Guest Reviews
- Leighton (8/5): Good customer service and nice clean room - The staff member who greeted us was very friendly. The room was ideal for what we needed and it was nice and clean.
- martin (7/5): -
- Martin (9/5): -
- Carolyn Coates (6/5): Room was cold. Shower water cold although hot -
- dean (10/5): quiet and lots of parking - room was very clean and quiet
- john (8/5): - Breakfast not included, downstairs music intrusive
- Sarah (6/5): Weekend break staying at Rettendon Lodge - Great location, staff very friendly. Breakfasts were fantastic. Kept very clean. It has seen better days, and the plug in air freshener everywhere were over powering. Small double beds.
- Ivan (8/5): -
- Clint Richards (10/5): -
- Tony (10/5): -
- Bernadette (9/5): Cozy country escape. - Clean, warm cozy.
Friendly staff great atmosphere. Bar was closed at 10pm on a Saturday evening?
Breakfast was very good but definitely overpriced for what was served.
- Linda (6/5): Fine apart from the rude member of bar staff - Good location, plenty of parking & good value for money Property was fine , staff were fine apart from one member of staff he was very rude, not the younger guy who took our cases up to room
- Tate (5/5): -
- Congregational federation (8/5): Sadly breakfast was not what I expected. No fruit or yogurt the hot water was not hot so tea would not make everyone was - Thank you for a comfortable room and a good meal last night
- Tracy (4/5): Friendly staff, food acceptable, but noise in room, uncomfortable bed, prevented good nights sleep. - Staff were friendly, however when I was asked when I checked out if I had enjoyed my stay , I said I had not had a good nights sleep because the noise from the bar was quite load in my room and so couldn't sleep. The employee replied, saying, 'well it is an old building'. Missing the point really - that you should be able to sleep in a bedroom. The noise from the bar was clearly audible above the Tv in my room. The room when I walked in smelt a bit. Noise from the bar clearly audible in the room over TV.
- Dan (2/5): Unless there's major improvements or price decreases will not be staying again. - Staff were friendly. Water pressure in shower was very poor. And very cramped where the bathtub is located. Having Sciatica and having to crowch while having a shower with poor water pressure is not ideal. I understand I was staying in the budget room but even still... Loud music blasting in the bar until midnight when trying to sleep. And the food was also poor. Also very overpriced considering I have very little next to nothing positive to say about my stay here.
- Richard (5/5): Not pleasant. - Throughout the stay the room was extremely hot. An electric fan was a poor design and had to lean on a wall made a noise and not usable. The shower was only available attached to the wall where a bath tub is and an average size adult cannot stand to use it as the ceiling above is angled n low. The room did not have any normal window and very uncomfortable. This was just a beginning of a series of unpleasantness and poor quality services. The minimum accommodation standards was lacking. Only the service at the restaurant of our dinner was good. Our Server was nice. Please see the above.

- Victoria (6/5): Comfortable stay, friendly staff, a little dated. - The breakfast was fresh, cooked to order and was very nice. Lovely friendly staff. The shower in the bathroom was a little temperamental with the temperature and was not powerful. No fan in the bathroom. The soap dispenser at the sink was empty when we arrived.
Bed was very comfortable.
Not enough available plug sockets.
Comfortable overnight stay but just a little dated.
- Helen (7/5): Great staff and service. - The staff were fabulous. We were in a room next to the noisy extractor fan of the kitchen.
- Jack (10/5): Great quality for the price - Safety location for work van and easy to get too Music was quite loud some nights
- Ivan (9/5): -
- Danny (6/5): - The shower
- Yvonne (5/5): Convenient for us - Good as we were at function there . Couldn’t get in door at midnight, pouring with rain and freezing cold.
- Ivan (8/5): -
- Marc (10/5): Absolutely brilliant , will definitely be staying again . - Everyone was so friendly and welcoming , nothing was too much trouble . Had friends over for breakfast , they was welcomed like we was . Lovely food , my 6 year old reckons it was the best cheeseburger in the world .
Warm , clean and very comfortable . nothing , everything was perfect .
- Nathan (7/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): It did what it said on the tin - A very nice Full English breakfast. Only one bedside light
- Angela (5/5): Hannah was very helpful and polite. - Room was cold when we first arrived we had to ask for the heating to be turned on. Breakfast pricing needs to be modified. I had one slice of toast with 1 fried egg and a cup of tea and it cost £10.00.
- Mohan (6/5): -
- Edward (9/5): - Good food, great staff. No problems at all.
- Ivan (8/5): -
- Guest (9/5): Comfortable x - Lovely and friendly Room 8 was in the loft room accessible only from the outside and in the apex of the roof so my tall other half struggled to have a shower so if staying at the venue for an event and it’s raining you may get wet !
- Louise (8/5): - Hard to find in the dark. Not lit up from the road.
- Bradley (9/5): - The food was fantastic aswell really enjoyed our stay
- Mark (10/5): - Friendly staff and good food.
