- Coetsee (10/5): Best location, ski to the doorstep, family friendly place. - A great location, right on the slopes. Restaurants nearby and delicious breakfast and dining right at the hotel. Lovely family atmosphere, while the hosts didn't speak much English they were very welcoming and accommodating.
- Lucas (7/5): -
- Beau Maria (6/5): Prima prijs kwaliteit verhouding. - De locatie en het ontbijt De kamer was wat smoezelig en de badkamer was klein
- Per Pontus (7/5): -
- Guilhem (8/5): - Great location ski in / ski out. Next to ski school.
- Harry (9/5): Lovely staff. Great location to the slopes. Clean and fresh towels every day. - Convenience to the chairlifts. Right next door!
- Kai (10/5): - The service was amazing, the locations is probably the best you can get in hakuba.
My friend left his passport in a taxi and the lady at the front desk was very helpful with calling the taxi company and assisting us with getting it back

- Craig (7/5): The hotel is fine however as a result of the experience at check out, we would not stay there again. - Room comfortable - good access to ski runs - all the basic facilities you need - staff helpful apart from the issue mentioned below We didn't like the fact that on check out day there was a feeling that they wanted you out as soon as possible. Checkout time was 10.00 which in itself is earlier than the more usual 11.00, but okay, we understood that. A staff member came to collect towels at 9.45 am which was intrusive and created a sense of urgency to get out of the room. At 10.01 they were calling the room to confirm we were vacating - we didn't answer the first time and within a few minutes they were re-calling until we did. As we left the room, cleaning staff were waiting outside. All this when check in time isn't until 3.00pm anyway.
- Mic n Nic (8/5): Good hotel and affordable - Very close to the lifts
Staff are very friendly and helpful Beds and pillows a bit hard - but really this is a first world problem - as the location and staff are awesome
- Joshua (10/5): - Friendly staff and great location!
- Fontius (6/5): - Tolle Lage direkt an der Skipiste. Ski-In-Ski-out ohne Probleme möglich.
- Eleanor (10/5): -
- Ivanna (8/5): - The owner very friendly
Sauna and onsen very clean
Japanese style room was very nice nice view
The lifts so close by We didn't enjoy our room and got another one. Thank you for that. Our room didn't have balcony and booking said it had balcony.

- COREY (9/5): - Friendly staff and attentive.
- Julian (7/5): - The entire hotel is looking a bit tired but contained everything we needed for a great few days on the slopes. Beds are amazingly comfortable. They made an extra effort with being a vegetarian! Big points in this country. The cereal was great too! Small public bathing area but not busy so, again, more than adequate. Unfailingly polite family owned place. However, a traditional Japanese New Year breakfast was provided, which contained lots of delectable seafood and sake. Not the best for a tee totalling vegetarian.

- pamela (7/5): -
- Andrew (6/5): Comfortable but desperately in need of redecorating. - Warm and comfortable rooms. Fabulous thick duvets. A public bath and a drying/locker room for wet ski gear. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lobby and whole downstairs smells of damp. Very old decor, seemingly not touched since it was established in 1967. Bathrooms were tiny, freezing cold and amenities were basic. Location at the top of the hill would be ok if you could ski in and out - but this depends on the snow and the lifts being open.
- katie (8/5): Comfortable and convenient. Clean. - Spacious and clean room. Very helpful and kind staff. Great breakfast. Location. Dated.
- Taeko (10/5): -
- Alf Peder (4/5): - Beliggenhed Der var koldt, vinderne kunne ikke åbnes. Man skulle bestille middag
- Leon (10/5): - Very good location and very cozy

- Nobuki (8/5): - 料理が美味しい
- Takao (8/5): -
- Marianna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - Location, friendly staff, ski/snowboard locker rooms with hotel and outdoor entrances.
