- Holly (8/5): A quick overnight that was a very pleasant surprise - The ease of checking was amazing! The room was large and comfortable with some thoughtful touches. The only small issue we had was the lack of lighting in the bathroom. The ceilings are very high, which is usually great but the lights were so high that it made it hard to put makeup on or see details.

- Sue (10/5): The Big Horse was convenient to our travels.. The hotel was clean and cute! - The decor was fun and creative!
- thomas (8/5): The motel is nice but the working people starting firing up their diesel trucks about 5:00 AM - The room was nice and clean. The family restaurant down the street was good. The exterior doors were never locked. There wasn't anybody at the desk in case an intruder decided to come in. The windows don't meet egress requirements. If there is a fire there is only one escape route and that is through the door. The use of keys for the room locks isn't good. Anybody staying there could have a duplicate made and break in at any time. We stayed in number ten and it is an ADA bathroom but the door swings the wrong way, the distance from the edge of the stool to the shower would not permit a wheelchair to enter the shower, and there isn't enough room for a person in a wheelchair to spin a wheelchair around and get on the stool.

Great place, great people and great price :) Can’t forget the Black Maple coffee right next door that is also wonderful. Great all the way around.

- Melissa (10/5): - We are originally from Lewistown and were in town visiting family for the holidays, so booked a room at Big Horse Inn. It was the second time I’ve stayed there, but the first for my sister. The rooms are very comfortable, and extra clean. Shoot out to the housekeeping staff for keeping it in such great condition. We had a great stay. The only minor thing was I wished the bathroom had better lighting or a lighted makeup mirror so I could see better to put in contacts, put on makeup, etc. Not a deal killer, just would be nice. I’m so glad our hometown has a nice place to stay, especially since our parents have a small home with only one bath, so it gets crazy with all the family there. Nice to have a quiet, comfortable retreat like Big Horse Inn.

- Stefan (9/5): Great find in an unexpected place. - OK, this place is great. Rustic/chic decor, comfortable and spacious rooms, attractive lobby, very clean and almost everything worked. Two very minor things: no coffee maker in room and coffee maker in lobby broken, no ice machine.
- Bill (8/5): - We liked the unique room furnishings. It had a great shower and bathroom. The bed was comfortable. It did seem more like a bed and breakfast rather than a motel. Our key and reservation were on the counter to sign and then go to our room. We saw no one until we checked out. The keurig did not work, but we enjoyed the snacks left there for us to take. The walls seemed thin and our next door neighbors were loud until midnight. Overall it was a nice place to stay.
- Mary (10/5): Wonderful rural town stay! - We enjoyed this small town stay very much! We were traveling in our show car and felt it a safe place. The building was well maintained and inside clean with wonderful country decor. Guessing they are extremely covid safe- it was self check-in and out- never did meet any staff? They have a cute coffe & sandwich shop, Casey's across the Street, and a wonderful hometown cafe across the stree as well.

If I HAVE to say a negative, it would be that the parking situation is not super clear. However, this is minor in the grand scheme of things, and I was quickly able to figure it out by mimicking the other vehicles there.

- Louise (10/5): Don't miss this gem! - Big Horse Inn is a hidden gem in this part of Illinois. It is perfectly located, close to Dickson Mounds (great hiking trails), Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge, and the Illinois/Spoon River area. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. Self check-in could not have been easier. Don't miss the attached Black Maple coffee shop for delicious breakfast and lunch options (and coffee, of course). The inn is within easy walking distance of a traditional small-town diner, Casey's, and Dairy Queen, so plenty of options for any dining budget!

The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The coffee bar/snacks were well stocked. We appreciated the open area for visiting. While the Inn was EXCELLENT, the nearby dining choices were limited. The attached coffee shop, Black Maple Coffee, and the Mexican restaurant down the road had positive reviews from family members.

- Sandy (6/5): - Big Horse Inn is a quiet clean place to stay. There is no one at the front desk at all. The rooms are too dark for me. There are no microwaves in the rooms. There are no towel hooks or bars near the showers. There are no reading lights in the rooms. There is no hot breakfast included just a few packages snacks at the front counter. I do like that the building is attached to Black Maple coffee which has food and beverages. I think a few tweaks to this hotel would raise my score.
- Ronda (10/5): Great motel - Needed a last minute room. Reviews looked good so booked. All info was on the desk. First thing i noticed besides the obvious country charm is it looked clean and comfortable from the loiby on down the hall. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Everything worked as it should. Only thing would have made it better was coff in the room. But it was available in the lobby. Didnt notivmce the restaurant on the end of the building untin we were pulling back out on the highway or we'd have stopped in for breakfast. But the snack bars and such in the lobby were a nice touch. Will definitely stay again if we need a room in that area.
