• Holly (5/5): Nice but not worth the travel for one night stay - Lovely surroundings in the temple and spacious room. We felt we didn't get much interaction with the monks. We went there because we wanted to learn about their way of life and the only interaction we had was them showing us to our room and the fire ceremony. The meals were served and everyone was whispering so it created a bit of an awkward atmosphere where we felt we weren't allowed to talk. We travelled for a while to get to this place which is not that accessible on public transport and overall we did not feel that it was worth coming all that way for one night when we did not learn anything about their way of life there.

• PerkyNomad (10/5): Enchanting temple stay with beautiful food - I loved the stay, it was enchanting. I loved the walk up which was along steep paths lined with lanterns and festooned with banners. (If you come by car/taxi you can drive up to the top). And at night, with all the lanterns lit, the temple buildings, gardens & views of the stars & the city sparkling in the distance, it was magical. I loved that guests are greeted with a cup of tea & a twist of tiny, delicious chocolate leaves on arrival. The rooms are very spacious and calm, and the vegetarian food was beautifully presented & elegant. It is well worth getting up at 5 am for the goma fire ceremony. Be aware that for meals & ceremonies, you need to sit cross legged or kneeling on a flat cushion on the floor for extended periods. I was disappointed that the sutra copying & Buddha drawing class wasn't available.

• Aurelio (7/5): Goshuin mágico en Templo Principal - Nos encantó la habitación, una suite al final de un pasillo grande y tranquila. Cómo va muy poca gente es fantástico para quien quiere evitar multitudes. El hombre que atienda la tienda del Templo principal es excepcional, cero actitud de venta innecesaria, paciente y sereno. Un ejemplo de vender sin vender. Compramos ahí un libro para registrar nuestras visitas a los templos y antes del desayuno nos lo llevó directo a la habitación en nuestro alojamiento y con un precioso Goshuin. Fue un detalle fantástico y mágico. El hotel no tiene calefacción en los pasillos, había llovido y estaba muy frío. Por los precios que cobran es un detalle negativo no tener calefacción en todo el lugar. Muy enfocados en la venta de servicios en el check in. Se supone que es un santuario, un lugar de meditación y reflexión, pero tiene bastante consumo de merchandising.

We felt taken advantage of by the monks. From the very beginning, they kept offering extra services with “suggested donations” at high prices for almost every activity (for example, meditating with them). • jose antonio (9/5): Curiosa experiencia en un lugar preparado para el retiro de meditación - Lo curioso era la experiencia de dormir sobre tatami en un alojamiento religioso. Disfrutar de cena y desayunos tradicionales. Y la posibilidad de acudir a ceremonias. Muy amables los monjes con los que tuvimos la ocasión de interactuar. No recuerdo nada que no fuese de nuestro agrado. Aunque ya lo sabíamos al reservar, es cierto que hubiésemos preferido baño y lavabo en el interior de la habitación y no compartido como es en este alojamiento. Me habría gustado más interacción con los monjes para poder preguntar sobre una religión y costumbres tan desconocidas para mi.
• vanessa (9/5): Um lugar m - o templo como um todo e inc rivel, a experiencia de dormir e um templo como esse é com certeza algo que muda algo dentro de nos. superou nossas expectativas e todos foram extremamente corteses e solicitos o estabelecimento é enorme, e na maior parte dele nao tem calefação entao é extremamente frio, as torneiras dos banheiros nao tem agua quente também e sao congelantes. ficamos no final de março onde as temperaturas sao bem mais amenas e passamos muito frio.... não consigo imaginar como deve ser passar o inverno. entendo que domrir em futons no chão é uma questao dee costume, mas para quem nao esta acostumado pode ser bem dificil, o oque foi nosso caso, mas isso nos ja esperavamos.

• Inmaculada (10/5): Estancia relajante recomendable 100% - La estancia en medio de la naturaleza es muy confortable y te hace desconectar y conectar contigo. El templo es simplemente mágico, llegamos al atardecer y paseamos de noche con los cientos de faroles iluminados y es espectacular. Dormir en una cama con futones es una experiencia muy japonesa. Los baños son compartidos pero están genial y súper limpios. Para ducharte debes bajar al sótano donde está el onsen, que es muy tradicional. La experiencia de la ceremonia del fuego es algo por lo que merece la pena hospedarse aquí, es mágica, increíble, profunda y totalmente recomendable. Recomiendo reservar cena, es diversa, en mini cuencos y es llamativa, porque estás en un salón con mucha gente, tranquilos, en silencio y es una experiencia muy relajante. Recomiendo incluir una estancia aquí en tu viaje a Japón, sin dudarlo. Además, no es complicado llegar. Hay un autobús que te deja a 300 metros y nosotros fuimos con maleta de ruedas y sin problema. Lo malo es el horario del onsen que es de 5pm a 10pm, por lo tanto, por la mañana no puedes ducharte para comenzar el día. El desayuno no es muy bueno.
• Diana (10/5): A temple to rest your soul - It was beautiful, peaceful and spiritual. The grounds are just breathtaking. If you want to rest your soul and mind, this is the place to stay. Sleeping on the futon was a little uncomfortable but I should have added more futons (they provide plenty of them). The public bath & shared showers were spotless. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, they observed my dietary restrictions, but portions were a little small (this is a temple, so it was expected). They were very helpful and kind and even called a taxi for us when we were leaving. Their website is challenging to try to make reservations from overseas. The easiest way is to do it through Booking.com.