- David (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (8/5): Nice - Nice spot, right next to the slopes, super convenient in the mornings if you want to ski happo one, but the walk up the hill in the afternoons is rough! The location was at the top of a very steep hill which was often icy, but overall location was still very good
- Daniel (10/5): If I were ever in Hakuba I would definitely come back. Amazing staff - The staff was incredibly helpful and nice. There was an English speaking staff that made the experience easier. Although the staff don’t speak amazing English, they try their best with every interaction and I felt very welcomed N/A
- Oscar (7/5): Good -
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (6/5): Pleasant -
- Johnson (9/5): Superb - We had a great time. It is near restaurants and ski in and ski out.
- Anastasia (8/5): Very good -
- Arlene (8/5): Best ski-in/ski-out location but a little far from restaurants - Ski-in/ski-out location next to Saka 2 Lift, take it up & ride down to Gondola Adam. All lifts open at 8:00 am. Hotel has heated ski lockers, fits skis & accessories but a bit small for snowboards. There's a non-heated connected room where snowboarders can leave their boards. Slippers available at main entrance & at board room. Overnight waxing available for 2800yen.
Room is basic, but for the price and ski-in/ski-out location, a great value. Hotel's location is higher up the hill from town so it's a bit challenging climbing back up to the hotel, esp if it's snowing or black ice. It's a few min walk down to the first group of restaurants, 15 min walk to Lawson's. The walk back takes longer going uphill. Taxis are very difficult to get (like, pre-arrange for days in advance), just bet on walking or rent a car.
Food is pricier the closer to the mountain/hotel you are. Hotel breakfasts worth the convenience & are yummy & filling. They have a 3 day set menu of eggs & bacon, eggs & sausage, or egg & veggie torte individually served to you. Bread, rice, miso soup, yogurt & cereal, and drinks are all-you-can-eat buffet style. Breakfast is served only from 7:30-8:00.
The hotel is mostly quiet but you can clearly hear your neighbors' conversations if they're in the hallway. Sadly, no bidets in room, just in the lobby restroom. Bathroom door has an open vent, so be comfortable not having complete privacy.
The younger staff is very friendly, the older staff were courteous.
- Yaqzaan (9/5): Superb - Close to beginner slopes. People staying during my stay barely seemed to use the sauna and public bath so that was good
- Esmeralda (8/5): Very good - The staff are warm and welcoming. They introduced us to the place - where the board storage room is, dry room etc. and that helped us a lot! They also helped me to fill up a ta-q-bin form so I could ship my snowboard bag to the next city I was going to! The staff were amazing and kind!
The room was for 4 people. The beds and blankets were really comfy. It has a vintage/cottage vibe and the warm lighting made it nice for resting. The one issue is probably that it gets really dry at night when you keep the heater on. So we opened the window slightly to let air in for ventilation and moisture. We made do for a week though. Bathroom was also straight forward, clean and good. Always topped us up with amenities daily - fresh blankets, extra toilet rolls, etc. Balcony was nice too! Liked the view lots! Dry room/locker room was a bit cramped with how many people were trying to dry their stuff and hanging it everywhere. But no complaints, we just did what we needed to! The public bath and sauna were great as well.
The place is also up a hill, it is quite a walk up with your luggage if you don't have transport. Honestly we got used to it by day 3 haha. The hotel is right next to Happo One Shirakaba Lift 2 - good for beginners with easy green and reds. Short stroll to the Gondola Station as well. Lift tickets can be bought at the hotel too! There is no convenience store nearby so definitely stock up! Only a vending machine for snacks, beer and water.
Honestly we had a great time, came back to rest and recharge. It was worth the price and the experience. We had lots of fun!
- Caroline (9/5): Lovely stay for a snowboard trip - Good location, right by the slopes. Ski in/ski out.
Very nice staff. Good equipments for skiers snowboarder with a dry room/locker room and everything you need.
Discounted ski pass available at the hotel.
Decoration and furnitures are a bit old but room is very comfy.
The breakfast is great!
