- R7270HPjennifert (10/5): Lovely spa day - Me and my mum went for a spa day after my graduation to celebrate and I cannot say how brilliant the experience was. We started with afternoon tea which was lovely, my mum is dairy free and they were massively accommodating with her allergy. After that we had a facial and back massage and it was just amazing. My therapist was a blonde Scouse woman (whose name I didn’t catch, sorry!!) who was just brilliant. I felt so relaxed, calm and comfortable and just had a lovely day!

- milliejonesssxxx (2/5): Unprofessional Response to Constructive Feedback. Poor massage - I attended Rowton Hall Spa for a neck, back, shoulder and scalp massage using a voucher gifted by my parents. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The treatment involved an excessive amount of oil to the extent that meaningful pressure and massage technique were difficult to feel. Very little time was spent on my neck or scalp despite these being included in the treatment description, and I left feeling uncomfortable rather than relaxed. I chose to raise this privately before posting a public review, to give the spa an opportunity to address the issue constructively. Unfortunately, the response I received from the Spa Manager was defensive and inappropriate, referencing my professional background and implying that my feedback was surprising given my involvement in holistic work. I found this unprofessional and irrelevant to the matter raised. I then escalated the issue to senior management requesting a refund, as I no longer felt comfortable returning for a replacement treatment. My email has gone unanswered for over two weeks. It is extremely disappointing. Both the handling of the complaint and the subsequent lack of response have left me with little confidence in their customer service and the spa itself. I believe constructive feedback should be welcomed and handled respectfully. Sadly, this was not my experience.

The spa was peaceful with lovely facilities and our meals on both nights were exceptionally good. The service over our entire stay was warm, welcoming and efficient. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you for making our stay so special.

- rachaellL4581RP (10/5): Rest, relax and amazing food! - Can not find fault at all! Just returned from a night away for my birthday and from Check in to check out has been amazing! Stayed in the orangery bedroom, was lovely and welcoming , bed very comfortable, shower was a very powerful over head shower which was heaven. The spa was very well kept and the decor kept well within the nature of the building. The food..best I’ve ever had! So flavourful so much taste and good perfectly! The waiting on staff couldn’t do enough to make the night a good one. Big thanks to Dev the barman… so welcoming so friendly and really lights up the room! Breakfast was lovely, full continental breakfast available with hot items also included. Can’t wait to go back!!
- Donna-Midlands (10/5): An Excellent Find! - My husband and I stayed recently at Rowton Hall and Spa, which was a wedding present to us both. What a brilliant time we had. Both Chester and Cheshire Oaks are nearby and easily accessible. The hotel itself is so lovely. It is welcoming, comfortable and the staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to help. Their accommodation was second to none with everything you need to make your staff memorable. Meals are served in a lovely, bright room where the menu is delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection with plenty of choice. We were also extremely lucky to have treatments in the Wellness spa. Again, this could not be faulted, the staff were so lovely and the treatments were so relaxing and enjoyable. We did not use the pool, but this looked very busy! To finish off our weekend, we were able to join the Burns' Night celebrations. A really enjoyable evening, meeting some lovely people. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone who wants to feel well and truly spoiled 😊.
- sarahsH6761ZJ (8/5): Room nice pool nice ,service in restaurant needs looking at and someone to help people with there luggage - My sister and I booked rooms for us to stay as it was my mum's birthday a twin and a double room ,they were lovely but for an older person who is not good with two lots of stairs up to the room ,my mum struggled and also my sister and myself both have issues with the stairs too ,we had someone take our bags up to our room ,but on the sat 24 th jan my sister asked for someone to collect our bags nobody did ,so I ended up going up the stairs twice and bringing our bags done ,then we had breakfast it was nice ,I asked for soya milk for my cereal it was ok but when I had my cup of tea there was bits floating on tea so I asked for fresh milk and a new pot of tea ,so more soya milk came out and it was off too so I ended up with no cup of tea ,just some orange juice ,the service was terrible too nobody knew wot they were doing either,by the time it came to coming home ,my shoulder is now hurting after carrying the cases downstairs.
- franciss922 (10/5): Perfect for Us - We arrived at the Hotel on Sunday until Tuesday and and took our dog with us. The room was in a great location were we could take the dog on good walks around the Hotel grounds. The room was perfect, warm clean and quiet . The Breakfast was excellent were you can order of two different menus and it came hot and the bacon was deliciouse and we could even bring the dog into the bar area , this was perfect as we could could sit in a quiet area . - AnthonyC2424 (10/5): Christmas package family time - special - We booked a pre-Christmas break at Rowton Hall for our family, staying four nights in total. We, our children and my parents were all on the festive dinner, bed and breakfast package, with our children joining us for two nights and my parents for one night. We’ve been coming to Rowton Hall for years and have such strong family memories here, which is why we keep returning. With work being particularly busy in the run-up to Christmas, we were really looking forward to the stay as a chance to unwind – and it didn’t disappoint. For the first couple of days, my wife and I spent our time at the pool, relaxing with books, enjoying lunch in the spa bar area and properly switching off. It was exactly what we needed. When the rest of the family arrived, we all enjoyed time at the pool, dinners in the restaurant and drinks in the bar. The staff were brilliant throughout and made us feel genuinely welcome and at home. It’s clear that under the new owners a significant investment has been made, and the improvements are obvious. Many of the rooms have been upgraded. Ours hadn’t been at the time, but it was clean, comfortable and, as it happens, my wife’s favourite room – so no complaints at all. We will 100% be back and are already looking forward to our next stay.
- Queenbeetraveler84 (10/5): A Beautiful Retreat To Relax In. - Rowton Hall is a beautiful little hide away, allowing you to relax and take some time out. With beautiful surroundings that are kept tidy through out the year by a team of lovely friendly gardeners I have to say each visit I learn they have done something new to enhance your stay. The Spa facilities are just lovely, I always look forward to a swim, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room not to mention the use of the gym. The Spa also offers the opportunity for a treatment and each year I've been lucky enough to enjoy a treatment, I find the staff really friendly and professional. The rooms are lovely and cosy and provide the best nights sleep. The new conservatory looks amazing and has made a real impact, proving a warm and light area to enjoy. In the evenings the sofa's in front of the fire provide the perfect spot to relax and unwind. This hotel is the full package, providing a retreat for you to relax and enjoy.
- jaynewQ4094XY (4/5): Very Poor Spa Environment. Dangerous and lacking general care and maintenance - I visited the spa making a reservation for a half day. From the outset I must say the treatment itself was lovely and the therapist was so helpful and carried out the treatment well. The Spa though is not good. The pool was cold and the pool surroundings tired and dated. I observed a staff member cleaning hair from the drains without gloves or cleaning equipment.The changing rooms again needed attention. Many of the lockers were old and didn't work. The whole area is unloved and needed a lot of TLC. The reception area also included the dining area. It was shabby and uninviting.Both tables and chairs in the dining area were worn and damaged. One chair I say on was actually broken. The same staff member who was cleaning the hair from the drains walked through the dining area with a huge laundry truck whilst we were eating. The most worrying aspect was the stair rail leading to the spa area. It was unsafe and wobbled when you held it!! Totally unacceptable for a hotel and spa advertising a 4 ⭐ rating. I will not be returning. The Spo a charges premium prices for a worn out environment needing urgent investment and maintenance

