- Alasdair (9/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel, very kind and helpful staff. Excellent value for money. Ski bus stop right outside. Cosy bar

- Laura (9/5): Brilliant spot in Châtel! - Great location, clean comfy rooms with wonderful views! Nothing, everything was lovely!
- Philippe (9/5): Très bon séjour et excellent accueil - Patrons très sympas, bon petit dej et bon emplacement pour le ski
- Dinara (8/5): - The location is great, quite close to the ski lift, shops and restaurants. The room is spacious and cozy. The beds are comfortable. Shower worked without any problems. The hosts are friendly and helping.
Overall a really nice stay for its price and distance to the key areas. Breakfast was a bit poor for 15 euro.
The bathroom could be a little cleaner.
It's not the hotel's fault, but it's noisy in the morning and evening as other guests slam the doors every minute which is very loud and quite irritating. It's better to have earplugs with you if you're sensitive to noise and wish to sleep after skiing.

- Lourens (9/5): A very charming and centrally located hotel in Châtel that I would recommend to anyone keen on getting away for a few da - A very typical alpine hotel with all the associated charm. The location is central and perfect access to both the town and the main ski lift (cabin). A few hidden charges not covered in the description. Ski lockers need to be hired separately, and while it’s not a big charge, we were only made aware at checkout with an extra bill.

- Jamie (10/5): great value hotel which ticks all the boxes! - the room was fantastic, clean, quiet, warm and the bed was really comfortable. great views too.
The staff were always friendly and happy to help.
the location was fine for me, approx 5-10 mins walk to the gondola or the free shuttle bus stops right outside the hotel. the hotel is also right next door to an amazing deli (Le P’tite Marche) which had some amazing local produce.
the hotel bar area was lovely, cosy and a homely feel.
The ski storage facilities were really good and secure. absolutely nothing
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (9/5): Lovely B and B in an awesome location for skiing in Portes du soleil - The owners were lovely - the wellness area was a really nice bonus
- Guillaume (10/5): Exceptional - it was a very great time. we defently come back if it was an extra shelf in the bathroom for our stuff
- Yehuda (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean & friendly
- Rulande (8/5): A lovely stay in Chatel - Beautiful family run hotel with friendly atmosphere and stunning views from the terrace where you can enjoy a coffee or aperitif.
Excellent compact Hammam and Sauna.
Very comfortable beds. I recommend paying the premium for the mountain view facing rooms. Due to street noise, particularly when it's raining, you can't really open the windows at night for fresh air.
The jacuzzi felt over-chlorinated impacting my eyes and making it a less pleasant, although I am sure very safe, experience.
- Ajf (8/5): Very good -
- Maureen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gillian (8/5): Most enjoyable - Great location and the owners were very lovely . The breakfast was very limited for 14€

- Remo (8/5): Very good -
- Michal (8/5): Very nice but can be better - Great service, the manager was very accommodating and friendly
The location is great
All the staff was very welcoming However the bed sheets were not changed when we asked for the room to be cleaned
I had a little blood stain that was still there after they cleaned the room
- Martian (8/5): Very good - Clean, a lot of parking spots, jacuzzi and also the view was amazing. Pretty small room, no fridge in the room, the internet was average.
- David (10/5): We were here for only one night but very impressed with the hotel. Great location and super friendly family run hotel. - Lovely family run hotel. Super clean, friendly and very helpful
- Anonymous (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent Nothing everything was parfect
- Mohammad (8/5): It was a pleasant stay - I will stay there again. - The breakfast selection was good with excellent Jam. There was no cooked breakfast -
If you have the mountain view rooms then the view is spectacular and worth the extra.
Location is very central to Chatel with good carparking The WC is old and appears not to be very clean.
The WC could do with a more powerful vent
- Tiffany (10/5): would stay here again, great location! - close to the ski hills. available breakfast was convient. ski lockers also made it nice to store equipment overnight. hot tub wasn’t hot. breakfast started at 8am, 30 minutes earlier would be better for early activities starting at 9am
- Debbie (10/5): A perfect break away, loved every minute. - Just home from 5 days staying at Hotel Belalp. We absolutely loved this hotel, perfect location, amazing view from our balcony, rooms are very clean and comfortable. We had breakfast each morning downstairs which was very handy before we hit the slopes. Matthew and his family are lovely hosts and were extremely helpful as it was our first time in Chatel. Would highly recommend staying here and look forward to our return visit. everything was perfect
- Philippe (9/5): Superb -
- Daniil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tonyquattro (8/5): Great hotel. - Stayed here a few times now. Great location. Great views from the Valley View Rooms, and does what it needs to do. In these places you never get mega luxury unless you’re paying thousands.
