Guest Reviews
- De Jager (7/5): Friendly staff with clean rooms - Friendly staff Room bathroom tiles and paint is coming off, aircon and tv not fully operational.
- Stewart (7/5): - The staff was very warm and friendly. There was no bar fridge in the rooms as shown on the fotos. Tap leaked in bathroom. Small shower and 2nd room ONLY a bath. Not enough towels. Did get when we asked. TV did not work in one room.

- Ciska (7/5): Enjoyable - Breakfast was superb All good
- Mandie (9/5): Old country charm with very friendly staff. - It has an old country charm. It was very central to everything we needed. The staff were so friendly. They made our stay even better. It is in desperate need of upgrade. The bathrooms need new tiles and just a general upgrade. Electric plugs are needed closer to the bed and some bed lights will be a good addition.

- Jacques (7/5): - The Staff here is AWESOME!! They go out of their way to make your stay unforgettable!!! The Lodge is old, but it has character!!! I liked it and will go back..... N/A
- Kay-Lee (1/5): Absolutely terrible service, no assistance when - The location was fine.
We were handed the keys and from there absolutely no assistance and no one answering the phones for help.
There was no fridge in the one room and only one towel for two people.
The remote did not work for the gate and when hooting the security came out after about 30 minutes when we already had police stopping and trying to assist.
We woke up to closed gates at reception with no water facilities to shower and get done and no staff to assist. There was no breakfast and no staff with a locked gated reception area by 08h30.
Absolutely terrible service and facilities. We were in the area for a funeral and with all grieving, we did not have a good experience at all. The service, facilties and assistance required
- Catherine le Roux (9/5): - Staff was very friendly. We enjoyed sitting at the bar, having a drink with local farmers. The pizza we ate wat very good as well as the breakfast. Would come back to stay here again. Aircon in room was great! Maybe some shaded parking would be nice.

- Charl (1/5): Not so good! - I booked about 15 days in advance and paid the full price in advance, two days before the time The Hamlet called me and asked me if it would be ok if they arrange alterative accommodation for me as the group staying there want to extend their stay. I aggreed to it provided that the accommodation is the same as what I paid for and the manager said she woul call me back. As I did not receive a call from the the next day I called back and they said the other accommodatio is too expensive but they will call me back, which did not happen again. I then drove through to Ceres and went to The Hamlet first to find out what the situation is an they said they found a place in Ceres but it only accommodates 4 people but I booked for 6. We decided to go see where and what it is like and the owner of 15 on Carson Guest house was very friendly an accommodating so we decided to stay there rather. The fact that they made a double booking and only contacted me 2 days before arrival and lied about the double booking, but then never followed up after that, I had to follow up with them!!

- Peet (1/5): See above - Ive booked in and booked out immediately. I asked for a refund but did not receive any feedback yet. The staff are very friendly. But I was supposed to meet clients in the restaurant. There was a private function that made it impossible. The fotos on their website and on bookings website and the reality is worlds apart See above

- Anesisa (10/5): - The service was very good and it was very peaceful and silent.
- Desiree (10/5): Dinner, bed and breakfast - It was clean, and the bed was perfect. The shower was good. Breakfast was amazing. No complaints
- Somjen (10/5): - Mike thank you for a pleasant visit to you and all your staff.
- Phillip (7/5): - Good service, friendly staff, clean rooms & linen. Awesome Awesome Awesome breakfast 👌 I will recommend everyone to have a omelet for breakfast though
- Joan (1/5): Extremely Disappointing Stay. Unsafe, Unhygienic, not worth it - Extremely Disappointing Stay. Unsafe, Unhygienic, and Misrepresented
I would not recommend The Hamlet Country Lodge (Prince Hamlet) to anyone. This establishment is unsafe, unclean, and completely misrepresented online.
I paid for two people. Due to the unacceptable conditions, only one person ended up staying. I had to swap out my own accommodation to ensure my guest, Dr. Bailey, had somewhere halfway decent to sleep.
The room was booked as a queen bed, but we were given a double bed, with only one worn-out towel provided. The bedding had visible stains. The headboard and furniture were filthy and outdated. The shower corners were grimy. To make things worse, I had to fumigate the bed with Doom due to the poor level of cleanliness. It was the only way I felt safe to let someone sleep on it.
Despite advertising safe accommodation, the back entrance was left open, allowing uncontrolled access to the property. At 10 p.m., a guest entered and started playing the piano loudly, disturbing the peace with no regard for others.
The passage carpets are filthy. This is a serious concern for anyone with sinus or dust sensitivities. Shockingly, we saw a guest lying in bed with the room door to the hallway wide open, completely exposed to passersby.
The included breakfast was poor quality and not worth it. The rooms are located next to the parking area and the main road. Noise was constant throughout the night. On arrival, we had to wait outside at a gate that resembles a prison entrance. No one was at reception and the doorbell was broken.
Adding to the concern, the room had loose, hanging plug points, which raised serious safety issues.
This place does not meet basic hospitality standards and should not be listed on Booking.com or any reputable platform. The entire experience was uncomfortable and unacceptable. It was definitely not worth the money or the stress.
- Ndawonde (10/5): Exceptional -
- Otto (4/5): Very dissapointed - Breakfast was great! Bed was old and uncomfortable. Shower was dirty and very small. No towels and no Bed lamps. Everything is old. Curtains look terrible. Bathroom Curtains torn and dirty. Room very cold