- marksH5328VA (6/5): Two day stay new year gala event - Arrival and check in fairly standard and efficient, although there had been some confusion prior with our booking so it was under two names. Awkward as it was supposed to be a surprise for one of us. Afternoon tea was poor, weak coffee, pre made sandwiches straight from the fridge so no flavour, we left half of them. The cakes Ok, but nothing to write home about. Evening meal was again OK but portion size on the main was tiny. Room was acceptable but condensation from not having double glazing was starting to leave a musty wood smell in the room when the heating kicked in. Overall up keep of the hotel decor was poor, a decent maintenance manager would be all over the lifting wall paper and paint chips. The breakfast was acceptable but the service was poor on both days, with us having to ask staff to take our order and fill the empty juice and pastry tray. If you like barely seen the toaster cold toast you'll enjoy that here. The drinks are as you would expect price wise. Only issue we had was the mixers came out flat and we sent drinks back twice. On checkout we noticed a service charge which we had removed, the service wasn't good, and we tip if we want. The gala evening was OK but that was mainly due to what we made of it. Would we bother again, No!
- jessicabR773FE (4/5): Spa great, hotel not so. - We stayed at Rowton Hall Hotel & Spa for a one-night break with spa access. Unfortunately, while the spa itself was a highlight, the overall hotel experience was very disappointing. The spa was clean and relaxing, and the food there was genuinely excellent — the crispy beef salad and chicken wings were absolutely delicious and easily the best part of our stay. However, the hotel side fell well below expectations. Our room shower did not work at all, which was unacceptable. Dinner in the evening was only passable; my main course was particularly poor and resembled a soupy, undercooked cookie dough in texture. To make matters worse, despite us having pre-paid £60 towards the meal, the waiter attempted to take full payment again, which was frustrating and awkward. There was also a wedding event taking place, with loud music continuing until midnight. This significantly affected our stay and unfortunately worsened my wife’s migraine, making it very difficult for her to rest. Breakfast the following morning was nice, but afternoon tea on the second day was again only passable and didn’t feel special or worth the price. Overall, while the spa staff and facilities were good, the hotel service, food quality, and lack of consideration for guests not attending events left us disappointed. Sadly, we would not recommend staying here and would not return