• Mathieu (10/5): Staying in a scenic monastery was a unique experience - Staying in a monastery was a unique experience, the place itself is beautiful and scenic, deep in the mountain with dozens of shrines/temples around as well as walking paths, and has a very particular vibe as monks also live there. They will let you attend a few (very) early morning praying ceremonies if you want and pray alongside them. The place offers indoor hot spring. The dining/breakfast experience is correct overall - and very traditional (expect to sit on the floor while eating). No private bathroom, toilet and sink in the room. Shared ones are very near though.

Estuvimos muy cómodas y disfrutamos de nuestra noche aquí. Tanto la cena como el desayuno estaba riquísimo. Fue una de nuestras mejores experiencias de nuestro viaje a Japón y repetiríamos sin lugar a dudas. Nada, todo fue genial.

• Amélie (10/5): Très bonne expérience immersive, on recommande ! - En immersion totale durant le séjour. Site environnant très impressionnant ! Nous avons beaucoup apprécié la cérémonie du feu le matin. La chambre était également très confortable (meilleur futon de notre voyage) avec le nécessaire pour une nuit. Les douches sont uniquement communes (onsens) avec des horaires pour les hommes (matin et soir) et les femmes (le soir). Nous avons trouvé la localisation assez facilement. On recommande évidemment de venir plutôt léger car il y a quelques escaliers avant d'accéder au temple (éviter les grosses valises ou laisser les dans un locker de gare). Depuis la gare d'Osaka, nous avons pris un train JR + un bus (une heure de trajet en tout) pour arriver sur le site.

Los monjes que reciben y hacen la atención al personal son muy amables. Las habitaciones son muy amplias, al estilo tradicional japonés, así como las camas tipo futón. Cena y desayuno buenísimos, cantidad más que razonable. Pequeños platos muy bien elaborados. No te quedas con hambre. La ceremonia del fuego de madrugada valió la pena, aunque limitaría el número de visitantes.

• Aaron (8/5): - The aspect of staying in a Buddhist temple to someone from the USA is definitely unique. It was interesting to do. The food was delicious. The room situation was weird, we had to buy 2 single rooms because double rooms were not available during booking. However, one of our single rooms was literally 2 rooms and likely was designed to be a double room. The smaller single room also abutted another single room (like connected "doors"/screens) so this could have been a double room too. Also of note, on booking there were no rooms available, but they clearly had plenty of rooms available. Communication could have been better. 1. Via booking messages I requested the vegetarian meal and to be setup with the tracing the buddha. Neither of these requests was made. I did not ask them to accommodate the vegetarian meal because I did not care that much. I did ask for the tracing of the buddha and they could not do it that evening but in the morning. I am not sure they even remembered in the morning as when we were leaving was the time we were supposed to do it but no one was there to meet us. 2. When first checking in, we arrived right after another couple. He was trying to work with both of us at the same time and they should probably have a separate sitting area because it didn't go well. We were told that the fire ceremony was happening at the main hall and he pointed to it on the map, however I think he was thinking of the other couple because they paid extra for a ceremony happening in the main hall after the fire ceremony. We went to the main hall 10 minutes early and were able to at least communicate that we were in the wrong place but they weren't sure where we were supposed to go. We ran around trying to find where to go and never found it until we came back to the entrance of the building where you check in. The fire ceremony was literally 10 steps from the entrance. There is no way we got confused during checkin because we didn't pay for the other ceremony. As we arrived so late for the fire ceremony we sat behind the buddhist priest performing it, therefore we literally saw nothing. For non-believers it was quite boring not being able to see anything. I am sure it would have been great if we had seen something. I know it was not intentional and it wasn't even a language barrier, but this place is out of the way and the fire ceremony was the main reason this place was chosen. Therefore I felt like it wasted an entire 2 days of our travel. Perhaps a more detailed map of the events could be provided.