- Neil (2/5): Very poor -
- Rian (5/5): Passable - good
- Loren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Smith (9/5): Superb -
- Rachel (10/5): Open to considering - The staff is very friendly ,you feel welcome and at home The twin beds do not sleep well as couples.
The couple was unhappy with my booking
,as I was asking for double beds.
But there was no response
On my booking were two double beds rooms ,and one twin. Which I ask for the twin to be changed for a double as we were adults
Thats the reason that we might not have booked again there...if you can't serve our request as adults
- Gerhard (7/5): Good -
- Folley (8/5): Very good -
- Adriana (7/5): Good -
- Serena (10/5): Hamlet garden of eden - Atmosphere... it's like been with old friends.. you feel so at home, everyone is treated with love and respect.. you just can't help coming back.. the food is out of this world.. if there is anything wrong with this property you won't find it because the food, service, friendliness and love makes up for it.. Michael is beyond his skills in taking care of every guest.. most adorable human being ever and his team are much like him.. just a bunch of beautiful people.. I'll never stop going back... ♥ That I could not stay longer 😂

- Bonginkosi (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location and Good stuff communication I wish everyone can visit Everything is perfect and lovely
- Sobantu (10/5): Exceptional - Everything I wasn't aware the location is far from where I was going to attend an event.
- Barbara (9/5): Superb - Clean comfy room No kitchen facility as described in the ad.
- Elsabe01 (4/5): Could have been better, if staff is better trained. - Breakfast was good. Staff not professional. Wated a long time for breakfast to be served. Staff was making noise at 24H00. My husband went to talk to them. Chaos with the drinks bill. Bathroom ceilings and shower full of milldew. Maintenance to be kept up.
- Elsabe01 (3/5): Poor - Breakfast was acceptable Service of personnel not up to standard. Personnel still noisy at 24h00. We had to silence them. Bathrooms need maintenance. Lots of milldew in showers and ceilings. Hotel needs all over upgrade
- Wagner (6/5): Pleasant - The quaintness, the friendly staff and chilled atmosphere One can accept that it"s an old hotel, but the bathrooms are in dire need of an upgrade.
Quality control is essential when getting rooms ready. We did not have towels in our rooms.
There was also a misunderstanding amongs staff and manager on bfast time, but that was sorted. Communication is key and they could've just called us.
Staff should refrain from making noise when they wrap up for the evening. It was around 23:30 and we had to go and reprimand them to quiet down, because they are a disturbance to the guests.
- Dirk (8/5): Every thing good. See you soon - Perfect Service. Very friendly Very good value A little bit noise- because direct on mainroad
- Sophia (10/5): Can I do it again please😅 - The breakfast was great.
The bread was just nice toasted.
The waiters service was excellent.
- Nicholas (7/5): Good -
- Engela (8/5): Very good - Beautiful setting, amazing staff and really good food. The address on Booking.com is Ceres and not Prince Albert Hamlet. Causes great confusion.
- Riaan (7/5): Good -
- Portia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicola (5/5): Not bad, but I wouldn't rate it as a 3-star. I've been in better. - The food was amazing, even though it took a long time to prepare. The restaurant was excellent. Two of the rooms were not ready for us to check in. A group of girls came to the hotel to take pictures and were allowed to get louder and louder without anybody taking the guests into consideration, for hours. There was at least one remote in every room that didn't have batteries, and those that did did not work properly. There was also a layer of dust underneath the beds, which would have been easy to move to sweep up, since there aren't carpets.
- Wessels (3/5): Poor - Restaurant was excellent and food wonderful!
Friendly staff I arranged 3 months prior to our visit in advance to check in at 12pm because we have a wedding and live 3 hours away, we need to shower and dress. Upon arrival the room was not ready and we were only able to check in 13:48. We needed to leave at 2:30 for the wedding. The room was occupied the night before and the needed to clean it, what I did not understand is that the didn’t put is in a other room where the other guests only arrived much later. Just a bit of organisation. Our aircon didn’t work, and the television blacked out. The bed was comfy and warm, and nice hot water. Overall just a bit disappointed.
- Mark (5/5): Passable -
- Veerapen (8/5): The staff made up for dreary look of the lodge. The overall experience was value for money - The breakfast was excellent...the entire experience was value for money The lodge needs some tlc.its dark in the rooms and the bathroom is outdated
- Adrian (10/5): - Waitress were always helpful . Good service . Thanks to chef Dehandre Poole . Loved the breakfast!
- Eco (9/5): Superb -
- Carldene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Opperman (7/5): Good -
- Andrea (8/5): Very nice place with very friendly staff - Lovely place to stay, with friendly staff and nice and clean linnen The showerhead was a bit small (but it’s only because I’m used to a big showerhead, so I’m spoiled).
- Frank (1/5): did not stay there - We collected the key yes and returned the key as the workers completed the job on the day and did
not need to sleep over (never slept there never ate there)
But according to Hamlet as the key was collected that means we stayed
And did not do a refund
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shaun (1/5): Not interested. - The location.
- Isaac (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chanté (1/5): DO NOT GO TO THE PLACE
TERRIBLE - The room was double booked
Had people unlocking and opening the door to enter the room at 1am in the morning.
Had a type hostage situation a few minutes later! It's totally unacceptable!!! The room was double booked