- P7823BYkatyr (2/5): Not a Relaxing Spa Experience, No Response to complaints - My friend and I booked a morning spa day at Rowton Hall, expecting a relaxing experience. Unfortunately, it was anything but. When we arrived to use the pool, there was a very loud aqua aerobics class taking place, with music playing at a high volume and the pool almost completely taken over by the class. It was impossible to relax or even have a conversation. This was not disclosed at the time of booking, and had we known, we would have chosen a different day. My friend’s treatment was booked for 10:30, so by the time the class finished we only had around 10 minutes to use the pool before she had to get out and get ready. The pool was also very cold, which made it even less enjoyable. Overall, the experience did not match what was advertised or what you would expect from a spa day at this price point. I contacted the hotel numerous times afterwards to raise a complaint and request a resolution, but my email was ignored, which has only added to the disappointment. Sadly, I wouldn’t return or recommend the spa based on this experience.
- Liverpoolman (10/5): Lovely Hotel - We stayed for one Sunday night at this lovely hotel . Arrived quite early and was asked if we wanted to have a coffee and the room will be ready asap. Well, it was ready within 15mins of arriving. Thank you to the very friendly and efficient receptionist . We had booked a superior room and were kindly upgraded to a premium room which was lovely . We attended a function that afternoon local to hotel and arrived back at 9:30pm. Went into the bar/lounge which was quiet being a Sunday evening and Dev the barman organised hot chocolate and Churros even at that time . What a lovely chap he was ! Enjoyed a good nights sleep , an early morning visit to the excellent spa followed by a nice breakfast . Every member of staff we met were very friendly and efficient. What more can you ask ! Definitely see you again .
- MarjorieA83 (10/5): Group Festive Lunch - A party of 57 Maghull and Lydiate u3a had a Festive Lunch here on the 10th December. From my initial enquiry to the event itself everything was great. We dined in a lovely room with views over the garden, the food was very good and Staff were really nice and very efficient. We don't live locally but we will be back.
- U1195GGlindaj (6/5): Christmas Wreath Making Afternoon with Festive Cream Tea. Great activity but disappointing refreshments - On Sunday I attended a 4 hour event at Rowton Hall described as a Christmas Wreath Making Afternoon with Festive Cream Tea & refreshments. It transpires that a cream tea is defined as a scone, served with jam & cream and a hot beverage. Many attendees, including myself, had expected something more substantial such as a full afternoon tea especially as 2 hours had been allocated to this part of the event. The actual 2 hours of wreath making was good fun with lots of support from the event organisers and plenty of varied materials we achieved surpringly beautiful results. But it was definitely an afternoon of 2 halves. A disappointing festive cream tea and a fun activity. I think more clarity around what refreshments were included would have been welcomed by all and would have avoided disappointment on the day. My advice is to eat before you attend.
- sianc315 (6/5): Definitely not 4 star - The hotel is tired and the bedrooms need some serious attention. Our room had mould all over the single glazed windows, as well as in the shower and other parts of the bathroom. The curtains were hanging off the rails. Marks and dirt over the walls and the very tired furniture, which was chipped and worn. Light bulbs out in the room and the shower. Very basic cheap biscuits in the room. It was also very cold and we had to plug a heater in all the time. The quality of the food in the bar wasn’t great, and the cobwebs on the ceiling above our table were quite some sight. The continental breakfast was ok and the cooked items were better, although I sent back my almost raw bacon to be cooked more. Trying to order a green tea at breakfast was a challenge, and in the end I gave up and just asked for earl grey, which took 20 minutes on the second day and came after our hot food. On the first night we were woken at 1.30am by two men in dressing gowns trying all the doors in the corridor and being very persistent in trying to gain access to our room. On the second night, the fires alarm was set off at 10.30pm. The bed was quite comfortable and the staff were friendly. The receptionist listens to our concerns when we left and offered some money off the stay. At over £400 for what was a special birthday weekend, it was really disappointing. Unfortunately we won’t return.

The pool is lovely, we had an amazing hot stone massage, and we loved the sensory room we went in after the treatment. We will definitely be booking another! It is really good priced and worth every penny, the staff are really friendly
- Dessigie (6/5): From Great to not so good! - I would break down our trip into three categories: Spa, Restaurant and accommodation. The Spa: I had the best facial I’ve ever had from Therapist Amanda and could not recommend her more. She was not only professional and friendly but so caring and kind. Another treatment by the lovely Lindsey was also a real treat. The restaurant: dinner was great with a great menu, incredibly flavourful dishes, really delicious stuff. The staff were excellent. Accommodation: Quite surprised for a SPA 4* hotel there were no slippers or robes in the room, slippers had to be requested from reception and the robes had to be hired from the spa. My room was shabby. It was definitely not 4* there was mould on the window sill, the curtain was off the rails, the shower was not good and the towels were two *. I had one turn down service over a three night stay and when it happened on my last night my used water bottle and used water glass were not replaced and bathroom bin not emptied. I returned a few pieces of crockery and glassware which were chipped and/or dirty in the restaurant and bar during our stay. Disappointed with the cleanliness and overall state of my room.
- I6745UZcraigt (6/5): Spa & food 👍🏻 Rooms & cleanliness 👎🏻 - The Spa was great and the treatment I had was first class. My therapist was Casey and she was brilliant. The food in the hotel restaurant was also very good. Staff were very friendly. However the room was a let down, rather grubby and dirty, uncared for with hairs in one of coffee cups, dirty upholstery, crumbling paint work on the side of the bath, battered toilet seat. Dirty glasses in the restaurant and chipped crockery ruined how good the food was. Was such a shame as clearly the spa and food was a priority over the rooms and general cleanliness.

Very polite and helpful staff including the cleaners who ensured hotel was cleaned daily. The spa was loveley and I had a loveley massage by Amanda who deserves an extra shoutout. She is very caring compassionate and experienced. My only negative was how cold it was in the day in the room, the heating don't come on until later and for some reason the hot water was not as hot as I would like it so i could not enjoy my shower. The food prices are a little steep but this is normal I have found within these hotels Overall the whole weekend was amazing and I would go back to a welcoming environment. If I was gettin married I would choose this place too :) but I'm not so I enjoyed the surroundings in hope one day. Chester Town is only a 10 min drive too so we was able to enjoy Chester.

Staff are friendly enough, but with little enthusiasm and energy needed for the hospitality industry. Breakfast adequate and surroundings delightful. Damp in our room with the wallpaper coming away, we reported it and they apologised, but it had to have been spotted before.
- 51JoyT (6/5): Some disappointing aspects but some great bits - Visited recently for a birthday weekend and stayed in an apartment. Check in was good and Steve explained how things worked and showed us to our room. He was friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and the area. The apartment was clean but the plugs in the hsndbasins didn't work so you had to keep the rap on constantly. The plug also leaked in the bath so we had to constantly refill the bath. The curtains were in parts falling off the rails and the chair covers badly stained. A positive the bed was lovely and comfortable and the temperature warm and toasty. The spa is amazing and the best part of the hotel run by friendly staff, clean and well equipped. Breakfast good, a range of dishes hot and cold good portion size and well presented. A few bits of TLC would make this an amazing hotel.

