- Theasha (8/5): Comfortable stay - This is a tranquil scenic lodge without having to drive too far out from Johannesburg. The staff are helpful, the rooms are clean and the food is good. If you are lucky you get to see the animals roaming around come up to the viewing deck to feed. Will definitely recommend for a short stay! The lodge is completely on solar so the electricity trips every now and then depending on the weather however it is manageable. Although the rooms have a rustic charm to them they do need a bit of an update.
- Antonio (2/5): Not worth it. - The setting of the lodge was very pleasant. A good variety of animal. Air conditioning working between 8 to 10 and 18 to 20 hours when the generator is on. Rest of time is solar. The wi-fi doesn’t work in bedroom.
- Hendrick (2/5): - The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet We were given a WiFi password, when we couldn't log in, and made an inquiry, we were told the network point was struck by lightning therefore we can't access WiFi. We were forever in the dark because due to inclement weather solar panels couldn't charge and as a result no electricity supply. We couldn't celebrate a birthday which was the actual reason we booked.

- Unarine (4/5): the operational aspects need improvement to ensure a more comfortable and accommodating guest experience. - The location is absolutely beautiful, and the wildlife experience was exceptional. I saw more animals than I have at many other lodges, which was truly special. The elephant interaction was also a standout moment for me, something I genuinely enjoyed and will remember. The electricity outages were a major concern. Every day from 5pm to 6pm there was no electricity, and on Saturday there was an outage from 4am to 6am. Traveling with a 9-month-old made this especially difficult, as I needed to prepare formula, boil water, and ensure some level of comfort in the dark. It also made it hard to charge phones, particularly after activities like the game drive where we had taken many photos. Additionally, I found it quite disappointing that the restaurant and bar close at 8pm. For a holiday destination, this feels very limiting, especially when guests want to relax and enjoy their evenings. On the day of checkout, we were informed that breakfast would be available until 10am. However, when we arrived at around 9:45am, the buffet had already been cleared. This felt inconsiderate and did not align with the communicated time.

What do you mean there’s giraffes on my front porch and a Bengal tiger 7 feet away from where I close my eyes at night? Superb. Superb. Superb. The staff are amazing, you feel so welcome and catered to by every single person. We traveled by uber and received a private chauffeur in the form of a game drive back to our cottage every time we needed to leave for food or activities. Jaco, Will everyone goes out their way to make you feel so welcome! 🥹 The buffet menu was underwhelming for 650 a pop

- Wim Nijlunsing (6/5): Niet weer - De dieren die aanwezig zijn en het uitzicht vanuit het restaurant op de dieren. Personeel restaurant doet hun best om het naar je zin te maken. Geen Wifi in ons verblijf. Op vaste tijden heb je spanning. De overige tijd zit je in het donker in je huis of restaurant. Wij hadden het huis met Lakevieuw waarvan de stijger zeer slecht is. Van de woning liep het water niet weg uit de wasbakken. De woning stinkt muf en de verlichting is wit / fel en niet gezellig. Het privé zwembadje was vervuild en stelt niets voor en heeft geen sfeer. Verder een behoorlijk stuk rijden over een slechte weg van restaurant naar huisje met een rommelig terrein.

Walking around not allowed. They must drive you. Few and boring TV channels. The guy who received us was bit bully. No private parking. Had to cut short my stay. 🥺🥺

Property well maintained and clean. Early checkin and late checkout was arranged for us. Unfortunately no electricity and no water during daytime between 9 am and 6 pm, therefore also no wlan. Management tries to run lodge on solar power , generator is only used few hours. No compensation offered at all , not even yet a drink. A pity.

This kind of put a damper on a much anticipated break with my Australian family.6

- Peter (10/5): We are normally “one and done” travelers, but I plan to return to this place because it is so amazing!!! - This place is incredible! There is so much beautiful scenery and so many animals! The non predators roam free. At the cottage we stayed in, we had warthogs, zebras, and an ostrich all visit us on different days. There were a lot of birds to see on the lake and we even had a visit from a bat that ate the annoying bugs. ( it didn’t come close to us). I LOVE this place!! Nothing major. The only small issue we had was that the WiFi really didn’t work well at all at the cottage. But I could get cell service from my eSIM when I stood on the deck overlooking the water. Also, the WiFi worked great at the restaurant when we ate our meals. If we stayed in the lodge, I’m sure it would have been a better signal.

