Guest Reviews
- ธนาวัฒน์ (10/5): - เงียบสงบ คนดูแลน่ารักช่วยหาเหยื่อตกปลาให้ บรรยากาศดีมากๆครับ
- Dr (8/5): Very good -
- Jane (6/5): Pleasant -
- Thorpe (10/5): A hidden gem - We were slightly underwhelmed when first arriving but very quickly came to love the place and even extended our stay twice. The location is stunning, the rooms were spacious with good aircon and had amazing views from the balcony. There is also a large pool. The staff and management were so helpful and friendly with great communication. The surrounding area is some of the nicest on Koh Chang with hardly any tourists but still lots of good places to eat and Aoy’s bakery next door is a must visit!
- Catherine (10/5): On the quiet East side of Koh Chang which is such a contrast to the West. Peaceful with more local feel. Shall return t - Beautiful accommodation with the most amazing views. Friendly staff. Our room was huge. I could live here. The sunrises are amazing. I would wake up at 5.30 and watch and listen to Koh Chang come to life. A tv would have been good for the evenings.
- Richard (3/5): NOT WORTH IT - Once your at the rooms it’s truly beautiful They advertise a Resteraunt when in actuality it’s basically a continental breakfast w a 2 hour window. The place is surrounded by a slum.
Very few Resteraunt and zero bars. To advertise this as the more beautiful and serine side of the Island is a massive understatement
There is NOTHINHG here! Over 1000 baht to get anywhere. The exception would be 200 B to get to THE ONLY 7/11 on this side of the Island. Go to White Sands unless you’re a total recluse.
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional - Our second time there and we will definitely be back. We stayed in one of the new properties- which was lovely! Staff are amazing, tasty free breakfast, beautiful views and nothing is too much trouble- if you need a bike give them a days warning.
- Remi (10/5): Exceptional - - Great staff, nice room and views
- Ross (10/5): Just perfect for what we were looking for, off the beaten track and so beautiful. We loved it. - Great value for money. Lovely quiet peaceful location. We stayed waterfront, and loved the views. The restaurant nearby was really good, with the fish so fresh they were swimming in nets below the pier. Such a cute cafe nearby. The manager was very attentive and helpful even organising a last-minute boat and snorkeling trip for just the two of us (which picked us up just outside of our room). We did ask for a mattress topper and this made the bed quite comfortable. The room had everything we needed and was very clean. The restaurant wasn't open when we were there but we look forward to returning and trying it out. Loved this place and if you are looking for great value for money in a peaceful location this is it. Loved everything about this place. We had a car, and would imagine that if you stayed more than a couple of days you would need one (or a boat).
- Nienhaus (10/5): Exceptional - Nice place Nothing to say
- Michał (9/5): Superb - Very nice, spacious rooms view amazing view, terrace, free kayaks, simple but good breakfasts included, helpfull staff. -
- Hannah (10/5): Peaceful paradise! - On the quieter side of the island (East side) which was amazing after staying for a few nights in the west. The property is so quiet and peaceful! The rooms were dated but clean and comfortable. The communication was amazing, any questions were answered quickly and tours / taxis / laundry were organised with ease. Easy to hire a scooter and get to amazing beaches nearby. Breakfast every morning on the floating restaurant was an amazing way to start the day. I highly recommend the 3 island tour… wow!! I would 100% come back to Island View.
- Farquharson (9/5): Superb - Peaceful and calm location truly tranquil. Staff were also very attentive and arranging transfers was made easy. NA
- Júlíanna (8/5): Wonderfully peaceful and simple - I was underwhelmed when I first arrived, but this place managed to prove me wrong in just a few days. It’s located at the very end of the non-touristy side of the island, very secluded and remote. The rooms are basic but had everything you need. I stayed in the hillside and had a private balcony with seaview and sunrise. The pool is great and that are is actually very cozy and beautiful even though it’s been a bit neglected. The staff is super friendly and they almost felt like family for my stay which was so appreciated. The breakfast is super basic with a choice between a fruit plate or eggs+toast but it was simple and great. If you walk a bit further there is the loveliest cafe that has amazing coffee, sandwiches and cakes in a cozy atmosphere- I went there every single day and became friends with the owners, lovely people!
I recommend kayaking over to the small island where there is a beautiful beach. Be aware that the road around the island does not go all the way around, it’s missing only a few km and this place is at the end of the road on the more remote side. All the taxis from the ferry where going the other direction for only 150baht but I had to take a taxi alone and pay 1000baht to get there. Also make sure you bring cash with you because the next atm is some km away, but if you don’t have transportation the hotel staff will take you there for a little fee.