Let the rest of the hotel down, otherwise generally quite nice. - Stayed in a standard room for one night for a wedding at the hotel. Room was a nice size. Typical older building with older windows and corridors, wood panelling etc. Worst bit was the room itself had a significant number of issues/faults! I was not happy! I had to make a compaint to reception and showed them all the faults with the room. The socket beside the bed didn't work, the bathroom sink taps were not tightened to the unit so massively wobbly, the shaver socket was caved in, the toilet wasn't bolted to the floor so tip over if you leaned away, the shower plug hole cover wasnt correct so didnt fit, the shower controls were fixed to the wall so flopped about, and the shower pipe to the shower head was almost falling out of the wall. The main room door was also difficult to close fully (if I was an elderly person I dont think I could have got it closed!). The manager did come and see and take note for maintenance. No refund or discount was offered though. This was for a £188 a night, without breakfast! Which was a further £15. So a £200 a night room. Not worth it in my opinion. I wouldnt be back again regardless of the issues, but definitely wouldnt bother again even if in the area. The rest of the hotel seemed nicely decorated and a nice place to hold a wedding. Breakfast food was nice. But the room let it down!

The part which really let the stay down was the quality of the room. For £200 a night I would expect much better quality. The mattress was really old, wallpaper peeling off, bugs on the ceiling, window was ancient and drafty, bathroom wall next to soap dispensers was horrible and there was visible dirt around the bathroom vent and carpets.
- F2913NNkathyl (6/5): Overall Good. - On arrival, we were greeted by Steve at reception, who was absolutely fantastic – welcoming, informative, and very helpful. He truly set the tone for the stay and honestly deserves a raise. 🛏️ The Room The room itself was okay. As others have mentioned, the carpet was a little stained, and a few bathroom tiles were cracked. That said, it was clean overall. The main issue we had was the lack of towels – for a double room we were only given one hand towel and one bath towel, which isn’t sufficient for two guests. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, the pillows soft and fresh, and I quite liked the touch of antique furniture. 🍽️ Lounge & Restaurant Unfortunately, this is where things dipped. The bar and waiting staff seemed very inexperienced. There were several issues: menus given out incorrectly, drinks dropped, menus taken away before we’d even ordered, and staff unable to explain dishes when we asked questions. It was disappointing because the food itself (evening meal) was actually good, but the service let the kitchen down. 🥞 Breakfast Breakfast also had hiccups. Our food arrived cold, and there wasn’t a waiter or waitress in sight – I had to go and find someone myself. To their credit, they fixed the issue once raised, but there were no check-ins during service. I also noticed the table next to us being ignored by staff (possibly by mistake, but still not ideal). 💆 Spa The spa experience was much better. Amanda gave a wonderful massage, and the treatment rooms were clean, fragrant, and relaxing. The facilities overall were good, though smaller than expected, so it did get busy quickly. That said, during quieter times it was peaceful and enjoyable. The steam room and sauna were on the small side, but perfectly fine when not crowded.

- W5712WSjow (10/5): A Wonderful Stay at a Beautiful Country Retreat - From start to finish, our stay at Rowton Hall was amazing. We arrived early and enjoyed drinks and a delicious lunch in the bar. The reception host was wonderful – so welcoming and helpful – and she let us know as soon as our room was ready, which wasn’t a long wait at all. Our garden room was beautiful, spotlessly clean, warm, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The spa experience was another highlight – the facilities were lovely and well-kept, and the treatments were professional and to a very high standard. Madeline’s massage was one of the best I’ve had in a long time (I only wish it could have been longer!). The spa and front desk staff were genuinely attentive, always checking in to make sure we were happy. Dinner in the evening was delicious and cooked perfectly, and breakfast the following morning was just as good. Overall, the food and service throughout our stay were excellent. A couple of small points of feedback: the jacuzzi and pool could have been a touch warmer, and the robe hire fee (£7.50 if not a spa day guest) felt a little high – perhaps this could be reduced or included for guests. Also, while the cocktails on draft were fine, it would have been lovely to have an espresso martini freshly made. That said, none of this took away from what was a truly wonderful stay. Rowton Hall is a beautiful venue with gorgeous grounds, excellent service, and great value for money. I would definitely book to come again!

- 259SarahP (6/5): A nice hotel with average rooms - We paid £190 B&B rate to stay in a Garden View room with our dog. The hotel on the whole seemed well maintained and the gardens were lovely. The room however was quite tired looking and did not have a garden view at all, it was also quite small as was the bathroom. It had patio doos that opened onto a patio and seating area outside the Orangery and not straight into the garden as I had expected. It was quiet but I’m not sure it would be if there was an event in the Orangery. The shower is at a fixed height so if you are over 5’10’’ you’ll need to squat down to wash your hair. The beds were quite uncomfortable and seemed old too. All the staff we met were friendly and welcoming and breakfast was good. We were limited on a choice of hotel as we needed on site parking. For the price we paid I had expected more