- Mary (10/5): Experience of a lifetime - What an ultimate memorable experience. From beginning to end . SOO much packed into our stay and every minute was amazing We arrived and had lunch , delicious food and top class service, then fed the elephants on the deck which was a lifetime experience and spent time on the deck , our accommodation was amazing and absolutely beautiful. We ended our visit with the most amazing experience anyone could ask for , Shanon our ranger took us to walk with the elephants, Hannah Three and Marty , the Rangers that look after the elephants were so knowledgeable and we learned soo many things about the elephants. - Munyaradzi (2/5): Was not good for my family at all. - Animals Was given an apartment which was full of trouble, 80% of the appliances wasn't working while I had kids, the worst part is one of the stuff told me on my last day that that specific apartment wasn't being used for a long time due to its problem.. electricity goes every 2nd hour and if u don't know I will think it's loadshedding. Will never go there again in my entire life..will rather go to Dikhololo every year than to miss creating memories and wasting money like that.. this place maybe accommodate day visits not stay.

- Charmaine (2/5): Lack of basic services (water and electricity) made for a highly uncomfortable stay. - The animal encounters and game drives Air conditioners weren’t working properly, no power in rooms, power coming on/off throughout the night, no water to shower at night or flush toilet. Power only came on after 8am and water flowing 30 minutes later. Broken hair dryer in room. Overall, not worth the high rates charged. Basic services like water being cut off is not acceptable. Random power cuts e en though a generator was used as a back-up caused me and my family to have sleepless nights due fan/air-conditioner starting only to stop less than a minute later. This went on throughout the night. With the power its security walked around with string flashlights which was scary as they randomly appeared and disappeared. I was very disappointed. The lack of basic services had us scrambling to have showers before check-out time at 10am which the receptionist advised we have until 10:30am to check out. This after the power and water finally came on around 8:45am at which point we went to have breakfast but only half the items was available due to power issues in the kitchen. No compensation or discount was offered despite the lack of basic services. Needless to say we won’t be back.

- Keith (5/5): Passable - We liked the location and scenery. The views were stunning. We liked the animals wandering around the lions roaring at night. The activities were good. We enjoyed the sunset safari trail and fed the elephants. We were there for our son and daughter in law's wedding which was perfect for them. Everyone said that they had a wonderful time. The staff were organised and helpful and even fed the animals at specific times to ensure fantastic photo shots. The food was basic; breakfast was pleasant. We were disappointed with 'Rhodes Suite'. As parents of the groom at this amazing wedding venue, we had no wardrobe or rail to hang our suit and gown. We had to live out of the suitcases for the duration of our stay. Fine for a safari. Not for a wedding venue. On the day of the wedding we had no hot water to shower and get ready. The hairdryer that was supplied did not work and although we asked for a replacement it did not turn up; they admitted that they forgot. If we'd had a working hairdryer, there were no sockets near mirrors. A big disappointment to a mum trying to look nice for her son's big day and lots of family photos. For 2 days of our stay we had no hot water and no electricity, no explanation or apologies. The day after the electricity was repaired my partner put the socket on for a cuppa (there was no switch on the kettle) and got an electrical shock from the faulty double socket. When we looked the electric was arcing from the kettle socket to the other socket. I told reception what had happened and the lady said 'Oh that is very bad' and then contacted the electricians. After about 4 hours we were able to return to our suite, reception told us that the back of the socket which supplied the air conditioning had melted and caused the fault. I spoke with a manager afterwards because no one had checked or asked if my partner was alright after the shock. (Her jaw had clenched she had a metallic taste in her mouth, felt nauseous and had a thumping headache for a few hours). Their response was 'oh dear'. Because I felt ignored and slighted I then questioned about compensation. I was offered the cab fare back to the airport. I had already paid this, so refused. They said they would email me. They have not. Health & safety is important in the UK; not the case in all countries but you don't expect to get an electrical shock in your hotel room and then treated as if it were a normal occurrence .

- Geoffrey (10/5): If your'e looking for a really authentic African game lodge experience go to Glen Afric - Love the location, you really do feel like you're in Africa here. Been here so many times before but this was our first stay. Really enjoyed being at Glen Afric and could only say it was perfect for us but if you want more perfect facilities of an upmarket hotel then go there. My first choice would always be Glen Afric. Lovely restaurant and very nice pool. Not much really, lighting could be a bit better in the room we were in but overall we loved it all

- Gareth (9/5): Fantastic venue, home of Wild at Heat set which I really feel the venue should make more of. - Such a lovely welcome, setting was beautiful, and room amazing, Food in restaurant was superb Service in bar/restaurant in the evening was not as friendly as we received everywhere else across venue.
- Gray (6/5): The accommodation was comfortable with potential but there is a feeling uninterest from some staff. - The breakfast was great and the waitress was wonderful and friendly. Environment, the view was pleasant. I enjoyed watching the ducks at play. Room was very comfortable and clean. Thank you. Receptionist - The two ladies sitting around the reception were friendly - I think hey may have been game guides. Breakfast - However there were other guests near us who insisted on watching annoying Youtubes or videos on their mobile phone, very loudly which made the whole experience unpleasant for everyone else. Not the fault of Glen Afric. Room - there was no hot water for a shower/bath in the morning. Very disappointing. Reception - however the actual receptionist was not friendly or welcoming at all. She appeared that she was not interested in her job at all. We will not be back and will not refer the lodge to others until things improve there. It is comfortable but we felt there is still potential but it seems like there is a general lack of interest in upkeeping the hospitality. Certainly not value for money as it is right now. Some staff is excellent but others sadly lacking in friendliness and welcoming attitudes.

