- Jurina (9/5): Really good onsen hotel - The hotel has a great onsen to relax. And the room was really large and in japanese style. The design on the corridors looks cheaper than the rooms and the onsen are.
You will need a car or the free shuttle service to reach this hotel.

- Ivana (9/5): A good ryokan onsen complex - It's a traditional ryokan with onsen, restorant, shop and beer bar in the same building.
It was calm and snowing. Onsen is outdated.
The facility is a bit more expensive comparing to other ryokans in Japan.
It is away from the city and train station so taxi is needed to transfer.
Check in as of 15:00 is a bit too late.

Remember to book the shuttle bus from Kakunodate train station if you are not driving.
The hotel looks and room are clean and well-kept despite the buildings might seems old from the photos.
- John (8/5): Wonderful old-school onsen and hotel. - Nice rooms with comfortable beds. Onsen and restaurant are connected to the property.. Building could use a new paint job.

- Vincent Teo (8/5): - Buffet Breakfast spread was good. Many choices. Japanese style Room size acceptable with a small balcony. Clean. Comfortable. Futon not thick enough.
Public onsen located across the road from the hotel room. Access via the overhead bridge on 2F.
No outdoor onsen.

- Goldy Bardin (5/5): If you want a traditional, no-frills onsen experience in a beautiful location, this is a great place - The property was conveniently located near Kankunodate and Dakigaeri Valley. The room was traditional and very spacious. The staff was very friendly. The gift shop in the lobby was very cute. The property itself felt somewhat institutional. There was a moldy smell in the room, which we eventually got used to. There was no private bath with the room. We had to go down three floors and across the street to shower/use the onsen.

- Emil Jorge Camannong (10/5): We - My family enjoyed our stay here, the hotel is located within then town and we enjoyed the serene countryside experience. The rooms were big and very clean and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and provided great customer experience. The onsen was very good, all amenities were provided. This was certainly a value for money hotel my family enjoyed here that we will be back one day. N/A

