Guest Reviews

- Ross (8/5): European / Island living - If you're up for adventure you should try this out. Inexpensive, but with eccentricities. Common bathrooms and commercial kitchen. Cool outdoor shower. Amazing, huge private courtyard with waterfall and treehouse.
Cross between Europe and Island living.
- Iraida (10/5): - Good cleaning house keeping

- Doreen (10/5): - This is a really good hostel. The location & nearby restaurants are excellent. I enjoyed the property’s backyard. It was very relaxing. The room was clean & comfortable. I would also like to thank James & Chris for going above & beyond to make my stay great. I highly recommend staying here!
- William (8/5): - Very nice folks, neat little backyard setup.
- kelly (10/5): - Such a unique stay. I’ll def be back. Treehouse and fresh spring water pool in the yard. Just to name a few of the cool curiosities. Good people.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great.
- Ruth (10/5): - Booked this at my partner's insistence (based on reviews) and as a starting point/ backup for our florida keys road trip - on entering the property, we were both so impressed with the welcoming vibe of the owner and staff, combined with the incredible beauty of the courtyard / backyard that we ended up booking a second night to extend our time in that space and pushing our road trip back a few days. As many have said, the open space area especially the natural spring pool was peaceful, magical and meditative - I used it by myself at night, felt very comfortable and safe, and we also used it in the day. As a grown adult, I had the time of my life having fun climbing the tree house, playing on the tree swings, fawning over the rabbits, and being calmed by the overlapping sounds of running water and the natural beauty of the space.
I was concerned about sharing a bathroom - which was very clean on our arrival (though that deteriorated through the night - this comes with the territory of sharing bathrooms with strangers). We ended up booking a second night and moving rooms due to availability, the bathroom was fine after that. There is also an outdoor shower which was such a luxury to experience.
As a younger female, I felt very safe and comfortable; I found the staff (and guests) to be kind, respectable and generous. Extra shout out James, Chris and Omar and of course Michael for creating and curating such a beautiful space and energy.
- Paul (8/5): An inexpensive night. - Good place, good guy who runs it. Lots of character.
- David (2/5): - Was not what I expected and no refund had to go to a hotel which met expectations
- Arthur (2/5): - Didn't stay check in was at ,4pm I needed to check in at 9am so I lost money
- Verified traveler (10/5): Special place with such sweet hosts - We were completely suprised by the super cool backyard, christmas lights decorated the trees, there was a fishpond and beautiful little pool, rabbits and a treehouse! The whole place seemed a little bit like a fairytale and chris, who managed the place, just went above and beyond at making us feel comfortable! We really appreciated such an excellent host. The house itself seems a bit rundown but charming. The only thing I didn´t care for was the smell of the kitchen, which I thought was unpleasant. All in all a special experience at a great price, we would come again.
- Rosa (4/5): - I made reservations at 10pm paid for it online when I got to the property the office closes at 9 pm so I couldn’t stay poor management
- Ryan (10/5): - I only stayed for 1 night but the check in was quick, the bed, dorm and shower were clean, and there was parking right in front of the hostel. If I come back to vacation in the keys/miami again I will definitely use Hoosville Hostel again.
- Steve J (10/5): - The staff is professional and caring. The place is safe and comfortable. Best rates in town!
- Esmeralda (4/5): - The property was fine, it depends on people staying in the rooms . Rules are not enforced, which made the stay unpleasant. Other than that , it was ok.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to kick back after exploring. Simple, affordable, laid-back. I would advise bringing some disinfectant wipes for the shared bathroom, as some people have not been taught how to clean themselves, but that's just one of those things with shared facilities. I would not hesitate to book here again!
- Glenda (10/5): - Great service
- Steve J (10/5): - James and Justin do a great job. We really appreciate their kindness and willingness to work with us for an enjoyable day.
- Wayne (2/5): - We didn’t like anything except leaving. I will probably never get the order of curry out of my system. The person who served us was creepy. We left after an hour or so. The place was in a very bad location and we were afraid of having our car stolen, despite what the server told us. we cannot believe that this property had a 8.4 rating!
- Vincent (4/5): - Smells like chemicals
- Adolphus (2/5): - Awful, the host kept talking about crackheads. I didn’t stay, I left after being in my room for ten minutes. The room was in poor condition, the blankets were extremely old and stained.
- Eric (10/5): - Bit different from regular hotel stay, had no issues about anything, nice back yard, quite unique, I would certainly consider staying here again
- Bre (2/5): - Had trouble at entrance, ring bell speaker full of static. Was denied use of the restroom. Felt unsafe dirty out dated and accommodations Limited. Did not stay and had a problem getting refund. Not a good choice at all. Would not recommend. And Expedia did not help get my money back reported both to the BBB
- Joonseung (10/5): - I loved the place. People are nice and kind.
- Francisco (4/5): - Very low level property
- Douglas (8/5): - If you are looking for an authentic South Florida adventure with character, Hoosville will linger in your memory. Friendly hostel host, outdoor area with unique personality, clean shared bathroom, washing/drying facilities, and a great price. May be not for everyone, but we enjoyed ourselves more than at a boring motel.
