Guest Reviews
- Alvaro (10/5): -
- Megha (10/5): -
- Jorden (9/5): - Great small apartment, clean and cozy A bit far from metro and tourist areas
- Johnny (10/5): - Tout Rien
- Susan (10/5): We would definitely come and stay here again. Has been a highlight of our trip. - Excellent location as you can walk to a few stores and restaurants near the lake.
It does have a steep driveway, but they will send someone to come and pick you up after you arrive at Motohakone. There is one large evergreen tree that is blocking the view of Mt Fuji, but we were thrilled to have a clear sky so we could see the mountain.

- Ryan (10/5): The highlight of our stay in Hakone! - We had an amazing experience at Hananoyado! We were greeted at the door and provided welcome drinks with a serene vie out the large windows facing Lake Ashi. Even though my Japanese was limited, our hosts were able to effectively communicate with us throughout the day. The room was spacious and our private onsen was a delight! The highlight of our stay was the incredible kaiseki meal. Unfortunately, I do not recall the name of the woman who took care of us. Her English language skills were fantastic. She patiently helped my spouse tie her Yukata robe correctly and she described every plate of the meal in exquisite detail. We appreciated her so much! We were stuffed by about halfway through the servings but soldiered on to finish everything. It was really the highlight of our stay in Japan! If I had to fault anything, it would be the cost of the stay. However, their pricing is competitive with most Ryokan offering half board meals around Hakone.
- Jacob (10/5): Fantastic Ryokan. Relaxing and very accommodating. - My room was spacious and comfortable. It had a great bathroom with a bath inside. The toilet opens up when I walk in and is a heated bidet. I had coffee and nice tea included. The fridge was full of bottled sodas, teas, and beers that were included. There was a kotatsu with space underneath for my legs, so I could sit in a normal seated position instead of cross-legged.
The food there was an omakase serving every day. The meals were very fancy and on par with what I have had in nice restaurants. I was served breakfast and dinner in a way that made me feel like royalty.
The staff is very attentive and accommodating. They answered all of my questions and did their best to accommodate my requests (laundry and late-night sake).
I got a 2 hour massage there. It was somewhat pricey, about $120. The massage was not strong, but incredibly relaxing. I also had an MCL injury and it made my knee feel loads better after the massage.
The private onsen was worth every penny. There is a back patio with a shower outside, and the onsen is spacious and comfortable. It can definitely fit 2 people. I used it during a rainstorm and it was divine. Just the price. I booked the last room during early April, which is peak season. It was $750 a night for a room with a private onse. The price is usually $400-$500.
Also, the bath in my bathroom had leaks in it, resulting in it not filling all the way. The leaks did NOT cause my bathroom to overflow, just for the tub not to fill. Not a huge issue since I had a private onsen, but I wanted to have a cold tub.
- Gerald (6/5): Good location but very rude staff. Won’t be back!! - Yes the hotel is not bad, well located near the cruise - walkable but steep hill to walk - difficult with luggages. The private Onsen is mixed and not bad. The front desk male receptionist was always helpful to drop us off with his van. The female host was very unpleasant and forceful, eg. knocking our door 5 and 1 min before check out time - we were right on time!! It’s okay when she’s a little late to take us ro breakfast - and that’s just one example …
To our biggest surprise - NO DINNER was provided like you would expect with an Onsen hotel. So we had to pay for taxi to find food elsewhere. Taking that into consideration, it’s very pricey!!
The idea of their semi open bath in room is just a just a bathtub; misled by photo.
- Rachel (10/5): - Quiet, clean, excellent service and location. Food was amazing.
- philippe (10/5): -
- Vogel (10/5): -
- Zach (10/5): - Absolutely wonderful experience. Perfect meals, welcoming staff. Fantastic location right near the lake, but not loud at all. Porch onsen was great.
- Thibaut (10/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): -
- Roberta (10/5): -
- Claudio (10/5): - Everything was perfect, stunning and delicious. Congratulations to the staff and special mention for the chef and its incredible dinner and breakfast. Onsen are simply fantastic.
- Carrie (10/5): We loved our stay at this ryokan. Staff were amazing, the rooms were great, and the hot springs were wonderful - Beautiful, peaceful, great location, wonderful hot springs, amazing staff
- Robinouxxx (10/5): - TOUT
- Will Magnuson (10/5): Beautiful experience of Japan. - Everything about this place is a delight from the service, accommodations, onsen, location and the food! This was a bit of a sludge for us but so worth it for the life experience. I highly suggest just doing it and savor the experience. Not a thing.
