Guest Reviews
- Alice (10/5): Perfect - Free bikes so can cycle around the village and it's beautiful. Good food from the restaurant next door. Kind hotel manager Nothing
- Nicole (10/5): Most friendly people & a quiet night - Super nice & friendly people! Close to boarder. The Location is rather isolated
- Jan (9/5): - For this price it is a real bargain. Very comfortable bed. Owners are very nice and friendly Personally, I would like a small fridge in the room, (but there is a fridge in the nearby building where breakfast is served) and for this price, I can certainly survive without it in the room
- Anna (10/5): - Owned by a very sweet couple who were incredibly welcoming and sweet. Big recommendation!
Niets
- Alice (8/5): - I'd recommend staying here for anyone that wants something a bit more off the beaten track. It's less than a 5 minute drive from the border crossing which is great, but does mean it is more rural as the town itself is further away. I went for a beautiful cycle through the country side with bike provided for free and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is basic but you have everything you need for a night - strong AC too. A home cooked meal was also really lovely! All the staff were helpful and friendly. Thank you
- Marco.spa (10/5): -
- Mandy (10/5): Perfect ! - The owners are the sweetest, warming and really helpful. They brought me to the border for Laos the next morning for free, their hospitality really warmed my heart.
The food from their restaurant is also really good. Thank you very very much ♥️
- Ian (8/5): - These basic little cabins are situated on a farm 5 minutes by bike from the Mekong River.
The friendly host provides a pick up drop off service.
There is a restaurant with excellent Thai food. A little hard to find.
- Roman (10/5): -
- Chanelle (10/5): Convenient and enjoyable stay - Nice clean room perfect location for crossing the border. Hosts were very nice people, very helpful and kindly picked us up and dropped us off the next morning where we needed to go. Food in the on site restaurant was great too!
- Jacqueline (10/5): - The hosts were so friendly and welcoming. They picked us up at the train drop off location and took us to the border the next day. This was a huge help! We also took advantage of the free use of the bicycles and explored the area a bit. I would definitely stay here again! The bed was nice and big and comfortable, but there was little room to walk when there’s a couple people moving around.
- TONYA (9/5): Peaceful, relaxing stop for a stayover near the border for crossing the next morning. - This is a beautiful place to stay to get away from it all. It's proximity to the Lao Friendship bridge makes it ideal for those taking the long boat to Luang Prapang. The site was well lit and secure at night and I felt safe going for a long walk along the dirt roads in the morning in the cool crisp CLEAN air! They breakfast that was provided was simple but very satisfying and more than enough to get us on our way for our boat tour! The rooms are quite tiny... but we knew that going in.
- Catutelle (9/5): Nice property to go in Laos next morning - Very nice property and owners ! The stay is comfy and very clean. They brought us to the border next morning which was very nice of them and even pick up us when we arrived by bus. They also have free bycicles that you can use to make a little tour of the area. Only the fact their restaurants is more expensive that usual and you are a bit forced to eat here because you have nothing in the surroundings. Otherwise, good food 🤗

- Eleni (10/5): - Excellent value for money accommodation. The owner picked us up from the Thai check office and the next day took us to Chiang Khong to take the bus to Chiang Rai, at no extra charge. In the evening we ate excellent Thai food at their restaurant. Also in the morning his wife gave us delicious fruit from their garden as we left. Definitely highly recommended.
- Oliver (8/5): Nice 1-night stay close to the border - I stayed 1 night before taking the slowboat into Laos.
The host was very welcoming and helpful, giving me a lift to the border checkpoint in the morning and directing me to my tour group. They also dropped an umbrella at my door while I was napping after checking in, and it started raining, which was super nice.
The room is comfortable, with AC, though I actually didn't use it since it was raining overnight and opening the window has a nice breeze.
A little far away from anything else, but there's a restaurant also run by the owners nearby, so for a 1 night stay, it is still quite convenient.
- Jillian (10/5): The host picked me up and dropped me off. They were lovely! - Convenient stay in the mountains on a farm and easy commute to the boarder. Restaurant on site with the best mango I’ve ever had- grown from their garden.
- David (10/5): Perfect quiet stop and local food - Very helpful owner.
