Guest Reviews
- Dave (10/5): Perfect for us - Everything, the location , all the woodwork, The sunsets, the beach, the pool , the staff , it’s perfect for us and we come wherever we are in Huatulco

- deborah (7/5): Beautiful view of the ocean and sunsets. Not the most comfortable, no screens on windows - beautiful ocean view and sunsets No screens on windows.
- Tim (9/5): -

- Benjamin (10/5): Excellent - oasis of calm - Everything - Quiet, comfy, friendly staff -
- Terry (10/5): Beautiful place right on the beach with a very nice pool and restaurant. - Relaxing place to be! Very nice staff
- Paul (8/5): Great place to escape from the grind - The property is perfect for just lazing about the pool, listening to waves crash off the beach and having a few cocktails. There is a lovely breeze that helps cool you down in the sweltering heat.
The food is lovely and reasonably priced. The staff are there to help. The location is separated from Manzute via a really steep hill. It’s maybe 8-9% gradient / 30 metres up and down. It creates a barrier especially in the sweltering heat and led to us not exploring Mazunte as much.
The interior fixtures need some updating / cleaning. We had some issues with the room not being cleaned.
- Paco (9/5): 👍🏽 👍🏽 - Everything They did not sell me fruit because that fruit was for the next day 🙈🥴
- Laurent (9/5): -
- Roger (8/5): Fantastic beachfront hotel but an uphill walk to the town - Absolute beachfront location, but unfortunately someway to the town along an uphill dirt road to restaurants and bars as the hotel did not offer food after 3pm, great internet speed when working. No hot water on the last two nights.
- Dave (10/5): We spend a few nights every time we come down to Huatulco - We love this place, perfect location on a huge ,spectacular and pretty much empty beach, very nice pool with great ocean views
- Eliyahu (10/5): -
- Anahi (9/5): Thank you for having us! We had a great time and the staff was amazing, well be back - Is very well located and in front of the beach :) Normal in Mazunte but the internet had problems
- Handmark (8/5): Charming ocean-side retreat - This hotel is a little oasis right on the ocean. While there are houses on one side, planting help it to feel private. It has a lovely pool (long enough to swim laps), well-tended landscaping, a restaurant with a limited, but tasty, menu, and a charming and helpful staff. Our room was tucked out of the way. The most wonderful thing about the room, aside from the ocean view, was the gorgeous, intricate mosaic mural that serves as a headboard. (There was another stunning mural on the shared landing outside the room). When we first arrived there was a fresh breeze off the water, and we opened the sliding windows toward the water with confidence since there were screens on them. Later, the aircon worked okay to cool the room. At night, the double-paned windows muffled the ocean just right: we could still hear it, but it sounded distant and we slept soundly. Plenty of parking. We visited just after a huge storm hit the area. The road down to the hotel is unpaved for the last half kilometre, and is rutted. Our little rental car did okay on it. As for the hotel, while the public areas were lovely and the place has good bones, the room needed updating: curtains, bedspread, and lighting in the room need to be refreshed, along with the chairs on the private deck. We appreciated the insect screens on many of the windows, though a couple were torn and in need of replacement.
- jeff (10/5): - This property is an absolute diamond in the rough. We spent one night here and instantly added three more if you’re looking for peace and quiet at one of the most beautiful locations in the world this is it, nightly breathtaking sunsets. The staff is amazing very friendly and kind.My one negative is dinner, but I do understand as it is a very quiet small hotel and trust me they’re doing an amazing job with everything they have. we will absolutely return.
- Chris (8/5): - Staff were amazing. Property was well maintained and beautiful. Room was good and clean but the screens need some repair. Wifi was not great at times. Thank you for a wonderful stay
- Leanne (10/5): - Wonderful tranquil spot right on the beach. You do have to hike over the hill to get to a swimmable beach but others came to our sunset beach. Some of the property is older but a lovely new pool and quite fine restaurant made for a comfortable stay. Staff helped with getting us transport back to Oaxaca city making the end of our stay tranquil too.