- Wioleta (10/5): Lovely stay, perfect views! - Beautiful place, great views, perfect for sunrise Lovers, extremely clean!
Very nice Owners, wonderful hospitality. Breakfasts could be more varied :).
- Keleti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mietola (9/5): Beautiful view - Island View Resort has beautiful view and you really could enjoy peaceful atmosphere there. You could borrow the kayaks from the resort and make nice trip to near by islands. Staff was lovely!! There wasn't things I didn't like, but you could have couple of sunbeds at pool area and a bit more furniture in the room to make this nice place even more comfortable. :)
- Tereza (9/5): lovely - beautiful room with amazing view, place for relaxing, personal very helpful, they rent scooter which are necessary to get somewhere and they have also kayaks for free. good thing to know, there is no beach. two restaurants nearby i would only add small shampoo and deckchairs at pool area, maybe tiny upgrade of breakfast :)
- Julie (8/5): Such a nice calm stay - Lovely host and crew, such a nice view from the rooms, clean. Nice breakfast spot
Its still a bit under construction but the ares is cute. 2 restaurants and one great Cafe in walking distance. You definitely need a scooty there and they couldnt organise one for us :(
The Toilet was a bit smelly
- Adrian (9/5): Nice genuine stay in koh Chang - Clean and quiet. The staff Is very friendly and gives plenty of tips on what to go do and see around. There is a bakery just around the corner that serves delicious sandwiches. It’s remote so you really get the feeling of being in a local place The mattress is a bit hard but that is quite common in Thailand. Like most comments say it’s on the eastern side of the island so be sure to have a scooter ready to get there as transports and taxis tend to not go on that side of the island or at very high prices
- Sheppy (7/5): Good - We were given a room up the hill, and could only receive WIFI outside on the balcony, nothing inside the room.I messaged the resort staff on several occasions, and they said they would send someone, but no one arrived,so please be aware,if you book this resort and you are put up the hill, you will not get WIFI on the room, this was the only downside.
- Jan (10/5): The whole stay was amazing. - Unforgettable experience, great place for relaxation, we were at Kai Bae many nights before coming to this place, and it was the best decision. The staffs were so friendly, everything was so comfortable throughout the stay. We took the kayak to white sand island, and it was very nice especially we got a chance to picnic there and do some snorkelling. The breakfast was good, amazing swimming pool surrounded by nature and really nice view.
- Krisztina (10/5): Exceptional - Everybody was kind and helpful. Beautiful view to the see.
We could use a kayak and a motorbike and had a very pleasant Time there.
Thank you.
- Janine (8/5): Very good - The views from the room are incredible and it's very quiet. You can't fault the cleanliness but this is no frills. Simple, comfortable and with a balcony looking over a beautiful view.
There is a cafe nearby and a couple of nice restaurants so easy and relaxing for a couple of nights stay.. We enjoyed the chilling. Breakfast over the water is nice but simple fare. There are kayaks to hire which was nice too and an island to paddle to, but we never quite got round to it,
The overall experience fits the price and we all enjoyed the peace and would go again for the views. It is signposted at the car park but not really when you get there. It all looked locked up, but we rang and the lady running it turned up. She and the staff were really helpful once we found them. The pool is gorgeous and clean but could do with a few extra chairs by it. Bathroom amenities were limited and differed between the three rooms but the staff provided everything we asked for.
- Josep (6/5): Good room average service - The room is very nice, and so the views to the island, quiteness (too much actially)..Hot water was OK and in general if you check just on the room, it was very nice. But… The breakfast that was included, it means just 2 piece of bread, 1 omelette or 2 eggs or a plate of fruit which is OK but if you ask for a little bit of fruit, they want to charge you like 80 baht, but in general, it looks like you are begging for your breakfast
The room was not made in the four days and night of that we stayed there and the change of towels was just because we asked
The initial towels were smelling very bad so not super cool
Also, the distance from any facility, it was more than 40 minutes driving to the Sunset area where you can find proper and nice beach.
And also, the communication with the host was difficult since they don’t speak in English
It wasn’t so bad, but it is not a place that I would come back for these several reasons.
- Michael (9/5): Peaceful, tranquil and beautiful - Loved my stay here. A perfect location to get away from the crowds and just relax, surrounded by beautiful scenery in a peaceful, traditional Thai fishing village, with the property being right on the water with great views of the surrounding bay.
Staff were friendly, smiling and very helpful, dealing quickly with any questions and helping out with renting a scooter before I arrived; they also recommended and arranged a small boat/snorkeling trip to some of the nearby islands which I really enjoyed.
