Guest Reviews
- myra (4/5): - It's an old motel and hasn't been updated but charges prices like Holiday inn or La Quinta.
- Hailey (2/5): - This motel is way too old and gross. There was a dead scorpion in my room. I would not stay here again. It is way overpriced for what you get.
- Terry (4/5): - The staff at the property were professional and friendly. My issue is the cost of the room is not competitive at all with the level of service.
No cleaning of rooms, we had to get towels and toiletries ourselves daily, pool closed due to staffing issues and no breakfast.
All of this should be provided for the cost charged. This hotel is not remotely worth the money.
- Serenity (8/5): - It was okay just for a one night stay. Clean enough, but desperately needs to be updated. Paneling on doors is falling apart, ceiling above one of our beds was sagging, wondering how they keep each room warm in the winter as there were incredibly old and seemingly unsafe heaters installed into the walls. Staff was kind and helpful.
- Erin (10/5): Affordable and clean 😀 - Older classic 50’s motel. Very clean and conveniently close to downtown Fredericksburg 😀
- Tracy (8/5): On the edge of town - This is an old hotel, but we love the location and parking right by the door to our room is so handy. The staff is friendly, we have stayed multiple times. They are short on cleaning staff, so daily room cleaning was paused but they provided fresh towels which is really all that we needed.
- Randall (8/5): - Older motel, needs updating. No daily room cleaning. Had to request clean towels
- Trisha (6/5): Just ok. - Very old slightly charming motel. We enjoyed the pool! This motel could definitely use updating. The first room, the refrigerator didn’t work. The AC had not been turned on ahead of time, even though it was August. The second room, the refrigerator work, but the door wouldn’t close all the way so I had to put a chair up against it to keep it semi closed. The second room also the AC had not been turned on ahead of time.
- Randal (10/5): - Very nice property, quiet well kept and reasonably priced. Plan to return for October Fest.
- jeffery (8/5): - Free brewed coffee
- John (6/5): - The property is affordable but outdated.
- Daniel (10/5): - This is an older motel that others overlook. The bed was so comfortable and the room was spacious. The pool was so relaxing and enjoyable.
- Steve (8/5): - Value for money!
- Christine (10/5): Retro Vibe Awesome Stay - Wonderful stay! The room was spotless, and the check-in process was warm and welcoming. I especially enjoyed waking up to the peaceful view of deer right outside my window — such a lovely touch of nature. I would definitely stay here again!
- Bryan (8/5): - We had no complaints. Room had everything we needed, including most importantly a extremely comfortable bed. Fresh linens. Clean. AND the A/C worked!
- John (6/5): - The rooms are clean and affordable.
- Linda (8/5): - Property was good. Pool far enough away from rooms that late evening soakers weren't intrusive. Most beneficial, would be inexpensive solar powered spot lights on entry signage after dark. Both sides of both signs illuminated for less than $100.
- Cynthia (6/5): - Price is great, location , friendly staff. just needs some TLC, clean, served purpose. Wildlife is nice to see outside window.
- Eli (10/5): Clean - Nice place and quiet away from town.
- edwin (10/5): - Great place to stay just out of town.
- Dwight (10/5): - Will definitely go back
- Jenny (6/5): - Older motel , still a good value
- Tracy (10/5): - This is a old motel, because of that we love it. Takes care of your basic needs, is clean and comfortable.
- Rosalinda (10/5): - At first glance the property was questionable. But the staff was super friendly, the beds super comfy and ac worked very well. Not to mention reasonably priced! Definitely would stay again.
- Kathy (6/5): - This is a motel on the edge of town. It had many positive reviews, but now I wonder how old they are. Everything could use an update—it bordered on shabbiness. I’d advise not paying in advance as we did.
- Joan (6/5): - Needs to be updated
- Glenn (10/5): Quaint motel on the edge of downtown action - Quaint motel near a German restaurant ant not too far from the downtown action.
- Michelle (8/5): Older 1960s hotel - Nice older hotel...it needs some updates, especially how they plug in all the appliances. We stayed 1 night - bedding could be updated as we felt it was a little outdated/overused. Price was ok...it was away from the downtown traffic which made for a quieter stay. Would possibly stay here again for a night.
- Donna S (6/5): - Was expecting something better!
