Guest Reviews
- Kevita (4/5): - My room was not cleaned the entire time I was there I kept having to get to go to the front desk for clean towels the dirty towels were never picked up, trash never picked taken out and I was charged for parking I didn’t use
- David (2/5): - Dirty apartment, missing all the hotel amenities. Shower drain barely worked.
- Katherine (8/5): - Overall pleasant experience, helpful and friendly staff
- Jonathan (8/5): - The front desk is exceptional. Some of my issues are the fact that check-in is not the same place that you stay, so the first time can be confusing.
They also do not give you a key to the stairs, so you have to take the elevator (which shakes rather violently). I would bring some cleaning utensils because some of the room materials were not clean. However, customer service was quick and superb! Whenever I called and I had an issue, It was remedied quickly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would definitely stay again - Fantastic location for the price and great customer service
- Travelerfromhome (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The sink was clogged and dirty water came up when I ran the faucet, the furniture was chipped and old, the windows were covered in some sort of translucent sheet so you couldn't see out or open them, there was a LARGE standing a.c. that boomed out air, and the entire place was worn. When I went to take the toaster down, crumbs fell out from the last person who used it. It was all around dirty and gross. DO NOT stay in this place.
- Michelle (6/5): - First I have to have to say that the manager of the Mark Spencer (which is the hotel handling Washington Plaza bookings) was amazing! His name is Alex and he is absolutely the best! I switched rooms at WP after one night due to my first one being dirty (crumbs all over kitchen counters/table/floor, microwave filthy, hair on my towels and all over bathroom, bathmat was stained and wet). He personally guided me to my choice of a new room. I picked a different room as at first glance it seemed ok. However, it was in serious need of updating/repair/maintenance. Walls and carpet in bad shape (looked like poop stains on carpet - maybe someone brought their dog?), one light in bathroom burned out, microwave and fridge were filthy, hair on my towels and bedding, kitchen floor not mopped. I have to say the bed was super comfy though. Unfortunately, I won’t be staying here again even though location is very convenient.
- Kevin (4/5): 1/2 step of from a hostel. Checked out early. - This place was old and run down. The kitchenette was poorly stocked with old dishes; one of the 2 coffee cups looks to have stained with 20+ years of use. The microwave button kept getting stuck/would not latch. The furniture was old and very well worn. The AC unit was very loud, did not allow the (broken) blinds to be closed. There are not curtains over the mismatched blinds= no way to block out light. The bathroom, which you needed to step up 4 inches into, was gross and NOT CLEAN. I cleaned the sink area of black and brown filth. The sink was not actually attached to the vanity. The shower curtain and toilet seat both had what looked like burn marks on them? The shower did make me feel tall as I had to squat to rinse my hair - I’m only 5’9. The carpet at MINIMUM needs a deep clean. I figured I could make it work for my trip, however, I checked out early. I should have known my stay wouldn’t go well with the rude attitude I received at check in.
- Tennah (10/5): - It was giving "staying at a friend's house. Simple and was easy to make ourselves at. Especially for our weekend trip... we didn't need anything extra... it was comfortable!
- Sheldon (8/5): - Easy access to public transport
- Jo (6/5): - The room was adequate. You get what you pay for. This was a good price and the room was okay. No specific issues. The bathroom could use updating. We opted not to use the shower. The large homeless population made the neighborhood feel sketchy. Obviously not the fault of the property owners.
- Jerry (10/5): - Close to Public transportation. Easy to get around.
Took a while for the water to get hot, but when it did, it got really hot.
- Randy (10/5): - Dirty couch
- AprilJoy (6/5): Not extraordinary, not terrible. - The apartments were okay. Had a window AC unit, which worked well (in our 2nd room). Main lobby had stairs, so hauling suitcases was somewhat difficult, but we saw signs for accessible entrance after-the-fact. They were very accommodating to all of our requests. Parking was $32/night!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): great customer support - I had a great time, the hotel was nice, and the room was spacious. They messed up our booking due to construction, and instantly made it right in the best way possible. 10/10 experience.
