- phyllis (7/5): - Nice staff and goof food. Nice rooftop Onsen. Did not realize we were on the main street. The property is a little tired. Expensive.

- Judy (10/5): Excellent value with extremely comfortable and spacious stay. Great food, staff all around five star - Amazing place. I would highly recommend it There’s nothing I didn’t like
- Julianne (10/5): -
- mona (9/5): great food and nice simple onsen - food was fantastic nothing
- Mary New Zealand (10/5): Excellent central location with very good facilities - We stayed here for one night but could have stayed longer. The room was large and spacious with futon beds, a seating area, table and chairs, tea and coffee. The hotel onsen on the 4th floor was lovely. There are comfortable seating areas and lounges on the ground floor near reception, and also a restaurant for breakfast and evening meals - reservation is required.
The location was very central for walking in the old town and to the numerous restaurants nearby.
Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful with local advice. We would love to stay here again thank you. Nothing
- Christopher (6/5): At its peak in the 80s - Delicious food breakfast and dinner. Very clean rooms. Booked this stay for an onsen experience and on this front it was disappointing - the wood was rotting on the walls in the indoor bath area, and outside was far from relaxing with the constant sounds of diesel generators going.

- Alisa (10/5): - Sehr authentisches Ryokan.
(10/5): - The town is lovely, everything was welcoming, clean. Rooms more spacious than anticipated.
- Alisson (10/5): Staff were very kind and attentive. facilities are beautiful and well looked after and location was great - Very traditional clean and good location

- Craig (9/5): - Staff was very kind and welcoming. Room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious. The onsen was fantastic after a long day of hiking Nakasendo and they allowed me to use it even though I'm heavily tattooed. I wish I had more time to enjoy it. Coffee was slightly pricey but delicious. Definitely recommend!

- Jacqueline (8/5): Great location in the heart of the old town. Public bath, spacious rooms, incredible view. - Really gorgeous local hotel. Lovely staff, I arrived early and staff took my bags so I could walk without carrying them. The room was large, and clean. I was there over close down period so no where to buy food but staff guided me to 7/11 which was great. Excellent breakfast and really wonderful staff.

- Etsuyo (10/5): -
- Alexandra (8/5): - Bien Un peu vieillissant. Lumière un peu dure.
- Frank (9/5): Traditional Japanese experience - Hot spring/onsen was good - nobody else was there in late evening. They had two baths - one inside and one outside. Breakfast had good variety - Japanese style. Room was traditional Japanese. Staff were very helpful to help us organise the luggage transfer service to our next accommodation. doorways are low - but this seems normal in Japan. Watch your head if you are anything above 1.8m
- Vanessa (9/5): We loved it! An amazing traditional Japanese experience. - Fantastic service. Great location. Breakfasts and dinner were tasty, varied and beautifully presented. We also enjoyed the onsen experience.
- Ashlee (8/5): The food is great as is the staff - Easy to get to A little dated
- Josie (8/5): Comfy beds! - Brilliant location in the Kiso valley. Nice onsen with an outdoor onsen pool. Friendly staff and lots of fantastic cafes and restaurants very close by.
- John (8/5): Good base for Nakasendo trekking - Stayed here as base for Nakasendo walking over 4 days. Breakfast and Dinner included - and though they put a lot of effort into both - our night out at Izakaya was more to our western tastes (can only eat so many mushrooms). Spa ok and room enormous. Great local walk to waterfall. Bit ott for $$. Not much open of a night
- Mary (10/5): Fabulous property, onsen, and staff. A great way to see Japan if you’re visiting! - Clean, cozy, well-maintained. Has a lot of character and charm.
- Maureen (8/5): - Location is in the middle of a great rural town with places to explore. Food was absolutely delicious! The surrounding area is beautiful and the rooms are well decorated. Go in understanding this is a traditional ryokan, so no western beds which is fine as long as you understand that! The facility is very cold during the winter and the onsen facilities were not warm enough.
- Tanner (8/5): Large, comfortable room and friendly staff made our stay here very enjoyable. - Large, comfortable room and friendly staff made our stay here very enjoyable. Onsen water wasn’t very hot.
- Stu (7/5): - The provided meals, and the Japanese style of our room was very nice. The courtyard garden and lobby are nice. There were a number of uncomfortable aspects:
* Futon mattresses were unusually thin.
* The outdoor onsen was cold.

- Caroline (9/5): Prachtig stadje - leuke wandelingen - heerlijk ontbijt - Het ontbijt was werkelijk fantastisch. Aanrader. Super traditioneel hotel. Ruime kamers en alles aanwezig om zelfstandig je te vermaken of je te laten verwennen door het hotel met lunches en avondeten. Onsen is speciaal - buitenlucht Alles is wel wat gedateerd- maar voldoet nog prima
- Minzhe (8/5): Cozy stay along the Nakasendo trail - We were walking the Nakasendo so this was a convenient middle point to stop for us. While the property seems to appear like a generic modern building from the outside, surrounded by a parking lot, the inside is quite nice. When we arrived tired from our long day hike, the staff welcomed us quickly so that we could check in. The onsen was small but nice. Since we were there in mid-September, we barely saw anyone. Even the smallest quadruple room was very confortable for a group of 4 adults. The breakfast was Japanese style and served promptly on time. The immediate surrounding area is not the most quaint as there is a big parking lot next to the property. These were in fact the views from our window. It was a bit difficult to make the room darker as there were no block-out blinds, so if you're sensitive to that, I would bring a sleeping mask.
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Huge room, 2 toilets and a separate bathroom. Gorgeous view over the river. Delicious dinner with unique courses that just kept coming. Relaxing onsen on the roof.