Isolated location with fresh fruit and veggies used to cook traditional dishes in the family restaurant next door.
Collected in town.
Taken to the border.
Tiny joke was small but adequate, clean and comfortable.
Very quiet nights sleep. All good
- Terra (10/5): Perfect spot for crossing the border. - The owner was very helpful with our transportation needs. He welcomed us into the family’s farm and made us feel right at home!
- Amir (8/5): Very good - View Breakfast was nothing to eat...just bread and jam
- Maya (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect stop for one night after crossing the border. It's about a 5 minute drive from there and a 10 minute drive into town. We got dropped off and picked up free of charge. There's a lovely restaurant on the property as well. The room was clean, hot water for the shower and strong wifi. It was the perfect introduction to Thailand! Thank you!
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were so friendly, Peelha and her husband were so helpful. They picked us up from the bus stop when we arrived and dropped us off at the border when we left to go on the boat. They also gave us some bananas for the trip because I had a few food allergies. The room is very clean and cute.
- Carina (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little hotel at the Chiang Khong border. The owners are so kind and helpful. There’s a small restaurant on site with vegan options.
- Daniil (10/5): Awesome place in the nature - Great and comfy little house.
First I thought I'd stay for just 1 night to rest before going to Laos, but ended up staying for 2 nights on my way to Laos and 1 night on my way back.
What I liked:
- you have a separate private house in a beautiful landscape
- there is a desk/table and wifi, good for us working nomads
- there are all the usual amenities like good AC, kettle, coffee, toiletries, water etc.
- TV works great, I watched some films from my usb drive.
- there is an outside kitchen with fridge, microwave, dishes etc.
- cute cats and dogs on the territory
- the host is so kind and helpful. He offers transfer to and from the border and the bus station, and also he agreed to keep my scooter for the time of my trip to Laos
I would gladly just chill there for a week (if only I had the time). Next time I'm around, I'll definitely stay there again. Not real issues for this place, but I'll mention it for fellow travellers:
- The shower heater didn't work in the house to the left
- Wifi was very slow but steady around 7-10 mbps
- Daniil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Relaxing Place. - This is the perfect place to stay if you are crossing the border between Thailand and Laos. The property is only 5 mins from the border, set in the countryside with no city noise to disturb you. You can chill before making the crossing. The rooms are a nice size, clean and comfortable. There is aircon, tv, tea/coffee making facilities and even a hair dryer.
There is nothing else around the property but if you want a meal a restaurant is just 20mtrs away and the food is very good.
A simple breakfast of tea, toast and fruit is provided. The owner picked us up from the border after a minibus drop off and took us there the next morning.
If you want a great place which is excellent value for money, this is it!!
- Alice (9/5): Superb - This place is fab, the huts are so cozy with very comfy beds, private bathrooms and excellent air con. The family owned restaurant next door also has the best vibes and excellent food. We felt very welcome and looked after. They took us to the border for the slow boat for free and told us exactly what we needed to do! For the price this place is absolutely amazing!
- Lucy (10/5): Super accommodating family and memorable stay! - What a stay here! We only stayed for one night, but it was so memorable. An absolute bargain for the price, with a host family that are so accommodating. Everything worked perfectly in the room, including a super comfy bed and excellent shower. Breakfast included and meal prepared on site (due to Songkran!), plus a free border pick-up for check in and drop off at the local bus station for check out. Absolutely perfect, thank you !
- Celine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect for crossing over into Laos.
The place is in the middle of nowhere - I spent the afternoon listening to the birds tweeting. Really peaceful and relaxing. Nothing.
- Qi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alli (10/5): You need to stay here! - The bungalows are so cute! They pick you up at the border but rather than pay 140 to go to the border you can just pay 90 and they’ll pick you up at the Tesco Lotus. There’s a restaurant right there and it’s in the country so very quiet. Everyone needs to stay here! Nothing! It was 10/10.
- Keagan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francesca (10/5): Amazing place!! Overall great welcoming vibes from a lovely local couple. - Rooms were so comfortable and clean with the hottest shower we’d had in a while!! This is the best place to stay if you do the slow boat. The very nice owner picks you up right from the border, and drops you off from the bus station. Kettle and water bottles complimentary as well as a free breakfast of toast with jams and coffee/tea. The wife cooks exceptional food and was very accommodating for the food allergies.