- AmyJune (8/5): convenient location - Good location. We have stayed here before, but this time it felt a bit grungier. The courtyard had trash and the hallways needed a good vacuuming.
Last time we stayed it was fine, maybe just a one-off.
It's a very convenient location to train, park, and downtown.
- Daniel (8/5): - I actually love this place. It is an actually apartment building with residents where the apartments on some floors are rented by the day as hotel rooms. Great area with restaurants and supermarket, Powell's Booksw. Older and not particularly updated but very comfortable and clean. The BED was wonderful. I slept like better than ever.
- Ashley (8/5): - Asked for more towels they never came by with them and our room had a half used roll of toilet paper for a 3 days stay had to ask for more but the gentleman at the front desk was really helpful when I checked in and helped me find the place
- Thomas (8/5): - The property was conveniently located. All front desk communications were with the Mark Spencer Hotel next door. The front desk staff at M-S were exceptional. We only stayed two nights so not sure if the lack of a visit from housekeeping was normal for that length of stay. However, whenever we did go next door for something (
- sharayap2025 (4/5): Complete disrepair in a great location - The bed and sheets are the only nice thing about staying at the Washington Plaza Appartments (run by this hotel)
The couch was so gross we had to cover it with an extra blanket before sitting on it and the shower made you feel dirty. The appartment also was not cleaned well between visitors. I would not recommend this location for the price they're charging.
- Bion (10/5): - Will stay again next time in Portland
- Erin (4/5): - Dirty floors that haven't been vacuumed, dirty toilet, stained sheets, no central heat or air, poor sound proofing. The one plus was that there is a secure gate before anyone can enter the building.
- Carrie (10/5): - Stayed for an OHSU conference. I will stay again next year.
- Troy (2/5): - At the very last moment, they managed to turn a five-star review into a one-star by illegally evicting me after 60 days of continuous residency. I pointed out that this was illegal so they sent their security going to harass me ehl I packed. His name is Mike. He's a big fella, but clearly misguided, and I suspect a little slow.
Alyssa at the front desk is a whiz with the computer systesnd pleasant to chat with, but she won't hesitate to violate your rights for the sale of profits either.
Jeers to all at the Marc Spencer and the Washington Plaza Apartments. I hope your shot burns to the ground, but that everyone gets out safely.
I've got news for you folks. You just work where the rich folks stay. You're not actually rich folks and it is glaringly obvious. Stop embarrassing yourselves.
With that, you may smooch the hairiest part of my butt, you effing morons.
- Troy (2/5): - It was fantastic until the sudden, no-notice eviction on day 61 of my stay in the same room. Members of the Oregon bar, feel free to reach out.
- CHUNWEI (10/5): - There’s no air conditioning.
- Michael (4/5): - If you are on a budget location wasn’t bad just have walk few blocks to heart of city!
- Jesus M. (6/5): - It
- Patrick (8/5): Cozy - It was very comfortable
- Stephanie (4/5): - Old and run down. Laundry ate money and smelled like mildew. Plus pretty sure we had a super natural guest in our room.
- Paul (10/5): - Perfect downtown location. Fully equipped kitchen. Plenty of storage to get your luggage out of the way
- Corey (10/5): - Spent the last few nights here. Great location, it’s close to transit to get you wherever you need to get to but also close to food and shopping if you choose. My room was very spacious and filled all my needs.
Only drawback is that it can be a bit noisy as the building is a bit old.
Regardless I would definitely come back again if I was in the neighborhood again.
- Seattlas (6/5): - It was good pricing and nice place
- Scot (10/5): - $32 usd per night for parking
- Jake (6/5): Bad check in experience - The stay was good. The check in was horrible. The front staff was not nice and helpful.
- John (10/5): - Amazing location
- Amy (8/5): - Our apt was great except for the shower head and ridiculous lack of water pressure. The building was extremely secure and within walking distance of everything downtown.