I booked the 1st floor apartment, we have stayed in this apartment several times and love it. We had bed, breakfast and evening meal. Included in the package was a 25 minute treatment. We chose hit stones wich was lovely. We arrived early and had lunch outside as it was a beautiful day. Once we had checked in we headed down the spa and spent a few hours relaxing. It was a Sunday so we had a roast dinner wich was delicious. We both chose chocolate brownies for dessert. The brownies are the best, we both always look forward to them. We have stayed here lots of times over 14years and love the place. Food is delicious and the staff are always lovely, friendly and greeting. This was the venue we married in last March and that day was absolutely amazing. We will always return here. It's our favourite Spa break
- jayneperris0 (6/5): Not A Quality Experience. - We stayed for one night for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast & a spa treatment. We probably should have expected what we got for the price. We booked direct & on line & received numerous emails which were disjointed in that they did not reflect the full extent of our booking, i.e. an initial email only regarding the room booking which prompted me to ring the hotel to check that they also had our booking for dinner & our spa treatment. They were unable to confirm the spa treatment & asked that I ring again & select the option to be put through to the Spa. Further to this I then received a second email regarding our meal and a third regarding our spa treatment. They need to co-ordinate their offerings & communications. On arrival they again were unable to confirm all of the details of our booking at Reception. Our twin room was too full of furniture, 3 chairs & 4 cupboards, dated & knocked about - marked wallpaper & dirty window frames. The bathroom was clean & we had nice white fluffy towels but two of the floor tiles were cracked in the centre of the floor & there were cracks in the woodwork in the bathroom & it was generally dated. The spa is also tired but we had nice treatments. Normally when having a spa the hotel provides robes in the room or in the locker in the spa itself. We were not able to get hold of a robe unless we paid £7. Dinner was ok, good service, the food was hot & served on hot plates but was more like pub food rather than in a proper restaurant. We sat outside on the terrace after dinner which was a lovely spot. Breakfast was like faulty towers, the waiting team were all over the place: No orange in the juice bottles, no glasses for juice, no butter on the tables, no marmalade, no bowls for cereal, we asked for brown toast & got mixed, we ordered an omelette which came with a different filling than we ordered, we asked for tomato sauce & it never arrived. All this & it wasn't particularly busy. The food itself was very good though. Overall not a 4* experience.

All the staff within the spa were friendly and professional. The changing rooms, the pool and the treatment rooms were all clean. Our bedroom was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We chose to have dinner in their restaurant, the food was delicious, beautifully presented and the staff were very friendly and the service was good. We decided to order a room service breakfast, it arrived at the exact time we had agreed, the food was still hot and was very tasty. My only comment about the whole stay is the receptionist on check in could have described how to get to the bedroom a bit more clear. Overall a lovely stay and will definitely return. Thank you.

I stayed for two nights for work, during my stay I managed to make the most of the gym, pool, restaurant and most importantly the bar. The staff were brilliant nothing was too much trouble for them. The food for breakfast and dinner was excellent, I had steak both nights and it was incredible. I stay regularly in Chester so will certainly be using every time from now on. Booked again next week with colleagues despite being slightly further to travel simply because of the friendly atmosphere, great staff and facilities. Thank you

- Hayley (4/5): - We Stayed at the weekend, on check in we wasn’t given the garden view room that we paid for. They had a private party at the hotel, not a problem we don’t mind music. But when other guests arrive back to their room at 1am shouting down the corridors and you can hear every word they say because the walls are paper thin! Then yes I have a problem. We hardly slept and had a long journey home the next day. At Breakfast I ordered a bacon cob when it arrived I had a sausage cob and the waitress made a scene instead of just excepting she made a mistake, so I just excepted the sausage even though it wasnt what I ordered. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again.

The evening meal was really nice we had the Sunday roast Chicken and Pork and a gorgeous home made blackcurrant cheesecake and a bottle of rose wine. The staff where very attentive. You can use the Gym and spa facilities Breakfast was a good buffet choice and a hot meal to order and cooked fresh would definitely stay again.

- Welshboio (2/5): Worst Breakfast Ever - Breakfast was absolutely disgusting, no words can describe. Started off with the toast, no butter, the bread was as thin as an Ethiopian. Then to the main course, I ordered a full cooked and my wife ordered dippy eggs,, mmmmm the mushroom my knife could not cut through, the black pudding was severely burnt like it had been sunbathing for a week before placed on my plate, beans where ok though. My wife’s dippy eggs were hard not dippy. Other observations, table cloth stained, small jam pot and marmalade were half full from previous table guests. We complained In all fairness to the manager we only had to pay £14.95 which in my opinion was too much but I can honestly say I’ll never set foot in that place again.

The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious, and the spa was just what we needed. Since our last visit, we could see how much the place has improved. The restaurant and bar have had a lovely refurb — stylish yet still really comfortable and welcoming. The room rate was excellent value and absolutely worth what we paid. I’d happily recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying. We enjoyed it so much that next time we’re coming back with the whole family.
- kmC2544HT (6/5): Rooms need major update - We booked one night in a double room for my birthday. Upon arriving the receptionist was welcoming and kind and got us checked in quick, informing us about facilities etc. Once arriving to our room, we were soon dissapointed. Carpets needed taking out and new carpets needed. Stains all on the curtains, bugs in the room on the walls, walls had multiple amounts of scratches and marks, stains on bathroom floor and a hole in the bathroom wall. Quality of the room was shocking for the price, although the bedding was clean. We took pictures of the room and went down to the reception to ask for a room change. Im not one to complain but i work in a hotel myself and the quality of the room was shocking. The receptionist was very understanding and offered her apologies, then upgraded us to the superior suite room. This was much appreciated and when arriving in the room, the quality was much better. Although still marks on the walls had multiple and stains on the carpet, the room was much bigger and modern. Spa facilities were okay. We did not eat at the hotel so cant comment on that, however the staff aroumd the hotel were polite and professional. Customer service was great and could not fault it, just a shame that the rooms didn’t match this high standard. £119 for the room we were originally staying in is an appalling price, wouldn’t stay again. Understand this is none of the staffs fault however I think the hotel rooms need to be refurbished & updated.

