- McNaughton (10/5): -
- Kate (8/5): - A great new property on a wine estate. Very comfortable rooms and bathrooms all super clean and well done up. Lovely views. We stayed on a Monday so sadly the winery was not open - another day would be better if your plan is to taste the wine. Owners brisk but polite. Very well situated between Aldinga and Mclaren Vale.
- Dunstan (9/5): - Great location, lovely setting. Accommodation was very comfortable, fit out beautiful. can;t complain
- Paola (9/5): Stunning property - Beautiful property in a beautiful location
- Neil (7/5): Quirky place that offers excellent rooms but could do motte to make it a memorable experience - Nice quirky property with excellent bedrooms. Dudley assisted with a restaurant recommendation and booking. Lovely view from the room. Nice extras within the room. Had everything you needed. The shower itself is lovely to look at but the pressure is abysmal with a very weak spray that made showering difficult. I think for the money and considering you are staying on a wine property, a welcome drink would have been nice. The soundproofing wasn’t great. It’s a couples retreat which is fair enough but the couple next door, were shall I say, really going for it and we got the full rendition! Difficult to get big bags down the stairs to the room. Also, not great impression that breakfast is not offered to Booking.com guests but is included if you book direct.
- monica (9/5): -
- Ed (9/5): -
- Kathy (10/5): - The view from the bathtub
- Stefan (10/5): Absolutely fantastic! - The owners were lovely and went out of their way to help us have a comfortable stay.
The property is beautiful with fantastic facilities- comfortable bed, and the bathtub- heaven!!
Accomodation was private, large open spaces and gorgeous views.
Perfect place to stay in McLaren Vale. N/a
- Stacey (8/5): Luxe private accom - Beautiful property and lovely ammenities. Loved the little touches like coffee, grit and cheese in the fridge. Was surprised at the 3pm check in and 10am check out.
Would have been nice to have robes.
- Becci (9/5): -
- Margery (9/5): -
- Sheldon (6/5): Nice enough place, but overpriced for what it was. - Great location. Picturesque. Large room. Private. Nowhere to sit in the rooms facing the windows / view. One sofa facing a blank wall. No fresh milk for tea / coffee. No robes to wear. Mattress was very soft. Shower dripped.
- Margo (6/5): Disappointing - I use booking.com for all my accommodation bookings and routinely provide a review where I stay.
Hotel California Road was a disappointing stay despite reading the positive reviews.
The off the grid concept within the structure of shipping containers made the hotel really interesting and appealing.
We booked 2 nights via booking.com paying $860.
Our friends who booked directly at exactly the same time paid $844 and this included their continental breakfast.
When we arrived it was made very clear to us that because we booked via booking.com, there was no breakfast. A breakfast option is not available on Booking.com
Our friends who booked direct were provided breakfast provisions which they considered average given the profile of the accommodation and cost.
In summary:-
No bathrobes.
No toilet brush and the toilet was not cleaned as part of the daily clean.
Management stated that they ‘don't provide toilet brushes in rooms as this isn't standard practice in hotels for hygiene reasons’.
Whilst the living/bedroom area was warm when the aircon was on, the bathroom was very cold.
Just two coffee pods per night + 2 x coffee/milk pods, which we considered unpleasant.
Of note, the bed was very comfortable and there were beautiful views of the vineyards.
*Daisy the dog was adorable. Please see above comments
- Spyridis (10/5): Friendly staff, beautiful vineyard accomodation with a very serene environment. Rooms were clean. - Very clean and peaceful location and rooms. N/A

Room was very private.

- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- andrejs (10/5): Brilliant - Fantastic accommodation, fantastic location and view. Very peaceful, great getaway.
- Ami (10/5): Beautiful - The Wine, the scenery and the Bath tub, so comfortable it was hard to return home.
- Samantha (8/5): Very good -
- Pawinee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Albert (10/5): What a place to stay. Great Staff, Great Rooms, Peace and Quiet to the absolute MAX and the Wine; WOW. - Amazing., Thanks to the great, friendly staff.
- Craig (10/5): Will recommend this hotel to family and friends - Hotel exceeding expectations There was nothing not to llike
- DAVID (10/5): AMAZING WINE COUNTRY STAY - This small hotel is a genius product developed by the couple who own Inkwell wines and live nearby. The rooms and hallways and cellar door are built out of shipping containers and a lot of effort went into making the accommodations truly 5 star. They are also strongly committed to being environmentaly conscious. The location is quiet and charming with amazing views. They are only 5 mins from the center of Mclaren Vale with plenty of restaurant options and stores. They are also only 10 mins away from Maslin beach , one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever visit. A terrific choice for visiting the nearby wine country 🎉🎉🎉
- Linda (7/5): Not value for money - The room was excellent and stylish with beautiful views over the vineyard This is not a hotel, more like an airbnb. No public areas and no reception after 5pm. Also, the room description boasts a Seaview which is incorrect.
Most vineyard accomodation especially those as expensive as this - $445 for one night- offer a free wine tasting and at least some breakfast provisions in the room. We were told that breakfast is provided for direct bookings but not provided for booking.com guests! How petty!
- caroline (6/5): - Place was ok checkin was a bit odd and dragged out
Was for our wedding anniversary and noted that in booking but there was no mention of that at all while checking
Was no milk in the fridge for teas or coffees
Shower head leaking badly
For the price a bit underwhelming
- Jack (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay. Extremely friendly and helpful staff - We did not stay for the breakfast but the location was really good. Close to so many wineries I wasn't able to find anything we didn't like about the place
- Fabre (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Great place to enjoy a getaway from all the hussel and bustle of city life. Loved it and highly recommended - We loved the serenity
The effort to get of the grid is to be commended
Our hosts were awesome
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kate (7/5): California Rd Hotel birthday celebrations - The rooms were fabulous! Always looking for something a little different/unique so this was great! Lovely view from the room and modern looking. The shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles were empty or blocked.
Showers were lovely but not ideal for washing hair as the water pressure was low.
Went to make ourselves a coffee with the provided coffee machine, but there was no milk in the fridge.
When we left, nobody was at the desk which wasn't an issue...we left our key in the box and walked to the carpark. A staff member walked right past us and didn't even acknowledge us. He could see we were leaving. I would've expected a "hello" at minimum. Or even better you'd think he'd say "thanks for coming/visiting" or "did you enjoy your stay?". But not a word so that was disappointing.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kennedy (8/5): good but could be improved. - very nice room, bathroom, and bed. great view from private deck over the vineyards there was a constant banging all night long coming from the roof which meant we weren’t able to get a good sleep. also tree branch scraping on the window outside.
no staff on site so weren’t able to meet our request for breakfast.
could have been more snacks or a bottle of wine provided for the price.
- SIMON (10/5): Return visit to this hidden gem - A wonderful place to stay. We came in early 2020 and haven't managed to return until late 2024. Little has changed: no wear and tear, but the same stunning view and a magnificently appointed bedroom and bathroom. Perfect for exploring the Southern Vales, or for a short get-away from Adelaide.
- Roser (9/5): Superb -
- ADRIAN (10/5): - very nice
- Mark (10/5): The perfect place to stay. - Amazing accomodation, this room was superb. Great facilities & location. Jared is a true asset to this place. Great knowledge of the winery & surrounding suburbs. Highly recommend stay. Nothing

- Sharma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (10/5): Great fantastic - Everything was amazing Nothing!!!!!!
- Anne (10/5): Private and relaxing, a room with a great view - The style, view, comfort, coffee Nothing
- Ian (5/5): Disappointed the this was not a newly built property, breakfast was not provided, clean & comfortab - We thought we were getting a continental breakfast but it was not provided Property was advertised as newly built - not sure how long you can promote a property as newly built
- Rory (10/5): Luxurious stay in the vines -
- Karl (1/5): Bad - Nothing 8 am construction work
- Bradley (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (10/5): Highly recommend this special place - Gorgeous location close to beaches and wineries, beautiful views from the room, helpful and friendly staff, eco friendly format. We should have planned ahead and rented a car. Coming from the United Stares we were unable to load the local app for taxi service and Uber is not consistently available - plus the area really is much better for driving on your own. But this would have been the case in any hotel in the area, and we just rented a car the second day and absolutely loved our stay.
- Kathryn (10/5): Would have loved to stay longer and will be back again - Beautiful scenery, fantastic facilities
- Gavin (10/5): Exceptional -

