Guest Reviews
- Tan (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and appreciate the help rendered by the staff in the ryokan! - The ample parking lots available. The caring team there, like the manager Tamada San answered all our queries in English, the meals staff translated Japanese cuisine menu to English for us after the first night when we said we couldn’t understand Japanese menu. The property is also within walking distance to walking trails which were also enjoyable. Perhaps the curtains in the room can be double layers as the sun rises early like around 5 and shines into the room.
- Frances (4/5): - Nice staff, beautiful view from our room. The onsen was lovely. The hotel is worn and old. There is no real bar area, we had to ask reception to order drinks. No atmosphere. Only one set of towels were provided in the room which had to be used for the onsen and showering. An extra fee was required for the private onsen which seems crazy given how much the rooms cost. No ability to cater to dietary requirements. Very, very overpriced.
- Dawn (8/5): Very good - Bath
- Alice (10/5): Perfect ryokan experience - Our stay couldn't have been better. The staff were amazing from the moment they messaged us to arrange pick-up before our arrival. They also speak some English. The traditional Japanese room was large, immaculate and even had a massage chair! Of course, as it is a ryokan, we got to wear yukata and sleep on comfy futon. I travelled with a relative who was new to Japanese baths and didn't want to bathe naked with strangers, but it wasn't a problem because there were several private baths: three small ones that where you can just walk in and lock the door behind you, and a big beautiful outdoor one that you can book for a small fee (very worth it). The multi-course dinner was delicious, beautiful to look at and an experience in itself. We also enjoyed having a glass of sake in the lounge, which has a beautiful view of the mountains and river and free soft drinks + coffee. This is a great place to experience hot springs and a traditional Japanese inn en route to Kanazawa.
- Khan (10/5): Most memorable onsen experience for us so far. - Quiet and perfect for weekend get-a-way. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We will consider coming back next year. Wish they can allow us for late check out till 11 am instead of 10 am
- Juliane (9/5): Loved it. - The staff were amazing. The onsens, especially the private ones, were wonderful and the kaiseki cuisine exceptional.
- Louis (5/5): Poor value for money despite great surrounding; the pictures are upselling way too much - Great service, very nice Japanese room, great view from the room, the gorge is amazing, great Japanese breakfast Overall money for value was very poor, Run-down overall impression of the hotel, everything was damp and humid, the hotel has a humidity issue in general, smelly hallways and generally old infrastructure, Onsen (hot pools) were nice but certainly not as good as in the pictures, most views from Spa area were covered, the “nicest” private bath was only available against extra pay
- Dylan (10/5): The best customer service I had during my two week stay in Japan. - The location is amazing, and the only thing better than that was Mr.Sawada’s service. He goes above and beyond to make your stay worth the visit. The rest of the staff’s service is also top notch. The hotel was built a very long time ago. Some of the public areas (like the hallways) could use a renovation is all.
- Gil (1/5): Bad -
- Nc (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (10/5): Wonderful baths, great meals, and excellent service. Mr. Sawada is the best! -
- Kristin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bb (10/5): wonderful experience at this hotel. - The staff took excellent care of us, providing detailed information, helpful advice, and enthusiastic service throughout our stay. The accommodation provide private onsens in three styles, which are available free of charge. I love breakfast and wonderful dinner with good authentic tastes. The surrounding area offering a pleasant opportunity to explore the local culture, food and desserts. Additionally, the accommodation is conveniently located near Unazuki Onsen Station, making it an ideal base for exploring the region. -
- Lorraine (10/5): Exceptional - Customer service was great. Met us at the train station and brought us back. Delicious dinner. Private onsen was nice. A sofa in the room would have been nice.
- Kevin (8/5): Solid Romantic Getaway - Great scenic location, but slightly off the beaten track. Takes a few trains to get to, and a fair distance away from the key cities of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Slightly dated accommodation, but the staff were very helpful and attentive.
- Jia (10/5): Exceptional - Service of all the staff without exception was amazing
- 想多看看世界 (8/5): May not want to stay again - Dinner and breakfast are good Lobby is full of perchandises
A bit pricy
Spring water is not good enough
- Wipawan (8/5): It was a happy time. - Dinner was superb and I gave extra credit to the lady who assisted us. Additionally, the breakfast and staffs were very good. Love free bar. Nothing.
- Sheng (10/5): Super comfortable - Staff were very responsive and super friendly. Picked our luggages up at the closest train station while we head out to explore the area. Once we finish exploring the area they came and picked us up back to the ryokan. Free drinks, popsicles and coffee at the lounge area. Staff were super friendly and food is nice.
Definitely one of the best places I have stayed so far.
- Selina (9/5): Superb -

- Angela (10/5): Thoroughly pampered throughout the stay even though it is for one night. There’s lift in this for tiresome legs. I’m imp - Pick up service from the station. Well prepared.
They have friendly and helpful staff. Depending on seasons, there will be visitation from nature. Just chill and relax in the serene gorge of this place.