- Bathabile (5/5): Underwhelming, overpriced, bad food. - The rooms were spacious. Entry view/garden looks nice. Hot water in our 1 room. The security guy was helpful, and kind. We came back after the “curfew” and he was kind enough to open for us and ask if we’ll reach our rooms okay or if we need him to show us the way again. The restaurant!!! The food we had for lunch took long, and the chicken wings we had were horrible, they were old and stale. The plates and glasses weren’t clean clean. Breakfast was also horrible, no taste at all. Then you had to wait for long for the waiter show face we needed to ask for salt, by the time we helped ourselves to the salt that the other guests had on their table, our food was cold. The shower in the other room (chalet) was old and the water was either boiling hot or freezing cold, no midpoint balance. The Chalet was dark, very dusty and didn’t smell fresh. This place is overpriced.

Only like Marko, he was the only friendly and good waiter/staff member Other staff not friendly, worse experience when watching the Springboks, the regulars were very rude, couldn't get a good view of the TV, the waiter was very poor in terms of service, Dstv channels not enough (expected a lot more for what we paid), no kids activities on site (something you must consider)

- Diane (3/5): Disappointing stay - The unit was not clean The unit is old and not maintained especially around the bath and shower Bath and shower was filthy Plug in bath did not release after use All glasses were filthy The mattresses by pool at the manor cottage were filthy smelly and torn. The price paid was definitely not worth it. There was a dishwasher but with a sign on it not to be used! There was 1 dirty pan and 1 pot available. No plug in sink either I should have asked for a refund based on our experience Definitely not fully equipped The double bed linen specifically the Duvet was supposed to be white..but it was more like colour dyed or washed with other colours

Zelke, Melody, Mita, Max, and the rest of the staff whose names have now slipped my mind were incredible and made for a truly amazing stay. George and his team who look after the elephants are amazing and of course the star of the show 'Three' and her 2 daughters are magnificent. I highly recommend the walk with elephants and the sunset drive with a bottle of bubbles. A truly magnificent place. My 3rd visit and hopefully not my last. A magnificent gem, but where was Amanda? 😁

- Alistair (9/5): fully immersive game reserve - Glen Afric provided a very family friendly location for complete immersion on a game reserve, we had giraffes/elephants/ zebras calmly walking around the property. Definitely would recommend. Note: Elephant feeding is only on Sunday lunchtime. Nothing to really complain about, was perfect for what we wanted.

- Charlotte (10/5): The most beautiful place to stay. - The photos and reviews of this place do not do it justice! The location is perfect - not too far from Hartes & Johannesburg. We hired a car to get there from Randburg and it was an easy and fun experience (we hired from Bluu cars). The hotel itself is STUNNING. It has everything you need; a gorgeous serene pool, plenty of spots to sit and relax overlooking the amazing views, stunning nature, plenty of places to enjoy the most delicious food I have ever had in my life and all the wildlife! On our first evening we were having dinner at the restaurant and saw a Zebra walking by - then in the morning a giraffe greeted us while we were having breakfast - plus so much more. The staff are SO friendly and helpful and its very secure - there are guards patrolling 24/7 and keeping you safe.

- Ian (9/5): Wished we'd stayed a bit longer - Charming and interesting location. Traditional but well maintained hotel, huge restaurant with lovely views to a duck pond and garden below, then out to a marvellous vista leading to nearby hills. Zebras and Giraffes came good and close to the property fence at times. Staff friendly and helpful, especially our guide Nadia and the bubbly young lady serving dinner then breakfast on 8 and 9 November respectively. Nadia also took us to the "Wild At Heart" house set, which we loved. Interesting and fun game drive, seeing nearby elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, warthogs and (in enclosures) lions, cheetahs, leopards and (pet rescue) tigers. Nothing really.

- Pirleen (2/5): Would not recommend - It was situated near the places we visited. The room was very spacious and decorated well. There was blood on the sheet on our bed, the pool was filthy so we could not use it, and the bathroom smelled of urine. We also couldn't pick up any wifi in the room, although it should have been accessible.
- Shanae (9/5): Superb - The staff went above and beyond, being exceptionally helpful in guiding us to our room. They made our anniversary truly memorable by adding a special touch, with no additional charges. They adorned the bed with delicate flower petals and skillfully crafted towels into swan shapes forming a heart. The service at the restaurant for our dinner was a tad sluggish took long to serve us and did not check up on us if we wanted to order additional drinks ect.