There are not many restaurants in the local village, but those that are there have a good selection of tasty food. There is also an excellent cafe/bakery a 1 minute walk away.
My room (garden view) was fairly basic, but clean and comfortable with a large balcony offering a great view of the sea and islands opposite. I'm not sure this is really a downside, but people should be aware. The resort is indeed peaceful and tranquil (perfect for what I wanted), but it is pretty much right at the bottom of the East side of the island and so for some it may feel a little too isolated. Transport on this side of the island is not great (almost all focused on the busy West side), and so if you do want to do any exploring you should be confident in your ability to ride a scooter (also in high season try to contact the property to arrange this before you arrive), or at least be prepared to pay a lot for a songtheaw taxi every time you want to go anywhere. Even the nearest 7-11 is probably 45 minutes walk away if you don't ride a scooter (although there are a couple of much more convenient local stores close to the resort).
So enjoy the peace and quiet - but be prepared for it :)
- Serge (9/5): We had a great stay at Island View Resort - The location, the personnel and sleeping on the water. It’s a great location to explore this side of the island. It’s probably the best part of the island if you like quietness. Not much people around here. The personnel is very nice and friendly! Make sure you arrange a scooter before you arrive. You need it at this side of the island. We did get a scooter, but it was hard to get one. Be prepared beforehand. Not really a negative for the accommodation, but a tip for anybody staying here.
- Sean (10/5): Just wonderful - The location is perfect for relaxing and enjoying our vacation. Meet and exceeds the expectations from the booking, even better than the pictures. The staffs were very welcoming and helpful with any inquiry. Beautiful sunrise from the balcony, the room has just been recently renovated so we were very happy.
- Gary (8/5): Very good - Great place staff amazing if you like to fish you can from your room great pool only negative is you need transport would go again no problem.
- Ondrej (6/5): Pleasant - Kayak for free
Very big room with new furniture and nice bathroom
Beautiful view on Sunrise directly from bed
Big balcony Breakfast very very low cost
(2 eggs OR fruit OR rice soup)
Location completely out of everything in Koh Chang. I advice this location to Sailors, fishermen and people who like to be alone.
- Lance (10/5): Exceptional - The view from our room was spectacular the room was comfortable and clean It was a great stay in would have liked to stay longer
- Ellen (10/5): Paradise - Such a beautiful place with stunning views from the room. This place truly is paradise. We reserved the room just for a night but ending up staying a week. Day trip to other islands are a must. Staff are so friendly, Kanya was always so helpful to us, she's the sweetest staff we've met so far. The resort gave us an upgrade to a really nice room. It's next to the swimming pool, with stunning views. Definitely won't be our last time to this place. At first my husband had a hard time with the mattress, but the resort set us a topper on the mattress and it was heaven sent.
- Katrina (10/5): Best Place for Vacation in Koh Chang - The experience at Island View Resort was beyond our expectations. It's peaceful there, it is what an island should be really about. The staffs are amazing, they may not speak English fluently, but they try their very best to communicate with you. The swimming pool has the best view from the top. You may need to drive quite a distance to go there, but trust us, it's worth it! The breakfast is quite optional as well comparing to the price of the room. We really enjoyed it there, especially paddling with the Kayak to an island nearby. The balcony is huge, amazing view from above and beautiful sunrise as well. Will definitely go back there! 10 out of 10! Nothing at all! We had an amazing time there.
- Niels (9/5): Lovely quiet place with good facilities and great staff! - Very nice view, great staff! For us the perfect location (very quiet)! Not much to dislike. The breakfast could be a bit better.
- Sangameswara (7/5): It was relaxing stay with nice view.can bebetter. - location, Cleanliness, Staff
Staff Kanya was cooperative. Breakfast. we were the only guests.
Vegetarian was not available.
- Arunas (9/5): Superb -
- Avrom (5/5): Value for money but not the greatest in terms of location and no swimming pool. - The price.. It was in the middle of nowhere.. very difficult to travel to and you need transportation.. the hotel is a little journey of a walk to get to.. the people were nice but I ended up leaving to stay in a better hotel.. if you're trying to save money then it's fine but for me, I wanted to be a little closer to where things are and this place was in the middle of nowhere.
- Sasha (8/5): Very good - Loved the rooms on the mountain side, big rooms with huge kitchen area and balcony.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - nice rooms, very nice small pool
- Giorgi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vaitanaki (10/5): Everything was perfect, the staff is super lovely and helpful for any kind of information. I highly recommend if you wan -
- Aurelia (7/5): Good - It's a beautiful place It's very isolated and difficult to get to
- Barbara (7/5): Good -
- Mathilde (9/5): Wonderful stay and incredible place - The rooms with view, that were very confortable and the lovely staff. The place is incredible, very peacefull and quiet. We did not know that the hotel was on the other side of the island and thus it is a bit difficult to go by your own in a cheaper way. There is not so many restaurants to eat on the evening.