Thank you for all it was a great stay! It would be a great plus to have a pick up drop off service to the bus terminal.
- Dmitrii (7/5): Good -
- Jason (6/5): Average but did the job - The location was great. Staff were friendly. Room was a decent size. The room and building is very old. Our room had blood stains on the carpet and the beds were very hard.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Katie (8/5): We had a very comfortable stay , with helpful staff - Friendly staff Nothing
- Oscar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kyah (8/5): Lovely staff and great stay! - Right next to the mountain which was perfect as we snowboarded. Great having the ski lockers and mud room to use afterwards. The room had really lovely views and had the most comfortable bed during our stay in Hakuba. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - even assisted us with booking a taxi when we checked out. The property is on top of a very steep hill - if you do not have transport/taxi booked to pick you up from the Happo One bus station it is a very difficult trek! An important tip to consider if you don’t want to be walking up a very steep hill every night after going out for dinner or drinks.
- Mark (7/5): Great location, great staff and value for money. - Very nice staff and ski in ski out location! The staff even have an affordable hot wax service in house. Warm and tidy Japanese style rooms. Due to demand prices seem to have increased from last season.
- Bissie (4/5): Disappointing - View from the window is fantastic - overlooking the ski slopes directly . Tje facility interior is worn down and old. The bathroom is just plain old plastic capsule that smells bad inside. The bed frame is worn down and squeaky.. The carpet is soiled. This is a 1-star facility.
- Kirill (7/5): Good -
- Kate (7/5): Good - Location is awesome, ski in, ski out. Also short walk to green runs for beginner in the group. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Onsen and sauna dated but nice. Main feature of breakfast was eggs - not great if you are allergic / don’t like eggs. Hotel is quite dated and bathrooms in room super small.
- Fredrik (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, great breakfast and nice onsen/sauna
- Claudia (10/5): Kind hotel employee and overall wonderful experience. - Very lovely workers at the hotel. Great location and super easy to get onto the slopes early in the morning I wish there was an outdoor Onsen part of the hotel. Could be enclosed but the fresh cold air and the onsen would be nice
- Jennifer (8/5): A convenient, warm and welcoming family-run hotel, thank you! - Spacious room and so close to the ski lift! The sauna and shared bathing facilities were fabulous after a day of skiing.
- Tanya (9/5): Superb - Good value for money in a ski resort Need to take a taxi to & from bus/train station on arrival/leaving. Difficult to get taxi. Can walk but not great in heavy snow!
- Mariangela (10/5): Loved our stay in Hakuba - The staff were amazing, very attentive. A few hundred meters to ski school and slopes, so convenient.
The breakfast included was wonderful and dinner was like fine dining, presentation, waiters outstanding. Absolutely delicious
Our room was probably not the best at the hotel as the window faced a mountain of snow and a kitchen window but we booked very last minute. It was still comfortable Nothing
- David (7/5): Good - Location - very good. Ski in/ out next to Shirakaba 2 lift. A 3 min walk up the hill to Kokusai lift where Evergreen ski school is.
Dinner - French dinner course was a civilized way to end the day after skiing. And much simpler and better than eating out. Hotel itself is obviously dated, so don’t expect modern new luxury.
- Samuel (9/5): Good 5-night stay at Petit Hotel Shitaka with friendly staff and good location - Very friendly staff, good location Miss a coffee shop in the hotel
- Jessica (9/5): Superb - Great location, close to everything. Bus stop close by. Long hill walking up to the accomodation- exhausting!
- Dominguez (10/5): Excellent value and the hosts are super friendly. - The breakfasts were awesome. Definitely sufficient for a busy morning skiing. The egg component varied each day and even enjoyed a slice of lemon on the side.
- Gregory (9/5): Very happy with our stay at Hotel Shitaka - Shikata is an old style, family run hotel. It's not flash, the lobby area is scruffy but overall we were very pleased with the value, location, room comfort, food and facilities and will happily stay again.
