It was exceptionally clean and neat. The shower tray was extremely slippery. So much so I nearly fell twice. A shower mat is much needed. There were a LOT of stairs to reach the room.

I think it was on the higher side in terms of money for one nights stay, but it was definitely lovely, and if I could afford to I’d stay more often.

- Justin M (1/5): Worst night's sleep in a tiny bed that wasn't even a double, let alone a superior double. - I booked and paid for a "Superior Double" room, yet the bed wasn't even a standard double, it was even smaller than that. We had the worst night's sleep. When I mentioned this to the receptionist she said I booked with booking.com so need to take it up with you.

- Carl (9/5): Didn't want to get out of bed - When I left home at 16 and travelled to Portsmouth that guest house was my new home.I'm now 60 the owners of Q8 have done some amazing renovation work. Much love and respect to them Parking will always be an issue as its a busy as it's a hub for travel to to Isle of Wight. The park and ride facility is spot and also the bus to the hovercraft

Staff were super friendly, hotel was very clean and spacious. Great location, really enjoyed my stay here. Only small things, and apart from these, it was lovely. The kettle didn't have a plug socket nearby, so I had to move it across the room and drag a table over to put the kettle on so it reached the wall plug. Only one pillow on the bed, but not a big issue for me. The shower screen doors sort of overlapped, but left a large gap at the bottom. Didn't affect the use, but may turn into an issue if someone makes a mess with the water. But overall, not major issues, and would highly recommend staying here.

- Hassane (10/5): Great location and very friendly staff - I stayed at this hotel while travelling to take part in the Festive Half Marathon, and the location honestly couldn’t have been better. Everything was so convenient and easy to get to. The staff were absolutely lovely — super friendly, welcoming and very flexible, which made the stay even better, especially around race day. I really loved my stay here and would 100% come back again. Highly recommended! The room was a little cold and I couldn’t get the heating to work properly. I didn’t mention it at reception during my stay, so I’m sure it’s something they could easily fix. Other than that, nothing to complain about.

Very disappointed about not having breakfast included on site. A boutique hotel in any other town would include breakfast. You had to leave the property to go to a local restaurant for food. There was no lift. The rooms weren't soundproof so you could hear people coming and going all the time. Very basic tea and coffee facilities. I don't think it qualifies as a boutique hotel

It definitely needs a little bit of attention ie shower hold broken, door handle of bathroom broken, window latch broken - just a few details in the room need to be fixed & updated.

Short walk to the bars and restaurants of the town centre… Stayed here for the Great South Run, staff were exceptional before and after, super friendly and accommodating. Room was clean, tidy, modern and the entire hotel was quiet and tranquil throughout the stay. Would highly recommend.

- Marina (7/5): Nice hotel but better places to stay. - The hotel is just round the corner from bars, restaurants and the sea Room was an ok size, Bathroom was gorgeous. Bed was comfortable, great if you just want walking and staggering distance to palmerstone road. Paid extra for monument view. Only thing you can see is homeless people's tents. Your over the main door/ reception and near the road so its noisy. The reception and stairs are gorgeous but without carpet the sound echoes. No bar on site or restaurant, have to go down the road for breakfast. Bedroom area was basic, grey white decor, skirting needs a wipe, sadly not really boutique but that's just my opinion.

Would have like a fridge in the room to put fresh milk in for the coffee, shower had no power at all, literally trickled out, very difficult to wash long thick hair so didn’t bother!

Check in was quick and easy. Not an issue for us, but the hotel doesn't do breakfast, there are loads of places to eat out so not at issue at all