- Cooper (7/5): - It is a nice traditional ryokan located near the southern port of lake ashi. The rooms are very nice and clean. The kitatsu is a great touch.
The food was ok but not the highlight. The staff are very kind and helpful. The menu served was well made and some of it was delicious. But there were some dishes that were not great. The price as well is very high for what you get.
- Angela (10/5): Our favorite stay in Japan - The staff were incredibly attentive and kind. The ryokan itself was stunning and super comfortable. There was lots of food and it was very tasty! We had terrible weather during our stay but did not mind at all, since we got to enjoy the thermal baths and warm up in the kotatsu. Honestly wished we would have stayed here more days. This is the only hotel in my visit to Japan that i would return to instead of visiting a new place, that is how much i loved it here. If i had to pick something, it would be that the hotel is on a steep hill, so trips back and forth from town are not super easy if you are doing that constantly. But it should not be a problem for the vast mayority of people, and the calm and quiet location make it totally worth it.
Nada.
- Marius (9/5): -
- Grigorios (10/5): Amazing ryokan with great people. -
- Axel (10/5): -
- Coryse (10/5): Inoubliable.
- William (10/5): A great nod to traditional Japanese hospitality. - It was in a beautiful area. The hot springs were nice, and the food was amazing. None
- Kaplunovich (8/5): Great comfort, no view - The ryokan gives you a flavor of a very authentic stay with very comfortable mattresses, blankets and pillows. The breakfast is delicious and very beautifully served! If you expect the view like on the picture you will not get it from any room or onsen of the hotel. It is blocked by the very high trees on the main road and high railings on the hotel balconies. For the view you have to go outside and down to the lake shore which would take about 3 min. So, overall location is good but enjoying the onsen with the view is not the case for this ryokan that is why $900 that I paid per night I find overpriced.
- Bailey (10/5): - This place was beautiful inside and out with gorgoues outdoor views from our room! I booked the larger room with the private outdoor onsen for myself and my husband and it was perfect. The staff were very helpful and attentive as well. We got the traditional breakfest and dinner for both nights we stayed and it was yummy and an awesome experience within itself!
- Kathryn (10/5): This is an exceptional luxury experience. We loved everything and wish we had stayed longer! - Everything! The warm welcome, the relaxing atmosphere, the beautiful surroundings, delicious breakfast and attention to detail. The private onsen. Nothing not to like!
- Guest (10/5): -
- Marco (8/5): Gueum, the lady who served us the dinner and breakfas, was really kind and attentive to offer us a wanderful experience. - The welcoming with matcha tea.
- Anton (10/5): -
- françois (10/5): Fantastique -
- Sherrie (10/5): -
- Wendy (10/5): Beautiful, traditional ryokan with outdoor onsen - Incredible sleeping accommodations, private onsen, and excellent service. The meals were also exceptional. Nothing
- Edwin (10/5): - They were incredibly accommodating! The best hotel experience I’ve ever had Nothing! Everything was great!
- Peter (10/5): Wonderful, quiet and relaxing. - Wonderful and relaxing. Loved the onsen. Good food and staff very helpful.
- Nicolas (10/5): Topissime ! - Le onsen privatif dehors !! Absolument rien !
- Nicholas (10/5): It exceeded my expectations, I was very happy from beginning to end - The room was amazing. I loved the private outdoor bath and the meal we ordered was delicious! Nothing, it was all good!
- Maxime (10/5): -
- Steven (10/5): We'll be back one day - Beautiful and convenient location. To die for onsen and service. My partner and I had such a lovely time. The snowstorm that blew in the weekend we were there hampered our plans for the Hakone loop, but it was just so beautiful we didn't mind just staying in and relaxing. Highly recommended.
- Wen (10/5): - The dinner was fantastic
- philippe (10/5): -
- Lea (9/5): -
- Erica (9/5): Family birthday celebration - Hananoyado is peacefully located away from the busy town but close to beautiful temples, which made it feel relaxing and authentic. I absolutely loved our stay and brought my adult kids so they could experience an onsen for the first time — they loved it! It was something completely different for them, but such a memorable and special experience for our family. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional Japanese stay.
