- Cristiano (10/5): Perfect stay, expensive but absolutely worth every yen - Very nice rooms and location, right next to Dogo Onsen and a beutiful park. The Castle is only 15-20 min walking distance. The Ryokan has a small, but very relaxing Onsen (indoor and outdoor, seperated genders). They even have free beer and ice cream next to the Onsen entrance.

Mauer (9/5): Beautiful ryokan close to Dogo onsen - Stunning ryokan right in the center of Matsuyama's Dogo onsen district with a short walking distance to all shops, restaurants, public onsens and cafes and the train station and shopping center. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The ryokan itself is beautiful and you feel transported into a traditional Japanese home as soon as you step in and the rooms are gorgeous too - spacious, with a nice view, separate room for drinking coffee, a nice bath and even supplies yukata and all amenities. Unfortunately no breakfast is provided.

- Grant (10/5): - Very close to Dogo Onsen, the tram stop, and a hundred nearby restaurants. Also near to shrines and other Dogo Onsen adjacent attractions. The staff were awesome, the facilities were classy and very nice, the Onsen bath was spectacular, the room had an excellent view and while I didn't order it, I did see the food and it smelled and looked amazing. There was nothing I didn't like per say, but if the A/C had capability to actually cool the room down that would have made it legitimately the perfect stay.

- Jeff (9/5): Prepare yourself for a very high level traditional ryokan stay in the heart of Dogo Onsen. - We did not realize that the Yamatoya Besso is a beautiful but older traditional ryokan surrounded by the tall multi-story high rise lodgings around the Dogo Onsen. The level of service was very high and traditional which we were not expecting and in retrospect we appreciated and really set a bar for over our multiple trips to Japan and ryokan stays. Its location just above the Dogo Onsen annex and historic shopping arcade was a highlight and we did have views of Matsuyama Castle from our room. The water feature in the room, the kaiseki style breakfast served in the room, and the onsen were highlights. The traditional and high level of service was unexpected at first so you really have to put yourself into the mindset of experiencing the formalities of a very traditional ryokan experience. That said it wasn't stuffy, just unexpected. We've stayed at numerous ryokans over the years and this one set the bar for service and tradition, so just be willing to go with their exceptional hospitality.

- Clovis (10/5): Treat yourself to a great experience - but book dinner at least 3 days in advance! - Great luxury housing, worth the price. The traditional Japanese rooms are very beautiful, the place has an indoor bath and service is great. I would have liked the hotel to let us know in advance that dinner needed to be booked at least 3 days in advance, because we couldn't try it.

- Caroline (9/5): Relaxing short break - Very helpful staff. Great location with a private onsen as part of the hotel. Beautiful rooms and very tranquil. Location within 5 minutes of Dogo Onsen. Easy to get to on the tram as goes to Matsuyama station and the castle. Lots of restaurants close by and coffee bars.

- Pearl Law (10/5): Very clean and beautiful traditional hotel with great staff at a convenient location - Very helpful and attentive staff. The hotel is in a quiet location but still very close to the main shopping street. The onsen was very nice and clean. We love everything about it :D nothing!
- Nicola (10/5): A top traditional treat - From the moment we stepped through the front door the team at Yamatoya Besso could not do enough to make us feel welcome. Everyone was kind and attentive, explaining how the various facilities at the hotel worked, and the relevant etiquette e.g. for using the hot spring spa, and letting us know that we could wear the beautiful Yukata they provided for us out and about. The hotel spa was tranquil, clean and a good introduction to Japanese hot spring culture. The japanese breakfast was phenomenal, different each day, and served in our room. It was wonderful to have such a peaceful, traditional experience at the end of our holiday. Although we speak very little Japanese we were able to communicate easily with all the staff using a translation app on our smartphones. A fantastic experience. It was all amazing.

- MARIKO (9/5): 感謝 - 久しぶりに「旅館」に泊まりました。 膝が悪い夫はベッドを希望していましたが、私はお布団が嬉しかった。(普段の生活はベッドですが、なぜかホテルのベッドだと寝付けない事が多いので) 部屋のお風呂も大浴場もよかったです。 食事も部屋まで運んでくれて美味しかった。 関東在住なので難しいですが、次に松山へ行く事があれば是非リピートしたいお宿です。 良くなかったというよりも朝食が豪華過ぎて食べるのが大変だった(笑) 60歳オーバーの私達は朝食は無しにして夕食だけお願いすれば良かったです。
- Adri (9/5): Stijlvol verblijf - Zeer traditionele ryokan met de (bijna verdwenen) stijl van weleer, temidden van de toeristen kermis rond Dogo-onsen. Kleine eigen onsen faciliteiten, maar er kon ook gebruik gemaakt worden van de onsen faciliteiten met sake bar van het zuster hotel. Stijlvol welkom met thee en lokale delicatesse. Diverse extra's zoals een biertap (onbeperkt) en ijsjes. Inrichting van de grote kamer klassiek en compleet met mooie ryokan kleding voor binnen en buiten. Buitengewoon vriendelijk personeel. Fijn dat deze traditionele gastvrijheid en hoffelijkheid nog bestaat. Jammer dat eten in deze ryokan niet mogelijk was.

We thoroughly enjoyed it. - The ryokan had a very traditional vibe, staff were very attentive & the Onsen baths were lovely. The urinal in the toilet seems unnecessary & it smelled. There was tap beer after the Onsen - largely catering for men. A nice glass of decent white Sauvignon Blanc, from Marlborough NZ or from Australia would be a lovely alternative to water for people who don’t drink beer.
- Vitor (6/5): Boa experiência, mas pode melhorar a comunicação e o conforto dos quartos. - Comida excelente. Localização perfeita. Funcionários muito simpáticos. Ambiente muito abafado. Ainda que tivesse umidificador e ar condicionado, não consegui abrir a janela pra pegar ar puro. A questão de só montar a cama depois do jantar me incomodou um pouco. Gostaria da cama sempre disponível para poder relaxar pela tarde. Senti falta dos funcionários dominarem um pouco mais o inglês e de orientarem mais sobre a cultura e tradição japonesa. Foi minha primeira vez em um Ryokan e me senti perdido em vários momentos.

- David (10/5): - Superbe ryokan avec onsen dans l'établissement et une baignoire extérieure privative. Le personnel est très accueillant et prévenant et s'efforce de répondre à toutes les demandes. Le petit déjeuner servi en chambre est incroyable (et très copieux) Un yukatas différent est proposé chaque jour (et un 2ème pour la nuit. Une expérience que nous n'oublions pas!!

Lige fra check ind hvor ens bagage blev taget for en, ens bil blev parkeret og man skulle have tøfler på Yakata(?) på værelset og øl, ispind eller koldt vand efter man ha været en tur i stedets onsen. Virkelig god oplevelse som er 5 minutter til fods fra Dogo Onsen Intet
- Florent (7/5): Great but not very good value for money - Nice staff and welcome treat, good location 1. We thought we booked this hotel with half board but seems it wasn’t due to not being available on these days, the price would have been justified with half board but definitely not without it so careful when you book, I think Tuesday and Wednesday are the days the half board isn’t available. 2. The bed setup isn’t great where the blanket is half covered and you end up sleeping with the blanket without sheet on it, not really great and hygienic.