• Annegret (10/5): Unique experience - We so much enjoyed our time at this temple - the scenic look of this mountaineous area, an extensive temple area, the symbol of the tiger in a few corners, just a very serene atmosphere. Getting there by public transport was not a problem (bus from Oji station, well signposted). We were greeted at the reception and then could move into our Japanese style tatami rooms. Toilets and bath are shared which were meticously clean. The dinner and breakfast were amazing. Attending the goma fire ritual very early in the morning felt so special. nothing

• NATALIA (10/5): Muy buena - El templo y el sitio es precioso, la habitación muy espaciosa, la comida muy bien. Personal muy amable. Para una noche y vivir la experiencia lo recomiendo al 100%. No es que no me gustara, pero hay que saber que hay dos rituales del fuego, y el segundo hay que pagar si quieres asistir. También el horario de los buses que te suben hasta allí no es muy amplio, así que hay que mirar los horarios.

Les repas végétariens étaient très bons et traditionnels. Nous avons été ravis de pouvoir assister à une cérémonie matinale. Difficile d'accès avec une valise car il y a de nombreux escaliers, mais un taxi a pu nous déposer juste en face. Onsen fermé le matin.

Los monjes son muy atentos, está todo impecable, y la comida es de buena calidad. Las almohadas eran bastante duras y el desayuno no no nos convenció.

Los monjes te tratan muy bien. La cama de la habitación se me hizo un poco dura, pero aceptable. Cuando hicimos el check out, no checamos los horarios del camión (que pasa pocas veces al día) y acababa de irse, por lo que nos tuvimos que regresar caminando por un sendero abandonado. Recuerden checar a que hora pasa el camión para que no sufran con este detalle.

Hicimos un taller de caligrafía que básicamente fue pintar sobre un papel impreso solos en una habitación, sin instrucciones ni acompañamiento. • Franck (10/5): Un doux moment empreint de sérénité et de découverte des lieux. - Une formidable expérience, un lieu unique et le calme d'un temple bouddhiste. Certes l'accès est compliqué et nécessite de s'organiser en amont, mais le séjour restera dans nos mémoires. Nous avons aimé la déambulation à la tombée du jour dans les allées du monastère, à la lueur des lanternes et l'atmosphère de recueillement tout au long du parcours. Les repas typiquement japonais sont délicieux et variés (prévoyez de manger salé au petit déjeuner). Les onsens séparés sont accessibles jusqu'à une certaine heure, mais ce n'est pas une contrainte. Un conseil : laissez votre gros bagage dans les casiers des gares de Kyoto ou de Nara. Un petit sac à dos suffit pour ce cour mais intense séjour. La cérémonie du feu puis le petit déjeuner ouvre la journée du monastère, il ne restera plus qu'à grimper à travers la forêt de torri pour découvrir la région et reprendre le chemin du retour vers la gare d'Oji. Un conseil, ne vous privez pas ce ces moments. L'accès...mais c'est aussi pour ça que l'on vient ici. La cérémonie du feu pour laquelle nous étions un peu trop nombreux à mon sens.

• Alex Carmona Agudo (9/5): Experiencia diferente muy recomendada. - Experiencia diferente para vivir la otra cara de Japón, más tradicional y religiosa. 100% recomendado si quieres salirte de lo convencional. La comida y el desayuno no eran de nuestro gusto, pero ya lo esperábamos y forma parte de la experiencia.

• rod.mendieta (10/5): Gran experiencia en templo budista. - Las habitaciones son muy grandes y con tatamis en todo el hotel en general muy bien cuidados. El desayuno y la experiencia budista en el templo es muy interesante e introspectiva. El onsen es pequeño pero muy limpio y relajante. Tienes que saber que estas en un templo, no en un resort vacacional. Hay una hora especifica para el desayuno y toque de queda para las puertas. Si no estás listo para cumplir con los horarios o eres muy quisquilloso con la comida o dormir en futones tal vez no es la mejor experiencia para ti.

• María Begoña (8/5): - La experiencia fue buena. Las instalaciones son bonitas, rodeadas de templos. Me pareció incómodo dormir en el tatami y tener baños comunitarios, sin la opción de duchas por la mañana. Pero es algo que ya sabía antes de ir. Como experiencia es buena, pero no repetiría. Cena y desayuno muy austeros.

• Sarapont (8/5): Ottima esperienza in tempio - Esperienza molto carina dentro un monastero nei prezzi di Osaka/Nara. Consiglio di fare la doppia esperienza della prima preghiera alle 5.15 e la seconda alle 6.15. Cena e colazione incluse nella mezza pensione buone. Bagni in comune puliti. Purtroppo non ci sono docce se non nell'onsen. Futon e Cusino scomodi per chi non è abituato, ma è parte dell'esperienza!