- Gertie (8/5): Good onsen in Kakunodate - We liked the onsen very much. The breakfast was good but quite expensive.
The hotel staff very kindly picked us up in Kakunodate when we needed a lift back. The hotel shuttle bus should be booked three days in advance, which we had misunderstood.
It is necessary to take a taxi to and from Kakunodate.
The hotel also needs a bit of renovation.
- Kelli (9/5): Superb - LOVED the breakfast spread and the access to onsen. I went at an early hour and it was very peaceful. We were able to see sakura from the window of our room. We only stayed one day but enjoyed our stay!
- Jannik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ong (9/5): Superb -
- Patrick (5/5): Back to the 1950s - Staff were lovely and the place was very clean
(As far as it could be) Decor doesn't seem to be updated since 1950s
Very dilapidated and dingy.
- Bettina (10/5): Exceptional - The location was quite rural and very pretty. Everything was very clean and the staff was very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay!
- Adeline (10/5): A very relaxing 3-night stay at Onsen Yupopo during winter with heavy falling snow. - Breakfast was a big spread with mostly local Japanese dishes. Location is about 15 mins away from Kakunodate Station. Frequent shuttle bus to/from the station was very helpful. Nothing
- Ferrato (10/5): Lovely personnel really good onsen and perfect tatami rooms. - Personnel was super nice. The man doing the transit to and from the Kakunodate station was the sweetest person there is. The madam working at the restaurant was very kind and friendly.
Amenities are great, the onsen open all night is a huge sell point and didn’t disappoint one bit. He fact that you can ask to transit to and from the station any day even when not leaving/arriving was really convenient. Overall super stay with super people in a really nice and quiet place. Thanks for everything.
- JENNIFER (10/5): - Clean & comfortable Japanese ryoken with a great onsen and dining. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and happy to assist with any questions or requests. I would definitely stay here again.
- Ralph (9/5): Superb - Excellent option if you're in need of accomodation and want to ski Tazawako and also go have a look at Kakunodate.
Clean and comfortable with an excellent onsen!
Staff were very helpful too, and the on-site restaurant was outstanding.
- Zi (10/5): Nothing to complain - It's amazing. Not too close from the station. But they arrange shuttle bus for free. And the living environment is quiet and fully equipped Nothing much
- Tantinantatrakul (10/5): Exellent Place - Exellent Place Nothing
- Tantinantatrakul (10/5): Exellent Place - Exellent Place Nothing
- Alberto (7/5): Good stay in the aerea - Considering the price, I was quite surprised in positive. The hotel is quite old and it needs some renovations. The room was really big, even if not really modern. The restaurant close to the hotel it is quite good and the onsen is also really nice. The staff was really friendly and helpful, it is nice also to receive on the front door every morning brew instructions on the onsen time and also some new amenities . The room was really warm as it was quite cold outside. The room was old and it smell like old ( not too bad , but not really fresh either). The appliances were old and bit noisy.
- Wai-ming (7/5): Good -
- Janice (9/5): Superb - Friendly staff, great selection for breakfast buffet, sufficient parking space. 10 min to the cherry blossom area. Yukata was also comfy. Pathway to the onsen at night was too dark and long. Only one towel provided for the entire stay.
- YONG PUI (6/5): - We do not like the shared washrooms and there were no basic bervage seeved (coffee, kettle, etc)
- Hannah (10/5): Wonderful first time ryokan experience! I want to spend even more time here next time I visit. - This is the first ryokan I have ever gone to, and it was wonderful. The staff were very nice, including the gardener who I had met and talked with a few times. The breakfasts had a great variety, and were different every day, with a mix of Western and Japanese items available. The onsen was fun to walk to, since a bridge connects the main building and the onsen building. This was also my first onsen experience, and there are very informative instructions on how to use the facilities properly. It set me up for success at every other bath I ended up going to on my trip, and I'm really grateful. Would highly recommend going during the winter, to enjoy very pretty snowfall and snowy mountain views. I want to return during the spring or summer to enjoy the outdoor art village activities as well!! It is important to remember to reserve the shuttle bus at an accurate time to when you would arrive at Kakunodate Station. I planned too far ahead and ended up waiting a couple hours, but it arrives at the main loop in front of the station, not the bus station behind the visitor center. I'm glad I planned ahead rather than late, but make sure to keep track of that.
- Baptiste (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent onsen hotel. Great amenities and the large bath is open throughout the night (3pm to 6:30am). Great breakfast. A bit far from the train stations, but the hotel offers free shuttles (we just ordered for the next day at the reception).
- Terina (9/5): very pleasant onsen with helpful staff and a lovely ryokan room - great location - helpful staff who organised theatre tickets for us and lent us a kettle when we requested one.
very beautiful room - comfy futons and quilts
lovely onsen and sauna not being able to open windows in our room to let in some air .
being barked at by one older male member of staff as to where to put our shoes
- Boon (8/5): Very good - Easy to find. Very effective heater for the cold night! prefer to have a bathroom in the room.
- Tai (7/5): Good -
- Krachang (9/5): Superb -
- Matthieu (7/5): Nice little ryokan to visit the Kakunodate area - Good traditionnal room with two onsens just near the hotel (in a separate building) and the staff was lovely ! Stayed there because all the other hotels were full around Kakunodate but it did not disappoint !
For the checkout we had a cab pick us up, which is the best way to go to the hotel from Kakunodate, the tourist center can book that for you if you ask nicely :) It was a bit of a trip to go to the hotel, espacially at night going through the fields when you know there can be bears lol
Nothing to add to that :)
- Elise (8/5): Enjoyed our stay - Set in a beautiful location, loved the onsen and having easy access to the restaurant for meals was great. Enjoyed our visit to the art village and fun activities for kids on a rainy day. Welcoming foyer and staff and appreciated the decorations for the Hanabata festival. Reasonable proximity to Kakunodate. We had a car so great place for us to stay and see the local sights. Exterior could do with a refresh but had its own charm.
- Larasati (8/5): Very good - The onsen is good.
- Robert (9/5): Superb - We especially enjoyed the Onsen, and the breakfast
- .嫆鵑 (10/5): Exceptional - They din’t responded to my shuttle bus reservation.
- YSCho (10/5): - nice sized tatami room with a lovely onsen plus restaurant across the street of the hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet area and the hotel is a bit off the town center. There's a shuttle service to the train station. The hotel provides free bike rental and I would recommend using the bike to explore the surrounding area. Staff is friendly, the room is spacious and clean. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
- Yi (8/5): Perhaps not a preferred choice for foreign tourist - Nice Japanese Ryokan with Onsen in the hotel. Hotel staff are nice, but speak very poor Enligh. It is a bit far from the JR station, but hotel has free shuttle bus upon reservation in advance. Breakfast is OK, but not impressive