- Vanessa (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - Clean, comfortable and good for one night stay Keypad at top of stairs
- John (10/5): - Always like going to Rettendon lodge events. It's friendly, the food is great and lots of choice. Easy to park and in quiet surroundings.
- Brian (10/5): Its a beautiful hotel we really enjoyed our stay. Had a lovely room . - The venue was amazing 👏 I loved the wedding marquee it was done out beautiful. Staff were very helpful and friendly 😊 xx
- Sharon (10/5): Superb Family Room - Have always enjoyed staying at Rettendon Lodge, however on this occasion my expectations were exceeded as I stayed in Family room number 1 and it was superb. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in, the room was light and airy and tastefully decorated and everything was clean and tidy.
- Mark (10/5): Great staff, highly recommended! - Check in was very easy, Sophie was very helpful and polite. I can highly recommend this venue, the staff are great and the food is excellent. The hotel room was clean and very comfortable, they even have bottled water in the room, rarity these days.
Highly recommended, I’ll be returning when I’m next in the area.
- Karen (8/5): Lovely - It was very quiet and comfortable, staff friendly Very busy road at the end of the lane. Steep steps up to room, fine if.able bodied though
- Davis (10/5): - Staff were fantastic
- Tracey (9/5): Overall great value for money, comfortable and staff were extremely helpful and happy . - We went to a festival at Hylands Park. It was convenient on a main route , staff were extremely helpful and friendly and our room was spotless . We could hear some noise from a wedding that was also taking place at the venue but really these things happen and as it’s a wedding venue of course that’s going to happen occasionally. It didn’t impact on us we were shattered!!!
- Apperley (9/5): - Friendly staff. Easy access and smart room
- Rosalyn (8/5): Good option if you’re attending a function in the marquee. - We stayed in a budget room which was comfortable with its own entrance up a flight of outside stairs.
We attended a function in the marquee so it was great to be onsite for that. The hot water pressure wasn’t good which made showering challenging.
- Ray (8/5): Would definitely go there again - Breakfast was traditional and cheerfully served.
Location is very rural with good views. I have a problem with stairs but the staff were very helpful.
- Adenike (10/5): Over night rest over - It was nice. We went straight to sleep after a birthday party we attended.
We needed a place to stay after event.
- Michael (8/5): A lovely stay in a clean, comfortable room. Staff were fantastic - Fripp, helpful and welcoming. We will return, definit - Great location and a very friendly, welcoming team. We felt very well looked after. Nothing!
- Hockley (8/5): - Good welcome when checking in..room was clean and spacious.tea and coffee supplied and bottled water.we were opposite the marquee but wasn't a problem as it stopped soon after we arrived back..had lunch when we checked in..very good..we're not breakfast people so can't comment ..all in all a good experience
- Jenny (5/5): - Selection and quality for dinner very good. Choice and quality of breakfast reasonable. The small double bed in my room and the size of the shower room were disappointing. I would definitely not want to stay in this room if I was travelling with my partner. The bed was too small!
- Ivan (2/5): Red hot and uncomfortable - The area The room was a budget room but was in the eves of an Annex. Could walk past bottom of bed unless you were 5ft without banging your head. Couldn’t shower unless you were 5ft. Room was roasting hot all the time.
- Roger (8/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Kata (9/5): Good, relaxing stay - The room was great, very spacious. The location was very quiet, still close to places/activities we had booking for. We had a very good stay. It was a bit pricier than expected. But still, we would happily stay here again, with applying some discount on the price.. :)
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok for overnight - All ok, staff seem nice but room and bedding a bit musty. Fine for overnight, no big issues. Good value. Book direct for complimentary breakfast.
- Stephen (8/5): Nice Place - Nice place in a lovely spot.
- Stewart (9/5): Superb -
- Tim (10/5): Enjoyable and relaxing stay - Welcoming and friendly staff, nice room with all facilities including tea and coffee making plus 2 small complimentary bottles of water also included. Will definitely stay again
- Lesley (8/5): Excellent facilities with great service - The hotel staff and food were very good. Excellent facilities for a wedding or other event The rooms were small and very hot even with the small fan provided
- Malcolm (8/5): Very good - The room was a good size and clean with fresh towels every day. The dinners were well cooked and prepared quickly. The Continental breakfast could have been better. A tea pot would have been nice alongside freshly baked croissants. Tbe cooked breakfasts were fine though.
- mladen (10/5): - Well equipped room , clean and tidy
- Lisa (10/5): Excellent, staff were lovely and helpfull - Lovely room , cater for everything first time there and very happy Can’t fault
- Jeremy (10/5): Wonderful Stay - Wonderful stay. Just what you would want in a traditional British experience. Good chance to walk around and see nature and enjoy some peace and quiet. Excellent food and service in the Pub/Restaurant for both dinner and breakfast.
- Bex (7/5): It was like being in a oven you couldn’t breath in there - Clean & lovely food
Was a nice stay apart from a few things WE was in the room above the kitchen
& was on the hottest day of temperatures of 35 in July
When arrived no windows were open
A broken fan which didn’t stand up & wasn’t cooling the room at all
The water in the bottles were boiling hot ..!!!
