- Marie (10/5): Stunning, loved it, super relaxing, lovely staff, amazing experience - We had an amazing stay. The staff were so lovely. The food was amazing and there was so much of it! You do not need to eat lunch! They were also very accommodating of dietary restrictions. The onsens were lovely in the day time with the cherry blossom and in the evening under the stars. It was so relaxing. They had PJs and all the toiletries you’d need. You could turn up with no luggage and be fine. We also booked the karaoke room which was good fun. We did the hot stone experience too which was absolutely boiling (shockingly) but enjoyable. Wish we had stayed longer. We went and did a day trip to the Lake Ashi cruise and the cable car. The day had poor weather so we didn’t end up doing the cable car. And the boat was a bit disappointing. It was very expensive to go to and from Odawara and the Lake cruise points the ryokan as it’s a 40 minute journey. So, if we could do it again, we’d just stay all day at the ryokan. There’s also a Lawson nearby if you need anything - it’s 24 hours. So essentially, the only negative about the ryokan is the expense of travel to and from it. Everything else was stunning. So just don’t leave!

- Camilla (10/5): Incredible experience beautiful people - Fukiya Ryokan is a very special place and was the highlight of my trip to Japan. The staff went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and ensure I had plenty of onsen time at all the outside private onsen (due to my tattoo). They even let me use their public baths alone while they were closed to the public. The meals were extraordinary traditional Japanese feasts. The rooms were spacious and comfortable while still feeling authentically Japanese. It was well worth staying at slightly cheaper accommodation elsewhere in Japan to afford to have my one night at this Ryokan. Slightly out of the way but still a good location
- Nick (10/5): amazing ryokan experience - At this price point you would expect everything to be pretty much perfect, and it was. From arrival, you barely have to lift a finger, all you have to do is just decide when you would like your dinner and breakfast. from chk-in, the staff take great care of you, walk you through to your room while introducing the facilities, food is of good quality. the room was well maintained with your own little japanese garden. the private onsens were great, with view out to the nearby hills in autumn colours. due to the small scale of the ryokan, the shared onsens turned out to be pretty private too. loved the towels they provide, so much so i bought one to take home. most staff do not speak english, but they have some english briefing notes for foreign guests and most signs are in english/ japanese you don't really feel like you are missing out of on much. when we used the private onsen on the roof the shower pressure was intermittent. but small blemish in an otherwise very authentic ryokan experience.
- Tiong (10/5): Superlative stay at a most atmospheric ryokan - Superlative service from start to finish with beautiful interiors designed by Kengo Kuma. Meticulous attention was paid to the little details, which made the stay so much more pleasant. The staff, in spite of the language barrier, made you feel comfortable and welcomed. Food was excellent and the kaiseki dinners brought you through the various types of Japanese cuisine (e.g. sukiyaki, yakiniku, shabu shabu). Breakfast was equally sumptuous and delicious. The rooftop onsen baths, operated on a first-come, first-serve basis, offered a fine view of the town and the mountains beyond. The ground floor public baths, aesthetically designed with sensitive lighting, offered soothing waters for a morning and evening soak. On the last day, staff checked in with me on the timing of my departure and ordered the taxi accordingly. The omiyage for me were all wrapped in the ryokan's emblematic design wrapping paper and very thoughtful comprising a tengui, a packet of green tea leaves and a box of freshly made onsen manju. An overall stupendous experience over two nights. Nothing in particular.

- Scott (10/5): - We had such a wonderful time, we stayed in the room with the corner garden and it was amazing, but the best bit is the staff, we where looked after so well, you get food delivered to your room every evening and breakfast and what a meal that is! 11 course evening meal and a breakfast spread that will out do any buffet all special delivered to you. The onsen was wonder with lovely views very relaxing and clean. Overall one of our favourite moments of the whole trip!

It was our second trip to a traditional Ryokan and this experience far surpassed our first. Given our non-existent Japanese skills the interaction took place with an electronic translator (and I used google translate) but it only increased the joy of the experience! The food was amazing and the onsens lovely and sparkling clean!

We spent one night in the Type S room. The private backyard was a special touch. We explored and enjoy all the baths. Our dinner and breakfast were sensational.