- Gerardo (8/5): - Hermosos espacio
- Laura (6/5): - It has an amazing view, the beach is beautiful and since the ocean is red flag in that zone it is very quiet and clam beach.
The pool is nice, it was a beautiful location for us.
The room is spacious, but a little antiquated. The windows have very thin curtains so light enters with sunrise. Also all windows and doors are a little rustic so it takes a while for the room to cool, and the first night we had to use mosquito repellent. The towels need changing, they are clean, but old. Womens staff was very nice and in the mornings made a good breakfast, in the afternoon and at night the men staff were nice but the food was no good and were less helpful. Everything was clean, but one day after they cleaned the room it smelled as wet cloth.
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb - too much clorine in pool
- Danielk (10/5): Hotel on the water - Nice waterfront facility with pool and restaurant. Very easy to just hang around the hotel and enjoy it We would have liked curtains that were a bit more light blocking
- Junwei (10/5): - I had an excellent 9-night stay. The hotel was so beautiful with the pool, the patio, which is on the beach. Mermeijita beach is the sunset beach and I got to see the sunset sitting at the patio. I also spot whales passing by alot sitting at the patio having coffee or lunch. The hotel is very clean. Cleaning crew comes daily. The restaurant menu is very limited. I wish there's more breakfast items like omelets. They should have a sign at the beach side so people know it's a restaurant and can dine there. The hotel logo is in a very hard to read font so hard to spot. Love the atmosphere of the common area with soft music playing all the time. The lights in the common area seem to shut off around 10pm, which makes it a little hard to walk around. It'd be nice if thdy leave some lights on for safety. I noticed even when I left my outside lights on at night theh got to shut off by the staff. The shower had no hot water on the days there were fewer guests. It seems very low occupancy when I was there. Weekend has a bit more crowd but in general this is a very quiet, beautiful, resort-like hotel hidden on the beach. Way different than the noisy, busy vibe in town by Mazunte beach. The receptionist called a taxi for me when its time for me to leave for the airport. The taxi came within 10 minutes. He was very helpful and very polite the whole time. Will definitely come back and stay.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Beautiful spot on the water. Great place to watch the sunset. Staff were very helpful. Although the road from town to the property is a bit rough when you drive in, it is walkable such that you can leave your car parked during your stay.
- Dave (10/5): Didn't want to leave, booked another stay before we left, will be back in March - This place exceeded my expectations in every way . the pool was terrific ,watched whales and sunset from the restaurant patio . beautiful ,huge almost empty beach , until Sunset when the beach filled for the show
- Lucas (10/5): - Beautiful place
- Diana Zoraya (10/5): - Un lugar tranquilo. Maravilloso!! El personal muy amable. Deliciosa la comida. El hotel precioso!!
- Marlenne (10/5): - Overall good stay, beachfront, stayed 2 nights they lack of staff, I ordered one drink that took them 30 minutes. Not fault of staff who was attentive but I think they need more people to cover guest demands that’s all ..
- Jan (6/5): Great quiet place, could be better maintained - Great location on the beach, very quiet Was a bit far from town, the road to the hotel from the little town is rough.
The hotel Is nice, just lack of care for details, lots of things broken or damaged.
- andrew (10/5): - Great stay, and an amazing location
- Mandy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diaz (1/5): 2 days - Looks ok The beach
Staff service
- Miles (8/5): Very good - Nice comfortable room, Nice quiet beachfront Loud smooth jazz covers by the pool
Siempre anda a prisa.
- Heidi (8/5): Nice place but a bit overpriced - Pool and ocean was great. The beds were nice and soft.
The serving and cleaning staff and the cooks were very friendly and worked hard to please. The morning cappachinos were great. Ocean is very rough with rip tides so you cannot even bob out there.
The door heights in the rooms are very low. Both of us hit our heads a few times.
