Guest Reviews
- chris (10/5): - Lovely clean place
Friendly staff
Nice room Nothing
- Douglas (5/5): Basic - No breakfast taken, only continental available. Bar and restaurant shut on a Monday
- Elizabeth (9/5): Everything you could wish for - Location, friendly staff

- N4131GVmandyd (10/5): Great night stay - First time staying, would definitely recommend. We arrived for check in quite late at 9pm and Daniella could not have been more helpful and friendly. The room was spotless, comftable and great value. The breakfast was excellent with a great amount of choices and again the value and service was perfect.
- Simpson (8/5): Check portion size - Nearly everything The size of the haddock I thought it was a half portion I do not make a point due to we only had a young lady behind bar and I do not like moaning to a bar person
- Linda (8/5): Good stay. - Very polite and helpful staff. Comfortable clean room. Great breakfast. Very poor lighting in room. Quite a weak shower with hard-to-understand controls.
- Ivan (10/5): Good value for money no complaints about any aspect of our stay, well done to the management and staff - Easy to find, staff very friendly, food excellent and good size comfortable room
- Valerie (8/5): All in all as a family of 4 adults and a 12 year old, we enjoyed our stay - The hotel is situated in a leafy village only 15 minute walk to the train station. We used it to go into Liverpool.
We stayed Sunday and Monday night and the hotel was very quiet. Only Continental breakfast is served in the week but it was sufficient for our needs, with cereal, yoghurt, fruit, toast and a selection of pastries on offer. The Woodcote is a small, basic hotel but warm, clean, comfortable with very friendly and helpful staff.
The hotel is used a lot locally for private parties and also they put on a lot of entertainment by way of tribute bands. The bar closed at 7.00 on the Sunday and closed on Monday.
- Linda (10/5): Lovely hotel, easy access to Chester and Cheshire Oaks, relaxed and comfortable hotel. - Lovely comfortable bedrooms, staff were all exceptionally friendly and helpful, had dinner and breakfast - both great food and service. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Gareth (10/5): -
- Meryl (7/5): At the price paid in my opinion the breakfast should be included - The room was larger than expected. It was easily accessible if you are ok with stairs. The floors are rather creaky. The provisions are pretty basic.
- Z5762GHelizabethc (10/5): Quiz Night at the Woodcote - Quiz night at the Woodcote on the last Tuesday of the month is a great way to spend a night out,Steve is an excellent quiz host lots of fun gets all the groups involved it’s really good fun,I would highly recommend it if a group of friends are looking for something to do on a Tuesday night.a fun night out for everyone.Lizzy the Koala’s.
- Mark (8/5): - Clean comfortable & affordable.
- 295niamhd (10/5): Pub Quiz - Super warm & welcoming place. Our family go monthly to Amour Events quiz hosted by Steve and he is a great quizmaster. Brings the laughs, good vibes and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend for a night out.
- Audrey (10/5): Comfortable and friendly stay - I've stayed here before so did not hesitate to book again. Very convenient location for motorway and station and easy access to North Wales. Very comfortable and spacious room and everywhere spotless. Very quiet so had one of the best night's sleep for ages. Staff are very welcoming. Parking is good and generally feels safe. Will be returning! No real problems. Can't comment on food this time as eating with friends and family.

- Lant (9/5): Excellent value for money, with great staff and location, breakfast limited, I would stay again. - Location and parking was great, good size rooms with TV and tea and coffee, staff were so nice and nothing a bother Breakfast limited, would appreciate some protein with the breakfast, the Bar is closed on a Monday, this is due to lack of guests, however, there were guests there on the Monday I stayed, so the bar should have been open.
- Leanne Donaghey (4/5): - Stayed in hotel all night had music on till late couldn't hear tv Music on late
- Clemencia (7/5): good - the staff was very friendly and accommodating restaurant was closed no breakfast

- U6808WRstevenp (2/5): Shocking staff with no skills whatsoever - We went to this place for lunch because we had been here once before just before Christmas because my son was doing a run around the area, anyways because it was very early when we dropped our son off we decided to have breakfast at this establishment, and we did have an amazing breakfast that morning it was a polish woman who sat us down and served us etc she couldn't do enough for us that morning, well after the race my son was doing we decided to treat him to lunch there but obviously it was different staff with no customer skills in my opinion, again the food what we had was very good but just the awkwardness of the staff, snotty and again no customer skills, so the other day whilst we where up that way I suggested we go to here again rather than eat junk food or likewise, this was Sunday the 5th of April by the way anyways when we got inside we were met with a frosty young woman who couldn't be interested whatsoever when I said if there were any tables for lunch, she immediately replied no we're fully booked today and I looked around in amazement because there was lots of tables empty??? With only one or two families or couples eating at the time.
