Guest Reviews
- Innocent (10/5): -
- Angie (10/5): - Hot tub was good. Not powerful enough for me tho lol didnt seem like the jets were strong. Next time we'll do the bigger suit for the bigger hot tub. Personally i likes to have a tv in the room cuz the little google screens are so tiny. Its just how i like to relax is all. The hostess was AMAZING!!! She chatted with us like shes known us for yrs!! Very sweet friendly lady. Id recommend the whale house guest house to allmy friend's and family. We're looking forward to returning there another yr.
- Hector (10/5): - The unit was very well appointed. We enjoyed the ambiance, the views, the hot tub and found the bed very comfortable. A very enjoyable stay. Thanks
- Ericka (10/5): - This place is an absolute must! Jennifer was so fast responding, super sweet, and this place was absolutely beautiful. Very environmentally friendly. The hot tub was super clean and all ready when we got there. We will definitely be backđ
- Janice (9/5): - The Muscovy ducks were a hit! It is a bit out of the way.
- Crispin (10/5): - Its lovely.
- Jeannie (10/5): - Relaxing stay at the Whale house. The room is amazing!
Only thing is the trees need to be trimmed to have a better view of the water.
- David (9/5): Loved the setting. - We so LOVED having beautiful stemmed wine glasses - thank you! Also loved the coffee press & having a toaster oven & coffee maker. Thank you for the nice tough of 2 cans of sparkling water in the refrigerator, we saved them for the next guest. The auto bathroom light/fan was too noisy for night time use. We would have liked a bath mat. We found the bed too small. We also found that there wasnât anywhere to sit with back support, a reading chair would be nice. Also, another light is needed for the counter area, maybe a touch USB. We were also way too warm, need a portable fan! The door screen was lovely for a breeze but the counter window isnât an option to open with the bugs.
- Rick (4/5): - We did not appreciate all the rules and the pictures are completely misleading. I would definitely not recommend this property overly priced for the amenities you get.
- Govinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (7/5): Good - Quiet lovely views comfortable. Could benefit from a bit better kitchen space. Microwave and toaster are limiting
- Kayla (10/5): - The hot tub and harbour views were spectacular! Very cozy room. Very relaxing and great reset :)
- Jess (8/5): - Beautiful spot and we enjoyed ourselves but the heat was off when we arrived and it took quite a while it to come on. In December to arrive and it be freezing was disappointing.
- Jason (8/5): - The hosts were great, the place was clean, everything we needed for a short stay was there. Everything was marked well, easy to find, and clear instructions were set out for the use of amenities in/around the property. Bonus points for the cruelty free products that were supplied.
There were a couple of small things that would have really gave it that extra something though. It would have been nice to have a little space to sit outside on such nice days, even just enough room for a patio chair or two. The hot tub was nice but didnât feel as private as we would have liked due to the patio above, and the large windows from one of the other suites just off to the side. The curtains do provide some privacy but we were still very aware of the people/things around us. Speaking of privacy all of the google assistants seamed to be linked to the same account so at one point we were listening to music that was being controlled from somewhere else in the house. It took a minute to figure out what was happening. Considering the capabilities for drop ins, and the built in cameras, having all of those linked felt a little concerning.
- Lorraine (5/5): Wouldnât go back. - Close to dock for boat tour next day.
Inside of room was nice. View of a weed garden from my room. Not even a chair to sit outside. Had to walk 10 minutes down a rocky path to get a view of the water. Woke up to an excavator just outside my room at 745am.
Not what I expected and way too overpriced.
- Rosalie (8/5): Nice place to visit. Glad we came. Will try an upper floor next time - The cleanliness and thought gone into it The bird poop! Nearly stepped in a bunch and a couple were fighting. The grass desperately needs too be cut, looks neglected
- Michael (6/5): - The footsteps of people walking in the suite above kept us awake. Sheets were cheap. Hot tub on deck was nice but took up the whole deck and there was nowhere to sit out. View of ocean not that great cause of trees and bushes.
- Michael (8/5): - Place was very clean, very easy to find. Beautiful when you could see around the trees. Only complaint was the noise (footsteps) coming from upstairs every morning. If you wanted to sleep in this was not happening. Hot tub in the humpback room was very noisy when jets are on, also the view was blocked by trees. Overall we enjoyed our stay, cute property, and great attention to detail.