- enileuqcaJJ (8/5): Disappointing & Tired - This was a return visit to Rowton Hall 2 years on. The welcome was not warm, the receptionist merely wanting to take our money before showing us the room, nor did she ask if we had had a pleasant journey or come far (4 1/2 hr drive). In fact, no pleasantries whatsoever. We had booked the Fairfax room (premier room) for 3 nights, which is large with a very comfortable queen size bed & high quality linen & pillows, but the room is generally a little tired. An armchair in the room needs attention (see photo). The shower is not the one shown on the web, it is small as the bath takes up most of the space. The shower surround is also in need of attention (see photo). The pool in the spa is lovely, the showers are much better there. The net curtain at the window of the bathroom was mouldy in places & needs to be replaced (see photo). The carpet was stained in many places, (see photos). Why not spot clean before the next guest arrives? We asked for a bulb that was not working in a dressing table lamp to be replaced on the first day & the second, this had not been attended to by the time we left after 3 nights. The 3 pin plug sockets on the walls by the bed were not working. We were told they were waiting for an electrician, who did not arrive during our 3 night stay. We wanted to plug our mobile phones in overnight so had to take it in turns with the socket that was working on the other side of room. We were also kept awake one night between 1.15 & 1.45 by people moving around noisily & continuously in the room above & again on our last morning at 5.30 by the slamming of doors. I thought it was guests gong to breakfast until I saw the time! I mentioned these disturbances to another receptionist whose response was she thought I might have been hearing a ghost???? The restaurant lacks atmosphere, gone are the table cloths as shown in photos on the website, it is akin to a school dining hall x pub. Having said that the food was very good & not expensive compared to prices in the south. But most annoying of all was that we booked Dinner, Bed & Breakfast for all 3 nights not realising that you are hard pushed to use the £32 per person allowance for the evening meal. We ended up having paid more for the food than we had actually consumed! Better to book B&B & pay for your meals as taken. Breakfast held a similar surprise: full English & other dishes carried a £5 additional charge - so despite not using your full allowance on the evening meal you had to pay more for certain things at breakfast! Sorry Rowton, lovely spa you may have, but there is much which needs attention.

The service was very poor, on our first morning for breakfast we were pointed to a table and told ,"Sit there". The reception staff seemed to be the only team who really cared and tried to please the customers. The wall papers were poorly hung and peeling off. The whole building was just in need of some TLC. How it has obtained 4 stars is beyond me. The food in the restaurant was miniscule. It would do at a push for one night stays. Unfortunately we were there for ten and were glad when we left.

The relaxation room afterwards was so comfortable and we stayed in there for a while before taking advantage of the pool area. an extremely relaxing day where nothing was too much trouble for the staff. left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I called reception at 22:30 to ask if they could manage it at all. They said it was finishing soon. It finished finally two hours later at around 0:30. • checking out they tried to charge me for the room for a second time. They also added two breakfasts to my bill that I hadn’t had and disputed this with me when I tried to get them taken off the bill.

The staff at the hotel go above and beyond, never seen staff so attentive and enthusiastic too make our stay fantastic and I stay in a lot of hotels, I’ve actually stayed in lodges and hotels for over half of this year and I’m very fussy, so the fact that I’ve booked to come back for my birthday next month for 5 days says it all as we was supposed to be going to Scotland travelling but I enjoyed last weekend that much we changed our plans. I do a lot of travel reviews and I’m very honest. Rowton Hall is a fantastic hotel. We’ve not even tried the Spa yet but will do on our next visit. We had room service from the restaurant and it was absolutely delicious, served just like we was dining in the restaurant it was perfect. Julie on Reception is just fantastic, she’s goes above and beyond and nothing is to much trouble she’s a credit to Rowton Hall. Valda again on reception is also amazing and just so attentive. The serving staff from the restaurant are so polite. Just all round fantastic place and I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Thanks Rowton for looking after us 😎

- clairc_12 (10/5): Loved it! - What a fabulous find! I booked a spa day package through spa seekers for my friend and I to meet and have a girly catch up. It was perfect from start to finish We had afternoon tea which was lovely, a great selection of finger sandwiches and cake with tea, a glass of prosecco, use of the spa from 1 - 5pm with robes, towels, flip-flops and unlimited tea/coffee/water and a 25 minute treatment. We both selected for the head/neck/shoulder massage which was sooo nice. The ambience of the room was perfect. Mine was done by Violet and I couldn't fault anything of it, she was excellent. The spa is only small, the steam room, sauna and pool temperatures all good, it's very clean. The only downside there were not enough seats/beds for everyone so some groups shared. This didn't stop anyone having a nice day though We sat outside and walked around the beautiful gardens. Rowton Hall is beautiful and a credit to the staff. The staff are very nice, very attentive and professional. Overall we both had a fabulous day and would definitely return/recommend Thankyou to all the staff..it was perfect 👌