- Tom (10/5): Amazing Ryokan in the Kiso Valley - Great location central to the Kiso Valley area. Near the Kiso Fukushima train station. The staff was excellent. Make sure to include breakfast and make sure to do dinner there at least one night. It’s a little pricey but well worth it. The Japanese bath is excellent. As an American not accustomed to sleeping in the floor I got a little uncomfortable but that’s the experience you are looking for.
- Sara (10/5): Lovely Traditonal Ryokan with amazing views of the river - Lovely Ryokan in a fabulous location overlooking the river. We loved the sounds of rushing water and beautiful views from our little sitting area. The room was huge with two toilets, large bathroom and multiple rooms, all featuring beautiful tatami floors. The staff were exceptional, suggesting and making bookings for restaurants for us. We found this a good base for our walk on the Magome to Tsumago section of the Nakasendo Trail. It was a 45 minute drive down to Tsumago but we stopped off at the beautiful Atera Valley on the way back to Kiso and enjoyed dipping our feet in the cool water after a big hike. Nothing
- Andrea (10/5): Authentic and Cozy Japanese Experience! - Our stay at Kiso no Yado Iwaya was wonderful! The room was cozy, comfortable, and spacious. The staff was incredibly attentive, and the dinner was absolutely delicious — a true taste of authentic Japanese cuisine. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a traditional experience!
- Elena (9/5): Superb - The staff organised the transfer of our luggage with no fuss. The breakfast was great, but more food than I would normally eat. We slept comfortably on the customs as they had put two on top of each other.
- Jing (10/5): Exceptional - Iwaya Inn has 300 over years of history. The current boss who is a friendly gentle lady is the 11th generation.
It was such an amazing experience to stay at Iwaya Inn, even though we stayed for 1 night.
When we did our check in, Mr Domo (i hope i get the name right) even offered to help us park our car. When he knew we wanted to play fire works, he prepared a bucket and trash bag for us! How thoughtful of him ♡
The breakfast and dinner we had was delectable. Every single dish was amazingly done. My children enjoyed eating it too. Room was spacious and clean. Futon was so comfortable to sleep on. Onsen was so relaxing. Thumbs up for all the staff,
they are very welcoming and friendly, providing excellent service and making guests feel comfortable.
It should be 5☆ rating for Iwaya Inn. Nothing
- Mildred (10/5): Great river view room - On site onsen facility and restaurant served authentic Japanese cuisine.
- Erica (10/5): Loved our beautiful room with sitting area over-looking the river. The staff person was so gracious and helpful. Highly - Beautiful traditional style room with a sitting area over-looking the river. Loved the sound of the rushing water. The onsen was also wonderful with indoor and open-air soaking areas.
- L (9/5): Lovely family run local hotel, mid sized, excellent hot baths on top floor. Food was great. - lovely large room, with futons and tatami mats. Had space for 3 adults comfortably. Good hot baths on the top floor included in the price. I booked the set evening meal and it was excellent - a very quiet dining room, served at 6.30, beautifully presented and extremely tasty and interesting. The staff and family who run it were very kind and welcoming.
Pleased to have booked this.
- Overmolch (8/5): Very good -
- Dominique (9/5): Best people! - The people are absolutely the greatest!
- Meredith (10/5): Kisoji no Yado Iwaya was a great place to stay to enjoy the beautiful Kiso Valley. Highly recommend! - The staff were so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the facilities and the location was great.
- Mei (9/5): The facility looks outdated. The place is small and the quality of kaiseki and breakfast are not as refined as some of t - The staff is very friendly and warm. The onset is good and the kaisaki dinner is ok.
- Vojtech (9/5): Superb -
- Isabella (8/5): Good value for the money - Nice hotel, clean and conveniently located Nothing
- Cassie (8/5): Very good -
- Judy (10/5): The staff were incredible. Breakfast was delicious and beautifully prepared. - This was such a fantastic place to stay! If you are doing the Nakasendo trail I could not recommend this more. Stunning rooms (lovely by the river), delicious breakfast and lovely onsen. Everyone working there was amazing and kind! I even left my jacket behind at one of the restaurants and they couriered it for me to my next hotel. A real Japanese experience. Nothing
- Mandm (10/5): An excellent hotel. - We loved everything about this hotel. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and the Onsen was wonderful. The location was good and the staff welcoming.
A delicious breakfast was served Everything was wonderful but it would have been nice to have had the choice of coffee for breakfast rather than automatically served green tea.
- Karen (9/5): Superb - The staff were very welcoming and helped us find somewhere to eat, which was difficult out of season and on a Monday evening when most places are closed. The typical Japanese room, with tatami matting and futon beds, was very comfortable. Good instructions were provided for the onsen, which was on the top floor and a great place to relax after walking all day
- Ling (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly and helpful owners, nice big traditional rooms, indoor and outdoor onsen were the perfect way to start and end the day.
- Elena (10/5): It was so enjoyable. - Love the location!! Love the traditional Japanese bedroom. The room is so nice, clean, and so cozy. The staff are great and super nice and courteous and very attentive. The breakfast was excellent. Check out time at 11am would be nicer.
- Kasia (10/5): Great hospitality and beautiful experience! - The hosts were extremely polite and kind, the onsen was great and the room really spacious! Everything was clean and tidy. It was lovely to experience traditional Japanese breakfast as well, adjusted for our dietary requirements- thank you so much for that, we really appreciate it! Nothing :) great value for the price
- Megan (8/5): Very good -
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pasqual (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful ryokan in Kiso Fukushima. Everything was great :)))