- Briana (8/5): Amazing views and location - The views, watching the sunrise from bed, and the location near the east coast trail I am not a fan of the signs posted everywhere with cartoon characters. It doesnât fit the earthy sustainable vibe at all, but not that big of a deal. There is no sink in the kitchen area and there is no place to really make a meal. We had to move the microwave and plug it into the wall so we could pop popcorn. Overall a great stay and would recommend.
- Nicole (5/5): Passable -
- Jesse (4/5): Ask questions before booking randomly. - Quiet and great location. Comfortable beds and very clean. All pictures shown are of the much larger rooms available. We were definitely disappointed when we were shown the room that we reserved. Not at ALL what was highlighted in the listing! Make it clearer for the next people that will book to manage expectations.
Lastly and most disappointing is that ALL your toilet paper must be put into a garbage can in the bathroom. Even after a number 2. The room STANK like you know what all night. Horrible and never again.
- Watson (5/5): Passable - natural garden (and free range poultry) was nice, literally right on the east coast trail! - a partial view of the bay from the garden it's a pretty small unit, if you wanted to sit inside, your options are: soft cheap bed, very hard steel stool, or the toilet, two forks and two knives were provided, a few odd spoons...i couldnt imagine trying to actually make a meal in that kitchen unless you brought proper cutlery, knife set, real plates, etc. but fine for warming up items etc... my unit was the only one with clear glass on the door and a clear view of the bed thanks to a half curtain on the door glass...and mine was the first unit, so all tenants get a clear view of you and your room whenever they walk by (i rectified by putting my towel over the window.) I imagine the hot tub units are quite nice, this "apartment" should be half the price of those better units...at most..
- Dave (8/5): - A nice getaway
- Iryna (8/5): Nice place but the comfort depends where your room is. - Location, garden Noise of footsteps in a upper room
- David (10/5): - We stayed in the Blue Whale room. Very spacious room and comfortable bed. The hot tub was great. Two decks to view the water.Very attentive management that checks in with you.
We would definitely book this again.
- Robyn (10/5): It was a wonderful night - The hot tub with the view was magical Wish the trail leading down was lighted
- Cherie (9/5): Superb - Location was good with a great view! Not a full kitchen but was fine for what we needed.
- Warren (4/5): - The guy that works there was amazing but inside the bugs carpenters everywhere and I had door shut from the jacuzzi so wake up to ants crawling over me and went get shower four carpenters in there.just spray the place inside out home defense and I never complain
- Bonnie (10/5): A lovely evening at the Whale House Guest House - I couldnât have asked for a nicer evening and morning view. The room was beautiful and so comfortable.
- Glen (5/5): Sort of disappointing for the price we paid. Then a charge for cleaning. Didnât see that until after billed. - Friendly and accommodating. I missed the info for no tv. Small. Noisy feet above us.
- Lynn (8/5): Good stay - The staff very nice and clean and very helpful. Black flies were biting and she went and got a bug lamp and gave me some essential oils to help. The bed was comfortable, and had pretty lights outside and sitting areas. Was a little pricey for me. There was no TV, and not being able to flush your toilet paper down the toilet(that was the main thing that I did not like)
- dawn (6/5): - Room was quite cute and clean Hot tub was great Area around the room very sweet
Walls are paper thin, could here people walking around above us much earlier than we wanted to be woken
Was hoping for quiet evening of relaxation and tv but only small I pad to view with very small screen
Had everything to make coffee except something to whiten it with. When I asked
about whitner I was told to go to a close by store. Advertising indicates coffee available so I didnât expect to have to go out to buy milk.
Rules signs everywhere. Was asked to save water by having only a 5 minute shower but it took more than that to get it hot
Two chairs provided by they were wooden and not to comfortable Would have been great for someone younger than I
Overall a sweet room with a comfortable bed but a little overpriced
- Paul (7/5): Disappoint - The room was very noisy from a heavy, stomping individual in the room above through to late in the night, past 11pm.
Also, the room rate should be advertised with the $50 cleaning fee included. To see it added as a separate charge is ridiculous. Itâs not a tax and itâs easy to miss it when booking. Cleaning fees should be included in the posted cost.
Had it been included in the rate identified when booking we would not have taken the room.