LOUNGE BAR I went to get a coffee and waited an hour to be served NO STAFF around and then when we did get served 20mins to make 2 coffees which were warm not hot RECEPTIONIST When I said that i wasn't happy with the quality of the room she was not really interested and started to tell me about the issues with the room already acknowledging there is a problem. I was told to email the the general manager who hasn't even responded or acknowledged the email. The fact that they tried to get me to upgrade and charge me more is an insult. - lynncD5443UR (10/5): Birthday celebration - the perfect location. - I chose Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa to host a celebration lunch. Both Cheryl and Sian , events organisers, couldn’t have been more helpful. The chef accommodated two vegetarians and the meal was excellent. Josh and Emily ran the service efficiently . Thoroughly recommend!
- S (4/5): Very poor think twice about booking!!!! - Booked for a romantic stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This should be a 4* hotel at best i would stay at best 2*. This is due to the very poor condition of the room (room 109). I paid £200 for a Master Suite for 1 night stay. While the room looked nice at a 1st glance there were some major issues, Damp on the walls, Mould in the bathroom around the shower, Damaged shower screen and shower, Mould above the window in the bedroom, Broken window openings, Cracked window, Stained carpets, Several mirror units which have been damaged and either taped over or chipped, Bed this has been repaired in 2 different areas (opposite corners) and have not been repaired correctly meaning the bed had a diagonal twist in it YOU DONT EXPECT THIS FROM A 4* HOTEL. Before I arrived i was asked if I wanted to upgrade my room and name my price for the upgrade. The following morning at checkout I went to settle my account and also asked when is the room due to be refurbished and the receptionist was aware of most of the problems What concerns me is they knew about the problems and still put me in there. The breakfast is extremely over priced and you have to ask for things such as butter for the toast, where are the pastries, additional apple juice as it was empty. I waited in bar area for an hour wanting a coffee while my mife was having a massage (something she did enjoy) and when she returned i had to go to the reception to ask is anyone serving drinks, another 30mins
- robertsS8579EV (2/5): Not worth the money I’m afraid - A real shame. Well I’m not one to complain much about accommodation as I’ve stayed in some dire places around the world without water or toilets but I was most annoyed at this hotel. Firstly on arrival the car parking isn’t great. But after checking in the room wasn’t safe for my child as there was broken mirrored units to which I did go to reception as ask for a different room because of this. However they said they were fully booked. Although there was rooms a saw which wasn’t occupied. Anyway they taped up some of the broken units and still there was parts which were exposed. Then then put black cloth over the unit. And the manager said he didn’t know it was broken and for the inconvenience they gave us a drink on the house. How thoughtful. But to my discovery other reviews from last year showed same unit broken. There was leaking shower in bathroom. And rotten wood. Leaks all over the ceilings bad paint work etc Windows were all dirty and broken glass. Other units broken and couch in the room was broken and full of crumbs and other peoples belongings. Stained carpets etc I didn’t even look at the mattress. To be honest I given up looking and caring although I was disappointed and spent £348 for the room for 2 nights with my partner and child that included breakfast although I had to pay for a Cheshire breakfast twice and avocado breakfast to an additional cost for some reason. Drinks were quite expensive. The garden was ok but not well kept. The paths were needing attention. The hotel in general had lots of problems with maintenance being an issue. The pool spa was disappointing as I could only take my child at their specific times which I didn’t know about as it wasn’t on their advert. All in all if I was to give their hotel a rating it would be 2 star just now with a possibility of reaching 4 if the work was put in to make it good. The staff need trained and to be attentive to guests and not disappear making guests wait for long periods on service. The cleaners need to be more attentive aswell making extra effort in cleaning affected carpets and furniture and reporting defects in the rooms. And making sure management ahead to them and fix the problems replacing furniture which is for the bin and fixing especially broken glass. If it were 4 in a bed I would have left £130 instead of £348 plus the additional amounts for a supposed upgraded breakfast. Pictures attached but gave up taking more. Thanks

- Garry (4/5): - Hotel was very old and tired needs a re decoration .The room was a superior room which had cobwebs on the inside of the windows and a leaking drainpipe outside .Because it was raining it was like a runnng tap all night bouncing off the window ledge .Then the food I ordered was cod @ £23 when it come it literally was a piece of cod in a bowl nothing else .Breakfast was paid for as part of the stay but if you want a full English it is an extra £5 never have I seen this before overall poor experience and will not stay again .
- AbbieCress4646 (10/5): Our Wedding 25th May 2025 - My husband and I booked our wedding at Rowton Hall and we had the most wonderful day ever. The staff were all fantastic, Cheryl and Sian in particular as our venue wedding planners did everything and more to make our dream day come true. They were super flexible & the Orangery refurbishment, really made the venue look even more beautiful! Amy was fantastic on the day as well as our wedding coordinator and couldn’t do enough for us. James, the manager, was also on hand and attentive to make our day go smoothly. I felt I was able to be honest and give feedback, for example my wedding dress bag was mislaid when transferring from the apartment to the bridal suite, but they ensured I got a replacement one a few days later (thank you Cheryl & Sian). From what I understand the venue had 7 weddings that week and we never felt that was the case for our special day. With so many moving parts, some things can get mislaid or whatever other minor issues, but the thing I loved most about my wedding at Rowton Hall is that I always felt they listened to me so it made me confident to ask for what I wanted etc. So many of our guests said it was a wonderful day, so thank you for making our wedding day so perfect, to the point where I wish I could just do it all over again!