- Aliza (10/5): Perfect. I hope everyone has the opportunity to stay here! - Dinners and breakfasts were amazing! Delicious delicacies that were so thoughtfully prepared and presented. Their service is incredible and exceeded all expectations. Nothing! It was a marvelous experience. They were so helpful in accommodating our desire for an early morning walk to see Mt. Fuji before breakfast.
- Kathryn (10/5): -
- George (5/5): A few added amenities would have taken our stay from mediocre to great! - Dinner and breakfast were awesome. Private onsen was good. The staff was very courteous and respectful. Just a few added amenities would have taken this stay from mediocre to great. Besides drinks, a few snacks would have been nice. Did not realize a futon in Japan is a thin mattress on the floor. Definitely not a good stay for someone 65 years or older. No chairs to sit on - everything is on the floor. Very hard to relax. A small place outside with some chairs to have some drinks and relax, enjoy nature, would have made a world of difference. The private shower was a handheld attachment to the wall. I realize the point is to maintain and experience Japanese tradition, but having some western amenities would be wise in my opinion.
- LAURIS (9/5): -
- Basheer (10/5): -
- Alexander (9/5): -
- John (10/5): - The property was beautiful. We loved the traditional Japanese style. The staff was professional and very friendly. Highly recommended if staying near Lake Ashi. None
Rien
- Annita (9/5): A fantastic relaxing stay with a private Olsen on a balcony - Excellent Japanese breakfast. Paid for traditional ryokan dinner in room which was a lovely change from browsing the local inns Nothing. Maybe the walk up the wet driveway when we arrived the manager dropped us to the bus stop all other times
- Varsha (9/5): -
- Yaron (8/5): -
- Mengxi (9/5): -
- Sara (10/5): -
- Juan (8/5): -
- Kyle (9/5): Great relaxing getaway in the mountains. - The service was the best part. The staff were amazing. Getting to and from the hotel is tough.
- Kristy (10/5): - Beautiful stay with fantastic breakfast. Good location for lake access.
- Roxane (10/5): - Wunderbares Ryokan, toller Service, kuschelige Betten.
- suhartini (9/5): An amazing and memorable stay in a ryokan. - The service is top notch. We love our room onsen. The room is fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. The mini road to the ryokan entrance is rather steep.
- Mael (10/5): - The amenities, the larges rooms and the perfect service provided by the staff The tax for the usage of the Onsen that we weren’t made aware of before the check out
- Andrew (8/5): The facilities have a serene peace to them and I felt so at ease in the onsen, though I would opt to explore the town fo - The room itself, the onsens, the facilities were all absolutely stunning. The personal onsen in our room was one of my favorite things I did in Japan. It truly is so relaxing and the futons are some of the most comfortable! The dinner was great, and the breakfast was cool to try, but the added price for full board probably didn’t justify the cost. If I went again, I would just eat at one of the cute restaurants in town and enjoy the facilities themselves! I would absolutely recommend the hotel to anyone, but wouldn’t pay the board again
- Thanopoulos (10/5): -
- Aneka Prakash (10/5): - The service here was excellent! My mum and I had a great time. The onsen is not “private” in the sense that it’s not within your room, but when you’re using it, no one else can enter, so it’s essentially private. The breakfast and dinner was amazing as well, super fresh and delicious food. We had a great time and I’d definitely come back and also recommend this place!
- Cole (10/5): -
- Valentina (10/5): Amazing - Everything was perfect!
Food was excellent and having a private onsen is fab. I wish I stayed there longer
- Guillaume (10/5): -
- Huang (10/5): - Facilities were amazing. The private onsen included in the room was serene and clean. The hospitality was also top tier. They made the ryokan experience unforgettable. It was a little difficult to get to, but it’s by no fault of the property. Be very aware of the shinkansen and bus schedule in order to get here
- Meghna (10/5): - Excellent location, amazing ryokan with lovely private ryokan experience, warm and friendly staff
- Isabella (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - Everything was absolutely amazing. The private onsen was a dream. We would love to come back and stay for longer one day. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Sophia (10/5): - Location was great, facilities were excellent, and staff were exceptional! I loved everything about my stay here and I would even say it made Hakone my favorite place to visit while in Japan. I loved everything about my stay. No complaints!
- Timur (10/5): -
- sharon (10/5): Perfect traditional Ryoken stay - Everything about this stay was superb! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The private onsen in the room was perfect. The beds were comfy and breakfast delicious. We also booked massages right on site.