My point is why turn down paying customers even if you have bookings, we'd have probably been finished by the time any of the bookings come but that woman really needs to brush up on her dealing with the public.
- Sarah (10/5): Staff lovely - Nice decor
- STEPHEN (10/5): -
- John (8/5): - it was clean - decent room, the only things that concerned me was the lock to the room appeared to be 3 not 5 lever ie it didn't seem so secure breakfast was ok but a tad expensive .
- Charles (10/5): great - very clean welcoming staff polite nice
- Caudle (6/5): OK, but not great. - The location was good, the room size was OK. Very noisy, from bar music and people walking around upstairs in the night.
No breakfast available on Mondays how ridiculous is that for a hotel?
- Carol (8/5): - Good location. Nice hotel with good quality food on offer at reasonable prices. Staff were very good Our accommodation was in a "suite" in the rooms set alongside the main hotel building. Room very large and equally large bathroom. Views of the landscape gardens.. However the room was basic with a very poor quality mattress and pillows which led to very little sleep. An honest opinion we have to comment that the room we had should not be classed as a suite but perhaps a large double. We did make our comments known to the management and were taken on board. Despite this we would stay here again for the location.
- Paul (10/5): Perfect venue for a Black tie Ladies night - Fantastic staff and so friendly
Food at the function was great and the service from all the staff was great
The accommodation was great warm clean and just what you need after partying at the venue is to just go to your clean and tidy room so as you can have a night cap and then relax
Thank you to all the staff you were great Not being able to stay for more than one night as other commitments lead us away
- Diane (8/5): - Ideally located for visiting family and catching train into Liverpool. The suite was a lovely big room and spotless. We didn't have any issues. Parking did get busy but fortunately we always found a place.
- Heather (9/5): Short stay but would definitely go again - Beautifully clean and well presented The beds were not as comfortable as they could be but otherwise it was really lovely
- Googly2010 (8/5): Friendly hotel with excellent breakfasts and dinners - I have stayed at the Woodcote several times over a few years. For me the highlights are - superb breakfasts of a range and quality that is surprising; very good evening meals cooked to a high standard; warm and friendly bar/restaurant with lovely staff; beautiful garden for summer eating and drinking. I agree with a previous reviewer that the rooms tend to be a bit soulless - maybe a few nice pictures would help. But the prices are keen and the hotel is very handily placed just off the M53.
- Rachael (8/5): - Reception was attended at all times, spacious room was clean and warm. Tea and coffee making facilities. Lighting was dim. No light over the mirror above vanity table.
- Dyson (8/5): Friendly staff who looked after us - Checked in early and bags were put in the room for us Nothing
- James (10/5): Very good value for money, deffo stay again - Very friendly staff, very clean and spacious rooms Nothing
- DonFerdi (4/5): Unprofessional and disappointing - The food was very nice but off a pre ordered menu (given weeks in advance) my child’s starter of garlic ciabatta without cheese came with cheese and when I asked the waitress for it to be replaced for what was ordered I was told there was no garlic ciabatta left!!
The venue was aware there were a number of children going to be there that evening and a couple of members of staff were extremely intimidating rude and called my child a derogatory name whilst they were playing. I found this very unprofessional and disappointing and I won’t be using this venue agsin
- Lewis (9/5): Stayed here while in Liverpool, and was fantastic for the price point! The bed is potentially the comfiest i’ve ever had - The bed was ridiculously comfy, clean toilet too. Staff were really friendly. Great breakfast too! Floorboards were very creaky.
- karen (9/5): Location , comfort and clean friendly hotel - Excellent nightly rate, clean , comfortable, staff very helpful . Was here for a party being held in hotel Nothing at all
- Jill (9/5): Pleasant stay we will return in the future - Our first time staying here it was extremely clean and comfortable. As we just needed a base as we have family nearby we didnt experience the breakfast or dinner so cannot comment on the food. The staff were friendly and helpful We opted for a twin bedded room but next time I would probably have a double as they were slightly on the small side
- Jayne (9/5): -
- Clare (6/5): - Room was fine There was a loud party going on in the pub which we weren’t told about when booking
- Andrew (9/5): Pleasant stay - Rooms were clean and pleasant. Only negatives were the light right outside my window but they had curtains, so not really an issue, and the shower was fiddly.
- Daniel (8/5): -
- llewellyn (8/5): Brilliant - Very nice and clean nice staff and friendly N/A
- Debbie (10/5): Great pretty hotel, food food, friendly staff and excellent show and entertainment room. - The room was spotless and the bed very comfy.
Breakfast was available however i had to leave early but was still offered a coffee whilst I waited for my taxi. No improvements need to be made.