Our twin room with ensuite #301 was very spacious for Japan, with plenty of floor space as well as 2 desks and a sofa. Being a corner room, it has great views of the ski slopes. I could even watch the Saturday 8pm fireworks from bed! The location is great for ski-in/ski-out. Buy Happo One passes from reception at reduced prices, walk up the stairs from the hotel's car park and you're off and away on Shirakaba #2 lift.
The hotel breakfast and diners are excellent. Cereal, juice, yoghurt, bread selections, miso and rice are buffet while the hot dish of the day is served individually with salad and fruit. A beautifully prepared 4 course dinner is very good value and recommended. And the staff, especially in the restaurant were so sweet.
The hotel has some great facilities - lift access to rooms, a well heated ski room with lockers and another for skis with direct access on to the cark park, and some undercover parking. Near reception, a microwave, yukatas and hairdryers are provided for the onsen/bath - which was extremely hot! Bath and onsen towels are renewed daily. The only thing missing is a communal fridge
- Karen (9/5): Wonderful stay with wonderful hosts. - The hosts are lovely and very welcoming. They go out of their way to help you with reservations etc.
- Sally (8/5): Very good -
- Thamer (10/5): Great accommodation for lessons - Had a really nice day there I wish I could have used the inhouse onsen..
4 minutes away from the ski/snowboarding lessons area the staff were very nice and welcoming Had a hard time trying to figure out how to lock the room's door..NOTE:it locked from the inside
- Malin (4/5): I cannot recommand a japanese style room with futon mattrasses on the floor. It is just too hard. - The location is fantastic. the Staff in the restaurant and reception are very friendly. we booked a quad room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The matteresses on the floor were very hard to sleep on and the room was way too small for 4 people let alone the tiny bathroom.
We missplaced a ski locker key and offered to sent it back as we would have packed it in a hurry, but got charged a wooping 4000 yen! we ordered a taxi for the way down to the bus terminal for 10 am only to learn at 8.30 that it was actually booked for 9 am... packed in a hurry and missplaced the very expensive keys!
The onzen and facilities around the lobby area were very 70 style... not very warm or inviting to spend time.
I would not recommand a quad room at this place. the normal beds were ok. We stayed fo 5 nights.
- Monika (6/5): Needs a bit of TLC but staff are lovely - Staff were absolutely amazing, accommodated late check in, helpful Breakfast time too short, 7.30-8 am, very old run down, needs renovations
- Agung (8/5): Old hotel with friendly staffs. - Friendly staff Old hotel, although all facilities work, still need some renovations.
- Ivan (3/5): Poor - Not far ski resort Very dated, located on a hill so need to walk on steep slop
- Leonie (9/5): Good value, family run lodge. - The lodge is run by a Japanese family and they are just so lovely. It is basic but perfect for your stay at Happo. Walking up the hill takes a bit of a toll if you go into town.
- Jun (10/5): Amazing stay. Will return! - Stayed 4 nights leading up to new years for a family ski trip. Rooms are a little outdated but well kept, bathrooms are private (huge plus over shared options around the area, good soaking tub), good ski in/out access to Happo one report (right next to Shirakaba 2 lift, can ski downhill a bit to reach Gondola), decent public bath with hot dry sauna. Very friendly staff. Location is up the hill so at night when buses/taxis drop you off at gondola, it's a solid 5-10min walk uphill - can get challenging when roads become snowy and icy. Saw one stinkbug, prob can't be helped when we keep doors open.
- Teresa (7/5): Good -
- Aleksandar (8/5): Very good -
- Nerida (8/5): Very good -
- Katherine (10/5): amazing!! -
- Toma (9/5): Superb - A charming traditional Japanese ski hotel, no frills but on point on what matters. The lady at the reception was so lovely and helpful with all my queries, and I very much enjoyed my brief stay.