- Gina (10/5): - This apartment complex was so cute had a little kitchen dining table bathroom & bedroom wall heaters were working great. No issues it smelled like Clorox cleanness that’s when you know it’s real clean haha
- Stephen (8/5): - Great location, walkable and quick access to highway. Great value for apartment with separate bedroom and small kitchen.
- Carlynn (10/5): - Excellent location, dated but spotless. Staff at Mark Spencer terrific.
- Claude (10/5): - Great, as always
- Briana (10/5): - Would stay again.
- Sara (8/5): - My stay was satisfactory. I liked the character of the unit but it was a little light on amenities and the bathroom didn’t feel quite clean. I also liked the location and proximity to the train stops.
- Michael (10/5): - Shower in the room was a tad small even for one person. But that is the only thing. Great place if you want to see the city on foot and use public transportation. You could spend a week walking around and seeing new things and nevet go more than 6 blocks from your room.
- Joury (6/5): - The best part of my stay was the staff & service as they were polite and helpful. The elevator and the room itself both felt outdated. The room could have been more clean. There were random hairs in the restroom sink and on the mat. I wasn’t a fan of the smell in the room as it smelled outdated as well. I appreciated the AC in there, but it was the worst thing in terms of noise. It sounded as if the window was open all night so I could hear absolutely everything going on outside and got very little sleep as I’m a light sleeper. The AC also felt like it was turning off too often no matter the temperature so I felt hot throughout the night and normally I run cold. Overall, not the best stay and I’m unsure if I’ll return as the price was low, but so was the quality.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointed. - Not great. Stayed here last year and it was better. Straight off the toilet was didn’t have water and couldn’t flush. The shower was ridiculously small. Phone line only sometimes worked.
- Devon (8/5): - Great place to stay
- Kimberlee (4/5): - I will never stay there again. The TV was about the only decent part of the room. Inconvenient outlets, no outlet next to the bathroom mirror, only mirror, no sink plug, no room on the sink for anything', I could go on. $100/ NT for that lack of comfort!
- Emily (10/5): - This unit was in a convenient area, within walking distance of everything we needed to do. It wasn't a large room, but good for a few days, especially considering we spent most of our time out and about. I would book it again.
- Eric (10/5): - All around good stay. Friendly staff. Awesome location. There may be permanent residents in the building. Had to listen to a boyfriend rage in an argument with his girlfriend at one point. Life in the city?? Would definitely stay there again.
- chris (10/5): - real great////dont expect luxury...
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nothing bad to say.
- TJ (8/5): - The convenience of this property can’t be beaten. The building is very secure but be cautious at night walking to and from the apartment. There are homeless and mentally unstable people yelling at night or banging on something near the property. During the day is no issue. Great food next door at Cheryl’s and close to vegan bakery Petunias !
- Lindsey (10/5): - Very close to excellent Portland night life. Rooms have a full kitchen. Bring your own coffee!
- Emily (6/5): - It was quite loud.
- Irene (10/5): - My gf and I stay here because it was easy walking distance to the Crystal Ballroom, and the price was great. Its an older building, and not the most convenient in some ways, like we had to check in at one place, but then walk outside around the block to access the building where our room actually was, but it wasn't a huge deal. The room itself was great! Its obviously an old apartment building, so the room is basically an old studio appt, with a entire little kitchen setup, including some real dishes! We were very happy with our stay and will for sure be back!
- Savannah (8/5): - Very cute character property close to several excellent restaurants. Quite quiet, clean and the kitchenette was handy.
- Steven (6/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful. Inconvenient to go down and get friends.
- Ira (10/5): - GreaT location and clean!
- Ira (10/5): - One of the best stays so far! Beautiful, and I mean beautiful building-but the best was the full kitchen with stove fridge sink. And, the most comfortable bed I’ve been in so far. And the staff who were on the desk; Brent and Harrington were so welcoming and knowledgeable about what to do in the area. This will be my go to hotel whenever I am back in Portland.
