- Brian (1/5): I expect a FULL REFUND $530.87 ! - The Evening Shade doesn't exist anymore. It apparently was taken during hurricane Helene. The fact that we had no where to stay once arriving.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - We chose this place based purely on its location and hoped for the best. It didn’t wow us, but it didn’t disappoint. My biggest issue is that there was no one in the office for check in, our key was in an envelope with our names on it taped to the office door with a page of instructions, and we had to call the number on the instruction sheet to find out about things like the wifi only to be told that it was in “the notebook”. The notebook they referred to was buried in a basket that I had to dig around and find. The notebook had interesting information in it, like a page instructing us not to turn the a/c below 70° or it would freeze and we’d have no a/c. The dishes in the cabinet and drawer were not clean, guests are to wash, dry, and put dishes away and someone didn’t seem to understand what that means,

- Klyn (8/5): Great view from the balcony, and close to everything! - The view from the balcony, and its proximity to the river is what sold us on the room. The sitting area along the river was really nice. There were chairs, a fire pit, two or three charcoal grills, and even a swing. We got off to a rocky start when the key for my room would not unlock the door. We got there around 4 PM, found our key in an envelope taped to the door, and tried several times to open the door. Our neighbor even tried! I called the number listed, and the man who answered it acted as if I didn't know how to use a key. He said they were out to dinner, and he would be back in about 30 minutes or so. He came within the 30 minutes, and lo and behold, the door wouldn't open for him either! Finally, we got in and got unpacked. The room was very small, but adequate. The bed was very uncomfortable.

- Kim (10/5): - Our stay was amazing. You are transported back in time to this quaint, little, cabin like room and property. It is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. Property is right on the river. We sat by the river on the swing in the mornings. I sat on a rock reading a book for hours while listening to the sounds of the river. At night, we were able to make a fire and hang out with other guest at the fire pit.

Loved the reviews from others about Evening Shade so we decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint. Yvonne and Jim were so pleasant. They were running errands when I called but said they would hold the room until we arrived. I inquired about places to eat nearby. We tried the Lake house for dinner and Victory Restaurant for breakfast. Both were excellent recommendations. Our room was perfect. Small area but plenty big for us. We Loved it had a front and back porch. Parking in front of your room. Inside there was a small couch, side tables have lamps and plugs in for chargers, there is a small refrigerator, TV, bed, closet, and basic bathroom necessities. The room was Spotless!!!! The towels and sheets smelled amazing. I would love to know what they use as it smelled that good. The sheets were super soft and the comforter and decor was beautiful and welcoming. The bed was perfect. They also have creek and chimney rock views along with a view of Hickory Nut Falls. They have several fire pits near the water with chairs (folks please take out your trash. Sad to see what folks leave). There are picnic tables and swings for guests to enjoy down by the water. We loved it there so much we stayed another night.

Nice town strip right up the road and not far past full grocery store and very cheep access to maintained beach. Great getaway with Chimney Rock park right there. See the waterfall from your front porch then go clime up to it a sit under it! Ac wasn't the cleanest in the first room and the network was down right away for a small section of the property. But nothing in their control as Spectrum wouldn't come out to fix it for 5 days! Full points to the Lodge for trying to fix the problem, then when stone walled by the company they made accommodations for us at no extra charge. Great cabin and view as well!

The advertising was misleading. On the page it said the kitchen was included. And we went with the thought of it being included. We also saw that it was spacious with a sofa bed. When we arrived we were disappointed with everything. The wifi was horrible, the fridge wasn't even cooling, the TV didn't work.

- Wise (10/5): Mountain retreat rooms - Love the location close to town & right on the stream. The rooms are older but nicely decorated kind of rustic. Very appropriate for the mountains. Also very clean! The rooms are close to the road so you do hear some traffic going by.

The bathroom did its job, towels were soft and plenty, even had makeup towels and complementary essentials. Just some mold up the walls and on the ceiling, there was no fan in there. The river was the nicest addition to the stay. Since the room was small, it was nice to sit out on the rocker or go down on the rocks and watch the river. The downtown tourist area is a minute down the road. It is such a nice spot we would definitely consider coming back.