- Eddie (8/5): Very good - It was good to get away from the busy side of the island , good swimming pool , we stayed on the hill side , nice big balcony had breakfast on the house boat , very relaxing sat there This place is remote you need a scooter , room is basic , no tv , with a hard double bed , this seems to be standard on my travels !
- Aurélie (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great. Thanks to our host that were very nice and helpful. We would have loved fresh fruits for breakfast
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandr (10/5): Will come back 100% - Amazing place. You are living on the water. You can fishing directly from your room - i was happy like a child. Excellent price for such conditions All was perfect
- Charlotte (10/5): Lovely, would recommend. The view would be hard to beat. - Stunning location, great pool, large room & balcony with fridge (we had deluxe apartment). Having seen on previous reviews about communication difficulties we disagree. Hosts worked hard to communicate and occasionally used google translate. We also communicated through booking.com messenger which worked well. Nothing was too much for them - they were lovely. We felt it was unclear whether breakfast was included as we assumed it was. Not a massive issue- slight miscommunication. If you have a car or a scooter, it is easy to get around.
- Gary (8/5): Great views,friendly staff, relaxing stay. -
- Evan (9/5): Amazing Bali-style hotel on water! - What an incredible experience staying at this hotel! The stunning view and sound of the sea waves make you fall in love with this place. Although it is a bit of a walk from the parking area, it adds to the authentic experience of that place.
The staff is very kind and hospitable. This place is located on the opposite side of the island from where all the events and parties are held. If you plan to stay for more than a few days, it is probably better to choose accommodation on the East Coast. Although the 40-minute ride through the amazing island scenery is enjoyable, it may become tedious if you have to take it every day.
It can be uncomfortable as the staff doesn't speak English and the water supply is unstable.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was extremely friendly and helpful!!
We were allowed to use the Kajak for free, and the tour the host recommended was amazing
!
We also got great tips for things to do around the island.
The view from the room was exceptional!
- Jacqueline (8/5): Aahh the serenity! - Very peaceful place. So tranquil if that's what you're after. No night clubs to keep you awake. Right on the water front. Lovely rooms with your own spacious waterfront deck.
The young Cambodian couple were delightful. So helpful and kind. Just a bit quiet for my length of stay. But if serenity is what you want then this place will be perfect!
- Alan (9/5): This small resort is fabulous for a quiet getaway - Fantastic quiet location
The staff were absolutely wonderful Nothing
- Kritanai (4/5): Disappointing - Nice view Air conditioner broken
- Roch (10/5): Absolute paradise - Wonderful staff, always happy to help and have a chat. Room and facilities are clean and comfortable. Little piece of paradise far from everything.
Perfect place to go with children or a romantic get away, plaisant pool area, free breakfast, snorkelling spots near by are fabulous. Aoy's cafe next door has delicious food. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable ❤️
- Camisassa (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, staff and location was great and peacefully
You can take the Kayak for free and explore the near islands or you can take a nice walk and go to one of nicest beach ever!! Totally recommend
- Ebrahim (4/5): We booked for 2 weeks, but ended up leaving several days earlier...with no refund. - If you want absolute peace and quiet with literally nothing to do then this is the place for you. Breakfast was only one item off the menu. Anything else you had to pay extra for.
The activities that are promised are non existing (no bicycles, no boat trip to the small island, swimming anywhere near the resort was not encouraged due to coral). If you wanted to swim at the island opposite where there is a small beach you would have to hire a small boat at THB 2500.
THE LOCATION OF THE RESORT AS ADVERTISED IS VERY MISLEADING. I confronted the owner regarding this and all she said was that she has requested it to be changed on the website, but it hasn't been done yet. Met a few guests who were also very disappointed with location.
Also there is no restaurant as advertised. There is a kitchen and breakfast is between 8 and 10 and you can order dinner between 7 and 9. Those are the only hours you can order.
Cleaning is done every 3rd day...if you remind them.
There is literally nothing to do and going exploring anywhere else will cost you quite a bit.
A day boat trip to the four islands cost THB 6000 from here. On the west side of the island the same trip costs THB 900. The west side of the island was definitely better in EVERY way.
- Tuija (6/5): Tuija - Tidy, big room (family room), beautiful pool area. But you have to have a motorbike, otherwhise there's not much to see or do. Spa there's not! Any spa services for exemple massage, neither any sun chairs at the pool area.