- Raymond (8/5): - Staff were excellent. They let us keep our parking after we checked out.
- Terri (8/5): - Cute little room. Great value. Parking was another $35 on top of room cost and very limited and small.
- Shaelyn (8/5): - Its was super nice and secure for the price. Imthe check in was confusing. But now that ive done it, its worth the pice
- Nearry (10/5): - It was fine
- Michael (6/5): - Check in not the most pleasant. Had to figure out in the dark and cold that it's at a joint hotel. Not a new as I was expecting being downtown. TV and cable was terrible but but was comfortable until you look underneath. Feel free to sweep...
- Lindsey (10/5): - Great location and staff were very nice. I love staying here and will again in the future.
- Terry (2/5): - Room was terrible. Parking is $28.
- Crystal (10/5): - Older property but it is maintained very well. The location was awesome!
- CRYSTAL (6/5): - This is a very sparce low fee, short or long term stay apartment building. Great location. Always clean. Bed is good, towels and linens are nice. Everything else is very old and not nice - but at least clean!
- Lindsey (10/5): - Convenient location for downtown adventures. Would stay here again.
- Dionne (10/5): - Staff was very friendly and location was great!
- Amanda Gabrielle (10/5): - Checking in was amazing and we were able to check in early. The staff was very helpful thru the whole stay.
- Audrianna Kristine (8/5): - We have stayed here before and never had an issue it’s always been quiet place and convenient area. However I feel the cleanliness could be better, there were left over towels in closet on floor from previous booking which left me questioning how good they cleaned the room. Other then that we’ve always had a good stay here
- 376allanj (2/5): Avoid - The entrance is run down. The rugs, unkept, were worn and past their prime. The bathroom was small and lacked attention so much so I didn’t even take a shower. The cups were dirty in the cupboard. We covered the chairs with towels as we didn’t want to sit on them. Positively, the sheets and towels were clean. The bed was too soft and suspect it’s has been well used.
- Justin (6/5): - The location was decent except for homeless people and open drug users on the streets. Stumbled upon a few in the stairwells of the building. Called the staff and they said “oh we just kicked him out” leading me to believe it happens all the time. There was an old bra, old condom wrappers, trash, and other old items left in the room upon arrival. Left me wondering about overall cleanliness… Safety and security also felt questionable. The door lock to the room was half broken and felt like the door could just be pushed a little and pop open. I don’t think I would stay here again, but everything turned out ok. Portland!
- JSway107 (8/5): You get what you pay for, but that's okay - I loved the location. I loved the old school elevator and the old building. And for a single traveller, the room was perfect size. You can't beat the option to cook a snack in your own spot. The bed was way too squashy for my taste and there was a problem with the blinds in the window, but I let them know as I was leaving. Hopefully they will get fixed/replaced. There were only 3 hangars, so ask for more at the front desk.
But, you must know what you're getting into. Was there street noise, yes. Even this country girl got used to it pretty quickly. Were there dumpsters being emptied at an ungodly early hour? yes, but that's what happens when you stay in a busy city district. There were a few drifters around, but they didn't bother me.
There are close locations to rent bikes & scooters, restaurants, breweries, public transit. It was a great spot to squat and I loved every minute.
- Alicia (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at the Washington plaza. The location was pretty good and I really liked how secure the building was. the bed was comfortable. My only complaints were that the bathroom was tiny and that in the middle of the night the garbage would be picked up and it was soooo loud. The windows are single pane so you heard everything. We would stay here again.
- Wayne (4/5): - WiFi signal in my room continually disconnected. I upgraded and moved to a room in Mark Spencer Hotel.
- Margaret (6/5): - The apartment itself was very nice, clean, well -stocked with most essentials. I especially appreciated the floor air conditioning unit! But the wifi never worked and the tv cable signal was shaky at times
- Katrina (6/5): - The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly & accommodating, but our room faced a street that had a garbage pickup every morning at 6am!! It was those huge dumpsters too. Even on weekends!! It was so so loud and frustrating.