Best hotel in the area for the money.
Rooms: Basic and smallish, clean.
Facilities: Excellent. Bar, hot tube(inside), steam room, sauna. Boot room
Location: The best, bar 30m, super market 40m. But the best part....bus stop to ski lifts outside the front door!!
Value: Good
Breakfast: Good variety for continental
We book it every year for a reason, don’t hesitate.
- CRJ43 (8/5): Family ski trip - Very friendly staff and family feel hotel, comfortable beds and a good continental breakfast with fantastic views. The spa room was very relaxing after a long day on the slopes and it was close to the centre of town.
- Q893YYjamesr (8/5): Xmas/New Year at Hotel Belalp, Châtel - Hotel Belalp is located a short walk up the hill from the town centre, towards Vonne. The shuttle bus stop is outside the hotel, making it very easy to get to the chairlifts at Vonne or the Super Châtel lift in the village, if you don’t want to do the 5 minute walk. From the outside, the hotel is an attractive, chalet style building, with good private parking area to the rear. The hotel is run by a very nice, extremely hard working family, of three generations. Immediate impressions were how clean the hotel was. In the basement is an excellent heated boot room with ski lockers, and access out of the hotel. Also on this floor is the spa area, with a very nice jacuzzi/sauna/steam room facility, great after a days skiing. On the ground floor is the reception area, a pleasant bar and comfortable seating area around the fire and the restaurant dining room. We had taken the half board option, so ate breakfast and evening meal here. The dining room is in a recently added part of the hotel and has the most incredible panoramic glass windows around the whole room, offering spectacular views of the village and surrounding mountains. Breakfast is continental style buffet, and despite being the same every day, was extremely good, with a wide choice on offer, great coffee and fruit juices, a great way to start the day. The evening meal was chosen from a choice of two options the evening before. The family speak very little English, and as a non French speaking family, our menu selection was something of a gamble, however by chance or good fortune we were never really disappointed. Fair to say the food was sometimes prepared in a way that we weren’t expecting, but there was always plenty of it, an excellent cheese board and lovely deserts. The wine selection is also very good and priced competitively. The bedroom we booked was on the back of the hotel, with balcony overlooking the valley below, nice to have but possibly something more useful on a summer holiday. The rooms are a bit on the small side, but absolutely adequate. The beds are comfortable, plenty of storage area, TV etc. The shower room is also small but practical, warm and supplied with fresh towels daily. Wi-fi in the hotel is a bit hit and miss which may or may not be an issue for some people. The hotel has a lift to all floors.
So in summary, Hotel Belalp is very well located, it is very clean, run by a very friendly family. It is well appointed with everything you could need for an action packed skiing holiday, offers excellent food and comfortable rooms and any negatives would really just be nit picking. If snow conditions are good, a holiday staying at Hotel Belalp won’t disappoint.
- R6149WWstephenw (10/5): Christmas at the Belalp😁 - The Belalp is a lovely cosy little hotel with super friendly staff. Thanks to Cedric and the other staff our Christmas at the Belalp was great. The hotel may be small but that just adds to the feeling of cosyness that this hotel is so great for. The lounge/reception area is quirky and comfy and the breakfast and dinner are super. Over all I would highly recommend a stay in the Belalp especially over Christmas or New year as that's when the balcony view is perfect to enjoy the fireworks 😊
Thanks to the staff who made our Christmas so wonderful!
- psraine (10/5): Friendly family run hotel - Wonderfully maintained with friendly staff. Good location and facilities. Road side rooms are slightly noisy when the snow ploughs are out! Excellent food if you have booked meals with the room. Excellent bar and lounge area.
- H9026HZstephenl (10/5): Wonderfully warm and welcoming - I have just returned from a long weekend in Chatel staying at the wonderful Belalp Hotel. This was my third visit in 5 years and the hospitable Trincaz family continue to offer a very warm welcome.
Our double room on the second floor offered fantastic valley views and although not huge had all we needed for a comfortable stay – a very comfortable double bed and a powerful shower; just what’s needed after a long day skiing. Add to that a balcony and TV and there was little left to wish for.
Our party of four booked on a half board basis and all of us considered it to be good value for money. An ample breakfast of cold meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs, bread, pastries, fruit and yoghurt made for a good start to the day. Madame Trincaz will also prepare a soft boiled egg if requested.
The 4 course evening meals were delicious and varied and included fish, fondue, raclette and pot-au-feu. With tasty starters and puddings plus a decent cheese selection it would be impossible to go hungry.
The wine list is also very reasonably priced.
The hotel location offers very good access to the slopes and the village amenities. The Super Chatel gondola is only a short walk away and for those without a car there are buses to shuttle snow seekers to other lift systems.