- Andrei (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (4/5): winery woes.... - I was in the area for work and thought this place would be good. Unfortunately, my colleague had a bereavement and could not come. I realise a refund was impossible of course ... the stay was imminent - but did think that if there was a mutually convenient time - something might be possible... I have done this with illness and this was the passing of a son... but I also paid for the breakfast for both rooms ... and even that was charged and not consumed! and apparently on arrival ... was advised there have been a lot of unfortunate 'passings' of young people in SA of late..... maybe I am being to sensitive or harsh ... but cannot recommend or return
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional hospitality and incredibly relaxing - So clean and comfortable and views were sublime. Lots of stairs to get luggage in.
- Donna (10/5): Very relaxing. Not all that far away from civilisation but still felt remote. - Hotel California Rd at Inkwell Wines is a very intimate little boutique winery and motel. Teresa hosted an amazing wine tasting of the Inkwell wines. She was very interesting and knew a lot about everything there. Everything was so lovely and interesting and the views from the tasting room were amazing. We were a bit disappointed that the wine tasting was not complimentary given the price we paid for the accommodation. Not a big deal but would have been a nice touch.
- Hanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): Superb -

- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Friendly staff and were able to book in early. a bonus, plus had the opportunity for a wine tasting. - The view was great and the remoteness
- Vikki (10/5): Brilliant! - Most comfortable bed of all the hotels I've ever stayed in. Luxe rooms and interesting building. Personal and friendly service. Wine tasting after we checked-in. What more could you want!
Location is a few minutes out of McLaren Vale, but uber and taxis are readily available.
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice an quite very clean an tidy was beautiful! Especially the greenery view!
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful and relaxing. The perfect weekend getaway to unwind. The views were amazing and the hospitality was fantastic.

- Igor (10/5): Exceptional - I apologize for the confusion in my previous response. Here is the updated review for the Inkwell Hotel:
If you're looking for a unique and charming getaway that offers a picturesque setting and personalized service, the Inkwell Hotel at the Wynnery is the perfect choice. This boutique hotel is located within a working winery, surrounded by rolling vineyards and stunning countryside views.
The rooms at the Inkwell are cozy and comfortable, with carefully chosen decor that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Each room is uniquely designed and features luxurious amenities such as plush bedding, high-quality linens, and modern technology. The real highlight of the Inkwell, however, is the view. Every room offers sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards and countryside, which can be enjoyed from your private balcony or terrace.
While the Inkwell does not offer a pool or gym, there are plenty of other amenities to keep you entertained during your stay. The winery offers tours and tastings, where you can sample the delicious wines produced on-site and learn about the winemaking process. For a truly unique experience, you can even participate in a grape harvest or blending session. The Inkwell also features a cozy lounge area, where you can relax with a glass of wine and a good book, or enjoy the company of other guests.
What really sets the Inkwell apart, however, is the personalized service. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable, whether that means arranging transportation to local attractions, recommending the best restaurants in the area, or simply providing extra towels or pillows.
Overall, if you're looking for a peaceful and charming retreat in a beautiful setting, the Inkwell Hotel at the Wynnery is an excellent choice. With its cozy rooms, breathtaking views, and personalized service, it's the perfect place to unwind and recharge.

- Heather (10/5): Loved the industrial container structure. Very quirky without excluding any of the creature comforts - Good breakfast supplies. Yoghurt, fruit, cereal, bread, juice, milk & cheese which were ample. Coffee machine (a must for us).
Microwave would have a good addition but we managed without one. There was nothing not to like. Location - AMAZING. Room - AMAZING. Views across the vineyards - AMAZING. Double shower and bath tub with a view were a bonus.
- Sutton (9/5): Unique accommodation and special location - Setting was amazing. Right in the middle of the vineyard. Room was a converted container. Really different and great Greeting was a bit cool. The man was distracted and distant. Felt like we were a bit of a nuisance.