- Sandra (10/5): - We felt very safe behind the gate and key card access only elevator. Everything is walkable from here or jump on a Max bus or streetcar.
- EMIR (4/5): - The location is nice, a lot of restaurants, public transportation is available. So it is cinvenient. However, It was noisy at night, and early in the morning because of garbage trucks. A lot of homeless in the area that was a littl bit scary.
- Christine (2/5): - The check in was horrible. Check in at a different place. They didn’t give us enough instructions of where to find our building and where to park. Parking was horrible, narrow, not easy to find. Hotel surrounding was stink with urines by homeless people.
- Yonatan (8/5): - Location, transportation, walkable, safety, and central.
- Nearry (8/5): - It’s not fancy but doable
- Nathan (8/5): - Convenient area, excellent service.
One thing I did not like is that the shower was very low so showering was...interesting.
- Augh (10/5): - Loved my stay here , loved my room
- Ryan (6/5): - Parking is really bad.. too narrow and not enough spaces. People take up two parking spots and it’s too hard to turn and back up when needed. Bad air flow in the room. Very hot and fan doesn’t really help.
- 288ruthief (4/5): Just off the mark - For business trips I've been in a lot of hotels and have tried this one a couple of times to be downtown. The staff is always really sweet and helpful but the rooms are inconsistent and sometimes have strange layouts. My co-workers room didn't have a tv. No a/c. A coffee maker but no coffee in the the adjoining kitchen. The fridge could have been cleaner. Both our rooms were very hot. So we had to open windows to the night traffic to keep cool. Stained carpet in my closet. Parking was under the hotel itself or a small lot across the street. The bed slept great however. Plenty of pillows. Clean sheets. Overall just needs a makeover. So we may move on until then.
- Virginia (10/5): - Location is great for everything! The main hotel is awesome with great service. Check in was a breeze. Rooms are fairly priced. So far so great!
- Luis Flores (10/5): - Everything was well
- Janet (2/5): - I resent properties that are let out with no cancellation fees. I knew 72 hours into the property that I wasn't going to make it, but they still took all the money. That sucks.
- Marj (8/5): - Parking and check-in for WA plaza Apartments for first timers should have been explained ahead of time.
Good sizes apace. Simple & comfortable.
- Alicia (10/5): - Great property, very comfortable bed and it was a very clean room. Kudos to the very friendly front desk staff and the housekeeper who took care of this room!
- Eric (8/5): - Easy walk to downtown,Pearl district or the NW Room was clean with a kitchenet ,not fancy but does the job and everything works. . Also close to bus and Trimet rail connections. Easy walk from train station. It was after a snow storm so no problem getting around.
Older apartment and thermostats ,a spare blanket would have been nice in the closet. Only thing I would add is a coffee maker. If you wanted coffee you had to leave the building and walk around the corner to Mark Spencer Hotel that manages it and get coffee in the lobby. Coffee shops in area don't open until 0800 !
- Marsha (8/5): - Easy check-in at the Mark Spencer and all the amenities at the Mark Spencer were available to us: wine tasting, parking garage, lobby lounge. We had 2 rooms, one was very much older and in need of updating to bring it into this century. Overall the condition was worn and tired, but everything was clean. Worth it for the price and location.
- Stefanie (10/5): - Cool hotel, very clean nice staff overall good experience
- Busaga D (8/5): - I liked the location and the staff was friendly.
The parking should be included in the room price or it should be free.
- wfotcn (6/5): Understaffed and past its prime - This is a review for the Washington Plaza Apartments which is managed by the Mark Spencer front desk. I don;t know if it reflects what the hotel room looks like but my room was dirty and it was hard to get help because they were understaffed. I don't know what to compare it to though. Maybe it's the best post pandemic Portland Downtown has to offer?
- Christine (8/5): - While the property is older, you can't really beat the rates the rooms are going for - you also get the same amenities and it's still convenient to walk everywhere in central downtown Portland.
