- Kim (10/5): The best place I've ever stayed in Japan - I would rate Seiryuso the best place I've ever stayed in Japan. I wanted to stay somewhere that felt like a traditional onsen ryokan but with good amenities, and which could cater to a semi-vegetarian (i.e. no meat and no fish, apart from dashi stock). I really couldn't have chosen better than Seiryuso - I loved everything about it. I was upgraded to a newly refurbished room that was extremely spacious, stylish, and had traditional fusuma window coverings that pulled back to reveal a gorgeous view of greenery. I slept with the fusuma open so I could wake up to the view. The onsen baths were so good. Seiryuso has an excellent system for two of its baths, where you choose your time slots at check-in, so you can have the bath all to yourself. Both baths were stunning. The outdoor rotemburo is right next to the river and you really feel like you're in the middle of nature. The indoor bath looks out onto the forests and hills of Kirishima, and it's just so relaxing to be gazing at maple trees and cherry blossom. (There is also a communal bath which I'll have to try next time!) The food was incredibly good. I was served a real kaiseki meal for both dinner and breakfast. (At my request it was vegetarian apart from dashi, but I think the standard option was a wagyu (beef) kaiseki meal.) Every dish was so creative, beautifully presented, and completely delicious. Although I don't know for sure how Seiryuso would respond if asked to provide a fully vegetarian or even vegan meal, I think it's definitely worth asking in advance. The setting is beautiful too - Maruo Waterfall is a short walk away. I was also delighted to come across a forest hiking path (丸尾自然探勝路登山口) where I saw two deer! Finally, the staff were incredibly kind, helpful, professional and caring, and went out of their way to make me feel at whole and to make my stay special and memorable. I will be raving about Seiryuso for a long time yet, and recommending it to everyone! Nothing.

Not far from the other attractions in Kirishima Onsen. Staff were lovely. The meals were traditional style and delicious. Overall I felt it was slightly overpriced, and the room needed a freshen up. There were lots of marks on the walls and the furniture was old. It was comfortable enough.

While there were many staff who made an impression, would like to specially thank Hotel Manager Kajiki-san who was affable and took great care of us in every way, truly going above and beyond. I also enjoyed the variety of baths available. Most impressive was the outdoor bath next to a river! The onsen water was a lovely milky colour which goes to show how rich in minerals it was. I had a most relaxing and enjoyable time at the baths. Food was also exceptional. Well done Chef Yasuhiro! The dinners on both nights were so well composed and each dish brought delight. Really enjoyed my stay at Seiryuso and I’m looking forward to my next stay! Nothing!

- Alexandria (10/5): Best ryokan experience in Kirishima, be sure to make liberal use of the onsen! - Incredible food, a scenic location, and a superb ryokan experience. We got a large traditional room with its own private hot springs and bathed in the river hot springs as well. Once we figured everything out, we enjoyed our meals (delicious!), saw the scenery (a car is a MUST in the Kirishima/Kagoshima area these days if you're a tourist), and topped each day off with a nice relaxing onsen soak.
- Pasi (10/5): An amazing place by a forest river with splendid hot baths with a best service in Japan. - The customer service made me feel like a true VIP. I highly recommend a room with your own onset-bath in the balcony. I travelled alone, so I was a little lonely since the dinner and breakfast is served in traditional Japanese restaurant style with private booths. Maybe there could be an area where solo travelers could dine in company of other solo travelers if they wish. The walk from the village center with big luggage was a bit long. I could have organized a pickup by the hotel, but I didn't know this in advance. Maybe the Japanese language in their webpage had the info of the pickup. I think on their page could be a brief information in English about arriving to the hotel. However when I left the hotel, they took me to the bus stop which was super convenient.

For outdoor onsen, you need to go through some stairs to reach that, I would suggest the hotel to provide more comfortable slipper for outdoor walking. For indoor public bath area, it’s a bit too dark in the night. And in the public bath outdoor area, the hot water is closed when I used that (22:00) so the bath water temperature is not hot. (Bath area closes at 23:00)

Le due cene kaiseki sono state buonissime (soprattutto per noi che non ne siamo proprio dei fan). Camera molto grande con balcone vista sulla montagna. Possibile prenotare anche gli onsen privatamente. Posizione perfetta per escursioni, parcheggio incluso. Da sottolineare suite adattatore universale incluso già in camera. Lo staff parlava inglese. Ci torneremo, grazie ancora! Forse un po' scomodo se si vuole raggiungere il paese a piedi.

- Mayumi (9/5): 自然の中の旅館でゆっくりしたいならおすすめ！ - スタッフが親切で丁寧で特別な空間にいる気持ちになれました。自然のなかで日常を忘れてゆっくりできました。お料理も美味しく、お風呂も素敵でした。建物は歴史がありますが清潔でまた行きたいと思える場所でした。 車がないと行けないかなという印象ですですが、ゆっくり何もせず自然の中で過ごしたいなら行く価値があります
- Paula (8/5): - Ein sehr schönes Hotel, etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber sehr charmant. Es gibt 4 verschiedene Onsen und zusätzlich einen auf dem Balkon. Das aufwendige Kaiseki-Menu war jeden Abend ein Highlight unserer Japanreise, denn viele Bestandteile des Menus hätten wir sonst nie probiert.