- Laura (8/5): - Old fashioned drive up motel - surprisingly clean and pleasant.
- Janet (10/5): - Fantastic. What a surprise. Great place and very reasonably priced.
- dustin (10/5): - Perfect place at the end of Main st. Quiet and perfectly priced for the area.
- Chase (10/5): Love - Place is old school, RETRO. Loved it and slept comfortable.
- Joseph (2/5): - We did not stay at this motel! We went to check-in but once we arrived in the parking lot, and motel lobby, the rooms were nothing like what we expected from looking at the online photos and description. We spoke with the female attendant who called the Owner/Manager and She spoke with me and said she would support a full refund to me but said I would have to go through Expedia. Expecting this response will trigger a refund and if necessary you can contact the motel manager to discuss. Feel free to contact the Motel Manager or myself by phone or you can email me ...I respectfully request a refund to be provided to me; If not, I will never utilize Expedia again and will post many negative comments online. Thank you and appreciate a prompt response.
- David (4/5): Look at other options - The property is in desperate need of upgrading, it is old rundown and dirty. Our room had not been cleaned as there was hair and a hair tie in the bathroom sink.
- Craig (8/5): - The Dietzel Motel is all you need! Great value, clean rooms, nice showers, good beds, cable TV and WiFi. Cool early ‘60s property. The staff are friendly and accommodating! We will be coming back!
- maria (10/5): - It was a very clean place.
- Laurie (10/5): Clean, reasonably priced - Very clean room, great price, staff friendly. Would stay again
- Kimberly (8/5): - I would stay there again😀
- Joanne (10/5): - Clean, older motel on the outskirts of downtown. Convenient, helpful staff. Good value. Enjoyed the wildlife viewing from the room.
- Juli (10/5): - We love the Dietzel! Always very clean, quiet, and very affordable. JJ and staff are always so nice and accommodating! We will always choose to stay here on our many visits to Fredericksburg.
- larry (6/5): - The room was adequate, the bed comfortable. The entire property is firmly fixed in the 50's and is desperate need of refreshing.
- Ronald (8/5): Older property but great stay - Older version vintage hotel. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Outdated but cost and service was great based on the type of property it was. We will definitely stay again if visiting the area.
- John (6/5): Has the essentials, but needs some updating - The place met our needs. We left very early, came home late and went straight to bed. It met our needs, but the microwave was broken and the mini-frig broke while we were there. We didn't need either one, but the room needs an update/repair of those items. No breakfast, no room cleaning on longer stays, but host offered free hot coffee each morning. Much less expensive than other places in town, so we got our money's worth on this three-day work trip.
- Kayla (10/5): Fredericksburg trip - It was very quiet and out of the way it was comfortable had a fridge and microwave also had an ice machine and vending machine
- James (8/5): - Very convenient for a visit to Fredericksburg, old style motel, but clean with a good staff. Furniture and doors could stand some updating.
- Judith (10/5): - We loved this motel -- very clean with spacious rooms, No fancy amenities but we didn't expect that. The staff is friendly and the location very convenient to shops and dining.
- Yvonne (8/5): - It served the purpose of a place to sleep. The area was quiet which was great. Motel is dated but in good condition. The room offers cable tv, coffee maker, dryer and small fridge, shampoo, conditioner and bar soap provided. Bed was too firm for my comfort.
- David (8/5): Simple, comfortable, good location - Simple, inexpensive way to stay near Fredericksburg. Extremely short drive away.
- Willa (10/5): - We will stay again. Property older but well maintained.
- David (8/5): Decent Value for the money - Decent little non-descript place. Fine for our stay as we weren't in the room much. Nothing fancy but good overall value. Room was good-sized and relatively clean. Bed was comfortable. What we paid was a bit pricey but there was a big event in town. Normal prices are more reasonable.
- Mark (2/5): Dump in Fredericksburg - I'm fed up with Hotels.com rating system. This is the 3rd time this year this has happened. This hotel was rated 8.2, and the reviews were outstanding. You can't trust any of this. This motel did not have housekeeping; it had a window unit air conditioner that shut on and off constantly; the TV audio cut on and off; the parking lot was not even paved. The coffee creamer was spoiled; the door lock was flimsy; the toilet was dirty. The wifi was so weak it was useless.