- Pauline (9/5): Ideal Location - Small room but very well laid out and beautifully decorated . Nicely landscaped and plenty of outdoor seating. Good view of the water. Mattress could be better.
- David (10/5): delightful - impeccably clean great great great views zero
- Patricia (7/5): Best for young, agile, lean travellers. Pay attention to the room you book. Budget room is small. - Didn't expect instant porridge, cookies and flavoured seltzer. Also tea and coffee available. Only 2 settings of tableware available so I don't know what dishes you would use to prepare and serve the food? But a small toaster oven and a microwave, and an outdoor BBQ is availlable, The common space outside is quite inviting with a slight view of the bay through the trees. We did not do any cooking. We recommend the Fork Restaurant, 1 minute drive away..but it is pricey. Quality shampoo, conditoner and hand soap provided. The shower stall is new and has great water pressure. Somehow I got mixed up with the booking. Every picture I saw of my room looked as though it was spacious and looked out over the bay. A jacuzzi was available, which I thought was a communal one. What I actually had was a very small. almost storage container-feel room. No bay view, no jacuzzi. But to be fair, the room was very modern. I think this room would be perfect for two young, fit travellers. Not older folks. The kitchen stools look good but didn't provide any back support. I wondered if they could support 225 pounds for any length of time! There is no comfortable chair to sit on. The double bed is against the wall, so one of the couple has difficulty getting out of the bed if the other one is asleep. The bathroom light is on a motion sensor, so the room goes dark as you are in the shower. Very annoying. An elephant ( or what sounded like one) kept stomping around upstairs, (until 10:00pm) very loudly!
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Greg (6/5): - Humpback whale room is super small and not comfortable. A bed. Two hard chairs. Small high windows. Fine for a night. There are hiking trails near by. There is a hot tub for those who like, outside of the room.
- Kathryn (6/5): It's not for me - I liked the view, the wild birds that greeted me, and the hot tub. The room was big and the bed was comfy. I didn't like the rules that I wasn't told about before booking. The blinds were really hard to lower, and the bathroom sink was way too small to even wash my hands. The fuse blew when I turned the kettle on and the heat never worked.
- Rebecca (8/5): - This little hideaway is absolutely gorgeous! We enjoyed the views and the well kept hot tub. The greeters were also very entertaining!
- Helmien (8/5): Nice getaway for a day. - Nothing. The weather was bad and we spent a long time in the hot tub.
- Beemer-macdonald (10/5): Choose Whale House Guest House for stunning sunrises! - Whale House Guest House is a must go to destination. Rooms are clean, and well equipped with what you need to cook your own mealsâ plus a BBQ for communal use. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive to making sure youâre happy with your stay (be it extra towels or advice about where to hike).
- Abdelkabir (10/5): cozy - everything is neat and tidy nothing.
- Kallan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kurtis (10/5): Perfect! - All around a great time and a perfect place! Highly recommend!!
- Guy (9/5): Superb - Lovely area. Nice series of cabins on wooded bayside location. Ours was quite small, but comfortable and well equipped. Very eco friendly/oriented.
- Shelley (7/5): Good -
- Brent (6/5): Clean and tidy but very average and only digital contact - clean and tidy seaside guest house but only a garden view
- Christopher (9/5): We had a blissfully relaxing stay at the Whale House. - We loved our little room, but beyond that the property was so so lovely! The attention to detail; the whimsy; the love for the planet that shines through it all. Oh! and ymmv, but when we were there there were a new bunch of ducklings that truly warmed the cockles of our hearts. We had no issues whatsoever. A lovely room, a lovely owner, and great hikes.
- Rolene (8/5): - It was amazing to have such a gorgeous view from bed - loved it! Appreciated the extras (great coffee, flavoured water in the friedge, etc.). Would have loved a comfy sitting area too for coffee TV watching. Will definitely be back!
- Mcmillan (1/5): Stay was ruined due to false fire alarm going off 3 times in a 12 hr period. - Location is great, you can walk to a restaurant and whale tour wharf. Gardens are amazing as is the BBQ setup. The fire alarms went off at all times effectively ruining our stay as we were exhausted from being woke up every 4 hrs. We contacted the host and they committed to getting us a rebate for the one night. However when we didn't hear for a week we reached out. Someone else responded and mentioned the host is now in the hospital, however after waiting for a week no follow up again. Would be great if the person that sent the note followed up with a status.
