pillow as bed had only two small cushions . The train went overhead from 7 am until 11 pm and was extremely loud. On arrival we were told a list of about 10 things we couldn’t do. Don’t walk about with high heels( noisy) Don’t put your glass directly onto the bedside table( noisy)Don’t keep the bottle opener in your room ( could each room not have a bottle opener each? Don’t put the toilet paper down the toilet .put the plastic bag with the toilet paper in the correct bin. Don’t take food up to pool area. Put the pool sprayer back properly . Put the sun lounger covers back properly.Towels will only be changed after 4 days. It felt like school camp instead of a holiday. No tv or any luxuries in the room ( like shower gel/ shampoo) Room was for two people but only one chair to sit on.

• Jose Manuel (9/5): Perfecto para conocer Tavira y alrededores - La piscina y la tranquilidad La ropa de cama estaba bastante gastada y esa manta de cuadros que pone encima desmerece mucho. El paso del tren no lo pongo porque ya está asumido al hacer la reserva y te acostumbras.

• Jesper (7/5): Nice place - A nice and very interesting little cosy place. Lots of artwork and a beautiful little garden. A coffemaker/kettle would have been nice. Too many "do's and dont's" considering it is an adult only hotel

• Brett (6/5): Quirky place and friendly owner - Just a few minutes walk to town Away from the noise of the town The owner is lovely and helpful. Very clean. No kids Pool onsite. The beach is very nice via a short ferry ride. Lots of cafes and restaurants and you can rent sun shades and cabanas on the beach. Some cafes are very basic, others are high end. No kettle or facilities to make a drink. This was an issue for us. The owner has problems with "marks" on the floor and bedding from making drinks it seems. No lift so not suitable if steps are an issue. The train line next to the property. Its clearly explained online so it wasn't a surprise. Every 2 hours the local 3 carriage train goes rattling across the bridge. Its loud outside for about 5 seconds then its gone. The windows are double glazed so train noise not an issue when closed but we were there in May so wasnt too hot and didn't want to sleep with the AC on so had to wear ear plugs for the early morning train so not ideal .

• JORDI (7/5): Correcto para pasar pocas noches - Proximidad del centro de Tavira. La cama no es cómoda.
• Alberto Torelli (9/5): Buen alojamiento cerca del centro. - Casa muy bonita al lado del río bajo el puente ferroviario. El pasaje del tren no es una molestia. Buena aislación acústica. Lindo entorno y buena piscina ( de agua salada) A pesar de ser personas mayores con más de 40 años viajando, el propietario da indicaciones como si se tratara de unos adolescentes, haciendo incluso demostraciones de cómo apoyar un vaso sobre las carpetas. Obviamente está orgulloso de su casa, pero es excesivamente insistente. El establecimiento no ofrece desayuno, ni comidas ,y por este exceso de cuidado, no tiene jarra eléctrica en la habitación ni permite llevar envases al entorno de la piscina. Eso hace que el lugar sea incompleto, y no se puedan aprovechar los entornos cómo se podría. El propietario se molesta cuando los huéspedes hacen alguna observación (Ver respuestas a comentarios con menos de ocho puntos )
• Stefano (9/5): - Location vicina al centro, con parcheggio auto molto comodo. La stanza ha tutto ciò che serve, è molto carina e spaziosa. Sebastiao è un ottimo oste e dà indicazioni su tutto ciò di cui si può avere bisogno. La stanza era senza televisore ma per quanto mi riguarda è un plus. La piscina non l'ho utilizzata ma è molto carina e tenuta egregiamente. Niente, tutto molto funzionale.
• Nicola (10/5): A comfortable stay in a great location! - Casa do Rio is a lovely place to stay in Tavira. The room we had was spacious and very nicely decorated in an attractive rustic style. It had a little balcony, a comfortable bed and a good sized bathroom. The host is very helpful and welcoming and rightly proud of his business. The pool was delightful on a hot day! The location is excellent, a very short walk to everything, including the bus station, and very quiet and relaxing, right by the river. Don't let the closeness of the railway line put you off. The trains are infrequent and it's all over in a matter of seconds! We had a great few days, thanks very much 😊 Nothing, everything was just great.
• Clive (9/5): A beautifully unique place to stay - Lovely ambience, unique, artfully decorated. Ourhost was friendly and very knowledgeable. Though I knew there were no facilities for hot drinks on site, I did miss my morning cup of tea.
• Sebastian (10/5): - Sebastiao, unser Gastgeber und Inhaber des Hotels, war wirklich sehr zuvorkommend und aufmerksam. Er hat das kleine Hotel wahnsinnig liebevoll eingerichtet. Unser Zimmer mit einem kleinen Balkon mit Blick auf den Fluss war herrlich zum morgend/abendlichen Entspannen und der Salzwasserpool sehr sauber und erfrischend.
• Lilian (8/5): Wir fühlten uns wohl. - Der Garten ist gepflegt. Nahe vom Zentrum. Badezimmer etwas in die Jahre gekommen.
• Alexandra (9/5): Simplicidade e conforto andam de braços dados 😊 - Localização , conforto, ambiente exterior da piscina . A Casa do Rio é um excelente spot para descansar ! Nada me desagradou .
