- Mindy (9/5): Great - Beautiful
- Michelle (8/5): A very well-run ryokan that is intended for tourism, and also accommodates vegetarians. - I loved the location because it was way off the beaten path and I could wander for miles without a tourist in site. I wanted something different and authentic, and this location provided that. My favorite part of this entire place was the little enchanting forest trail of the seven lucky stone deities (Shichifukujin) just on the edge of the property. The grounds were very charming with the little benches and covered sitting areas scattered throughout to just sit and enjoy nature in a field of wildflowers with a magnificent view of Mt Ontake. As for the ryokan itself, I appreciated the hospitality, the elegance, and the comfort. They accommodated my request for vegetarian meals, and the head chef even reached out beforehand to make sure I did not eat dashi (fish flakes, fish broth) which is rare because most places I've been to in Japan insist on using dashi even if you ask for vegetarian meals. The chefs went to great lengths to accommodate me as a vegetarian, and the meals were very creative and tasty. This is a very well-run ryokan that is intended for tourism, and they treat their guests with great care. The hours of the sento/onsen were from 6pm until 9am. It was closed from 9am until 6pm: all day. This was disappointing to me because the baths were a huge reason for choosing this ryokan. I expected it to be closed for a couple of hours for cleaning as most sento/onsen are, not all day. The snack bar (free drinks and light snacks) was also closed until 3pm which felt odd but I suppose the message is that they are not providing lunch. This place is designed for people to leave for the day and return at night. It's a ghost town during the day, which isn't such a bad thing but I purposefully chose this location to just rest, and the closed hours didn't align with that because I felt a little out of place to still be on the grounds during the day. For meals, the length of each meal was much longer than I expected, but I understand that was because I required vegetarian meals and it took much longer to prepare them. I was first to arrive and usually last to leave, and it didn't matter how quickly I ate. All in all, meals took up to 4-5 hours of my day combined which was unexpected. The flavor was hit or miss, sometimes delicious (pictured) and sometimes bland, and there were far too many vegetables for my stomach to handle, but I believe this was because they went to great lengths to adjust to my no-dashi vegetarianism which took more time and effort.

- Arnaud (10/5): -
- Franchi (1/5): Overpriced and disappointing — not worth the money - Only 1 thing: View on Mt Ontake Cena buona però non vale 337€. suggerimento: preferirei venisse scorporato prezzo del pernotto ed eventuale cena che ha comunque per la qualità dei prodotti e li pegno degli chef ha un certo costo però nelle vicinanze ci sono anche ristoranti o altre opzioni.
L’esterno è completamente trasandato, l’era era secchissima.
- Mahtab (10/5): We were amazed by how hospitable and friendly the staff were. The hotel has amazing chefs who serve some of the highest - Clean and astonishing views. Super friendly staff and wonderful meals. There is nothing to not like
- VarnBuhler (10/5): -
- Juliana (9/5): - The service, the meals, the staffs, the view. Nothing
- Harell (6/5): - Food was good and the table service was great.
Lobby and picnic lounge was pleasant with a very nice view. We were charged 6000 yen for a 2 hour early check-in, seems very steep as the room was already empty and clean at that time...
Decor was very outdated, beds were uncomfortable.
Hotel garden needs tending to... for the price paid we expected more...
- stephanie (9/5): Good once we finally found it by asking for help at the petrol station - The room and the cuisine Near impossible to find by car with satnav as wrongly directed us to roped off track off main road. No signage recognisable to a non Japanese soeaker.
Unable to reply to emai sent by the hotel to me. “Address unknown”.
- Helen (10/5): Sublime Ryokan in the Kiso Valley - Everything! Location in the beautiful Kiso valley with our views of Mt. Ontake from our room, the gorgeous, atmospheric onsen, sublime food and the helpful and wonderful staff. We had the most amazing stay. Thank you so much. Nothing
- Erik (10/5): - Alles was geweldig.
Wat een plek en wat een rust.
- Jennie (10/5): -
- Francisco (9/5): Perfect place to enjoy the valleys and Japanese cousine. - Incredible Ryokan in the middle of the Kiso Valley. Very nice staff and services, to help you get to the train and move around the area with ease. The restaurant is top class, perfect to enjoy real Japanese cuisine. Nothing, really.