- David (10/5): Great staff - Staff was very helpful and met all my requested accomiations
- Louis (8/5): - excellent staff who helped make the stay comfortable. There was a problem with only two restrooms which is not enough. After midnight, other customers stayed in the restrooms for over an hour and would not leave. They were either sick or incoherent.
- Jim (10/5): - Stayed there with my girlfriend to recharge after a night of mosquitoes and rain in Everglades National Park. The owner, Mike, and all of his staff are welcoming and sociable. Interior is a little run-down, but clean and vibrant. The backyard will take your breath away. This place is his passion project, he bought it in total disrepair and has put 5 years now into renovating the place for young travelers looking for some nightlife fun and affordable accommodations. He also hosts reggae parties during holidays, with a fog machine, lasers, and DJ. Mike and the crew have big plans for their hostel, and he’ll gladly chat with you all morning about it. Can’t wait to go back for a NYE party once his smoothie bar (using local produce) and his Caribbean food stand get finished. Seriously, if you’re okay with a communal bathroom, come stay at a slice of Jamaican paradise right between Everglades and Key Largo.
- Mariam (8/5): - Lots of amenities is this hostel which is good, only thing is rooms need upgrade but the affordable makes up for it
- Jeanette (8/5): Hostel in Miami area - Our first time staying in a hostel. Staff was friendly and room was clean. We stayed in a private room. Hostel, although decorated nicely had a more “lived in” appearance and could definitely benefit from a small facelift.
Outdoor common area was really pretty and it had a large outdoor shower as well as a tree house.
We stayed in the “Water room” which had mermaid pictures on the wall. It had a mini fridge, smart tv and a portable ac unit Jerry rigged out the window?
Oh and there was a $20 deposit for the remote control to the tv in the room.
Neat property if you are looking for something mid point between Miami and the Keys or if you want to try out a hostel.
- Georgina (10/5): - This was a fun place to stay, so colorful, btight, comfortable double bed in single room, shared shower, the back yard was fun, has a trees house, pool, very colourul and the staff very accommodating even stayed up after check ik n so i could book into my room, i would stay here again.
- jesse (10/5): - The place is amazing that is all
- Verified traveler (10/5): - large cooking facilities as well as a washer and dryer
- Jere (10/5): Very comfortable and interesting place to stay - This is an incredibly comfortable and well run place for a hostel.
It's great value close to Everglades and The Keys.
The backyard garden is beautiful.
Bathrooms are spotless.
Nice kitchen open for resident's use.
Management seems to screen out dodgy characters; I've felt completely safe here during my 6 day stay.
Can't say enough good things about it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - If you are ok with a hostel you will be ok here. And Michael the owner is fabulous, friendly and helpful. We had a private room which was clean and neat. However all amenities, a/c for example are minimal (we had a non window unit). Shared bathroom was clean too. The building is old and kind of rundown and the kitchen could be more user friendly, kind of old smelly fridge.
- guinnevere (10/5): A fun unique experience:) - This was a super cool quirky place. The people running it are super nice. It’s a great place to relax. Everything is communal, the rooms have several sets of bunk beds and you are renting a bed for the evening. There is a community kitchen and eating area as well as to watch tv. If you are cool sharing a room with others, this is a great spot. Felt safe and really enjoyed my time here.
- Adam (10/5): - Spent the night here before a snorkel tour in Key Largo and was not disappointed. This is not one of those cookie cutter motels, it has a great unique and charming character. Spent the night swimming in a spring fed pool and hanging out in a tree house. Don't know too many other hotels I can say that about. Thank you for the experience!
- Molly (2/5): - I was unprepared for this place. Started off bad from the start you had to ring the door bell to enter and the gentleman that answered was in polite he was being kicked out because of an altercation where a knife was pulled. It was super scary feeling. I did not feel comfortable at all. The lady who showed us to the room and around the property was very mean and unpleasent. I would not recommend this place unless you like to stay in a halfway style place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very offbeat, yet pleasant. Staff were friendly. The 3-story tree house was cool, as were the two swimming pools. The grounds are a great place to sit with a drink and chill. Occasionally, the staff burned their trash; this was unpleasant.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I was overwhelmed by how adorable this place was!
- Jack (10/5): One of the best! - Friendly staff, comfortable bed, nice amenities (washer, kitchen, TV room etc).
Good value and a big backyard for relaxing (pool, tree view, gazebo)
Location with restaurants and store nearby.
- Nicola (10/5): Happy - Chris on reception was always very happy to help with anything, always with a smile! Thanks Chris, you made my stay very easy and relaxing!
Without a car they could have branched out and done mini bus trips to Key West and the Everglades which would make their business boom!
- Nargiz (10/5): - This place so nice and friendly! I just stayed 3nights. So cozy, need more fix. But anyway it was clean, stuff were friendly.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - pool
- bugs in the bathroom, very dirty overall, quite gross.