- Yashira (8/5): - I have mixed feelings about this place. The location was ok. I LOVED the creek behind the place and I would stay here again just because of that. I LOVED seating on the porch looking at chimney rock also while listening to the creek and birds. Ok I love nature and the back of this place did it for me. The property itself is fine, BUT only bcz I’m 5’2. I could touch the ceiling and my arm wasn’t even fully extended. Anyone over 5’6 would have to dock. No coffee in the room, but they do provide coffee in the front office.

- Dengler (10/5): Joyful, peaceful, wonderful experience - Yvonne was the very best. She is kind and thoughtful. I had a chest cold while there from allergies to the trees of North Carolina. Yvonne sent me some lovely pomegranate juice to bolster my system. She had coffee delivered. She genuinely cared and was so kind. I decided to add two days to my trip. Tim was wonderful and came to fix my rocking chair when a slat came loose. The two of them made my stay divine. I had the most perfect cabin, the one with a one bedroom and living room. Plus a large wide deck with big rocking chairs. I spent hours on my deck listening to the many birds singing and the water of the river rushing over gentle falls. I saw a groundhog as well as the squirrels, cardinals and a passing by black bear (I have these at home in Lake Tahoe) One of my best places to stay ever. Thank you Yvonne and Tim

- Verified traveler (8/5): Chimney Rock.. - On the plus side, the owners of the property were very nice and it was located right by the river. It was also a short drive to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. That being said, the wifi in that area is very spotty. Also, the bathroom fixtures were old, but everything did work. Parking was a little tricky as well.

They coffee in a thermal thing in the morning by the office and that was nice too. The lady was very friendly when we checked out. To close to road but it was ok.

- Kurt (3/5): Scenic Disappointment - The location was great, right on the river. Room had a separate kitchen. The room was extremely musty; carpet was old and appeared dirty; bed was so 'springy' that my wife and I couldn't sleep together. When one person moved, the other moved, so I slept as best I could on the couch. Staff was friendly and said if we would have told them our complaints, they would have moved us. But it was 10 pm when we discovered problem with the bed.

- suzannemD3751LK (10/5): New room look - We come here all the time and have been for the past 4 years multiple times a year. Man they have done some amazing renovations. From the new office look to the rooms. JUST WOW.. we get the same room each time and when I opened the door my jaw dropped. It looked totally different. We loved it before but now we are totally in love. Yall have got to check this place out. From the amazing Yvonne & Tim to the newly renovated rooms to the breathtaking views to the rumbling of the river to the fire pits to the fresh coffee each morning this was the best trip ever. Thank yall for making our home away from.home even better
- Kevin (10/5): Perfect lodge - Quaint lodge on the Broad River, just below Chimney Mountain. Open the windows and let the sounds of the Broad River lull you to sleep. Wake up with coffee and enjoy the view and sounds. We will definitely stay there again if in the area.

- Enes (10/5): Great time! - The Lodge is right in front of the river with a great view both on the river and in the falls. The lodge was clean and had everything neeeded.
- Dana (10/5): - This is an older property that has maintained the vintage charm of a bygone era. If you expect modern and new amenities like the chains this isn’t the right choice for you. If you want a unique stay that is true to the character of the area with a fabulous location this is a great pick. We stayed in the bungalow apt and enjoyed our stay. It was spacious and clean. Plenty of clean towels. The kitchen was well outfitted for cooking and eating in, which we did on the covered private deck since it rained. The riverside area is the best in Chimney Rock IMHO. There are grills and firepits and seating to enjoy the beautiful view. It was very stormy during our stay and there was a power outage during the night. The room is outfitted with emergency lighting. This was a blessing because this area is pitch black dark without city light polution casting a glow. It was a little bright, but better than tripping blindly around an unfamiliar space. Thank you to the owners for thinking of these kind of details for their guests. You can tell they care about the property.