- Deborah Ignacia (10/5): Excellent stay - Kiso countryside with great view of Mt. Ontake. Rooms were spacious and amenities were clean. Very quiet and peaceful.
- Mathis (10/5): -
- Stefanos (10/5): -
- Daisy (10/5): - Phenominal service. A beautiful location that would be appealing all year round.
Nada.
- Julian (10/5): - This is the full package, hot springs, beautiful mountain views, and delicious food. From the moment you get there the staff takes care of your needs and give your the experience of a lifetime!
- Lauren (10/5): Nothing like it. Stunning view, amazing team, Michelin like food. Book it. Right now! - Nothing like it. Stunning view, amazing team, Michelin like food. Book it. Right now!
- Sarah (10/5): - It was stunning. Beautiful views, nice staff and excellent food Nothing. Maybe a little out of the way from key activities but that’s 20 min drive
- Carlo Martin (8/5): Very nice hotel. Good food. Nice staff. Onsen is superb. - Very nice hotel with traditional Japanese design, with use of all natural timber materials including their Onsen facilities. Lovely view. Very accommodating staff. Food is of very good quality and beautifully presented. Onsen experience is superb. Their family room for 6 is a bit tight in space.
- Yee Wah (10/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): -
- Man Yee Kara (7/5): Great food beautiful people and nice surroundings scenic. the room cleanings need improvement. - The overall environment and the friendly staffs as well as the delicious food. The toilet and the area between the beds were not clean enough, water marks from the previous stays in the bathroom, dusty and hair between the beds I have to clean.
- Hélène (9/5): Great place to unwind! - The outdoor baths, the surroundings, the meal. A little far from Kiso-Fukushima for a one-night stay. Would recommend staying at least two nights to have time to explore the surroundings.
- Ora (10/5): Perfect High quality hotel - Total all
- Denise (10/5): Luxurious Ryokan in convenient and peaceful setting. - Serene beautiful property. Walk right out to Deer Park and Todai-Ji Shrine with Great Buddha Hall.
- Theo (9/5): -
- Rose-Marie (9/5): A traditional well run hotel with exceptional staff. - Excellent staff. Lovely food. Take a huge amount of care over their guests. Very efficient and communicative by email. Rooms very large.
About 25 mins drive from main Kiso station but offer complementary shuttle service at set times of the day (1 in the am and 2 in the pm). Need to allow a little extra time for your activities.
- Christopher (9/5): -

- Erika (10/5): Love kazari - Loved it here! Look forward to returning some day with family
- Yelizaveta (10/5): Amazingly beautiful hotel in Japanese alps, conveniently located especially if you travel by car, food is delicious and - Everything, the hotel itself is beautiful, the surrounding area is very picturesque and quiet. The food is managing and the staff is extremely nice and polite.
One of the best hotels I stayed at.
- rinat (9/5): -
- Crystal (10/5): -
Nichts
- Max (9/5): -
- Jacco (10/5): Little piece of heaven - After thinking you made a wrong turn you arrive in this little piece of paradise: beautiful location, great rooms and onsen, amazing food. Absolutely nothing not to like
- Tania (10/5): Een absolute aanrader - Het typische Japanse gevoel en ervaring. Eten was fantastisch! Niets
- Aditya (9/5): - The food and the hospitality.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (9/5): Very spoiling and unique traditional ryokan experience to be highly recommended - The staff were top notch, taking care of our every whim. The views of the volcano were fantastic and the surrounds were extremely green and peaceful. We appreciated the access to free drinks and snacks in the communal lounge area. The dinners and breakfasts were absolutely phenomenal with picture-perfect presentation and a huge amount of variety. Our room with a hot tub was large and very comfortable and we enjoyed the practice of using the gowns and pyjamas provided. The onsen was very quiet and so serene and peaceful. We enjoyed hiring bikes on site and exploring the local area, especially the nearby gelateria 😊 The shuttle to and from Kiso-Fukushima was incredibly helpful and we really LOVED the walk from Magome to Tsumago - a trip highlight! The external maintenance of the building needs some attention and the garden was somewhat neglected. Also, while the food was amazing, there was often too much of it and, sadly, we felt unable to do it justice.