- Gillian (10/5): - At first glance this place can look a little dated but the bed is amazingly comfortable along with the pillows. The motel is quiet, very close to down town, cute and charming. The staff are all friendly and helpful. And the motel is very convenient to everything you need or want. I felt extremely safe traveling alone here. Should I come back I will definitely be staying here!
- GLORIA (8/5): - Location was perfect so close to the strip for shopping and eating.
- Abigail (10/5): - It was a mile walk from Main st marketplace during Oktoberfest and the historical downtown area, 25 minutes from Enchanted Rock. Keep in mind it is the last building of the Main street,
rock & dirt entrance, and it is a 1970's style "Motel". Dated decor and simple dorm type bathroom, but clean towels. However, it fit the need to rest and shower as needed. Very quiet area, accessible pool, be careful with the wandering deer.
- Owen (6/5): - Property was outdated but functional and clean. Staff went above and beyond to help out.
- Regina (10/5): - I love a motel in general. I also love supporting small businesses. Generally, I feel like that might mean I sacrifice good toiletries but those were good too. Our window opened up on a lovely meadow with deer in it. It was peaceful and quiet and I was confident that that money we spent stayed in that community.
- Kenneth (4/5): - Will not go back.
- amy (8/5): - This was our second time staying at this property. The first time we thought everything was just great and had no complaints. This time, though we still like this property, the room we had had poor water pressure and would get suddenly hot or cool, even at 11 PM when I wouldn’t anticipate other people using much water. I do plan to stay here again but will ask in advance for a room without those issues. To repeat my other review, clean room and property, comfy bed, a budget-friendly stay with all the basic amenities.
- sam (8/5): - Beds not king-size
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent hotel for what I need in Fredericksburg TX.
- Heather (8/5): - This was a nice quiet location. It is an older motel but was clean and had what we needed for a comfortable stay.
- Arianna (10/5): - The staff was wonderful, and I was not expecting the bed to have been as comfy as it was. Shower heated well. Ac actually got the room cold. Overall it was awesome.
- JASON (8/5): - Outdated but safe and clean. As long as you know the trade-off for the lower rates, it's an acceptable option on a tight budget.
- Paul (10/5): - It was clean, comfortable, good price. Every thing worked.
- Peilan (10/5): - Clean and spacious rooms for the price. Great value
- Edward (2/5): - The property first off was listed as Pet Friendly, it wasn't, no pet allowed. It also was a dingy and unsafe looking property, nothing like the photos on website. The owner allowed us to cancel the reservation for the first night that we had made on his website. However, when I went on expedia to cancel, wouldn't allow with a refund. The owner said he had nothing to do with the expedia website and couldn't refund our money for the night of 4th July.
- Ava (8/5): - Old but comfortable
- John (10/5): Lovely location in the Hill Country - We were very impressed with the "old meets the new" atmosphere of The Dietzel. Check in was easier than most places we've been. Through no fault of the hotel, the event we came for ended earlier than we expected and we elected to drive home instead of staying the night, so we never actually used the room.
- Jody (8/5): - First time in Fredricksburg we had a great time and stay. Will differently stay again.
- David R (10/5): - An older but very clean and cared for property.
- MORGAN (10/5): - Was in good shape and had a nostalgic feel to it.
- Lorretta (8/5): - We have been staying at this place for over 40 years. It is a very well kept place in a quiet part of town.
- Dwight (10/5): - Quiet
- Tammy (10/5): - Loved our stay! Very clean and quiet and staff was very friendly and helpful. Quick check in and check out
- Todd (8/5): - Affordable and clean. Property is outdated but it wasn't a deal breaker. Would stay there again.
- Johnnie (4/5): - There were little black bugs in the room. We also had trouble with the water in the shower …one minute it was scolding and next it was freezing. The hotel is older but it is due for a drastic remodel.
- Katya (10/5): - It was great for a short visit in Fredericksburg
- Noemi (6/5): - Stayed one night room with two full beds not queens as I had anticipated. Room was clean and quite.
- Kathryn (6/5): - I would never stay there again.
- Dee (6/5): Clean But in Dire Need of Update!!!! - Pros:
Staff was very nice
Room was clean
Cons:
Thin, Hard, Old Mattress
VERY DATED!!!!!