- Helen (10/5): -
- Jon (10/5): - The suite was big, well furnished and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and the food was an absolutely delicious. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in the area. Nothing
- Sinead (10/5): -
- Barclay (7/5): -
- Susan (6/5): Disappointing due to lack of facilities - The rooms were clean and tidy and staff were polite and considerate The restaurant closed at 5pm so unable to get a meal and they don’t offer breakfast on a Monday
- gloria (10/5): Lovely stay - Beautiful gardens lovely hotel staff went that extra mile Beautiful room but would have liked a mirror at the table to do my makeup. Also a couple of prints on the walls would stop it looking so bare and a little more shower gel
- Lisa (10/5): -
- Lorraine (9/5): Overall very nice hotel, beware breakfast has hidden extras - The staff were exceptional, all very lovely.
Nice cozy warm room #10.
Lovely venue room and outside space is beautiful.
We were there for the drag night (Sadie B) which was a fabulous evening with great friends. Noisy people plodding around in upstairs room (I just hate that when they aren’t considerate)
Bit pricey for 1 night and didn’t include breakfast and if you did purchase breakfast (which I did) which cost £9.95 it didn’t include tea or coffee or juice etc which was a bit odd and added an extra £3.50 to the bill - why not make it a straight £10 (or round things up) and include the above which would make it easier for the staff too.
- Dominique (9/5): -
- Helen (10/5): Perfect - Brilliant place loved everything staff hotel food atmosphere just perfect thanks
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): excellent - friendly staff nothing
- Ben (7/5): Comfortable one night stay - Friendly staff on arrival room was clean and comfortable and the hotel was quiet overnight. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant are closed on a Monday which we didn’t realise until after making the booking so we went out for food plenty of places locally when we returned the car park which had been empty was full to capacity making parking an issue I guess the building is used for some other function on a Monday evening.
- Susan (8/5): - Bathroom Clean
Shower was hot
Bed comftable Pillows to soft
No bar after 5pm
- Z4219AHkathrynw (2/5): Freezing cold room, snotty staff on desk!!! - I'd been having issues with my boiler not working so decided to stay in a nice warm hotel for the evening. Booked the Woodcote and arrived there around 4.30pm. I was given a room in a sort of annex at the back but the TV didn't work. So I was offered another room and that TV only had a few channels because it was using the same aerial. So I said I'd just go home because I was solo and all I had was the TV for company and the annex wasn't very warm anyway. The woman on the desk said she'd get me a room in the main building and took me to it and it was like an ice box in there. She put the radiators on and said they'd heat up in 10 minutes. I sat with my big coat on in this freezing cold room and after an hour the radiators were still stone cold. So I told the woman I was this cold at home with a broken boiler and she was very snotty, saying I won't get a refund if I left and to speak to management the next day. I left at 7pm freezing cold to my bones. I did ring to speak to management the next day but got the same woman who was again very snotty. Theyve refused to refund me my £58 when I didn't even stay there and the woman was very nasty and abrupt. I'd avoid this place like the plague if you're reading this.
- Elaine (5/5): Noisy. - Clean as always. I stay here fairly frequently to visit family. On this occasion I was staying on the top floor as a solo traveller. Prior to my stay, I was not informed that there would be a party on the ground floor until midnight. The bass was incredibly loud all evening. I came down stairs twice to find an employee to enquire about a possible room transfer and there was no one about. Understandably, I was not prepared to walk into someone’s party to complain.
I phoned the out of hours number too but got an answer machine.
When I complained in the morning, an apology was given and the suggestion I should have come downstairs? That was it. Customers service has really fallen short on this visit.
- Harvey (6/5): - Bed was very comfortable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I was unaware it fronted on to a noisy road. Wifi was unavailable in the room. OK in dining area.
- Jennifer (7/5): great for 1 or a 2 night stay, value for money - the staff could not do enough, extremely helpful, room was comfortable enough, including the bed, but springs a bit noisy, both dinner menu was great & dinner was executed perfectly. A little disappointed with the breakfast, full English not up to expectations did give feedback to the chef, although the menu itself has plenty of choice & the continental aspect was very good. A shame there was no lounge area or separate bar to enjoy prior & post meal.
- Gerwyn (9/5): Good value for money and generally met our needs, would definitely use the venue again. - Room layout and location within the hotel.
Breakfast.
Parking facility. Some of the plug points could be updated with phone charging facility.
Room was a bit cold.
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Liz (10/5): Fabulous! - Friendly staff, huge room beautifully decorated and bathroom was spotlessly clean and very modern. Breakfast was also tasty. Nothing - it was perfect!
- Victoria (8/5): Very nice, pleasant and good value, thank you. - . .