Toilet's are a pain, as "nothing" else can be flushed ala a cottage experience.
- Shane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (8/5): Nice for one night. - Quiet location. Nice room, everything was fresh and new. Lovely garden. Bed was small and pushed up against a wall so the person on that side had to climb over to get out of bed in the night. Our room was one in a row, so no windows either side or at the back. Just one window at the front which you couldnât keep open without compromising privacy so it felt quite claustrophobic and lacking in air flow.
- Angela (8/5): Very cute room and place was quiet and nice. - The bed was comfortable. It was right at the East Coast Trail. Modern room Trash for washroom was too far away from toilet and expected to put tissues in it but was too difficult as had to step on foot peddle to open. They have solar lights but should have better lights for nightime at the path to room.
- Ckkelly (10/5): Had a great stay! - Loved the look and feel and the quaint little hobby farm in the yard. The hot tub was amazing and the view was pretty good from the hot tub. Would have like to see more of the bay from the hot tub but that's nothing too serious.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Val (4/5): - Humpback suite did not reflect the photos online. It was an average room. We paid $400 for the night and expected something more than average.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Disappointing - We booked the Humpback Room for 2 nights for our honeymoon. After a lot of indecisiveness, we chose this one. The pictures online looked amazing. Upon arrival, the beginning of our honeymoon was disappointing as the room wasnât cleaned from the previous occupant. The used blankets and sheets were all balled up at the bottom of the bed and the garbage overflowing. It took a few tries but my husband reached the owner and she showed up near immediately. She apologized âprofuselyâ, said she was embarrassed, asked us if we wanted wine now or after the room is cleaned, and offered the cleaning fee of $50 to be refunded. We went for a walk while waiting for it to be ready. We ended up coming back and eating our food in our car. Once the room was ready we went inside again. She had brought a basket of extras - which Iâm not actually sure was extras. The bottle of wine was miniature.
We were extremely disappointed for $665 we expected better.
This was our honeymoon and we wanted it to be nice.
We liked that the check in and out using the keypad was simple; We liked that they had a microwave, toaster oven, mini fridge, plug in burner, and a frying pan; We liked the hot tub.
Their garden pictures are a little outdated as the place just looked overgrown. We read about beaches in the area and misinterpreted a sandy beach
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Myself and my boyfriend booked the Right Whale room for a night away and it was amazing!
The room was spotless and smelt amazing upon arrival. The utilities were modern splashed with some industrial touches. The room was very economical reserved as well which we loved. We were minutes away from the east coast trail, as well as the private board walk that leads down to the water!
The only things we would change was the motion light in the bathroom that would turn off pretty quickly while in the shower, and unfortunately the ceilings were pretty thin so we could hear every foot step from the suite above us, which would be at times kind of loud.
Overall it was so fun and we will definitely be coming back :)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing stay at the Blue Whale. Beautiful room and beautiful view!
- Ramona (8/5): oozy couples retreat - Clean eco friendly, gorgeous views and great amenities..Hottub overlooking ocean ,kitchenette and great wifi
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stayed at the whale house in the "right whale""suit & it was a lovely time with a beautiful view. The property is well kept the suits are modern small & cute! Theres a shared firepit(1) & bbq (2) between the 5 suits..where suppose to be promoting social distancing thats hard to do with 1 firepit 5 suits.. I felt like there should of been more expically for the price you pay so one suit had the firepit takin over so we actually just drove to the beach & had our own fire. Upon arrival I noticed over several permanent stains on the bedding clothes.. & I Wasnt impressed the bed was hard.. the bedding was covered in stains. Only dowers was the bed & the 1 firepit! Comon do better!! New bedding/mattress &more firepits!! Other then that we really enjoyed our stay & would deffiently come back for the hot tub suit in the future There was a lovely board walk that lead us to a private board deck over looking the ocean! That is there property I would like to see firepits & seating put down there for us people in the suits to enjoy!*just a suggestion*!! also made reservations for brunch at the fork resturant witch is a short 2 min walk from the suits! The service & food was amazing!! Very nice friendly welcoming staff! & brunch was spectacular!! Deffiently reccomend taking the time to enjoy a meal there during your stay over all it was a great experience & i would highly recommend!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - All the guest house are not like the one pictured. They all don't have hot tubs either. I had a smaller accommodation that was still very nice!