Hospitality was also extended on our check-out day. As we weren’t flying until 9.30pm we were able to have the day on the slopes whilst storing our baggage in a secure room. We were also offered the use of the Spa facilities for a shower and change prior to leaving.
I highly recommend the Belalp and will certainly be returning.
As a footnote to skiers/boarders – if you need to hire equipment look no further than Richard Sports. Turn left out of the hotel front door and it is at the bottom of the road just before the junction. Claude and his team will provide a great service, expert advice, quality kit and all at very reasonable prices. When they say “bring it back if you have any issues” they really mean it.
- ilovehippopotamus (8/5): Good hotel, great food and a decent location - We stayed here for a weeks skiing.
The hotel is a nice family run hotel which has not a huge amount of rooms that its a good size to ensure the food is good and service attentive.
We stayed half board via booking.com.
Breakfast - pastries, breads, cheese, ham, yoghurt, fruit, cereal and jams / nutella was a good start to the day. There are no hot options.
Dinner - really very good dinner at least 3 courses, sometimes cheese is a 4th course. The portions are good but not so huge you feel you are over eating (easy to do when skiing). worth going half board for. Wine was no too expensive (it is not included in half board) around €13 a bottle.
We had a very early flight back from Geneva, breakfast is only between 8 and 9:30 and there was no offer or help for some pack up for the early start which was a little disappointing.
Location - suggest you wait for the bus (on the same side as the hotel) and take it to Vonnes with your skis and it is two lifts here to either super chatel or into La Linga. This is much easier than the 300m walk into town and queuing for the gondola.
For the evening this hotel is well positioned a short walk to town (less than 5 minutes even in snow).
Nazca bar is just down the road into Chatel and probably the best bar for just a drink and music. Avalanche seems to have a live band a couple of times a week and also nice to go to.
WiFi - the WiFi here is very poor, it will disconnect you several times a day and is incredibly slow (with an annoying relogging in) so I wouldn't bank on good wifi here.
- Tonyquattro (8/5): Good hotel, great location! - I've just got back from skiing Chatel and stayed here for 4 nights.
Room:
We had a single room, a double and a triple. Firstly the single room, was ridiculously small. The double was small but adequate. The triple was an ok size and was probably the best of the three. All the bathrooms were a good size, with shampoos and fresh towels every day. Also our beds were changed and made ever day. Felt very comfortable.
Food:
We only had breakfast....€10 per day. Was pretty decent....pastries, crosionts, breads, jams, fruit, ham and cheese, yogurts and fruit juice. Nothing special but worth doing for €10
Location:
This is the best part of the hotel. In Chatel you pretty much have to get a 4min bus journey to the lifts. However the bus stop is literally outside the hotel, so no messing around carrying your skis any where. Also it's in the village, only 80m from first bar, which is probably one of the best.
Village:
It's great here, quite lively, huge region to ski, only 1h40 from Geneva.
Stay here again:
100%!!!!
- simplyNormz (10/5): Lovely Family Hotel - We stayed in this lovely family hotel this summer and we have a fab time. The location is very good, close to shops and restaurants. The room is clean and we had a stunning view of the valley from our balcony. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- 17christosd (10/5): Skiing Portes Du Soleil @ Chatel - A warm family traditional Hotel at a great location in the beautiful Chatel Village maybe the best base location-village all over Portes Du Soleil. The hotel room was small but traditional and clean. The food included in HB price was excellent and service was good and the Restaurant Are was totally New beautiful with superb view to the mountains.
Also spa area was small but New and clean with great views to the valley. In general the hotel is Recomended because price and quality was totally worth it.

- LellaP597 (8/5): Comfortable family hotel with good restaurant - This family hotel is nothing stylish but very clean and comfortable. The rooms are quite small but they have all you need and also the TV. The bathroom of ours was small and not too comfortable but ok for two nights.
Downstairs they have renovated a nice area with couches and a beautiful stone oven warming the room. The views are beautiful as in the restaurant where the big glass windows make you feel outside even if inside. Interesting and cheap the daily menu, more intriguing but still at very good prices A la Carte and many typical cheese dishes from the area.
We had perfectly cooked fresh scallops on a crunchy mixed salad and a huge main with grilled prawns and fish filler with a wonderful courgette flan, red rice and vegetables that was enough for two! Very good the breakfast too with freshly baked petit pain au chocolat ,cheeses and hams, jams and much more.