- Gareth (10/5): -
- J2048LIsusanb (10/5): lovely visit - just had a lovely sunday lunch piping hot meat roast pots. 3 veg giant yorkie and stuffing, lamb was to die for very pleasant staff will return soon
- Jamie (10/5): -
- janet (8/5): lovely stay. really nice room. lovely big breakfast. friendly staff. - staff are lovely. nothing too much trouble.
- Austėja (9/5): - Great little place when you need to be close to these parts of Chester Shower has a strange operating system.
- Lin Dodgson (9/5): -
- Cindy (8/5): Great comfortable accommodation in a good location for transport links. - An easy walk from the station (not advisable after dark as the pavement is narrow and the road dark)
Friendly staff. Cosy quiet well equipt room (room 12) large single bed. Hard to get a taxi
- Steven (7/5): Friendly, good value hotel. Would use again if in the area. - Friendly staff. Basic but comfortable room. Ample parking. Cooked breakfast was not cooked to order and tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for a while before serving.
- michael (7/5): -
- Peter (8/5): -
- Liz (8/5): - Lovely staff, lovely food, reasonable prices and great location for Cheshire Oaks. Room was 2 steep flights up and there wasn't a lift.
- Roger (9/5): -
- TraceyH4167 (10/5): Good, well placed hotel - We stayed here for two nights, the main attraction for us was the proximity to Cheshire Oaks, which was a 10 minute drive away.
We booked a suite which was very pleasant, it was a large and spacious room, if a little soulless if I'm honest. But it was very well appointed and spotlessly clean.
All of the staff we encountered were very warm and friendly, from the lady on reception who checked us in, to the ladies in the restaurant who served us breakfast, to the cleaning staff who were so efficient and the lady on reception who checked us out. There is also a large car park here, another plus point.
You are certainly assured of a warm welcome and a comfortable, pleasant stay here.
- Martin (9/5): I would stay again .. No issues - The room was very clean and Tidy, bed comfortable and breakfast very good No TV Single in the room ... but WiFi very good
- Susanna (7/5): -
- Anthony (9/5): Very lovely accommodation, but bar and food facilities close very early - Clean, comfortable, good size room with lovely bathroom. For a hotel, the bar closed very early - 9.30pm on a Friday night
- Mark (8/5): Clean, comfortable, affordable, excellent breakfast - The breakfast in this hotel is the best I've had in any hotel in the UK.
The bed was clean & comfortable.
- Carl (10/5): - Easy access to get to 9 min walk to train for Liverpool centre 👍 Great veiw staff amazing
- Hazel (9/5): - Convenient location, fantastic breakfast, staff very helpful.
- Lee (8/5): Nice hotel, good food & friendly staff - Food was very good quality I booked with Booking.com & my colleague booked direct. He paid less, had breakfast included in the price and had a superior room. So this isn’t a criticism of the the hotel, just the system.
- raymond (6/5): We were moved from our first room because we couldn’t stay in it. So we sort accommodation elsewhere for the first night - Dated rooms
- Monique (8/5): -
- Adnan (8/5): -
- Danielle (10/5): Best stay for coeliac in a while. - The property was clean and tidy, the staff were polite and not afraid to help. Nothing. It was great.
- Robert (9/5): -
- Samantha (8/5): - Stayed one night on business. Check in was efficient, the room was clean and there was a desk so I could get some work done.
Downsides are that if you are downstairs and the person above paces the floor in the night, the creaky floors keep you awake. Also the duvet was way too thick and hot. If on a motorbike, there is nowhere to chain it up, but they do have cameras in the car park.
The bed was comfortable which is the main thing for me and it is close to the motorway so access is easy.
- Linsey (8/5): Overall very happy with the hotel. - Staff. Excellent service, friendly and welcoming.
The service in the restaurant was excellent both in the evening when we were served by Charlotte who was new to the job and also at breakfast. Reception staff were very friendly. The room was a little basic I.e. the dressing table/work top rather small, but happy with cleanliness . This isn’t a criticism merely an observation.
The mattress was rather uncomfortable for my liking, very soft/worn on one side.
- manxseasider (8/5): Very pleasant Sunday lunch - Visited with family, 4 adults and 1 child. All the adults ordered the roast (myself the nut roast, others beef). All seemed happy, veg included carrot & turnip mash, broccoli and beans as well as the roast potatoes and large Yorkshire puddings.
My nut roast was very tasty, moister than the usual offering at carveries and livened up with cranberries.
Would go again if visiting family in the region. However, be aware that a service charge is included in the bill - if I had been vigilant enough to realise this I may not have felt it necessary to provide the further £10 tip.
- Llinos (8/5): - Staff were all so helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