- Tracy (10/5): You can’t beat the value. We were picked up at the border and although the property isn’t in walking distance to anythin - Proximity to Thai border
Very friendly and helpful owners
Great food at the restaurant
Great value Nothing
- Catherine (9/5): Superb - Very peaceful location surrounded by nature ideal for border crossing to Loas. Run by lovely family who will pick you up from Chiang Khong and take you to the immigration point to start your journey to Loas.
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Randall (9/5): Superb - Cute little bungalows set amid farmlands. A short stroll around the property took us past banana groves and rubber trees being tapped. Host family was very kind and spoke English well. Ride was furnished free to Laos border to meet boat. The cute LITTLE bungalows are tiny, but there was sufficient room for bed and decent bath.
- Carolina (10/5): Nice and clean room - The room itself is really nice even if it’s not very big. I got everything I needed for one night including clean towels, soap bar and water. Close to the houses there is a nice restaurant that also belong to the same owner. Food is good and cheap! Breakfast was also simple but good, I found everything I needed. The pick up service was really appreciated and the owner also brought me to the closest bus station. Hospitality in general was great, I really recommend staying here!! Nothing
- Gemma (10/5): Brilliant border stop! - Very cute bungalow with super friendly and well organised hosts. Good food. And free bicycles. Great transitional spot en route to Laos.
- Lily (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic service and location for crossing the boarder! Owners could not have been more helpful or kind. Restaurant was delicious.
- David (8/5): Fantastic value and wonderful service!! - Close the Thai/Laos border and great onsite restaurant.
- Megan (10/5): Exceptional - Great for a slow boat stop over and the breakfast was a sweet touch
- Emmy (10/5): So enjoyable! - So restful. Beautiful surroundings. Birds. Free bike.
The hosts La and Thong were the best. Smiley. Helpful. La is a great cook! Nothing
- Dennis (9/5): Great stop before crossing the border - Nice little bungalows close to the border. Everything you need for a short stop. Even got some coffee and toast for breakfast and they have a restaurant just 50m away. Staff was super friendly and spoke good english.
- Ali (8/5): Value for Money Accommodation - It was a very reasonable price and ideal for us for transfer to Laos across the friendship bridge crossing. Our host collected us at Lotus supermarket which was useful as the accommodation is right out of the town of Chiang Khong. He waited while we collected anything we needed from the supermarket. The place we stayed had a restaurant for are evening meal, delicious home cooked food. Our hosts were lovely. I wouldn't say this is a dislike but to let you know that it is clean and tidy, comfortable but not luxurious.
We didn't have a top sheet but didn't matter to us as we had sleeping bags liners.
Cash only for accommodation and so make sure you have cash.
- Greenfield (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bastiaan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (10/5): Perfect stay at the border - Very convenient for a one night before or after crossing the border. Plus the host came to pick us up at the border and drop us off the next morning at the bus station. They are so kind and adorable! The room has everything you need and you even get a small breakfast in the morning. Nothing
- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are incredibly helpful and friendly and Pilaa is an amazing cook. The business model for this place is fantastic: free pick up and drop off to the bus station and friendship bridge plus comfortable lodgings at a great price. Love the little bungalows.
- Mette (9/5): Superb - 10/10 for amazing service and hospitality. Was picked up at border and also dropped off at bus station in town next morning for my onwards journey.
Had amazing dinner cooked for me in the family restaurant next to the place when I arrived. And also got fruit for the bus journey next day.
Cute little individual bungalow and very quiet location in the countryside. Everything is simple but works perfectly.
The most friendly hosts ever and amazing value for money
- Mister (9/5): Recommended - Great place to stay, great helpful hosts Out of the town, but has onsite restaurant and host is happy to assist in commuting.