The bottom sheets did not stay on the mattresses at all. And the top sheet was a queen on a king bed.
There was no fridge in the room as they wanted you to buy all food and drinks there.
They had nice music playing by the pool but the same playlist the whole 4 days. 😂
- Mercedes (10/5): Cheladas in Paradise - So fortunate to have spent a week in paradise! Casa Ofelia is off the beaten path, right on the ocean and has everything you need to spend a relaxing week in paradise! My room was spacious, authentic and right on the water! The luxury of listening to the thunderous waves every night was impressive. Kudos to Mari & Carmen for making delicious breakfasts and lunches. Chef Arturo aims to please and will whip up whatever you crave! A special shout out to Luis for helping me along the way.
One note, Mazunte is not Cancun, you will not find hordes of tourists, Walmarts, Oxxo's etc. Due to recent rains some of the roads are washed out, so bring proper shoes if you want to explore. It's about a 10-15 minute walk into town down a dirt road with stones and pot holes. Looking for a reliable and honest taxi? Then call Carlos on WhatsApp! He's available for long and short rides and is very reliable! +52 958 111 5328
- Alejandro (10/5): Great weekend - Excelente hotel muy bonito y privado!
- John (9/5): Gorgeous location, wonderful staff - The staff were absolutely great. We arrived in a torrential rain, which was quite unexpected for the area. Nonetheless the young man who checked us in rolled up his sleeves and helped us slog through the water to our room with vast amounts of baggage. We were staying the week and had brought a full size cooler to supplement our meals, as otherwise we would have had to go out for everything we desired to eat or drink, except water. He stepped up again after the rain had made deep furrows in the road, making it difficult to drive. He suggested we park at the top of the hill at a sister property until it was clear there would not be a complete washout while we were there! And again we were assisted when we checked out a week later, stopped for another bag of ice for our cooler, and our car electronics went haywire. Eventually everything shut down, this in a town without a mechanic... We contacted the property to ask if they could suggest a tow truck option to the nearest large town 45 minutes away, but instead they sent out one of the administrators. He checked our battery, it was nearly dead. He provided a charge, the electronics returned to normal, and we were on our way. Really above and beyond expectations!
The location was fantastic, right on Mermejita Beach and easily walkable to two other beaches nearby, Our room looked across a small garden directly onto the surf. We could also sit on an elevated terrace directly overlooking the beach where we could watch the evening surfers, and sunsets. The pool was pristine and very welcome in the heat and humidity. I do not know how we could have withstood the heat had we not had that pool available to cool ourselves down.
Our room was large and attractive. The bed and pillows were comfortable. We mostly just used the ceiling fan, but a few times when we turned on the a/c it cooled quickly, quietly, and efficiently.
A restaurant is onsite, available all day, except on Friday. The room was just that. A room. No coffee maker, no TV (which we never turn on anyhow, but others might miss it), no microwave or any way at all to make or reheat one's own snacks or light meals.
- Johanika (10/5): - Best pool ever, very attentive service!
- Klaus (9/5): Superb -
- Pedro (9/5): Superb - Location, the size of the room the pool and the access to the beach so near to the room Maybe the curtains on the room don't provide to much privacy, as you can see inside the room at night.
- Kevin (7/5): Generally a lovely place to relax, friendly owner and staff and we enjoyed our stay. - The swimming pool was amazing and the property generally very comfortable and cozy. The reception was a little messy and the entrance / exit to the beach was a little messy and could be cleaned up better.
- Bernard (9/5): Idyllic setting with just the noise of the waves to enjoy. - This was a lovely peaceful stop for us to sit back and rest and enjoy. Directly on the beach we truly felt we had 'got away from it all'. Breakfast, drinks, snacks and evening meal were available and were delicious. Our room was on the first floor and we wish this could have been avoided as there were already steps on the property. There was no hand rail to get in and out of the pool and we would have preferred to have had that safety feature, however-I did just put a chair close by to steady myself! Personally I could have done without the music that was played in the bar area-not necessary.