The staff were amazing, especially James and Edel, they couldn't do enough for you. The new renovations made the venue even more perfect. The food from the wedding breakfast to the evening buffet you couldn't fault. Thank you to all the staff at Rowton Hall
- LovesSriLanka (4/5): Could be so good :-( - Very expensive room rate for a poor experience. The location is great, it’s a lovely old Manor House with very pretty & well maintained gardens, food was nice, that’s where the good stuff ends. The building is neglected & rooms tired, the staff are chirpy & try to help, but it’s all about hit & miss. The outside patio area which could could be such an amazing space is dirty & neglected the furniture could do with being dumped, covered in bird poo & ripped, glass & cigarette butts all over the floor, looks like it hadn’t been swept or cleaned properly in years, the whole building needed a refurb. When we checked in full payment, was taken for our 3 night stay, with no body to help with luggage, there is no lift which is understandable in a old building like Rowton, but no body even offered to help us up 4 flights of stairs with our cases. Breakfast is good but no better than a travel lodge to be honest, latte, cappuccino & full English was extra! 🤷🏼♀️ the service is not great at all. If you are booked into the Spa they do not supply robes & will charge, bizarre when they sell themselves as a Spa Hotel. Sadly lacking & so overpriced, it needs some strong management to bring it up to the experience it sells you on the website. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Food very basic but not cheap. Left jewellery on side and emailed to arrange receiving it back and been ignored (I know it was left in till). Wouldn’t return or recommend
- sarah (8/5): - Characterful hotel with lovely spa & gym facilities. The hotel is a bit dated and in need of some referbishments. Our original assigned room was not made up when we got up to it and had to go back to reception. This seemed like a complete shock to the person on reception but the dirty linens were still on the floor, the un-made duvet and pillows were thrown on the bed and there was rubbish and used items from the tea set about the room. After the receptionist made a few quick phone calls we were assigned a new room. The new room was large with a huge bathroom including a shower and separate bathtub. There were signs of wear about the room, marks on the walls, etc.... but we had a lovely stay and it was comfortable.
- I9515PPmelissar (4/5): Overall very poor service and standards - The rooms were really outdated and definitely in need of an upgrade. The rooms are clearly not maintained. There was damp patches in the corner of my room, bits of the ceiling was flaking off paint wise, the wallpaper was hanging off and the bathroom was full of stains. Overpriced room for sure and I will not be returning. The reseraunt was being run by 16 to 18 year olds from what I saw and they were running round like headless chickens. They were clearly short staffed, and overeorker. We had to wait 50 minutes for someone to take our order for breakfast even though a set time was given to us to attend. The hotel needs major improvements. The only part of the hotel that was stunning and well worth the money was the spa facilities.
- 187069Debs001 (4/5): Very disappointing, the hotel and restaurant have gone very downhill - We have stayed at Rowton Hall on a few occasions over the past few years and had a nice experience. Unfortunately the experience we had this weekend was VERY POOR. The hotel is starting to look very tired and run down, especially in the outdoor seating area just outside the bar. But the biggest disappointment was the restaurant. This is now called the Thyme restaurant which has a very unusual menu consisting of a lot of Indian dishes, but we were willing to give it a try. We booked to eat in the restaurant based on this menu as reception advised that it would be available that evening, but when we sat down we were told that the only food available was a ‘very basic and standard’ Sunday dinner menu (which is we given to us on a tatty piece of paper) consisting mainly of roast beef, fish & chips and burger. We ended up getting a taxi into Chester and having a nice dinner at Piccolinos! Luckily we hadn’t booked the dinner, bed and breakfast rate so had the flexibility of eating elsewhere. The staff at the hotel used to be very attentive, but even they don’t went to be bothered about the standard they deliver, and don’t really care. There didn’t seem to be any management running the hotel at all this weekend. It looks like Rowton Hall is concentrating mainly on weddings and now lack the service for general guests. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

- hayeuls11 (8/5): Spa day, R&R - My friend and I were booked in for a spa package. We had a great morning, facilities were great. I had a lovely relaxed facial treatment. There was a good selection on the menu for lunch. Spa staff were excellent. The only disappointment was the time we waited in the bar to order a drink, it was very quiet but no bar staff were around. It's a small thing but probably would have given 5 if that hadn't happened. Would be happy to visit again as it was a very pleasant day.

Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Lovely room overlooking the garden. Bathroom needs updating but they're obviously working hard to continually update all round. Spa and pool just perfect. Really enjoyed our stay & will definitely return in the future.

However, a special mention to the young lady on the spa reception desk I think her name was Abbie. She was amazing even with it being busy and on her own. We will be returning in the near future.
- Z4473CRvictoriaw (6/5): Disappointed - Was really looking forward to staying at what looked like a beautiful hotel on booking.com I stayed here for 4 nights on a works trip. The room was very old. There was no air conditioning and it was very hot. I had a balcony but could not use it because there was currently work being done. There were two single beds put together instead of a double. The iron and ironing board were very old. All the amenities were just out dated. On their website it states they have laundry services, however when i asked reception they didn't have it. My colleague had 2 robes in his room and his room was a lot better than mine. The second day i had trouble with my room key all day. We had breakfast included in our stay however it was £5 extra for a full english breakfast. You could get better at whetherspoons… it wasnt until our second morning we realised you could get toast. It was all over the place. Very disappointed and such a shame as it could be a beautiful hotel. The only exception is the spa and gym are very good.
- glen1 (10/5): Perfect ! - Thank you so much to everyone at Rowton Hall Hotel for helping to make my brother's 60th birthday celebrations absolutely perfect. We all had a fabulous time, the staff could not have been more welcoming and accommodating and the food was delicious. I'm already planning our next visit!
