- Mobile288792 (6/5): Mixed experience - It’s a pretty hotel- also old. So the rooms hear noises. There was a 10 year old overnight birthday party right above our heads- we could hear very loud stomping- we went up and told them to stop at 1:00 am. Then again at 4:30 am. There is no one at the front desk to help- and no one had told us who to call if help is needed. We were hosting our son’s baby shower the next day. So just a bummer for sure- we were exhausted from lack of sleep- and they did nothing to compensate us. Our biggest beef is that if there is no one at front desk, and it’s that old and not sound proof- don’t put a 10’year old overnight birthday party above someone else!

Walkable dining options, the candy closet, the ice cream fridge and extended breakfast hours (7-11) all created more of a visit feel than a standard stay.

- 844pattis (10/5): The George is simply the Best! - Erika and Lily made our less than 24 hours in Montclair super memorable - they helped me organize champagne, greeted us with wine, and OMG the Candy Closet ?!?!?! Breakfast was a dream and we stayed in one of the Family Rooms which was perfect for the three of us - with great space to rest from a long flight, hang out, and get ourselves ready for a fun time in Montclair. The building and accommodation are first class and we are counting the days till we return again. So inspired by the surroundings and service...THANK YOU!

We used to live in Bloomfield NJ but now we live in Southern California, and I had to get a place for a work trip. We stayed here one night in “Steve” and one night later we came back and stayed in “Duke,” which was our favorite of the two. Super clean, upscale, and the free wine at 5pm was a nice treat. Parking was easy, and we highly recommend this spot.

Unfortunately, this trip wasn't the same. Our bathroom smelled wet and as if it wasn't cleaned properly. Some of the towels had a brown stain and a peculiar smell.

- travelerbyproxy (4/5): If only there were other options…. - It’s like staying at your friend’s house. And your friend doesn’t like you all that well. First, this is not a hotel. If it were branded as an inn, it would be lovely. You ring a bell to be let in; you find your own room and your own way around; there is no on-site staff after hours; every room has its quirks. All might be fine. Except that you’re paying $550 a night to stay in someone’s musty basement where you have to change the dehumidifier every few hours. You weren’t told of this before or during check-in. When you ask if anything else can be done about the moisture issue (it STINKS!), the desk person is very clearly annoyed and says, I KNOW it’s a problem. Like, You’re the one who wants to stay here, so deal with it! After changing rooms - it takes hours to find out if it is even possible to change rooms - you find yourself in the finished attic. Super cute, just as the first floor and room were. But there’s nothing covering a decent sized window in the bedroom, and all the street light comes in at night. The air conditioning in the bedroom works only when you turn it on, meaning that once it runs through a cycle, the unit shuts off. You have to get up multiple times during the night (or anytime you wake up covered in sweat), and turn the air unit back on if you want it to run. The shower drips very loudly and you are thrilled that you brought your earplugs so you can muffle that sound out and get a little shut eye. Sadly, I could go on, but there are some positives. At least one of the staff members is nice and friendly. I say ‘at least one’ because I’m sure there must be another? The hotel is very dog friendly, which is a plus if you have or love dogs. The architecture and visual aspects are really nice. Both rooms were pretty clean, except for the random sock left on the floor next to the dresser (not underneath it, mind you, but next to it), a previously used paper container for the room key found under the chair, and the open safety pin lying on the carpet in the middle of the room. At this point, I’m too afraid to complain or say something, and I just can’t wait to get out of here.

The check in was quick and easy, my teenager LOVED the candy closet on the first floor, and our room was blessedly cool and comfortable. When we had an issue with the television, the staff member instantly arrived and resolved the issue. While we didn't take advantage of the offered breakfast, we will be sure to do so next time.