Carpet should've been replaced 25 yrs ago. Didn't walk on it barefoot.
Alarm clock was missing part of the display rendering it useless.
Shower temp kept going up and down
Very old curtains and the top was hanging down. Tried to hang them back up but it was missing the rod to put the metal hooks in. So just did the best I could to close it.
Was just needing a place to shower and sleep. The lady said she tried to give me the softest bed. I wont stay again because my back really hurt. But if you just need a shower, and don't mind a hard bed, it's ok for a night or 2.
- Juli (10/5): - Super clean, safe hotel and room; and the staff was SO NICE! We will be staying here every time we come to Fredericksburg for sure.
- Mark (6/5): - Overpriced at around $130/night, but it is in Fredericksburg, TX which is a popular destination and it was during "Fiesta" in San Antonio which is 45 min. away.
Most disturbing were the two scorpions I found in the room! One in the bed the first night and one in the bathroom the next morning.
Otherwise it was clean and functional for a roadside motel.
- Bonnie (10/5): - Older place but very well kept … bed was comfy… very clean and the lady at the front desk was very talkative …. Will go back…
- Adam (10/5): - Just what we needed. Manager was kind enough to allow a late checkout. My wife wanted to shower after running half marathon.
- Ila (6/5): - The Dietzel was perfectly fine for the price. The room was a bit dated, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable.
- Marjorie (10/5): - What a charming motel. It’s an older hotel but still has the original sea foam green tile in the bathroom. The view from the back was a field of wildflowers. Super clean and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
- Tracie (10/5): Dietzel Experience - Went to watch the Eclipse in Fredericksburg and The Dietzel Motel was just a bonus! We will definitely stay there again. The staff was so friendly and very welcoming. The rooms are a bit dated but that’s what I loved about it. I really liked that it wasn’t in a busy spot so you get a lot of nature. My Son really enjoyed exploring in the field behind the motel. The rooms were super clean and the AC was super cold. I can’t say enough good things about The Dietzel Motel but highly recommend whenever you’re visiting in Fredericksburg. It’s nothing fancy but it has everything you need.
- Joanne (10/5): - Great location and quiet!
- Sandy (6/5): Bluebonnet Trip - As expected, the hotel is older which was fine. It was clean and comfortable, and easy to get to. The walls are a little thinner than the newer hotels too. The only bad things noted was that the toilet in our room had a few issues and it would take at least 3 flushes. The hair dryer only lasted about 6 seconds so fortunately I did have to use any more than that. Staff was friendly and helpful in giving directions to see the bluebonnets.
- Donna (10/5): - Very clean and friendly
- Gary (8/5): - Dated but clean
- Richard (4/5): Old dump in a nice area - Very old place with a lumpy mattress. Location is good.
- Edward (10/5): - An old hotel, but well kept
- Peilan (6/5): - Not a bad choice for one night stay. Not too far from the attractions but still need to drive to places.
- Wayde (6/5): - They need to do a deep clean in the rooms. We found trash under the beds.
- Lisa (2/5): - The only redeeming quality of this property was the well lit inviting pool. If it were not for the pool being lit up, I would have competly missed the property. If I wanted a day pool party or needed motorcycle rags this place would be adequate. Since I was looking for safe, quiet, clean place to sleep I opted not to stay here after making a reservation. This hotel is honestly not safe. First there is no one on site after 11:00 p.m. if you have an issue. Most of the exterior light bulbs are burned out making the property very dark so dark it is hard to open the door with a real key. The room next to the one assigned to me was open and dark likely because the keys do not lock the rooms and this concerned me for safety. The real keys did not lock the deadbolt or the lower lock from the outside. This again was a safety deal breaker for me. There are plenty of other places to stay in Fredericksburg, please do not stay here if you want a safe stay.
- Lloyd (4/5): - Housekeeping could be better. Never could hook up to Wi-Fi. Not all of the lights worked. Difficult to hook up the TV. With a little effort, this hotel would be just fine. But not today.
- David (10/5): - great restaurant next door.
- Maribel (8/5): Good motel, good price. - The motel is not new or updated, but it's safe and clean, has a great view, and it's located really close to the downtown and restaurants. It's located on the main street, but in not very crowded area. It's a good option if you just going to use it to sleep.