- Brian (7/5): Good -
- Belinda (7/5): Clean and Comfortable - Clean and comfortable rooms with very helpful staff Attended an event in the Marquee during very hot weather..There was no air con and only one fan!! It would have been better value for money if it had included breakfast..
- Jenny (4/5): Get what you pay for, room had seen better days. - Lovely location and the pub was very cute. Cheaper option in the area. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Bed was comfortable. The room was so hot when we arrived, the fan that had been supplied was missing a foot so you couldn’t move it around the room it had to stay in the corner to be propped so couldn’t feel the benefit. The room is tiny but you get what you pay for I guess. The shower though was the worst thing I have ever experienced the head was so dirty I was surprised water could even come out of it how much limescale build up was on it, it was also in the worst location on the slop of the roof which I understood can’t be helped but then was hanging off the wall so you couldn’t even touch it with out it falling apart. The hot water wasn’t powerful enough either so it was mainly cold water. The windows were so dirty around the edges and the carpets had seen better days. Over all the room needs some work on it and needs a real deep clean. Even if they were to buy a new shower head and fan then could be a lot better.
- Rolfe (7/5): Good -
- Jeremy (8/5): Very good -
- Matt (9/5): Superb - Friendly, helpful staff. Please take to deal with
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tidmarsh (8/5): Good accommodation - Good accommodation Nothing
- Peter (9/5): Friendly efficient staff - Quiet location
- Ironcraft (8/5): Very good -
- Julian (10/5): My stay at Rettendon Lodge. - Happy with everything. Room was specious, clean & comfortable with a good choice of well prepared food in the restaurant. Nothing i can think of.
- Martin (7/5): Good -
- Martine (1/5): Bad -
- Michael (8/5): - Was nice and simple however to have a shower was awkward as I’m 6ft tall and I had to shower bent over
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (10/5): Great convenient stay for wedding at venue - Great location clean great room spacious and clean Staff were great. It so short staffed at bar so they looked stressed and over worked poor guy behind the bar was struggling to cope with all the people ordering food and drink so think they need more staff, breakfast ladies lovely on the Sunday
- Peter (6/5): - The mattress was VERY uncomfortable, food was mediocre. On arrival the room was like a hot house I felt that the dormer windows should have been opened to let the heat out.
- Karen (8/5): Location and breakfast good. We only stayed overnight - Location and price was good. Shower was useless and the bed to small.
- Debra (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable rooms. Comes with a bath and spotless...
- Zoe (10/5): Very beautiful - Very nice definitely eat again there It was perfect get away
- Lisa (7/5): Good -
- Vanessa (3/5): Expensive - Basic facilities No electric charger
Everything is extra costs
- Lady (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hayley (10/5): Great stay, felt cosy! - Got to the place in the evening due to catching up with friends, greeted by the staff warmly, felt at ease as soon as we got there, sign in was easy and quick, and one of the staff was brilliant even offered to take our bag to our room. The room was gorgeous, nice and spacious with a TV, tea and coffee, and bottles of water. Bath and shower was great. The beds were comfortable and there was extra pillows and a blanket, which we used.
- Kev (10/5): - Stayed 1 night for business trip, and it was wonderful.
Nice bar, comfortable room, nice food, and very friendly staff.
Will be booking again.
Thank you
- Andrew (8/5): Have stayed before will stay again - Room was a bit noisy as above kitchen but over all OK
- Thomson (8/5): Clean rooms. Good food. - Staff member that booked me in was very friendly, welcoming and professional as other staff. Nice size room. Good food and large portions. Room faced car park and unfortunately I couldn't have my windows open because people smoking outside. Bed uncomfortable.Staff member in restaurant who took our order didn't smile once and definitely not welcoming like other members.
- Bobby (10/5): - really helpful staff I enjoyed my stay and will return
- Jamie (8/5): Very good -
- Lee (9/5): Superb -
- Gillian (8/5): Perfect for our overnight stay. - We stayed in a budget room. It was perfectly clean and comfortable. The pub serves great food and the breakfast was lovely. The room was above the kitchen and a bit noisy until 9. Friday morning the bin men come very early and it was very noisy. Unfortunate that we stayed Thursday night.
- Nicola (8/5): Countryside retreat with some friendly touches - The staff and surrounding were amazing. The food was very good and breakfast cooked to perfection . Our room was small was functional for a one night stay Creaky floorboard although added to the character of the lodge , disturbed sleep when someone gets out of bed
- Holland (7/5): Experienced, friendly owners at a good value for money pub stay. - Great location if you have a car and are looking for a rural retreat for a large celebration or a wedding party. The pub is well-kitted out and the hot breakfast was great. The food menu is extensive and looks tasty. The rooms do not have great sound proofing. I could hear the people next to me when they arrived in the wee hours of the morning and were having a loud chat. It was New Years though....
- Godbless (9/5): Superb -