It’s all in the details - lovely lobby entrance with grand staircase, free access to a nostalgic snack closet and ice cream, wine hour, and the most delicious breakfast that was all included in our stay. All this plus the room itself is tastefully decorated and spacious (we stayed in the Isaac). I can’t wait to come back soon when I want to feel like I’m not in NJ anymore. Location also can’t be beat - somehow the George is tucked away in the most quiet and quaint part of town, while still being walkable to many shops and restaurants.

- IsThisForRealorDream (10/5): Holiday time visit see family - A beautiful boutique inn close to Montclair’s downtown shops and restaurants. We were visiting family in the area for the holidays. The property has undergone a massive restoration, beautifully done. Very comfortable with nice amenities. Nice beds and bedding. Breakfast was buffet, self serve but nicely displayed with quality items such as freshly sliced prosciutto and cheeses, artisan breads abs pastries. Although it was very nice, some type of protein eggs / meats (beyond hard boiled eggs) would be nice. The breakfast staff was nice, but there were several times where coffee and mugs were depleted… Overall a very nice stay and we will plan to stay here again when in the area. Areas for improvement: add glass doors to showers as the shower curtains were not fresh (a bit funky to be honest); time to replace towels as they were worn and frayed. The front desk staff was terrific! Thank you

A few small kinks to be worked out: no hooks for robes or towels in bathroom; shallow, slow-draining sink; no bedside power plugs. But clean, nice, quiet - definitely top pick in Montclair.

The morning breakfast is top notch……a continental style buffet on steroids with only top quality pastries, vut fruit, yogurt and granola bar, cured meats and cheese etc. Highly recommend. Will be back.

Lilly from the front desk was enigmatic — she became my best friend on my first trip I’ve ever taken solo. She is such an asset — willing to go above and beyond! Breakfast was great and the property is gorgeous. I will be back if I’m ever in Montclair again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Pretty average hotel, nothing fancy. When you consider the price, thats pretty disappointing. We booked this hotel because we were going on vacation and wanted something a little better than the usual hotels we’ve stayed at and this was not that. It was a more expensive price tag for a usual hotel experience. Also we found the decor choice of having celebrity photos literally everywhere in our room, a bit off-putting. Breakfast was also put out late several times during our stay, we’d go down for breakfast (at least 10 minutes after the time they said breakfast would be, mind you) and only half would be out. The staff was friendly though which we appreciated.

The hotel is located in a residential corner of Montclair, easy walking distance to the Montclair Art Museum, Van Vleck Gardens, and restaurants. The decor is eclectic but cohesive and charming. We had a spacious corner room that was very comfortable and inviting. The breakfast offerings are excellent. The sitting room invites lingering with its gas fireplace, comfortable seating, and games. We are likely to return in future.

- Discover59043450363 (6/5): Lovely touches, but over-priced IMO - This is a lovely boutique hotel with very trendy decor and a wonderful staff. I stayed one night for a solo trip as a staycation. There were a lot of nice touches, like a closet full of candy that was complimentary in the library, nightly wine and cocktails, again complimentary, and a nice breakfast in the morning that was included in the price. I stayed in a standard queen room called the Jen for $405 (tax included). I was very underwhelmed for the price point. Even with such great staff and those nice touches I mentioned above. The room was rather small, there were some stains on the carpet, it felt warm and humid when I walked in, it looked out at the parking lot, and just overall, it wasn’t what I would expect for that price point. The gym was OK. They had two machines, I think one was an elliptical and another one was a treadmill. Then they had some weights and a floor mat. There was really only enough room for 2 to 3 people at the most. They had early check-in and late check-out upon request day of, which was great. And it’s walking distance to the beautiful Van Vleck Garden and the Montclair Museum. So all in all, it was a nice experience, and I enjoyed myself. I just wouldn’t stay again unless I could find a room there for half that price, or if they offered a much better room at that price point.

With design elements from Restoration Hardware to a kitschy cool snap of Nancy Sinatra adorns the space above the bed and other famous Nancys to the left of the bed. The name of my groovy digs? The Nancy room of course. I love this place and will definitely stay there again.