- William (5/5): Passable -
- William (5/5): Passable -
- Yolande (10/5): Exceptional - It was the first time going there and we discovered a gem. People are extremely nice and friendly, definitely a place to visit. Nothing at all
- Jill (3/5): Not to be repeated. - The beds were comfortable. The rooms were not ready when we arrived at 3pm. The one room was difficult to lock. The key to the third room took some time to locate. Other rooms are being renovated. It was noisy in the evening with traffic passing on the main road and people in the restaurant. The restaurant only opened at 8am for breakfast, which I only discovered in the morning. The staff did try to compensate by giving us a toasted sandwiches and drinks and water to take with us when we left to go cherry picking.
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Janita (1/5): Terrible place. Just don't stay here. - The linen was clean. Only good thing I have to say. Terrible place to stay. They don't show the bathrooms for good reason. Just awful. We booked two rooms for two nights and left after the first night. Since the food got "alright" reviews we decided to try the breakfast which was included - but by 8:30 the kitchen was still locked and they havent even starting prepping anything. No aicron or dstv remotes provided. We had to check in thouch a very dodgy bar full of drunk people.
- Daniel (5/5): Will not return due to the unprofessional Michael and the fact that we could not enter the hotel after coming back from - Location, small rural town feeling Waited 5 minutes at empty reception for Michael to check us in. We did not get remote for parking gate so car had to be parked in main road at night coming back from wedding at 1am. All the outside doors and parking gate was locked when we came back so we had to climb over the fence to unlock a door at back of hotel. During breakfast the Sunday morning, Michael from reception yelled at a staff member, who owed him money, for about 2 minutes continuously despite the other staff asking him to consider the guests at the breakfast tables. He slammed the doors. Totally unprofessional. The rest of the staff was very kind. Lovely breakfast and coffee served.
- Mariette (7/5): Good -
- Stanley (8/5): Very good - Thank you Michelle and the Barman.
World Cup weekend was amazing.
- Prince (2/5): Not a great experience - There wasnt a part of the stay that stood out and I would mention When I arrive the host appear confused as to why I was there, I arrived within the checkin times, even after sending a message and receiving no response.
The room that I booked was not the room provided and didn't have the amenities as the booked room.
The door was not secure and the guard lock was the incorrect way.
The bed was not clean and the bathroom toilet and basin were cracked.
The bath would not stop dripping from the tap no matter how closed the tap way.
Overall was not impressed.
Breakfast (sandwiches of ham and cheese) was provided the night before so when the morning came the food way soggy
Breakfast the second morning was not served (no staff available at 7am)
There was no protocol to drop the keys off when staff was not available.
Everything needed to be asked for and was not available in the rooms including the wifi password.
- Nonny (6/5): Pleasant -
- Hayes (8/5): Very good -
- Kobie (9/5): Good and enjoyable -
- Linda (7/5): Comfortable, easy and interesting - Great restaurant. The rooms were surprisingly warm even though there was snow on the mountains outside. The day receptionist was a bit disgruntled about us using an online booking system, so that was a bit awkward. We had a moment of panic when we booked for a venue in Ceres, and payed for a booking in Prince Alfred, because we thought we may have just paid for an overnight accommodation in a town quite far away in the Swartberg Pass [ Prince Albert]. Not sure if this is remediable, but I doubt that I am the only one with a hazy knowledge of the British Monarchy, who could make this mistake.
- Koopman (8/5): Very good - The staff always made sure we're okay and were very friendly. Some of the guests who book in are smokers
A secure smoking area with a fire place would be great
- Peter (8/5): Great staff at the Hamlet Country lodge - The staff lifted my stay, they where all ver responsive and nice. However the place and rooms are not really up to a 3 star (European) standard.
- Sunita (2/5): Prince Alfred Country Lodge and NOT Kliphuis - On my arrival they send me to Kliphuis 64km away! I book at Prince Alfred Country Lodge, 10 Voortrekker St and not at Kliphuis. Bad, bad, bad!! I want to be refunded!