- Ivar (1/5): A terrible experience and a booking.com complaint filed. Very rare ! - Nothing at all Service, hospitality , room upgrading and hygiene
Dear hosts,
Kindly read my review of the hotel on Google maps and on booking.com.
I have alerted them to the problems regarding your service and lack
of hospitality, the incorrect description of the old building , the 20 percent climb up there and the
room with no view. And the lizard on the wall at night.
I hope this prompts you to further improves your service level .
Best regards,
Met vriendelijke groeten,
Ivar Brinkman
- ib2127 (2/5): A terrible experience - Dear hosts,
I have alerted booking.com to the many problems regarding your service and lack
of hospitality, The incorrect description of the old building and the
room with no view. Not to mention the lizard on the wall at night This is a rare experience for me in Thailand, and I have travelled for over 30 years.
I hope this prompts youth further improves your service level .
Best regards,
Met vriendelijke groeten,
Ivar Brinkman
- Thomas (10/5): Great getaway. - Beautiful location Inconvenience due remote location. Personal transport is a must..Nearest 7-11, 3.5 km away
- Donna (10/5): Lovely, quiet & peaceful tiny resort!! - Hidden gem far away from the touristy side of the island!! Wonderful staff too! Great communication too!! I had a little difficulty finding it yet it was getting dark when I arrived too!
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - I really enjoyed the area you see the real local life here! Far away from the noise of the party beaches. There are very nice stuff to see but you need to have your own scooter or a car to be able to get to some other places. The acommodation is clean and with a very nice view. But there is no beach easy to acess you need to use either a scooter or Kayak.
- Patrick (9/5): Peaceful loneliness - It's peaceful and quiet. Good coffee and breakfast. Near to long beach.
Be aware there is not much on this side of the island. But if you're fine with that and want quietness and not beeing to touristy. That's the place. You need a 1 hour taxi ride when you get dropped off at the most south pier coming from koh kood. Its about 1000 Baht. You may can push it down to 900.
From the ferry it's a 40-50min taxi ride. It's about 600 Baht.
- Claudio (1/5): Disappointing - booked one week but checked out after one day. refund refused by the hotel, difficult to reach, defective air conditioning, refrigerator not present, impossible to communicate with the staff.
- Luke (1/5): A Real Mixed Bag - Location is great if you want to be in the Salaphet baby area. Very quiet at night. No where to swim nearby, although there is a kayak to use for free. Spent two sleepless nights here. Air-conditioning unit was filthy, even after I cleaned the filters: doubt if the unit has ever received a deep clean. Whole resort felt uncared for (I stayed in the hillside part, not actually in the bay). There is a swimming pool, but no seating; and no one seems to sweep the area around the pool so just looked untidy and uninviting. Room itself was okay, but nothing to write home about.
- Julian (7/5): Superb water front location and views - Fabulous location on the pier at waterfront with stunning views. Good pool up the hill at other part of the resort. Note if u arrive by car it's several 100 meters to the hotel but they will bring a cart to collect bags if u call them. Toiletries limited with no shampoo
- Osterloh (9/5): Superb - - staff
- food
- quiet location - the food was excellent, but prepare to wait a long time for it - sometimes 1 hour - just so you can plan your day accordingly
- Paulo (8/5): Near paradise - The location it's amazing, but you need to drive a motorbike to move around. The time wasted for anything to be done. Very slow but everything so good
- Mango (8/5): Very good - Lovely peaceful resort. No music. Pool not maintenance daily.
- Colin (10/5): If you want to in a quiet place, with no kiss me quick bars and massage parlours this is the place. - Excellent choice of breakfast items, own table on patio outside room and breakfast served there. The restaurant in the evening made fresh amazing green curry and whole fish. Pool has great views over the sea. Nothing really
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Really good location. Great view across the bay from the hillside rooms. If you like natural scenery, quiet at night, this is the place
- Richard (10/5): A hidden gem with incredible views. - We loved everything about this resort. It's located in the south east of the island. It's a short walk from the main road, so there's no traffic noise. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. The rooms are very clean. The mattress is great. The swimming pool is very clean.
- Hohmann (10/5): Exceptional - Some rooms are directly on the water in a calm bay surrounded by little beautiful islands.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is quite and familiar. The food was also very nice. Everything is clean and i had a wonderful sleep!
- Olesksandra (10/5): Amazing - Amazing hotel for people who prefer calm rest. Great views, delicious food. The staff is great. The lady who is a manager of the hotel is always ready to help. A motorbike is available for rent.
- Jenna (9/5): Superb - The location is amazing if you want a truly relaxing stay. It really is stunning and the community are so welcome.