- Cynthia (10/5): Beautiful location! Great service! - Delicious Nothing
- Maraika (7/5): Good - The menu is poor. That part did not meet my expectations being there are no other restaurants in site.
No mole in Oaxaca???? 🤦♀️ The restaurant menu
- Valentin (8/5): Very good -
- Marcel (9/5): Relax relax relax. Very peaceful. Connect with a pounding ocean - Fabulous location for watching magical sunsets Wish each room had a small bar fridge to put fruit for snacks. Restaurant closed very early so it was a long evening without option of snacks…. Hotel is a bit isolated from restaurants in Mazunte
- Farees (9/5): Superb - Great location right on the beach, very accommodating staff, and great value for money. Food also great as far as hotel food is concerned!
- Tim (8/5): Very good -
- Rafael (8/5): Fabulous sunstes - The place is right on the beach, with a large terrace/restaurant and a decent pool. Rooms are spacious and the private terrace provided a fabulous sea view. The electricity was sometimes failing and the internet was outright slow.
The restaurant is not recommended. We ordered a simple breakfast, which took more than an hour to serve, with only seven other people in the restaurant who had ordered equally simple items. When finally they served our food, it was already cold.
- Youko (10/5): Best place for relaxing - The view to the sea was amazing, the food was also really good, the rooms were super nice. I was a bit disappointed that you can’t swim in the beach that’s in front of it, because it’s dangerous
- Jim (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (10/5): Awesome spot to watch the beautiful Oaxacan sunsets. - The location of Casa Ofelia is exceptional. Right on the Mermejita beach below Punta Cometa with a fabulous view of the sunset. The rooms were spacious, the pool was big enough to swim laps (very unusual), the restaurant had great food. Our room had an ocean view++ & a big terrace++. We had a lot of mosquitos & there were no mosquito nets over the bed. One of the screens in the bathroom was open & we both got lots of bites. Recommended to the staff that they fix it. But they should also add nets over the bed. And a hammock on the terrace would have been great.
- Steven R (10/5): Excellent experience. - We enjoyed our stay at Casa Ophelia for three nights. Especially nice was being right on the ocean. A nice swimming pool pleasant surroundings and nice staff. Will stay there again. Close to the main shopping street in Mazunte.
- Merel (10/5): Great place to relax and enjoy your almost-private-beach - Amazing place at a quiet beach Mermejita. The swimming pool was amazing and beautiful. Food was great and service was good! We really enjoyed it here! It is quite a walk to the city center of Mazunte (10-15 minutes), but we didn't mind cause then at least we would get some exercise after all the chilling at the pool. :)
Also, even though we thought everything was very beautiful and good, I would say it is still a bit on the expensive side for what you get.
- Margaret (8/5): Very good - Lovely room with ocean view. Friendly staff. Location is a bit remote. Taxi ride is expensive and walk to town is steep uphill. Difficult for elderly in heat. Car is recommended.
Restaurant is only open until mid-afternoon.
- Jeanette (10/5): Wonderful property if you want beautiful ocean views and relaxation but close proximity to the town of Mazunte - Lovely view and peaceful. Wonderful pool. Beds we very comfy! We were in the high end room. Decent food. The perfect sunset view. A bit of a hike into the town but if you’re unable to walk or just lazy you can taxi- but there are a few nice shops and restaurants along the road and on the beach. The shower leaked into the toilet area so I was worried about it doing damage to flooring.
- Balogh (7/5): I love the place, but needs abit more service - We never had warm water and no restaurant after 6:00pm No food service after 6
- Hendrik (9/5): Superb - The staff is very friendly and the pool is amazing. The rooms are large and the bed was very comfortable. We liked it a lot!