- Clifton (10/5): Great stay - We loved everything, the location, the views, the food, the room and the staff
- Ilya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): An authentic experience of Kiso hospitality in a unique setting - Beautiful location, great rooms and amazing food. The staff were all super helpful and the overall experience excellent. N/A
- Lily (10/5): Wow - Beautiful luxury and very unik hotel
- E. (8/5): Very good -
- Ella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (10/5): A totally relaxing and wonderful experience of Japanese food served beautifully. The gardens and surrounding lanscape wa - Beautiful location with very attentive staff. Comfortable lounge area and the food was exceptional. The outdoor bath was constantly full of lovely hot water so we could enjoy at any time. There was nothing we didn’t like!
- Veso (10/5): Exceptional - Great view and position on a picturesque place. The onsen was very, very nice, staff are kind. Breakfast and lunch are top quality set menus, with top presentation - well worth adding them, especially given that there isn't anything around walking distance. Great 5 star experience for a relaxing day in nature.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Linda (7/5): Good -
- Krista (8/5): Comfortable stay with wonderful view of Mt Ontake - Food was delicious and the staff were very kind and welcoming.
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lara (10/5): We enjoyed a winter wonderland stay with all our needs met and exceeded - Beautiful setting; lovely accommodation with wonderful facilities. The staff are very helpful and attentive. Delicious and plentiful traditional Japanese cuisine.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Perfect. Just perfect. - The place was all class. The architectural beauty was unmatched by any hotel I stayed at in Japan. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They did not always get it right but by golly, they got everything right all in all.
The food was exemplary and the onsen was good. I plan to go back. There was nothing I did not like - except the coffee sadly. Australians seem to do coffee very well but the Asians are not quite as good at it. No complaints however since it was reasonable coffee and the whole time there was just perfect.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edmund (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (8/5): Beautiful location in nature - The location was beautiful and calming, set as it was in nature. The staff were highly attentive at all times. It would benefit from an update and refresh in places, but this is a very small point.
- Mf (9/5): Quiet, peaceful ryokan - Clean and spacious room, excellent service, kind staff, lovely kaiseki dinners. Location needs a car
- Lei (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (10/5): A traditional Japanese ryokan with amazing Onsen, good and attentive staff. - Peaceful surroundings with traditional Japanese accommodations and meals.
Staff was excellent.
Onsen was spectacular. Explanations of food would have been appreciated, since everything was so different.
- Jazmine (10/5): Amazing view and baths - Food was absolutely amazing, catered to my vegan diet, my waiter was extremely friendly and hospitible. Room had a breathtaking view of the mountain. Free picnic supplies in the common area, amazing bathing area. Helped me get a ride to the station in the morning, but I had to pay for it There were some very loud guests staying the same night, there is a shared facility room with unlimited beer and wine they were taking advantage of. There is only one shuttle only taking you back to kisofukushima at 9AM had to pay to get a ride into town (about 20m) in the morning to leave before 9AM.
- Ruth (10/5): Unbelievable - Stunning fit out . Rooms and private onsen superb . Staff fantastic. Food unreal. 100/10 at least! Having to leave it.
- Joanne (9/5): Delicious food, great service hotel - Staff were very polite and helpful, hotel lobby has free refreshment (including draft beer and wine) and snack station, a rare scene.
I got a tatami bed arrangement, the room was big and i like that the wc and shower room are separated.
Both dinner and breakfast were sumptuous and delicious, with chef moved from one table to another to prepare a dish for guests. Another interesting feature.
The onsen area has both indoor and outdoor pools, good experience.
Overall a rather good standard hotel that provides excellent services. Hotel location is quite out of the way, and the GPS via phone number didn't provide accurate route to the hotel. Had to use google map from the main road.
- Joh (10/5): Well worth the effort to get there and I would recommend it to everyone. - The location is stunningly beautiful and peacefully quiet. The food is exceptional and the staff were attentive. If you want a real Japanese experience this is the place. I highly recommend.
- Adriel (10/5): Exceptional experience! - Everything! The staff, the atmosphere, the rooms, the onsen and the amazing views and surroundings. Also, the exceptional food during dinner and breakfast. This is the perfect Japanese getaway. We loved everything about this place.