The food they serve is delicious and really good value for money. The staff are lovely. I love that you can just jump into the sea and have a swim The bed was really uncomfortable
Under the bed was really dusty
- PhilGordon208 (8/5): Pleasantly quiet with cooling breeze - Island View is built on the end of a long pier. The only things slightly blocking the lovely view of the island are a group of large yachts tied up prior to the main season sailings. The rooms face east taking in the islands. Each room has a small deck over the water. We chose the best room at the end which had a window facing north as well as the deck. With all the windows open and insect netting we had a fantastic sea breeze coming into our room all night....we never used the A/C!
The access to Island View pier is along a narrow track leading from a small collection of houses, shop and restaurants at the southern end of the east coast road....a dead end! There are a couple of nice fish restaurants and small guest houses in the “village” which were a nice change from eating in. The food at dinner was fine if lacking in spice though Su was an enthusiastic hostess.
Dieter was always on hand to offer suggestions for places to visit and motorbike or boat hire to get around easily. Going far on foot was a little hazardous due to a large gang of temple dogs which seemed a bit too aggressive even to a dog lover like me. The eastern side of Koh Chang is extremely quiet with no beaches to attract tourist numbers so it is a nice antidote to the busy west coast.
At the end of our stay we were taking the boat from Bang Bao to Koh Mak but didn’t realise that there was no road across the southern end of the island. Su organised a local fisherman to take us in his boat which took about 90 minutes. A very pleasant alternative to a long taxi journey right around the island.
We really enjoyed our stay at Island View and would recommend it without hesitation.
- globetrottingloner (10/5): Paradise for snorkeling and solitude - I reserved for two nights and extended one more night. I could have stayed a week
more.
Hotel is comfortable and going out to nearby beaches is a great pleasure.
Here are the details why I was so happy in this hotel.
1. The hotel has rooms on the jetty (on a hill as well). A room with a balcony facing the sea and islands is comfortable. There’s A/C. But you can keep sliding doors open with anti mosquito screen doors closed. Then you get a nice breeze at night.
2. The open air restaurant is a place you can relax day and night, watching boats go by ,swallows flying, fish jumping out of water!
Food is fresh and delicious. I had fried fish with sauce, steamed fish as well as a few kinds of curry. All of them highly recommended.
It is better to tell them what you would like to eat beforehand, including breakfast. Then the cook will prepare exactly the way you want and also saving time to wait.
3. I took a tour of 6 beaches by motorboat.
One island called “Koh Wai” pleased me most. It is a “Robinson Crusoe “type(photo attached).Extremely serene, white sands and corals attract colorful fish. There is a simple cafe-restaurant also.
So I went there again next day . It’s a snorkeling paradise. It turned out to be Sunday. So several boats arrived with tourists. They usually depart after one hour. Weekdays are much more quiet.
4. Last but not least, all the staff in the hotel are very pleasant and helpful.
The owner, Deter and Sue , are ready to accommodate you as much comfort as you require.
Deter gave me abundant information on available activities, such as going by kayak or jogging in the forest. We had plenty of time to chat and I enjoyed listening to his insight on Thai society as well as countries he had visited as a globetrotter.
One piece of advice.
This hotel does not accept credit cards.
Better to bring cash , especially Thai bahts. There’s no money exchange nearby.
In short, I recommend this hotel for people who would like to get a peace of mind in a serene environment. I am already planning to come back next year for a longer stay.
- derekjohnm (4/5): Avoid This Place - On checking in - we were greeted to a half naked German guy who could not find the key to our room, when we got to our room, it was old and out dated - the air con is very old and hot.
Eventually some guy came with the key to our room.
After I was coming back from dinner that night, as I walked towards the so called resort and spa I noticed the place was in total darkness, so I assumed we had a blackout only to be surprised that the German owner sitting in total darkness, I asked him why are the lights not on? , he answered - no need for lights - all the guests have left for the evening - I found the light switch to the hall way but as soon as I turned it on, he turned it off again, how rude. I had to use the light on my phone to get in to my room.
The next day I was going out to lunch and he said we have great food here, I said we are going out to eat, then he replied, if you are not eating here, no need to tell me about where you are going , more rudeness.
I was talking to a guest who did eat at Island View and he said he was waiting 30 - 45 minutes per dish.
Final straw he lost my bill and placed a beer on some other guests bill.
If you are driving a car - parking is far away from Island View and is public parking.
This guy has bad manners to paying guests.
I will never return.
His Thai wife was nice and friendly, that is about all the good I can give you about this place.
Avoid it.
- 566hildem (8/5): Low budget choice - Really dated and old. Terrible beds.. in the jungle, so it is dark and a lot of noise from the frogs and insects.