- Bethan (8/5): Reasonably priced, great food - The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious, particularly the dinners. The sauna was nice for relaxing at the end of the day. It’s certainly overdue a redecoration, but that’s just a superficial thing and didn’t affect the comfort of our stay. The Happo Gondola is close by, which was very convenient, but the hotel is up a fairly steep hill, which was a bit of a slog on foot in the heat of August.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Fantastic breakfast, warm room, ski in and out
- Nick (8/5): Totally enjoyed our few days spring snowboarding in Happo-one, the hotel staff were really great hosts. - The location was excellent, we actually walked there from the train station and it was a breeze to get to the gondola station. The staff were lovely and really did everything to make our stay enjoyable. Nothing really, the building is old and peculiar but that’s fine, it was a bit like a trip back in time.
- Jesse (1/5): Good location but terrible beds and room - I imagine in peaked season when all facilities were operational the location would be good as It's right next to a chair lift.
The staff were very helpful Spring sling: No facilities open except the breakfast room. No choice, just a single dish on offer. It was pretty good though.
The rooms were poor, my bed was horrific, the pipes in the bathroom groaned for 5+min every time they were used. I woke up sore after 3 hrs and tossed and turned until day light. I cancelled the rest of the stay and moved to another hotel. As we'd paid in advance through booking.com we weren't offered anything for the 5 cancelled nights but I couldn't sleep in that bed again.
- Alex (8/5): Great location in Happo One - Ski-in/Ski-out - Excellent location if you are skiing/snowboarding - ski-in/ski-out. The closest lift is 30 seconds away, the main gondola is 2 mins ski down the hill, at the end of the day you can ski straight back to the hotel.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Restaurants, bars, shops and ski rental are a 5 min walk down the hill.
The hotel has lockable storage lockers for skiing equipment (free to use).
Breakfast is basic but adequate.
- Chong (8/5): Very good - The location was fantastic. The room was large and very comfortable for a family of four. We really enjoyed having the public bath and heated lockers. The staff were very welcoming.
- Stevo (9/5): Superb - premium location, ski in out the onsen is extremely small
- Stevo (9/5): Superb - ski in out, premium location a little distance from town centre, going up hill
- Tihamér (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is amazing, they did their outmost to help us each time. The owners even took gheir private car to bring us down for the early bus. Overall a great value for money, with really great location, close to the slopes. Totaly recomend it!
- Kevin (7/5): Good -
- Emmanuel (7/5): Good value for money - Location / ski in / ski out :-) Separate beds instead of a double bed
Hard pillows
- Robert (7/5): Great for ski holiday if you are not too fussy about new facilities. - Great location. Close to everything. Onsen is good and drying room for you ski gear. Bit dated. Central heating was not very warm in room 408. They had a second heater in room but it was kerosene which is a health hazard in a confined space. Beds are bit on firm side.
- Narathorn (10/5): Perfect - Friendly staff N/A
- Hanzhen (10/5): Exceptional - We totally enjoyed our stay at Petit Hotel Shitaka. Before I got there I accidentally left my wallet on the bus, and after I told the staff at the hotel, they not only offered to call the bus company and helped me track down the wallet, but also called me a taxi to take me to the lost & found at the bus company's office. They even shared with the taxi driver what happened and asked the taxi driver for help with the communication with lost & found for me. Utmost respect to the staff at Hotel Petit Shitaka!
- Tomasz (8/5): Very good -
- Sawako (8/5): wanted to stay longer - good location, clean, nice staffs
- Joshua (10/5): Was a great value and exceptional staff - Staff was very polite and location was optimal for skiing N/a
- Luong (7/5): Good - Facilities dated but convenient (vending machine, ski on to ski lift. Overall fair price for what you get. Even has a simple Onsen. breakfast time was rigid ie between 7 to 8am. No transportation.
- Pip (8/5): Great experience, will be back - Location is excellent and staff are very friendly. Beds are very firm