- Kevin (10/5): Comfortable room, comfortable bed safe and quiet the pool was nice and clean beautiful sunset - The breakfast was delicious simple Mexican food fresh ingredients
We had late afternoon ceviche and then dinner fish plate. Simple but delicious. Yes, sir. The second night there was not a hook on the property so we had to go to town to eat we would’ve preferred to stay where we were but other than that it was it was great
- Karin (8/5): Very good - Beautiful setting on the beach with lovely pool. Quiet The bed was large but it had a foam plastic matrass on top ot normal ones plus a horrible plastic matress protector. Very hot and sticky and sweaty. Smelly bathroom. Restaurant is closed on sundays, 15 minutes walk to village
- Sharon (8/5): Get place to stay out of town but I suggest you rent a motorcycle - The pool and location Nothing really
- Jeanette (9/5): Excellent relaxing stay at Casa Ophelia. A beautiful property with great service. - Quiet and peaceful except for the construction it was going on next-door. However, you can’t really stop progress. It looks like it’s going to be another beautiful beach property.
This is for Mexico and I think it’s a more reasonable price because it’s a little bit out of Mazunte. It’s not perfect but the service is excellent and it’s pretty close to perfect. The pool is magnificent and a welcome rest from getting beaten up in the waves of the ocean.! It’s very relaxing and there’s lots of lounge chairs for anyone who wants the lounge. There’s really nothing I didn’t like, but one needs to be prepared that it is a walk up a pretty good sized hill, and back down the other side of it to get into the commercial touristy part of Mazunte and to get to the beach in Mazunte. You could spend all your time at the hotel, but it would be remiss to not enjoy the town as well and the beach there is lovely. You can take taxis if you aren’t up for the walk which can be very hot but if you’re a reasonable fitness level it’s not too difficult.
- Georgina (1/5): Bed bugs don’t stay here! - We arrived and it seemed to be going well until… We had to leave Casa Ofelia after our first night as we were bitten by bedbugs. We each had over 40 bites on our legs. We went to a medical professional and received medical attention as we have had a severe allergic reaction to the bites. The hotel failed to acknowledge that this is what happened and refused to compensate us. Please see below for a full outline to what happened:
1. Casa Ofelia was the first place which we stayed on the Oaxaca coast. Previous to this, we stayed in Mexico City which had a cold climate and none of our group experienced bites previous to staying at Casa Ofelia. We later stayed in alternative accommodation and have had no further bites.
2. When 2 of the 4 guests from our party (staying in separate guest rooms) received medical attention for the bites endured, the doctor was very clear that this was a result of bed bugs as per the areas / pattern in which the bites appeared on the ankles, feet and lower legs of the body.
3. The bites are very distinctive to being a bite of a bed bug (see images) as opposed to mosquito. Furthermore, we did not see or hear any mosquitos when at Casa Ofelia, and in researching what the bites may have been, before we went to the doctor, we understood that this is the low season for mosquitoes in the area.
4. We shared the doctors notes with the management, of which they took copies which had a special note in Spanish to inform the hotel management of the doctors findings.
6. We showed the manager the bites, and he could see that they were a localised area of the body and displayed a form and pattern of bedbugs. The manager acknowledged that the bites were from bed bugs and said that they’d had a problem previously in their other hotel the Alta Mira but never this one.
7. On leaving the hotel, we settled our Food and Beverage bill. The management suggested to off set this against the first room night but we declined as said that we would like a full refund.
8.
- J (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): beautiful hotel - The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful and the room is clean and comfortable.
Best place to watch the sunset! Nothing about the hotel. But check how the roads leading to the location are.
If there was a storm recently, there may be slides and bumps which make a compact or sedan car have a tough time getting there.
- Marc (9/5): Superb - Excellent beach, lovely place.
- Eylene (10/5): Perfect get away! - Beach front, very friendly staff. Beautiful location. Excellent AC in the rooms, pool is the perfect temperature. some relaxing music by the pool would just make it perfect. Sunset on the beach and a drumming circle right in front the property.