Clean and cheap, but no extras.. not even toilet paper..
The air condition was noisy, but worked.
Pluss for fridge!
Did not have breakfast, but would not eat there - it did not look inviting, and no one eat there.
Cheap to stay, and they cleaned every other day.
Towels were provided.
- jessamynm2018 (10/5): Peaceful, relaxing and also quite fun - My husband and I just got back from a week-long stay here and had an absolutely wonderful time. We stayed in the larger rooms up on the hill. Everything was clean and well cared for, the room was quite spacious, and we had a lovely view from the deck. We were just up from the pool and right behind us was a great little path for jogging (not that we ended up doing any jogging). Also, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the sauerkraut dinner. There was only one cook, and it took a bit of time, but was well worth the wait.
This is certainly a great place for those who are looking for quiet and are more interested in exploring the area than going out for a big night. The owner was extremely helpful about local sites to go and explore. We rented his small boat one day and putted around the islands, which was great fun.
In short, it was a perfect trip for us (and our dog, who came along for the ride). If you're looking for someplace to stay away from the crowds and hullabaloo of tourism, we'd highly recommend Island View Resort.
- P338QBroberto (8/5): Enjoyable stay - Just returned from a three week stay at the island view resort travelling as a couple.
The weather was perfect no rain in whole month we were away.
We stayed in a room over the water which we think is better than the one's up on the hill.
The rooms are very clean and perfectly adequate
This part of the island is quieter than the other side which suited us . We used the free cycles to get around locally ,and also used the free Kayak to go across to the island opposite where there's a very nice beach.
We ate there most nights ,the food is very good but quite slow in coming.
- flyingsquirrel85 (8/5): Away from the crowd - We had a great time staying on the east side of koh chang. The location is really quiet and nice to be away from all the crowds. It's possible to rent a scooter and explore this part of the island including the water falls and couple of nearby beaches. The nearest ATM is at least a 30 minute scooter journey. Food takes a very long time - order in advanced!
- KaroliinaAutere (10/5): Christmas in Ko Chang - Resort was very good for us, because we wanted to get away from touristy places. People who were staying at the resort were also after this, so it was good. Food was good. Kitchen is sloooow, but worth the wait. ;) You can kayak, swim, rent a scooter and visit other spots on the island. Owning couple and their daughter really like what they do and it shows. We had very good week here and we would recommend place to others.
- paulsgrant (8/5): Serene - Great stay in a very beautiful part of the world. The owner made us fell welcome and comfortable. Good facilities, a touch on the rustic side, fresh food cooked to order. Good prices, would stay again.
- rebeccaandpatrickc (10/5): A Sailors friend..and a true getaway from the touristy side of Koh Chang - First..I did not stay in a room here - I stayed on my own sailboat anchored off of this gentleman's dock, so I can not comment on the rooms. Although the people I met who were staying in rooms here were quite happy and the owner seemed to do everything possible to make them happy and comfortable. He is a nice older man who isnt really in it for the money...rather he enjoys what he is doing, and enjoys keeping things small and comfortable.
The owner is a true friend to sailors, and interesting to talk to. The food in the restaurant is tasty, and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. If I were coming to Koh Chang to get away from the crowds, I would most certainly put this hotel as my first choice for accommodations. The views are just so beautiful. And nearby to a few waterfalls, and hiking trails too! A nice place to come home to after a day of adventure.
- tanya2538 (10/5): The food was slow but worth waiting!!! - Friendly staffs and scrumptious food!!!! It was such a good decision staying there as located on the peaceful area. Reasonable prices with motorbike, kayak, and also bicycle. What we love is how you can pick up your drink and write down, then sum up everything later on when you check out! Ps.The view from my room made me wake up early every morning to see the sun rise!!! It was an amazing 6 nights we had.
- sem-man (8/5): Great accommodation food and service - The Island View Resort and Spa offered our family comfortable accommodation, amazing food, spectacular views, beautiful pool and the service went beyond expectations! We highly recommend staying at the Island View Resort and Spa.
- camillalizabangbangm (8/5): Hidden gem - This little hotel is located on the lesser developed east side of Koh Chang. The rooms are lovely and you can canoe to some pretty, solitude beaches. The food at the restaurant is amazing. Especially the deep fried fish with cashews and green mango sauce. Owners are super friendly and will help you to have an amazing trip.
- Bentun (8/5): Beautiful peaceful location away from the main tourism centres - Right at the end of the road to Salak Phet on a promenade out over the road is the small, friendly accommodation and restaurant, Island View. There are some additional apartments on the adjacent hillside, all with a superb island view.