- Amy (10/5): Convenient location and lovely hosts - For the price this place can't be beat. Delicious restaurant from owner's sister and lovely and relaxing view over into Laos. Was picked up in town from my bus from Chiang Rai and dropped off at the border the next morning. Small but clean rooms with everything I needed. Was nice to take a bike out for a nice ride along the water. Highly recommend. Nothing
- Vasco (10/5): Perfect stay next to the Thai Laos border - - super attentive and welcoming host always available to help
- Host went above and beyond and picked us up from border and dropped us in bus station next day
- Simple breakfast
- Comfortable and spacious bed
- bathroom floor dried quite fast after shower
- Next to family restaurant with delicious food for super fair prices perfect for dinner
- There is a water dispenser
- They have free bike rental if you have time to use them
- The houses look quite cool from outside - our hot water was limited for shower, but was not a big problem
- Chantal (10/5): Super stay - The owner and his wife were lovely. Very friendly, they spoke good English, and picked us up at the border and drove us to the bus station next morning. The huts are cute and small but comfortable and clean. We even saw how they air the pillows in the sun after guests leave. There was a breakfast of toast and bananas and the restaurant next door was a good place to eat and recover after the slow boat trip. The huts are idyllically set among fields of banana and rubber trees - we slept very well and had a nice walk in the fields next morning. We would recommend Panna Kalong any time ! And very reasonably priced. Nothing - it was all excellent
- Rachel (10/5): Incredibly helpful owner and perfect location for navigating the border crossing - As all the reviews say, the owner was so helpful and picked us up at the Thai border after coming from Laos, and we had a lovely Thai meal in his restaurant. The room was everything we needed and very comfortable. In the morning we had breakfast and again he drove us to the town to get a bus to Chiang mai. Couldn’t fault this property or the owner and it made the whole process very easy
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent option for crossing the Thai-Laos border. They picked us up from the bus from Chiang Rai and have a restaurant at the hostel. Dinner was not included but was very delicious and well worth it.
- Virginie (10/5): Calm overnight stay - Individual small house in peaceful and quiet environment! Host super nice, pick up at the bus station, drop off at the border in the morning. Free Bicycle to visit the village in the afternoon. Super good restaurant onsite. And so kind Nothing
- Lesley (10/5): Wonderful little haven - Absolutely brilliant! As we came over the border off the slow boat and watched other people battle for tuk tuks and try to sort transport to chiang rai, we waited just 10 minutes for the owner to arrive and pick us up in his comfortable car. This place was a beautiful, green and peaceful, oasis so close to the border and the owners were so wonderfully welcoming. The cabins are small but have everything you need. The restaurant on site serves delicious Thai food. I can't recommend it enough. Fantastic intro to Thai hospitality. Loved it all!!!!
- Megan (10/5): Brilliant stop before the border - The property is very close to the border. The owner was so kind and welcoming, they picked us up from the bus in town and then the next morning offered to drive us to the border. We just stayed one night before going to Laos. If you were staying longer you’d need a form of transport to get around.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Amazing stay close to the border crossing - Simply amazing for a night's stay after a long travel day and crossing the border. The host picked us up from the border free of charge and dropped us off at the bus station in town the next day. The restaurant was closed when we arrived, but his wife made us a delicious Thai dinner. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, so we cannot recommend this place enough. Nothing.
- Roget (10/5): Exceptional -
- Reha (8/5): Very good - Location is not easy to find if you are driving there
- Micky (10/5): Amazingly helpful. - Extremely helpful and informative which is good when crossing the border into Laos. Great dinner and breakfast. All food and accommodation cost only 20 euros. Brilliant and a pick up from the bus and dropped to border in the morning is included. Unbelievable!! Small room.
No sea views.
- Amelia (10/5): Exceptional - Such a great place! Would highly recommend it if you are coming from the border or going to. The owners are so friendly and helpful, the accommodation is comfy and exactly what we needed after a day of the long boat. The owner picked us up from the border and dropped us off at the bus station in the morning. They have a cute little restaurant on site as they are a little off grid. Would stay again! Nothing!
- Zofia (10/5): Absolutely amazing - The family running this is absolutely amazing! Their service was so good. They picked us up from the bus stop and drove us to the border in the morning. The location is so peaceful and beautiful. We had a delicious dinner as they do have a restaurant next to the accommodation. Honestly we couldn’t recommend them enough!! The room had everything you need and was clean. Nothing
- Marilyn (10/5): One of the best hosts and stunning views! - Owner picked us up at where the coach from Chiang Rai dropped us off. He was also kind enough to send us to a money exchange before heading to the accommodations! He made fried eggs for us as well and picked fruits from his orchard which we really enjoyed. And the views at his place is absolutely stunning. Thanks for your hospitality! Non!