- Rebecca (8/5): Wonderful dinner - Nice countryside and excellent dinner. Kind staff. Grounds full of blueberry bushes.
Good onsen Difficult to arrange transportation. Taxis unwilling to come. There is a hotel shuttle bus, but the times didn’t suit us.
- Yvonne (7/5): Beautiful surroundings and view of Mt Ontake - This Ryokan is set in a beautiful location looking across to Mt Ontake. It is in large park-like grounds. Having said that, it is also very expensive. The rooms were spacious and well-appointed and the meals were of a very high standard (as were all meals we had at Ryokans). The shuttle service worked well for doing the Nakasendo Trail. The onsen had some outdoor pools and was very pleasant although no-one else used it when I was there. We had one hiccup which you wouldn't expect from a place of this calibre. I had notified them that one of our group required gluten-free meals and they confirmed this but then said they were not aware of the requirement. It was worked out in the end.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb -
- Marian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Desmond (9/5): Superb -
- Shai (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place, incredible onsen, super friendly staff and delicious food! Nothing
- Julian (6/5): Rather expensive for what is quite a Spartan hotel. - Quiet location. Lovely onsen , clean Rather soulless and the outside gardens and estate seemed rather neglected
- Arthur (10/5): Traditional ryokan, delicious meal and sublime scenery. A must go in the kiso valley. - The meal was just incredible. Each meal is special, with many local and seasonal ingredients. This gives a proper traditional Japanese meal experience in my opinion, with plenty different textures and tastes. The scenery is breathtaking, with Mt. Ontake. There are free drinks available in the lounge, and the onsen is really big, with two outside baths. The staff is really nice and can speak decent english. I would say the price is a bit high.
- Tony (9/5): Superb - Lovely public areas and general setting. Food was exceptional and managed to be very appealing to western tastes while still being very Japanese. Free bikes were good, if in need of some rejuvenation. The music box in the lounge got annoying after a couple of cycles but we managed to turn it off. We arrived around 1 pm but could not check in early despite the hotel being almost empty. These were minor and we enjoyed the stay very much.
- Miccolis (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was excellent, the rooms were great, the facility was beautiful. I loved my stay.
- Yvonne (10/5): What a special stay - I was kindly greeted and picked up by the shuttle bus. The welcome was genuine and pleasant. We received tea and other beverages and treats in the lounge. As a welcome we were offered a special cake. The Onsen had inside pools and outside baths. What a wonderful time to relax and refresh after the hikes. The dinner experience was amazing, so many delicious dishes all explained by kind staff. The room was very comfortable, quiet and a wonderful view over the meadow and the mountains. The breakfast was equally plentiful and so delicious. I highly recommend this wonderful resort.
- Kerrie (9/5): It’s out of town but the location, the accommodation and the food was worth staying here. - The food, our room with outdoor bath and the public onsen was fantastic. The grounds outside could have been better maintained. Not sure if that was due to weather/time of year or just needed some extra attention.
- Claire (10/5): Best ever stay - This is the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in the world. The food was great like Michelin class and the service was neat and attentive. The onsen quality was good and outdoor bath facing the mountain with snow on top of the hills was really something you can only have in your dream. I truly feel this is a 10 star hotel. Bed and pillow a bit hard.
- Iris (9/5): Superb -
- Eunsook (10/5): Great stay - Included dinner & breakfast were excellent. It's 20 minutes from Kiso-fukushima station, but they have shuttle service. 3:30pm or 5pm from train station to the ryokan. 9:30am from the ryokan to train station (there's only one shuttle service in the morning). You need to arrange shuttle service before you arrive. It's surrounded by beautiful mountains. I would stay again if I come back to Kiso-fukushima. It would be better if dining room is more private.
- Khing (8/5): Very good - Service, spotless room and facilities The view and surrounding landscape are at best above average. Nothing spectacular, but not too bad either.
- Robert (10/5): A top quality Ryokan that cares for all your needs. Onsen also exceptional. - Superb accommodation, and superb banquet food. Something for everyone especially if you like raw fish and sushi. Nothing
- Melissa (9/5): Authentic japanese - Amazing calm location, friendly staff, delicious dinner Breakfast is quite early with limited options for Western style
Would have been great to have a sauna and some flexibility with dinner and breakfast times