The hillside rooms benefit from a small infinity pool with a view and slightly bigger rooms which are dual aspect, so better for a breeze at night if you prefer not to use air conditioning when it is hot.
The rooms by the sea are next to the restaurant and bar, but do not be put off by this as it is a small restaurant and not noisy, quite the opposite in fact, a very peaceful place. All the rooms have balconies with good views.
The most noise comes from small fishing boats sailing past now and again, the whole place is very tranquil and peaceful. The most irritating noise for me was a dripping pipe and the air conditioning at night, but that was nothing a pair of ear plugs couldn't fix.
The restaurant was only frequented by Island View guests during my stay and it served fantastic food. A variety of Thai dishes and western dishes. The food tastes as if it is all freshly prepared and cooked to order. Exquisite. For evening meals, if some tables have placed their orders ahead of you, factor in a 20-30 min wait per table for your meal. This is not a problem as you have wonderful surroundings to enjoy with a drink whilst your meal is being prepared or use the free Wi-Fi. We waited 90 minutes one evening, and some other guests we met waited the same time the subsequent evening. The food is terrific once it arrives. Breakfast is quicker and there's a good choice. Also tastes very good.
The location is remote, part of the charm. There are not many local amenities, so bring sufficient cash, snacks and suchlike. Over 2-3 days, there's plenty to do being based at Island View. They offer moped hire, free kayaks, which you can paddle to the island opposite on. There's a local skipper with a small boat that Island View will arrange which takes up to 4 people for a days boat trip around six local islands. It is a flat rate of 2,000 baht and comes highly recommended, providing some excellent snorkelling opportunities on some lovely coral reefs.
There are regular public taxis that depart from the hotel, so transport from the hotel is easy and cheap. 100 baht to the Koh Chang ferry at the north of the island, which takes about an hour to get to.
I only wish we had more time to stay a few more days at Island View.
- joshu2014 (10/5): Excellent! - We read all the reviews and proceeded with caution.
We met Deter, the German owner, and knew what people might have been talking about. Deter is set in his ways and is retired so he should be! (At least we think so) He took us around to show us the resort and let us know what we should expect and if we needed to adjust our expectations.
The resort is quite out there but we loved being away from the crowds. It was a bit pricy to get to any of the beaches (1200-2000B) but the resort's location made it worth it.
The food took a while to arrive but we quickly adjusted as "that's just the way it is" here and the food was delicious. The food is a bit overpriced compared to what you could get in town (150-300B average). With that said, we happily are here daily.
We rented scooters for a day and had no problems. The kayaks were in great shape and we even took a boat cruise around to see islands around the area. Deter was was very knowledgable and kind.
The owner seemed to get quite a bad reputation and I must say that our group was not upset by him at all. If you come with an easy-going attitude and understand that you're not at a 5-star resort you will have no issues with him whatsoever. He was very transparent, kind and attentive. As long as you are kind first, you will have no issues.
I will recommend this resort to anyone!
- nickiontours (8/5): Nice and lonely location - We've been there at "no season" with only one other couple, so I guess many things are a bit different in high season time.
The location itself is split up in two spots. The first rooms are in the forest, in the mountains, some meters away from the water. The seconds are on the water, on sticks, where the restaurant is as well.
We spent our time on the second one.
The rooms are simple but clean, the furniture could be better (some are swollen). The view outside is very beautiful and you can see the fishers go to work!
The hotel offers free kayaks, so you could paddle around the bay. This is cool! For only 250THB you can rent a scooter which I do really recommend.
The German is very friendly and took a lot of time to explain and show things. The woman at the restaurant is very friendly too and tried all her best to make us very yummy food.
The only bad point is the price, for no season it's still 30€/1.200THB a night and no breakfast included, room cleaning is on demand.
Hint for all who are afraid of snakes: don't stay in the forest rooms, there are some green snakes hanging in the trees!
- phil343 (10/5): wonderful - This resort is very peaceful and in a beautiful setting. The small amount of staff are friendly and do their utmost to give you a great stay. The food is delicious. Take advantage of the free canoe.
Not sure why some reviews complain about the german guy who helps run the resort, he is kind and helpful.
Five stars.
The WIFI is remarkable good for such a remote location!!
- 596julienj (10/5): Very well trip there: quiet, tasty, kind, sporting ! - Very nice resort, with the view of the sea ! Great cuisine, people are very kind and take care of the guests. You can borrow for free kayak and bicycles ! Many advices about what to do: hiking, kayaking, sun bath, island sightseeing, mangrove forest visit,...according of the weather ! And german cuisine is also very good (to alternate with Thai cuisine ;-) Rooms are nice and clean.