- Ingrid (9/5): A very warm welcome and a beautiful, peaceful location - Perfect little bungalow in a great location We took a while to find it but we were on bicycles!
- Conor (10/5): Kind and helpful hosts - Hosts were extremely nice! Very friendly and helpful. Dropped us to the border for our slow boat. They did everything they could to make our stay more enjoyable. They were such kind hosts and would purely go back just to see them! Very helpful with allergies too and made sure there was food we could eat. Beautiful views surrounding the property. Not close to any shops but good location for one night before slow boat
- Alan (9/5): Superb -
- Zhengchuan (9/5): Nice host and nice stay! You guys made our day - Super close to the border and the host nicely offered to pick us up at the border. The bed was quite comfortable, really liked it as we just have had a hard slow-boat trip. The host was helpful and hospitable, offering useful advice and nice meal. Really recommended! Nothing really serious. The flies and mosquitoes was a lot yet understandable considering the location. But it would be better if some repellent measures can be taken. Also it is suggested to provide hair driers for female travelers.
- Maia (9/5): Superb - Very close to the boarder, can use the bikes there, owners very lovely and caring. Got a breakfast included the next morning. There’s a restaurant on site too
- Kieran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent value for money. I booked one night here in order to cross the border in the morning, however i was unsure how i would get to the border. To my suprise, the owner not only dropped me off at the border in the morning, after offering a free breakfast, but also picked me up from the nearby town after i got off my bus. Owners were kind, and cooked me a delicious pad thai at their restaurant for a good price. Room was comfortable and clean, had a tv and a private bathroom. Very impressed with the stay. I had no issues with the stay.
- Rene (8/5): Very good - Very nice and friendly the owners.
- Oliver (9/5): Superb - Free pick up after we crossed the Laos border into Thailand and they cooked us a lovely meal once we got back to the property. The little huts had good A/C, were comfortable and clean. They dropped us off at the bus station in the morning too.
- Riku (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mehdi (9/5): Superb - Staff was so friendly and helpful!
- Pacesetters (10/5): Exceptional - Personal service to impress. Pick up at border, dinner at a very reasonable price, perfectly cooked egg for breakfast, drop off at bus station. Most of all, a clean and comfortable room for the night.
- Ian (10/5): A Gem in Chiang Khong - Picked up at Thai Immigration by owner. Unexpectedly , restaurant standard meal prepared by owners on our arrival for a very reasonable cost.
Our hosts could do nothing more to make our overnight stay a pleasure.
Transportation of our group of four with large luggage items to bus depot was done again as part of our stay after a lovely cooked breakfast.
The rooms as the photos depict, are small but very clean and comfortable. Nothing.
- Jan (9/5): A little gem - The good reviews this place has received were absolutely correct. Very nice and helpful people and though the bungalow room was probably the smallest I have ever stayed in, it was lovely and perfect for my needs. I always bring a memory foam matrass in my car when I travel around in Thailand because of my bad back, but this time I could leave it in the car because the bed was comfortable as it was. Nothing negative to report about this place. The GPS didnt show the shortest route to get there but once there, they owners showed me a short cut.
- Niv (7/5): Cute place - Very nice stuff
Comfortable bed
Close to the border Located far away from any shops and restaurants
But the owner drove me
- Maria (10/5): Lovely stay with lovely host! - A great place to stay if you decide to cross the border on your own and not being picked up from Chiang mai or Chiang rai. The owner picks you up from the bus stop and then drops you off at the border the next day and can arrange for you a ticket and Lao border assistance and transfer from the border to the pier for 1200 baht (I like my comfort so opted for that!). The room is nice and has all you need. They also run a lovely restaurant where his absolutely lovely wife cooks delicious meals. Tip: take a bike and ride along the area and stop at the Mekong beach, which is very close, for a drink with the locals by the Mekong and a lovely local atmosphere -