- rufax12 (10/5): Everything you need for a ski holiday - We made a last minute booking into the Hotel Belalp for a ski holiday in February 2014. We were delighted with our stay. For 130 euros a night we got a top floor room with a view of the valley beneath, a balcony and a modern and clean en-suite. The restaurant has fantastic views of the valley which allows you to sit and enjoy the sun creeping over the mountains at breakfast time. The main Super Chatel gondola lift is a ten minute walk downhill from the hotel, a handy ski locker is provided. Stand out points; the shower was excellent, it can blast your skin off if you are not careful. The turbo-charged towel rail will heat up to a furnace-like temperature and remain hot for several hours, anything you choose to dry on this at 7pm will be dry by bedtime. The staff are friendly, we always received a warm smile from the female owner, and they were able to accommodate my desire of a chilled bottle of champagne on arrival from just an emailed request.
I don't really have any negatives, yes the rooms are small but perfectly equipped. Noise does travel through the walls from other rooms but this is only a problem when other guests access their wardrobes or chest of drawers. We only managed to get two of the seats firing in the hot tub, perhaps look out for a manual from http://www.4seasonsspa.com. Finally it can be difficult to control the heating in the room as the radiators whilst brilliant are old, you may need to balance the heat with the door slightly open to the cold - but just watch for the 7am church bells in the town centre, they'll get you!
Chatel itself is a delightful little resort, very French and a good selection of restaurants, use TripAdvisor for the best ones. We used Twinner Marc Mésière for our ski hire, though not the cheapest this is very close to the hotel and the service is excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful.
- 622judyf (10/5): Review of stay at Hotel Belalp - My husband and I stayed at this hotel after a long flight from the US to Geneva. We were planning to cycle through the French Alps and were going to meet up with other riders and start riding from Chatel. The hotel was wonderful. The physical facility is very nice and the location was perfect. The food both at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The hotel is run by a family. They couldn't have been nicer in terms of making sure that we had everything we needed or wanted. We subsequently relocated to Hotel Macchi with the other riders. The physical facility was nicer there, but the staff was not nearly as attentive, nor was the food as good------for like double the price. I would highly recommend the Hotel Belalp.
- Stella_bella87 (10/5): Excellent value with spa facilities - Stayed here for 3 nights. Very good value for money. Enjpyed the spa area bit would have been good to have had some more info on how to work the hottub. Breakfast is basic but nice woth stunning views aswell as the views from the room. The room is quite small but very nicely decorated and very clean!
Loada of resturants in chatel with plenty of things to do in the surrounding areas. All in all I would definitely recommendthe hotel and would love to come here in the winter.
- AlexanderIJohnson (8/5): A walk from town center and bus trip from the lifts - Clean and cosy, a family run hotel that's a short walk from the center of town and shuttle bus trip from the lifts. The parking is accessed by a steep slope that can be difficult for unadapted vehicles (even with snow tires). I was a little surprised at how small the rooms and bathroom were and could hear all that was going on next door, especially in the bathroom. The beds were terrible; amazingly small, way too soft and the mattress kept slipping off the base. Stayed on half board with excellent meals in a restaurant with a lovely view. The sauna, hammam and jacuzzi are new and quite alright, but with very limited opening hours. The staff were very nice and more than helpful.
- arie_aertsen (8/5): A very nice hotel - It is hard to imagine guests not having a pleasant stay in this charming hotel with its happy, friendly and helpful staff. Ideally situated some 200 meters from the centre of the equally charming and friendly town of Châtel, it offers a beautiful view of the mountains and valley below. Lobby and restaurant areas have been modernized and a very nice wellness area (with great Jacuzzi and mountain view;) has been added. Our room was small but comfortable and the bathroom too had been modernized, with a great shower/bath. If possible, book a corner room at the back of the hotel: quieter and extra light/view. All rooms at the back have a balcony or terrace facing West. Excellent breakfast and dinner (half board is possible) with normal prices for drinks. Parking facilities directly in front and back of hotel, superb (free!) Wi-Fi connection. You can walk to the Super Châtel ski lift, but a 7 minute ride (car or bus) to the far end of the valley (Pré la Joux) offers quicker access to the Portes du Soleil, with very easy slopes to the parking area at the end of the day. You definitely need to bring snow chains if you’re driving to/from Châtel in snowy conditions.
Small minuses: our mattress had definitely seen better days and swim suits are mandatory in the wellness area
- DariusS_11 (8/5): Would have been surprised if not for good reviews - I stayed in this hotel for a skiing weekend. We have booked it based on good reviews. Overall, very satisfied. Staff very polite and helpful. Rooms small and basic, but clean and adequate. Nice breakfast in the morning with splendid views of the mountains. After a long day on pistes, it was great to relax in wet and dry saunas and the hot tub, which were all very clean and looked like new. There is one ski lift within an easy walking distance but much better to take a shuttle bus to more serious slopes (about 15 min bus ride).
